Texas police stormed the campus of UT Austin and arrested 43 students who defied orders to clear away the protest encampment that had been erected in support of Gaza.
The mobilizations in Texas show how solidarity with Palestine is spreading far beyond the traditional bastions of student activism, as well as the absence of so-called “free speech” and “First Amendment” rights in conservative states that claim to champion these values.
Nevertheless, despite the repression and arrests, students continue to protest daily and refuse to abandon the encampments. Texas Governor Greg Abbott has said that “no encampments will be allowed,” yet those encampments remain.

The students unfurled a banner from a balcony window at Hamilton Hall that read “Hind’s Hall” in honor of Hind Rajab, a 6-year-old girl who was killed in Gaza City by the Israeli army.

Videos reminiscent of a warzone emerged from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. A drug war erupted as police launched a crackdown on the “Red Command” drug cartel in the Complexo do Alemão favela, indiscriminately shooting at the area. At least 350 police officers are said to have been involved in the early morning operation, including elite troops from the military police equipped with helicopters, armored vehicles, and heavy weapons.
Authorities accuse the cartel of using the poor working-class slum in the north of the city as a “bunker” and the local population as a “shield.” Dozens of civilians have already been killed in similar raids over recent years, with innocent victims reported to have been gunned down by stray bullets in their own homes as police and gang members exchange fire.

The Soviet communist leader Vladimir Lenin said of May Day that it was “the day when the workers of all lands celebrate their awakening to a class-conscientiousness, their solidarity in the struggle against all coercion and oppression of man by man, the struggle to free the toiling millions from hunger, poverty, and humiliation. Two worlds stand facing each other in this great struggle: [...] The world of exploitation and slavery and the world of brotherhood and freedom.”

Over 1,500 fascists in Italy have gathered in the streets of Milan, doing the fascist salute. The gathering took place as Milan’s far-right organized a torchlight procession to commemorate the youth Sergio Ramelli on the anniversary of his death in 1975.
The event was organized by the Patriot’s Network, with members from the fascist organizations Forza Nuova, CasaPound, and Lealtà Azione attending the event.
Sergio Ramelli was a militant member of the Youth Front of the Italian Social Movement (MSI). The MSI is Italy’s leading fascist party and is largely regarded as the successor of fascist dictator Benito Mussolini’s original National Fascist Party and Republican Fascist Party.
In 1975, when militant confrontations between fascists and Italy’s left had been ongoing, far-left militants killed Ramelli, a prominent fascist at the Technical Institute Ettore Molinari. He has since been elevated to an important symbol of Italy’s fascist movement.

Meta is now internationally limiting the political content you can see on their platforms. Here’s a quick guide on how to stop Instagram and Threads from deciding what shows up on your feed.
What Meta considers to be “political content” remains extremely vague. In-app settings describe “political content” as “likely to mention governments, elections, or social topics that affect a group of people and/or society at large.” This way, Meta is free to arbitrarily decide what “political content” is “eligible for recommendation” or not.
