This interview has ignited outrage across Kenya as President William Ruto responds seemingly clueless to a question about a 12-year-old boy who was fatally shot with eight bullets, allegedly fired by the police. The perplexed journalist clarified, “He’s dead,” when Ruto asked if the boy was alive.
Kennedy Onyango, who was murdered with overwhelming violence, was the youngest protester to lose his life during the uprising. He died before he could reach the hospital.
Ruto’s tone-deaf response has gone viral on Kenyan social media, revealing the president’s alienation from the brutal realities on the streets. Online, a wave of anger is mobilizing under the slogan “Occupy Everywhere,” calling for a massive protest on Tuesday, July 2.
Over the weekend, Kenya’s streets were awash with memorial marches for the more than 30 killed in the ongoing anti-government uprising. Despite the bloodshed, Ruto remains unyielding, declaring, “I have no blood on my hands.”

Israel is unleashing war on the West Bank as they raid Nur Shams refugee camp in the Tulkarem governorate just hours after assassinating a high-ranking resistance fighter. The raid comes follows another raid in Tulkarem that killed at least one and injured at least five others.
Local resistance forces have been putting up a fierce fight, confronting the invading forces with heavy bursts of gunfire and explosive devices as fighters continue to set up ambushes for the occupation forces and inflict injuries among them.
The assassination operation targeted fighter Saeed Izzat Jaber, one of the founders and most prominent leaders of the local resistance brigade. He was killed after the Israeli military fired missiles at a house he was in, in Tulkarem.
Just a few months back, Tulkarem, a center of resistance to Israeli occupation, witnessed the most destructive Israeli raid since the Second Intifada.

Watch Black Panther Party co-founder Huey P. Newton describe the police brutality Black Americans face in under 60 seconds while in prison himself. Newton argued that the police exist “to contain us, to brutalize, and murder us.”
On average, one in three Black men will face imprisonment in the US compared to one in 11 white men. Of the nearly two million people in US prisons, 42% are Black even though Black people comprise only 14% of the US population. By comparison, 36% of prison inmates are white, even though they constitute 58% of the general population.

What is the root cause of the protests in Kenya? President Ruto’s craven subservience to US imperialism, says Booker Ngesa Omole of the Communist Party of Kenya, speaking exclusively to red. media.
Whether it’s implementing unpopular neoliberal economic policies or rolling out the red carpet for their military bases, Kenya has been a loyal servant of Washington at the expense of the Kenyan people.

Bolivian President Luis Arce has responded to allegations that Wednesday’s coup was staged in order to boost his own image. The accusation came from the MAS party national committee, controlled by supporters of Evo Morales, who are currently locked in a factional fight with Arce over who controls the party and who gets to be the presidential candidate next year.
MAS stated that President Arce must have known about the movement of armoured vehicles to La Paz for the coup. Arce claims that the military intelligence service was not passing information to the executive branch.

Kenya’s anti-government uprising seems unstoppable as military patrols, road blockades, tear gas, and police violence fail to quell the mobilization. Beginning as anti-IMF tax reform protests, people on Kenya’s streets are now demanding the overthrow of President William Ruto.
Kenyans see their fellow protesters shot dead in front of their eyes but choose to fight on. On Thursday, at least two more protesters were gunned down by police near the capital, Nairobi. More than 200 others were injured, often through the indiscriminate use of firearms by authorities.
The International Monetary Fund (IMF), which is pressuring Kenya to implement tax reforms as a precondition for more funds, said, “We are deeply concerned about the tragic events in Kenya.” Behind the curtain, however, IMF told the Ruto government to “stay committed” in the face of unrest.

At the age of 17, Arondeus was forced to leave his home because his parents could not accept his decision to live as an openly gay man.
When the Nazis invaded the Netherlands in 1940, Arondeus wasted no time in joining the Dutch resistance movement. Using his artistic talents, Arondeus forged documents and false identity papers for Dutch Jews and others wanted by the Gestapo.
In a daring act of defiance in 1943, Arondeus led a raid that led to the destruction of the Citizen Registration Building of Amsterdam, which was essential for the Nazis to track people and cross-check the forged documents. Their mission proved successful as they managed to destroy thousands of records containing information about Jews and others being monitored by the Nazis.
Arondeus was sentenced to death shortly thereafter. True to his identity, his parting words were, “Let it be known that homosexuals are not cowards!”

“Justice for Nahel” was one of the critical demands during the migrant youth uprisings in France, which exploded in response to the racist police killing of Nahel Merzouk a year ago today. With no deeper consequences since Nahel’s death, which sparked one of the largest migrant youth protests in the country’s history, the shooting still haunts France.

Despite military patrols on Kenya’s streets, the anti-government uprising continues, ignited by suffocating IMF-backed tax reforms. President William Ruto rescinded plans for the bill, but failed to quell the protests, which have now escalated beyond tax issues.
Following the peak of the protests on Tuesday, which saw at least 20 protesters killed, current mobilizations are smaller, primarily due to the heavy police and military presence. Nonetheless, clashes have erupted again.
Police fired rubber bullets and tear gas at protesters. Ruto vowed on Tuesday to quash the unrest “at whatever cost.” Organizers dismissed Ruto’s reversal as “Too Little, Too Late” and are calling for the president’s resignation.
The Communist Party of Kenya (CPK), at the forefront of the protests, declared, “The blood spilled on the streets of Kenya lies squarely in the hands of the IMF, the World Bank, and their local puppets led by President Ruto in Nairobi.” The CPK warned, “Ruto resign or be overthrown.”

One year ago today, France was ablaze in response to the racist police killing of 17-year-old Nahel Merzouk of Moroccan and Algerian descent. His murder ignited one of the largest migrant youth uprisings the country ever witnessed.
As anger erupted on the streets, particularly in the migrant-dominated suburbs of Paris, politicians, mainstream media, and sections of civil society were quick to condemn the protests. We spoke with Parisian journalist Shahin Hazamy, who dismantled the demonization of the uprising by placing it within the historical context of France's colonial legacy.
🟡 🎬 We were on the ground at the height of the protests where those at its heart made clear that until France stops the oppression, ever more intense clashes are on the horizon. Watch our special report from inside the uprising now.

“Serbia is not for sale.” — Serbians protested once again against plans to open a lithium mine in Western Serbia. In 2022, after a mass upsurge, the government announced it was canceling the project. The movement called attention to the devastating environmental impacts of the mine and the government’s subservience to foreign multinationals.
However, as soon as public attention shifted, the government continued discussions with Anglo-Australian mining giant, Rio Tinto.
The Jadar valley in Serbia holds one of Europe’s largest deposits of lithium, which is used in electric vehicle battery production.
While mainstream media in the West frames these protesters as opposing the extraction of lithium, the struggle is much wider. Organizers have been calling attention to the neo-colonial nature of the Serbian state, serving foreign powers and multinational companies instead of the people.

Mass protests erupted in France in response to the far-right National Rally party, which is on the doorstep of taking power in the country. For the first time since World War II, a far-right force of this kind would come to power.
The National Rally (RN) secured 34% of the vote in the first round of snap elections, followed by a coalition led by the New Popular Front with 28%, which was formed to block an RN victory. The front consists of socialists, communists, greens and the Unbowed party.
Meanwhile, the party of President Emmanuel Macron, dubbed the “president of the rich,” received 20% of the vote. Now all eyes are on the second and decisive round of elections on July 7, in which the RN will try to secure an absolute majority to avoid a coalition.
Protests against the National Rally broke out in several parts of the country, with anti-fascist slogans being shouted. Several times there were clashes with the police who fired tear gas into the crowd to disperse the protests.

Did you know that socialist Cuba has a home ownership rate of 90%? Affordable housing should be an indelible human right that Western capitalist countries with growing homeless populations increasingly ignore.
Although US conservatives and liberals boast about how economically developed it is compared to Cuba, home ownership rates are declining, particularly amongst the Black population and younger generations.
Following the 1959 Cuban revolution, the government introduced a series of housing measures, resulting in an average 40% reduction in rents. Evictions were also made illegal, thousands of social housing units were built, and empty homes were given to those needing them.
As a result, the shanty towns that were a feature of Batista’s Cuba in the 1950s disappeared. Today, the number of homeless people in Cuba is close to zero, while nearly 600,000 people struggle to survive on the streets of US cities.

“Peace isn’t the answer. Liberation is the answer.” – On the birthday of Black revolutionary Kwame Ture, watch this iconic clapback, schooling a white person that “peace” merely serves as a demand of the oppressor, while “liberation” is the true solution.
This conversation was captured in the 1967 documentary “Tell Me Lies,” which explores the global response to the Vietnam War. At the time of its release, the docu was heavily attacked by imperialist advocates.
Ture’s words continue to resonate, especially in light of the ongoing annihilation war against Palestine, the unwavering resistance, and the reigniting discussion of liberation.

Tirelessly, Kenya is putting up the biggest resistance in its young history, despite the country’s High Court ordering the military to “restore order” in the latest move. Amnesty International on Wednesday warned of mass arrests, hundreds of injured, and kidnappings of protesters by authorities, in addition to the soaring 26+ death toll.
The leaderless Gen-Z-driven movement is acutely aware and, on social media, widely discussing the parallels with the 2022 uprising in Sri Lanka, where thousands stormed the presidential palace amid rising living costs and ousted President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
The EU’s Josep Borrell issued a statement saying: “President Ruto’s recent decision to withdraw the Finance Bill will help to reduce tensions and should help to create an environment conducive to dialog.”
In sharp contrast, the Communist Party of Kenya, among those at the forefront of the protests, issued a statement saying “tyranny can only be defeated through resistance, not negotiation.”

Lebanon’s Hezbollah has launched dozens of Katyusha rockets at an Israeli military base in northern occupied Palestine in what some described as one of Hezbollah’s biggest rocket barrages in recent weeks.
Over 40 rockets were fired towards the main air and missile defense base of Israel’s northern area command in the wake of earlier Israeli attacks in eastern and southern Lebanon, causing a blaze and a power outage. At the same time, the group launched several kamikaze drones at the Israeli al-Naqoura naval base on the Mediterranean coast, killing and injuring several Israeli soldiers.
Cross-border attacks between the Israeli military and Hezb!lah have intensified this month. Several countries have called for the immediate evacuation of its citizens from Lebanon.
The UN warns that war breaking out between Israel and Lebanon would be “potentially apocalyptic.”

Donald Trump hurled many insults at Joe Biden during the first presidential debate in 2024. But one of them was not like the others.
In an exchange about US support for Israel’s genocide in Gaza, Trump called Biden a “very bad Palestinian,” using the word Palestinian as a slur to claim that Biden was not supportive enough of Israel.
“Let them finish the job,” Trump said, urging Biden to give Israel even more free rein in their onslaught on Palestine.

The split in Bolivia’s left has reached catastrophic proportions, with the MAS Party accusing President Luis Arce of staging yesterday’s coup.
The national committee of the MAS, currently controlled by supporters of Evo Morales, made the claim today in a press conference.
Morales and Arce are currently locked in a faction fight over who controls the party and who can be the presidential candidate next year. Luis Arce supporters have a parallel national committee of the party; however, the electoral court still legally recognizes Evo Morales’ one.

The morning after the coup attempt. The Bolivian general who led the coup attempt has been arrested and President Luis Arce addressed a cheering crowd of anti-coup protesters. The government says they had planned to remove General Zúñiga as Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces and that this was the motivation behind the coup attempt. They also say that the reason it failed was because outside reinforcements did not arrive in time.
The arrested general meanwhile has said that he carried out the attempted coup on orders of President Luis Arce himself in order to boost Arce’s popularity as he emerged victorious. Supporters of Evo Morales, currently engaged in an internal faction fight with Luis Arce, also claim that this was a staged coup.
Supporters of Luis Arce say that this theory is absurd and that the only reason the coup failed was due to popular resistance, as well as the role of the police who remained loyal to the elected government.

Those who survive Israeli bombing in Gaza are subjected to another type of warfare: starvation. Currently, with more than 495,000 people on the brink of starvation, people in the enclave are resorting to desperate measures to keep themselves alive amid an escalating aid crisis.
So far, at least 34 people, most of whom are children, have already died from severe malnutrition. This week alone, four children have starved to death.
Meanwhile, the delivery of aid has remained next to impossible given Israel's constant pummeling of the Strip. More than 200 humanitarian workers have been killed and humanitarian operations have “repeatedly been in the crosshairs in Gaza,” the UN said.
Despite all this, Israel continues to restrict humanitarian access and relentlessly pound several areas across the enclave, killing dozens on a daily basis.
