About 20 socialist activists barricaded the CDU office in Leipzig, Germany. A banner blocking the entrance read: “Your masks have fallen. The firewall never existed.”
Until now, the parties in the Bundestag, the German parliament, had an unofficial agreement to keep the AfD politically isolated. The CDU, under chancellor candidate Friedrich Merz, was the first to tear down this “firewall” last week.
With elections around the corner, polls show the conservative CDU in the lead. The AfD has become the strongest opposition force as the first major far-right power in Germany since World War II.

On this day in 1964, almost half of New York City’s school kids went on strike against racial segregation that persisted despite the Brown vs. Board ruling a decade before. An incredible show of unity between students, teachers, and parents brought the school system grinding to a halt and won significant concessions from the city, concessions that were fiercely resisted by a section of white parents that began their racist counter-movement.

LGBTQ+ groups in Argentina organized their second massive march against the rise of fascism this weekend. The large mobilization was held to protest President Milei’s recent homophobic comments at Davos, where he linked LGBT+ movements to pedophilia. Workers’ unions also joined the rally.
Protesters highlighted Javier Milei’s position as a leader of the international far-right movement which sees to roll back social rights worldwide. This is why the march was labeled as “anti-fascist” rather than purely in support of the LGBTQ+ community.

Tulsi Gabbard justified a mass surveillance program she once crusaded against during her confirmation hearing. On a podcast in May 2024, she criticized Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) as an infringement on the right to privacy. But yesterday, she parroted the narrative that FISA is necessary for “national security.” So much for political principles.
