During a Palestinian protest in the German capital of Berlin, pro-Israel protesters played an Israeli song supporting the genocide. The police protected them. The song contains genocidal statements calling those who say “free Palestine” the sons of “Amalek.” Amalek is a biblical term that became known after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu used it to justify the killing of all Palestinians in Gaza.
The song climbed to the top of the charts in Israel when it was released in November 2023. The lyrics include threats against celebrities like Bella Hadid and Dua Lipa for standing with Palestine, saying their “day will come.”
While German police allow and protect the playing of this genocidal song, they have been cracking down on people protesting the genocide. They have repeatedly brutalized and arrested those doing so. The police has also banned Palestinian symbols, harassing and detaining those who wear kufiyas or shirts with the Palestinian flag.

Anti-colonial freedom fighter Amílcar Cabral was born on this day in 1924. He led the fight to overthrow Portuguese colonialism in Guinea-Bissau and Cape Verde, contributing to the end of Portugal’s fascist dictatorship. Cabral went on to become one of Africa’s most influential communist pan-African revolutionaries.
Through helping the anti-Portguese resistance in Angola, he aimed to achieve freedom for all of Portugal’s African colonies.
As a committed pan-Africanist and socialist, he focused on creating a socialist bloc by unifying Guinea-Bissau and Cape Verde. As they liberated areas of Guinea-Bissau and Cape Verde, Cabral and his forces tried to build a socialist economy with central planning and cooperatives.
Just eight months before Guinea-Bissau achieved independence in September 1973, Cabral was assassinated by members of his movement, who it is believed were linked to the Portuguese intelligence services.

Happy 80th birthday to Native American rights activist and political prisoner Leonard Peltier! In 1977, he was wrongfully convicted of aiding and abetting the killing two FBI agents in Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, South Dakota. He was sentenced to two consecutive terms of life imprisonment and remains incarcerated 47 years later, making him one of the longest-serving political prisoners in the world.
The evidence used to convict Peltier was very controversial. For instance, three witnesses who claimed that Peltier was near the crime scene later recanted their statements, stating that the FBI had threatened them, tied them to chairs, and refused access to their attorney.
In June 2024, he was denied parole and won’t be eligible for another hearing until June 2026. Given Peltier’s age and declining health, the state will likely succeed in killing him via imprisonment. As Peltier once said, “The only thing I am guilty of is struggling for my people.”

Thousands of far-right Hindutva supporters clashed with police in Shimla, India, who are seeking the demolition of a mosque. At the protest, they tore down barricades and threw stones at police while police beat them with batons and used water canons. Several protesters and police were injured and taken to the hospital.
On Wednesday, the public works minister of the Humachal state, Vikramaditya Singh, said that if the commissioner’s court finds the mosque’s construction illegal, it would be demolished. Muslims in India must apply for permits with a government mired in Hindutva, which often rejects their applications due to Islamophobia.
Islamophobia in India has skyrocketed to new heights in the past 10 years under the leadership of Modi and the BJP. The Indian state has sponsored a policy of illegal demolition of mosques across the country and passed a discriminatory citizenship law that excludes Muslims.

Milei’s libertarian government sent the police to repress elderly Argentinians who were protesting against pension cuts yesterday.
Congress has now approved Javier Milei’s veto on any increases in pensions payments for the elderly. This effectively represents a huge real-terms pay cut for retirees as their income has been frozen. Meanwhile, annual inflation reached 236% this month.
The state pension of 234,000 pesos per month has now been devalued to such an extent that it’s worth a mere $179 per month. Access to subsidized medicine for the elderly has also been cut under Milei’s ultra-neoliberal regime.

On that day in 1922, Britain officially took control of Palestine under a mandate, setting the stage for over a century of colonial rule—first by the British, then by Israel. Today marks the 51st anniversary of the US-backed coup against elected socialist President Salvador Allende in Chile. Watch our documentary to uncover the factors that led to this pivotal moment in shaping Latin America’s history. Was Allende a revolutionary or merely a reformist trying to change a reactionary system through reforms?
The country’s “Peaceful Road to Socialism” was ultimately crushed by the very state institutions and military that Chileans were told to trust. The aftermath led to more than 40,000 individuals being jailed and tortured, including 3,200 who were killed or disappeared. The junta executed and tortured Allende supporters in football stadiums and forced many into exile, initiating a 17-year fascist dictatorship.
red. media explores how Allende ignored the warning signs of the impending coup and the growing calls from its supporters to go on the offensive against the right-wing counter-revolution.

On this day in 1973, socialist and Chilean president Salvador Allende was killed in the US-backed Pinochet coup. Pinochet’s brutal rule lasted for nearly two decades, and over 43,000 people were executed, tortured, or disappeared.
Allende took up arms himself during the fascist coup until his death in the presidential palace La Moneda. In his last address to the people, he said, “I will not resign! [...] I will pay with my life for the loyalty of the People” and “They can smash us, but the social processes are not detained, neither with crimes nor with power. History is ours, and the people will make it.”
Under Allende’s leadership, Chile nationalized its mineral wealth and expropriated corporations and banks. However, because capitalist forces were not suppressed, they used Pinochet and the US to install a fascist dictatorship. The defeat of parliamentary socialism in Chile destroyed a lot of illusions about the possibility of overthrowing the capitalist system via peaceful means.

Israel has carried out another extensive attack on Lebanon with over 20 air strikes overnight. Huge explosions were heard and seen in different locations in southern Lebanon.
The attacks come after Hezbollah launched dozens of rockets and drones on Israeli military facilities in response to Israel bombardment. Israel has been bombing Lebanese villages and assassinating members of the group, including one of the commanders of Al-Rudwan force.
The cross border fire exchange has been continuing since October 8, at fluctuating intensity. Hezbollah has stated that its attacks aim to support Gaza and put pressure on Israel to end its aggression on the Strip. In recent days, the Israeli defense minister implied that the war will be moving north against Hezbollah, saying “The center of gravity is moving to the north, we are nearing the completion of our missions in the south, but we have a task here that has not been carried out.”

On this day in 2003, the Korean peasant Lee Kyung-hae stabbed himself in protest of the World Trade Organization (WTO) forum in Cancun, Mexico. Kyung-hae protested the WTO’s systematic destruction of farmers in poorer countries vis-à-vis its neoliberal policies. In his memory, September 10 has been designated as the International Day of Action against the WTO and Free Trade Agreements.
Free trade agreements enable richer, imperialist countries to dump their agricultural products into poorer countries for much cheaper prices. With such unrestricted importing, they undercut local peasants and farmers who are unable to compete. As a result, farmers face crushing debt and are unable to make ends meet. There have been massive revolts against such agreements in the past few decades, including in India, Mexico, Korea, and Kenya.

What words come to mind when describing the US exit from Afghanistan? According to State Department spokesperson, Vedant Patel, the 2021 withdrawal was “appropriate” and “by the book.” Here’s a real recap of how it went down.
The Republican-led House Foreign Affairs Committee just released a report detailing the many blunders that occurred after the US failed in installing a puppet government. Both parties are focused on passing the blame onto the other.
In reality, four different presidents from both parties oversaw the war in Afghanistan and there was largely continuity between the administrations. As the US examines its failures, we take a look at the impacts of the withdrawal on the Afghan people.

47 years ago today, South African anti-apartheid activist and socialist Steve Biko died alone naked in his prison cell in Pretoria. Although the racist apartheid authorities denied any wrongdoing, claiming Biko had died on hunger strike, an autopsy revealed that Biko had suffered an “extensive brain injury” leading to “acute kidney failure.”
Biko became active in the moderate Union of South African Students before founding the all-Black South African Students’ Organization before its first president. SASO was based on Black consciousness, encouraging Black people to recognize their dignity and self-worth.
In 1973, Biko and four other members of SASO were banned. Biko went underground, was arrested multiple times, and held without trial for months. On September 11, he was driven 1,190 km to a prison hospital in Pretoria, where he tragically died the following day, aged only 30.

Israel bombed a UN school in Nuseirat camp where displaced people were sheltering, killing 18 people. This is the fifth attack on al-Jaouni school since October 2023, where around 12,000 displaced Palestinians were sheltering. Most of those killed were women and children.
The devastating attack has left bodies of women and children torn apart, in a scene that has become the daily reality for people in Gaza. Even with the genocide live-streamed for all to see, governments around the world refuse to stop Israel’s crimes. Since October 7, Israel has killed over 41,118 people and injured at least 95,125.
Among the dead were six UN staff, raising the death toll of UNRWA staff to 213. Israel has continuously targeted UN facilities throughout the genocide. Over the past 11 months, they have damaged over 190 UNRWA facilities in 464 attacks. Israel has killed at least 575 displaced people sheltering under the UN’s roofs.

German politics sees the far-right and “the political center” merging further together. Both sides seem to have quietly settled on the idea that foreigners are the mother of all problems. Katharina Dröge of the Green party, which is part of the governing coalition, warned of “the poison of Islam.”
After three years of stoking geopolitical fires, the liberal ruling coalition is moving ever closer to the xenophobia of the AfD. Their numbers are skyrocketing, fueled by anti-migrant rhetoric that is becoming the go-to lingo of the political elite. The conservative CDU, pretending their own 16-year reign never happened, is now blaming the self-caused crisis on migration.
Chancellor Scholz oversaw an unprecedented border crackdown. Xenophobia is now the norm in political talk shows, election campaign speeches, and in the Bundestag. The AfD won its first election, the first time a far-right party has won an election since WWII. Right-wing extremist crimes are at a record high.

25,000 protesters swarmed the streets of Melbourne against a major arms expo in Australia. The police responded with brute force, deploying over 1,000 officers to crush the protests, leading to fierce clashes. Dozens were arrested.
The three-day international event, “Land Forces 2024,” brags about being the “premier platform” for governments and the global arms industry to shake hands and strike deals. Among the exhibitors was Israel's state-owned Aerospace Industries, a key weapons supplier for their occupying forces.
Police had warned early on that this would be their biggest operation in 24 years. The streets filled with tear gas and pepper spray. Non-lethal rounds were fired, horse-mounted police units charged, and batons swung at protesters.
At the heart of the protests was outrage over Israel’s relentless extermination of Palestinians. Many protesters were carrying Palestine flags and pro-Palestine slogans echoed through the streets.

Kamala Harris and Donald Trump were arguing over who is more pro-Israel at last night’s debate in Philadelphia. Meanwhile, a huge protest against Israel’s genocide in Palestine took place outside the debate venue.
Despite fierce disagreements over domestic issues, there were virtually no differences between the two over foreign policy. The only arguments made were over who can best implement US support for Israel and Ukraine.

Another day, another Israeli massacre in the Gaza Strip. Israel bombed an encampment in al-Mawasi, west of Khan Younis, killing at least 45 people and injuring over 60. The bombing created a massive crater which buried people alive. Civil defense is digging with their bare hands to try to rescue people.
Al-Mawasi has been a designated “safe zone” since Israel started its invasion of Rafah and Khan Younis. The area is crowded with people sleeping in tents with basic infrastructure. Israel has targeted such crowded areas multiple times, killing many people.
With no ceasefire deal on the horizon and the failure of the international community in stopping Israeli war crimes, Israel continues to besiege and bomb Gaza with impunity. Since October 7, Israel has killed more than 41,020 people and injured at least 94,925.

Over a month of inaction has prompted Indian doctors and medical workers to escalate their protests regarding the rape and murder of trainee doctor, Moumita Debnath.
Doctors and medical workers said they will continue to strike despite the Supreme Court’s deadline that they resume work by 5pm on September 10. They have been striking for a month already.
Protests were held across Kolkata marking one month since a trainee doctor was brutally raped and murdered while sleeping after a 36-hour shift at the RG Kar hospital. Striking medics are also demanding that the State’s Health Secretary and director of Health Education resign.
In 2022, an average of nearly 90 rapes were reported everyday in India - likely an underestimate. Despite various reforms implemented in the last 10 years, the situation for women has not changed. In 2012, there were 25,000 reported incidents of rape while in 2022 there were 31,000. The rate of conviction is also notoriously low.
