Swearing an oath to the monarchy? “Nonsense,” says Jeremy Corbyn. The British parliament still maintains many of its feudal-era practices, with lots of garters and frilly collars - an absurd theater for advocates of republican democracy.
The upper house of their Parliament is the “House of Lords”, and unlike a Senate, is appointed by the Prime Minister, party leaders, and the Church. The opening sessions are convened by the monarch of the day.

With all eyes on Gaza, Israel expands its seizure of Palestinian land in the West Bank, announcing the biggest land grab for the settlers in more than 30 years. The endeavor is spearheaded by Israel’s far-right finance minister, Bezalel Smotrich, who himself is living in a settlement built on stolen Palestinian Lands.
Smotrich, who became in charge of the planning procedures in the West Bank, took that rule, which the minister of defense handled before June 2023. Israel has built more than 160 settlements with more than 700,000 settlers living in it, in the Bank and East Jerusalem, killing any future for a Palestinian state.
In March 2023, a report by UN Human Rights Chief Volker Türk stated that Israel’s continuous expansion of settlements amounts to the transfer by Israel of its own civilian population into the territories that it occupies, which amounts to a war crime under international law.

The US State Department got called out in a press conference over its hypocrisy with regards to how they react when a hospital is bombed in Gaza, versus when one is bombed in Ukraine.
In Gaza, US spokespeople hide behind procedures and call for investigations to avoid blaming Israel. In Ukraine they point the finger straight away.

A barrage of Russian missiles across Ukraine killed at least 41 people, with the country's biggest active children's hospital in Kyiv largely destroyed. The wave of shelling was the deadliest in months.
Ukrainian officials called attacks on the children's hospital a war crime, while Moscow pushed back the blame, saying a malfunctioning Ukrainian air defense system missile had hit the hospital.
Medical personnel reported that up to 70% of the children's hospital was in ruins. Kyiv officials said two people were killed in the direct hit on the building, including a doctor. Hospital staff said 20 children were being treated at the medical facility at the time of the strike.
The attack came a day before a major three-day NATO summit that Zelensky is expected to attend, where the war in Ukraine will be a key focus. In the wake of the hospital bombing, US officials have already announced they will approve further military aid to Ukraine.

On this day, in 1972, Palestinian thinker and writer Ghassan Kanafani and his 17-year-old niece were assassinated in Beirut, Lebanon, in a car bomb planted by Israel’s national intelligence agency, Mossad.
Kanafani once famously said, “Imperialism has laid its body over the world, the head in Eastern Asia, the heart in the Middle East, its arteries reaching Africa and Latin America. Wherever you strike it, you damage it, and you serve the world revolution.”
Throughout his lifetime, Kanafani played a major role in raising consciousness for the global anti-imperialist struggle and was an uncompromising internationalist.
To this day, his contributions and ideas continue to influence revolutionary movements worldwide, from Palestine to Europe and beyond.

Israel has once again stepped up its deadly attacks on Gaza’s displaced Palestinians as ceasefire talks resume. A new report from The Lancet estimates that Israel’s war of extermination against Gaza has likely, directly and indirectly, killed up to 186,000 people. This far exceeds the official death toll of 38,193.
The Israeli military expanded their immediate evacuation orders to several areas of Gaza City. In doing so, they are once again pushing people into a “humanitarian zone” located in the coastal area of al-Mawasi, on the southern end of the Gaza Strip. The so-called “safe zone,” however, has not even been spared from Israeli attacks.
The new displacement orders in Gaza City come as the Israeli army expands its military operations in the city, launching fresh raids into several districts.

Unrest erupted across France after anti-fascists celebrated the surprise defeat of the far-right National Rally. After the decisive round of the snap elections, clashes with the police escalated.
The far-right’s dream of a sweeping election victory was in ruins after the Popular Front coalition blocked the National Rally's anticipated takeover.
Fierce clashes broke out between protesters and police in Paris. Footage showed violent arrests and seemingly arbitrary violence against bystanders. According to a 2016 survey by Cevipof, 70% of police officers voted for the far-right.
In Lyon, right-wing mobs marched through the streets, attacking opponents. Similar incidents occurred in other cities as well.
Although France's far-right did not win the elections outright, they are far from losers. The National Rally achieved their highest electoral results ever. France's far right was on the verge of taking political power for the first time since World War II.

France’s far-right National Rally Party (RN) is on the cusp of power. Since Marine Le Pen’s take over in 2011, she has pursued a strategy of “de-demonization” to sugarcoat RN’s image. But at its core, the party remains a viper’s nest of racists, neo-fascists, homophobes and misogynists.

Happy birthday, Frida Kahlo! While Kahlo is renowned worldwide for her art, style, and persona, many forget that she was a political activist whose artwork reflected her communist, anti-fascist, and anti-imperialist views. She joined the Mexican Communist Party in 1927 and her political convictions stayed with her even after her death when a hammer and sickle flag covered her coffin. “I realized my foot was dangling. I told my father, “My foot is amputated!”” — Khamis, a 12-year-old Palestinian boy from Gaza, spoke to red. media, telling us about the moment an Israeli drone targeted him and his family. Khamis and his family, originally from northern Gaza, have been displaced multiple times since Israel unleashed total war on the Gaza Strip.
While on the move, an Israeli drone targeted the UN vehicle Khamis and his family were in. Several people were killed, with even more injured. Khamis and his father suffered the most severe injuries.
Israel’s targeted destruction of Gaza’s medical facilities, coupled with the manufactured famine, have exacerbated their situation. Khamis’ future remains uncertain as Israel’s relentless war of extermination in the Gaza Strip persists.

Palestinians in Gaza passed the deadliest day in weeks as an Israeli airstrike on the Al-Awdah school turned refugee camp claimed at least 83 casualties. Disturbing footage shows how a crowded soccer match on school grounds turned from a brief moment of distraction to a bloodbath in the blink of an eye.
The attacks reflect an intensification of Israel's war of annihilation. Gaza’s ruling resistance organization previously warned Israel’s attacks could lead to the torpedoing of planned ceasefire negotiations, set to begin in the capital of Qatar, Doha. Palestinian resistance organizations called on people in Arab and Muslim countries to escalate their protests.
In the tenth month since the war of annihilation began, the official death toll stands at nearly 40,000, but a new report in the British medical journal Lancet estimates the actual death toll could be 186,000 or more, roughly 8% of Gaza's total population.

Israeli encroachment on Palestinian communities in the occupied West Bank continues as the Israeli occupation destroyed a school, several houses, and agricultural land in the occupied West Bank. At the same time, settlers continue to attack Palestinians and Israeli activists documenting the events.
The school demolished was a primary school attended by 70 students and built at the expense of local residents and funded by European institutions. Prior to the destruction by Israeli authorities, the school had come under attack several times by settlers who vandalized its contents in an attempt to pressure the residents to leave the area.
The latest wave of demolitions and attacks took place in Masafer Yatta in the southern occupied West Bank. Breaking the Silence, a group of Israeli activists who oppose the 1967 occupation of Palestine but not Zionism as a whole, said that settler violence happens “under the watchful eye of and with the active backing” of the Israeli State.

Israel’s record of prisoner abuse has been exposed once again with the field execution of four Palestinian prisoners near Gaza’s Karem Abu Salem crossing. At the prisoners’ release, Israeli forces targeted and deliberately killed the four individuals, believed to be local aid workers.
The Palestinian Prisoners Club (PPC), drawing on survivor eyewitness accounts, reported that these four individuals were part of a group of 15 Palestinians arrested and detained for four days by Israeli authorities. During this time, they suffered torture, beatings, and degrading conditions.
As the conflict in the Gaza Strip continues into its 10th month, abuses against Palestinian detainees show no signs of abating. According to the PPC, field executions of Palestinians have become commonplace, with detainees frequently killed in Israeli prisons and camps.

A seismic political shift is reshaping West Africa, as the Sahel states Niger, Burkina Faso, and Mali have united under a new confederation. The Alliance of Sahel States (AES) formation marks a decisive break from the Western-backed Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) bloc, solidifying the unity of these rebel states and representing 72 million people.
The AES has also blocked exports of some crucial resources saying “This era is gone forever. Our resources will remain for us and our population’s.” Burkina Faso’s Traore said.
Turning their backs on the West has coincided with moving towards other foreign powers like Russia as well as China, who have been quick to extend their support to the countries rebuking the West and taking advantage of the opportunity to advance their own interests.
But will this change result in meaningful improvement in the lives of the people? Leave a comment.

Israeli forces killed the communist Palestinian revolutionary Ghassan Kanafani today in 1972. Everyone knows his iconic interview, “conversation between the sword and the neck,” but have you seen this rare footage?
Watch him explain why there is no alternative to people’s war for liberation. The original film “Resistance, Why?” was burned by right-wing Lebanese militias after production in 1971 before it could be released and was only restored between 2019 and 2021.
Kanafani, who before his famous interview had already been one of the most prominent Palestinian voices, would be assassinated by the Mossad only one year later with a car bomb.
He served as the spokesperson of the Marxist “Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine” while himself never wielding a gun.

Have you seen this series of communist paintings by Mexico's most important painter, Frida Kahlo? Her self-portrait with Joseph Stalin may be glossed over by liberal whitewashing, but Kahlo's communist legacy still shines through despite commercialization of her persona.
At an early age, Kahlo joined the Mexican Communist Party's youth group and officially entered the party in 1927. She fought in labor unions, supported Spanish communist refugees with asylum in Mexico, and raised funds for Spanish Republicans fighting Franco.
She worked for the cultural revival of Mexico by celebrating and promoting indigenous culture through her art. She also dismantled traditional expectations in her art by addressing taboo topics such as gender, bisexuality, disability, mental health, and more.
Ignoring medical advice, Frida Kahlo protested against the US invasion of the leftist government in Guatemala in 1954. During this time, she got pneumonia, from which she would not recover.

Kylian Mbappe has called on people to vote against the far-right in France. The French captain and biggest cultural icon in the country has spoken out against Le Pen for the second time now during the Euros.
Le Pen came in first place at the recent EU parliamentary elections and then again during the first round of voting that took place at the end of June. Le Pen’s closest rival is the “New Popular Front,” a new alliance consisting of the Socialist Party, Communist Party, Melenchon’s “France Insoumise” and other leftist parties.
Macron’s centrist party is insisting that both “extremes” are as bad as the other, nevertheless, many local candidates from both his party and others are withdrawing to ensure that the anti-Le Pen vote is not split.
French police have mobilized 30,000 officers for Sunday due to fears that clashes could arise between the far-right and anti-fascist groups.
