He survived multiple assassination attempts and endured several arrests by both the Palestinian Authority (PA) and Israel. His most recent arrest by Israel was in 2019, and in 2021, he famously escaped from a maximum-security prison by digging a tunnel with a spoon.

Palestinian Authority (PA) Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa says the PA aims to lead Gaza’s reconstruction with backing from the US and Saudi Arabia, signaling efforts to remove Hamas from power.
In an interview with Bloomberg, he outlined plans to involve the World Bank, the United Nations, and the European Union in post-war governance.

“Our resistance is victorious”—The latest handover of Israeli captives in Gaza once again showed the seemingly unshakable support for the resistance forces by the Palestinian people. Even after 15 months of a relentless war of annihilation, thousands poured into the streets today to witness the historic moment of the captive’s release.
The handover took place in the ruins of what was once the home of slain resistance leader Yahya Sinwar in Khan Younis in the central Gaza Strip. This marked the first handover led by Palestinian Islamic Jihad, backed by Hamas’s Al-Qassam Brigades. Chants rang out affirming that the united front of Gaza’s armed groups was still very much alive.
