Today, in Black History Month, we remember what is often regarded as pan-African pioneer Kwame Nkrumah’s best-ever speech. “Unite or perish,” he famously warned, appealing to the heads of 31 other African states to come together to create a strong continental union. These are the famous words the first Ghanaian president uttered at the Organization of African Unity’s (OAU) founding summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, 62 years ago.

German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock still appears to struggle with the question of bombing civilians. The answer is clearly stated in the Geneva Conventions, yet Baerbock seemingly has no idea what those are.
This isn’t the first time. Baerbock—a Green Party MP—has previously faced international criticism for declaring that Germany “won’t shy away” from helping Israel bomb “Hamas terrorists,” even in civilian areas.
The Geneva Conventions clearly prohibit the deliberate or indiscriminate attack on civilians and civilian objects, even if the area contained military objectives, but Germany does not seem to care about international law.
Germany’s unwavering support for the Israeli occupation is well known by now. Shockingly, with elections in Germany looming, nearly all major political parties remain united on one stance: unconditional support for Israel—even at the cost of genocide.

Today marks five years since a right-wing extremist shot and, in cold blood, murdered nine people with migrant backgrounds in the German town of Hanau.
In recent years, Germany’s far-right movement has seen a steady rise, with the AfD party on its way to becoming the country’s main opposition party. With a string of failures and inaction at the hands of the German government, the attack in Hanau serves as yet another example of its willful blindness in the right eye.

Hamas says it’s ready to free all Israeli captives in one batch.
In a newly released statement, Hamas spokesperson Hazem Qassem declared, “We are prepared for a second phase in which the prisoners will be freed in one batch, provided an agreement is reached that ensures a permanent ceasefire and a complete withdrawal from the Strip.”
This proposal follows remarks from US President Donald Trump, who had criticized the phased weekly release of captives taken from Israel, warning that “all hell will break loose” in Gaza if Hamas didn’t free all the captives last Saturday. The decision to increase the number of captives released was made in response to a request from mediators and as a demonstration of Hamas’ commitment to fully implementing the agreement’s terms.

Kimathi was one of the leaders of Kenya’s Mau Mau rebellion against British colonial rule. Despite international appeal, Britain still won’t disclose where he is buried to this very day.

Is this the beginning of the end for the Ukraine war? US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov held direct talks—the first high-level negotiations between the two nations since the onset of the war.
Both countries agreed to reestablish their respective diplomatic missions, a massive step in normalizing relations. The two countries will also appoint teams dedicated to the negotiations. Rubio emphasized that sanctions relief could even be considered as part of the negotiations.
Notably, the meeting did not include representatives from Ukraine or the EU, suggesting that the two will be marginal in shaping the outcome of the war.

🟡 NOW: German police stormed a Palestine-solidarity event in Berlin before it even began. The organizers, including DiEM25, have condemned the crackdown as “mafia-like tactics” from politicians trying to shut it down.
DiEM25 reported that police informed them undercover agents would be planted in the crowd. They also revealed that police are pressuring venue owners to cancel the event entirely. The hosts of the venue, the marxist newspaper Junge Welt, said they “never experienced such difficulties organizing an event in 17 years of work.”
The event’s featured speaker, UN Rapporteur Francesca Albanese, has already faced intense censorship in Germany.
Around 200 attendees were expected, but organizers believe the authorities will ultimately shut it down. “We expect unlawful police interference against those who speak out against the genocide in Gaza and challenge German complicity.”

🟡 HAPPENING NOW: Israel continues to violate the ceasefire in Lebanon by demolishing and destroying properties and land in Kfar Chouba in the south.
This morning, two Israeli trucks loaded with explosives were seen moving through the town, despite today’s deadline for the full withdrawal of Israeli troops from Lebanon.
On this day in 1942, then US President Franklin D. Roosevelt issued Executive Order 9066, forcibly relocating virtually all Japanese Americans to concentration camps for the simple crime of being of Japanese ancestry. Meanwhile, the US claimed to be fighting for “freedom” during WWII.
While one might think that this was done out of “military necessity,” Italians and Germans in the US were largely left alone. It was Asians who the US government perceived as an existential threat to “Western civilization,” not fascism.

The Trump administration has halted all funding to the Palestinian Authority (PA) security forces as part of a broader freeze on foreign aid, according to both US and Palestinian officials.
During Trump’s first term, Washington had cut direct aid to the authority but continued supporting trainings for the security forces. These programs are conducted through the United States Security Coordinator (USSC) for Israel and the Palestinian Authority.
The US is regarded as a significant contributor to PA initiatives, including security training, stated Brigadier General. Anwar Rajab, spokesman for the Palestinian security forces. Due to the funding freeze, some training programs have already been reduced, and officials are now seeking alternative donors.

After 49 years as a political prisoner, Leonard Peltier is out, but not free. The Native American activist, persecuted by the US state, has been moved to house arrest following a last-minute commutation by former President Biden before leaving office.
In 1977, Peltier was wrongfully convicted of aiding and abetting the killing of two FBI agents in Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, South Dakota. The evidence used to convict Peltier was very controversial, and his trial was ripe with irregularities. Many believe his imprisonment is retribution for his leadership in the Native American liberation movement.

Albanese is speaking today at the event hosted in Berlin. Keynote speeches and panel discussions on Palestine are on the agenda. German officials are already responsible for canceling two previous events just last week.
Riot police are on standby, ready to shut it down any moment—mirroring the crackdown against the Palestine Congress 2024.
