Student protesters at UCLA, in California, were attacked by pro-Israel groups from outside campus who attempted to clear away the encampment in support of Palestine.
Campus security pepper sprayed protesters to break up the clashes that broke out. Despite the organized attacks by outside groups, the encampment at UCLA continues to expand, with their central demand being that their university divest from Israeli apartheid.
Jonathon Greenblatt, CEO of the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), the largest pro-Israel group in the US, was among those organizing the attempts to clear away student protests in LA. He spoke at the rally next to the student encampment.

It's been nearly two decades since the world was shocked by leaked images of US soldiers committing war crimes at Abu Ghraib. But the grim legacy of this scandal still haunts us today, as those responsible for these heinous acts continue to evade justice.
Back in April 2004, the world was stunned by the release of hundreds of photos showing US military personnel brutalizing and sexually assaulting detainees at the infamous prison in Iraq. The Red Cross reported that up to 90% of the prisoners there had been wrongly detained. This month, victims of the Abu Ghraib torture had their first day in court, but not against the real culprit, the US government.
Despite then-Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld's admission of responsibility, those who directed and oversaw these atrocities have yet to face any real consequences.

A devastating civil war has been raging in the Southeast Asian country of Myanmar ever since the military regained power in a coup in 2021. Anti-junta resistance forces made up of ethnic armed organizations and parallel government groups may have finally turned the tide in their favor.
Last year, the anti-junta resistance forces launched several offensives, making significant gains and dealing a heavy blow to the military government. The Special Advisory Council for Myanmar (SAC-M) said in September last year that the junta only controlled 72 out of the country’s 330 townships.
While the country’s capital, Naypyidaw, remains the government’s stronghold and the commercial hub and former capital of Yangon also remains under government control, many of the ethnic armed organizations that precede the coup have taken over entire states.

“If the only alternative is violence, we will use violence.” – Thirty years ago, South Africa celebrated a monumental victory as it overcame the apartheid system, ending centuries of white rule. Watch revolutionary anti-apartheid leader Nelson Mandela speak in Gaza about the need for force and resistance in the context of the Palestinian liberation struggle. He saw the Palestinian anti-colonial struggle as a continuation of the same battle that was fought in South Africa

Italian communists led the anti-fascist resistance that overthrew Mussolini and helped end WW2. Today, Italy celebrates “Liberation Day” to commemorate the resistance’s victory.
We should remember that the most significant armed resistance group was the “Garibaldi Brigades,” led by the Communist Party of Italy. Liberals and social democrats were also part of the resistance but played a much smaller role.
However, the Communist Party did not always support a strategy of armed struggle against Mussolini, despite being urged by Lenin and Gramsci to do so.

Videos capturing a march of the communist guerrilla ELN together with the local population in the northeast of the country, San Pablo, North Santander, went viral on Colombian social media. According to local reports, the participants bid farewell to the recently fallen ELN (National Liberation Army) combatant alias Tigre.
Currently, the ELN and the Colombian state are in a year-long ceasefire as part of negotiation talks. However, this does not apply to the guerrilla's battles with Colombia’s powerful right-wing paramilitaries. The self-described Marxist ELN is Colombia’s largest left-wing guerrilla movement, with 6,000 estimated members.
The talks between Colombia’s first left-wing president, Gustavo Petro, and the political-military group mark a historic turning point in the relationship between the two warring parties. Previous negotiations have already secured humanitarian aid for those affected by the war, the release of some imprisoned guerrilla fighters, and more.

Is Europe an Islamic society? Far-right groups on the continent propagate racism and hatred against Muslims when, in reality, Islam has shaped and modernised Europe over many centuries. In the case of Spain and Portugal, their peninsula was Islamic for nearly a millennium. Their culture has its roots in what they profess to hate.
This is the story of Al-Andalus and Islamic Europe.

On this day, 79 years ago, the Italian fascist dictator Benito Mussolini was executed, marking the end of more than 20 years of fascism in Italy. We have colorized photos from the era showcasing Italian anti-fascist partisan fighters.
Mussolini and his mistress disguised themselves as German soldiers and attempted to flee the country. However, a communist Partisan Brigade in the village of Dongo on Lake Como identified Mussolini, captured and executed them.
The bodies of Mussolini, his mistress, and his fascist colleagues were transported to Milan where they were displayed in a piazza. A furious crowd stomped and spat on their bodies before they were strung up outside a gas station.

We interviewed Palestine Action co-founder Hudda Ammori on their mission to shut down Israel's war machine. Their work and actions have resonated globally, leading other groups to join their movement in shutting down Israeli weapons factories and companies collaborating with the occupation.
Ammori tells us how their movement started and has grown throughout the years. Regardless of state repression and criticism, their achievements speak for themselves. Palestine Action started in the UK, targeting Elbit Systems, one of the leading Israeli weapons companies producing drones and weapons used to kill Palestinians, especially in the Gaza Strip.

Staff members at US universities voice their support for students who have been persecuted by their campus administration, which has called in local police to violently break up occupations and protests in support of Gaza.
Yesterday, mass arrests took place nationwide, with over 100 detained at USC in California, another 100 at Emerson College in Boston, and dozens on many other campuses.
The number of student occupations has also increased, with UCLA, Ohio State, Northwestern University, George Washington University, and Georgetown all joining the wave of encampments being erected to protest against Israel's genocide in Palestine.
Similar protests have spread to Europe with students at Sciences Po and Sorbonne University. In Greece, students have also taken to the streets for Gaza.

“There is no excuse for the slaughter of 15,000 children and untold others.” — A Holocaust survivor joined the pro-Palestinian encampment at George Washington University in Washington DC.
The 88-year-old woman likened her experiences during the Holocaust to what Gazan children are going through right now, including the loss of her family, war, fire, and bombing.
Protesters set up the encampment at the DC campus yesterday. So far, student protesters at around 20 universities across the US set up encampments on campus in solidarity with Palestine.

HAPPENING NOW: US police are going rogue again, tasing a restrained student protester in Atlanta at Emory University. The protesters are not only demanding the university immediately divest from Israel but also from Atlanta's infamous Cop City, one of the largest militarized police training centers in the country.
Campus occupations in solidarity with Palestine have been met with extreme police violence, tactics employed by US police that echo those of the Israeli occupation.
The government sending in the military to crush dissent among its own population might become a reality as demands to send in the National Guard rise among government officials.
