Immigrants in Portugal had their home attacked by fascists belonging to a group known as “1143”. Police have arrested six people connected to this group following a home invasion in Porto, where a house containing numerous immigrants was broken into and vandalized. The fascists also attacked the residents of the house, with two requiring hospitalization.
In the days leading up to this attack, there were anti-immigrant protests in the area; police believe that the two events are linked. Fascists in Portugal have been emboldened by the rise of the far-right Chega Party, now the country’s third-largest political group in parliament.

Today, Dutch police forcefully evicted a pro-Palestine encampment in Amsterdam, leaving several students injured. Following yesterday's eviction, the students quickly constructed a new camp to continue their protest against the ongoing genocide in Gaza.
The police assault, involving batons, resulted in severe injuries among the demonstrators. Both students and supporters suffered skull injuries, which led to bleeding, and facial fractures.

Dutch police are once again evicting the newly set up Palestine solidarity encampment at the University of Amsterdam. With the use of bulldozers, authorities are beginning to demolish the encampment’s barricades.
The previous encampment was already violently broken up after an assault by pro-Israeli attackers and a subsequent police operation; police, equipped with riot gear, batons, and shields, used a bulldozer to tear down the student’s barricades and arrested over 100 students.
Undeterred, students in Amsterdam have once again erected barricades at the new encampment, expecting a similarly violent eviction.

Today’s Victory Day, marking the defeat of Nazi Germany, we remember one of the most famous moments from newly liberated Berlin. The video shows Maria Limanskaya, a young Red Army woman, dancing and directing traffic in front of the Brandenburg Gate.
Limanskaya was born in Volgograd and joined the war in 1942 in the ranks of the Red Army when she was only 18 years old. She was thrown into the unbelievably difficult task of capturing Berlin. A cameraman named Anatoly Aronov captured her performance on film, and it immediately went viral worldwide.
After the war, she returned to her native village and worked at a library before becoming a nurse. It was there that she saw her famous photo for the first time, shown by one of her patients in the “Rabotnitsa” (The Woman Worker) magazine.
Maria Limanskaya was awarded the medals “For the Liberation of Warsaw,” “For the Capture of Berlin,” and “For Victory over Germany.” She is still alive today at the age of 100.

BREAKING: Police are storming Berlin's Free University and dragging out students who have occupied the uni demanding an end to the genocide in Gaza.
Also amongst the students' demands is for academic freedom to be protected and an end to Germany's repression of students, an irony which is apparently lost on the authorities who have ordered this police raid.

Today marks 70 years since Vietnam’s historic victory over French colonial forces at the Battle of Dien Bien Phu. The battle is considered one of the greatest battles of the 20th century, precipitating the end of French colonial rule in Southeast Asia.
At the time, the Viet Minh, led by communist revolutionary Ho Chi Minh, spearheaded the Anti-French Resistance War, resisting French colonial rule following attempts to reinstate it after World War II.
After a 56-day-long bloody battle and a final assault on May 7, the French-held garrison at Dien Bien Phu fell to Viet Minh forces bravely led by Vo Nguyen Giap.
Just months after the Vietnamese victory at Dien Bien Phu, the French were forced to withdraw from the country, signing the Geneva Accords in July 1954.

On this day in 1976, revolutionary journalist, author, and communist Ulrike Meinhof died. She went on to become one of the most prominent figures of the radical West German ’68 movement.
She was a well-known journalist in progressive and intellectual circles in her hometown of Hamburg. The legacy of the Nazi era marked the youth of her generation, as young people often literally sat with Nazi relatives at the same kitchen table.
Meinhof gained international attention as one of the founders of the communist guerrilla organization Red Army Faction (RAF), to which she contributed as an author influenced by Che Guevara, Vladimir Lenin, and Mao Zedong.
After being captured by West German authorities, Meinhof died in solitary confinement at the age of 42, and although the official verdict was suicide, many did not accept this explanation, suspecting that she and her comrades had been murdered.

Israel continues to intensify its offensive on Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip. Several areas have come under nonstop bombardment, taking the lives of over 55 people and injuring at least 200 others. The offensive forced thousands of people to flee into central Gaza, mainly to Deir el-Balah city.
Israel’s seizure of the Rafah crossing on the border with Egypt has led to the cutting off lifesaving aid deliveries into Gaza. The offensive and the evacuation order further reduced access to healthcare in an already decimated health system, leaving people with almost no options for even basic medical care.
Rafah was considered the last shelter and safe place for Gazans, where around 1.7 million people were sheltering. Now, with the new offensive, people have no place left to go, including the 600,000 children in Rafah whose lives are now at an even higher risk due to Israeli shelling.

May 8 is the day several European countries celebrate their liberation from Nazi occupation. Even though most of Eastern and Central Europe was liberated by Soviet troops, lies, myths, and misconceptions about the Red Army remain prevalent, especially in the West. What is less known, however, is that many of those myths stem from Nazi and anti-communist propaganda. Here are some of the most common myths debunked.

Today, Victory Day, or the Day of Liberation from Nazi barbarism, is celebrated across Europe, marking the Red Army’s final defeat of the Wehrmacht on its own soil in 1945. On the night of May 8, 1945, the Wehrmacht command signed the instrument of surrender, ending World War II in Europe.
Watch archive footage filmed in 1945 of the world-famous military parade held by the Red Army in Moscow following the defeat of Nazi Germany, which was prepared in only one month. The parade featured soldiers who had distinguished themselves in battle and the destruction of Nazi symbols confiscated during the war.
The Soviet Union lost a staggering 27 million citizens to Hitler’s war of extermination. 5.7 million members of the Red Army fell into German captivity, where about 3.3 million of them died of hunger, cold, disease, forced labor, or were shot.

How much was left of the Nazi state? Quite a lot. Here are selected shocking examples - but the tip of a giant iceberg.
The fascist apparatus involved 45 million Germans. While the Soviet-initiated Nuremberg trials brought key figures to justice, the new West German state officially ended the denazification process as early as 1951.
As a result, many people with a former Nazi past ended up again in the political apparatus of West Germany. In 1957, 77% of the German Ministry of Justice’s senior officials were former Nazi Party members, while others were systematically recruited from the West.

Spanish universities join the international wave of student occupations in solidarity with Palestine. Students in Madrid and Barcelona held assemblies today, where they decided to occupy their campuses to demand an end to all cooperation with Israel.
Students at the University of Valencia have been in occupation for almost a week now. They were the first in Spain to take this step, but they are now joined by the Complutense University of Madrid and the University of Barcelona. The University of Zaragoza is expected to join this Thursday.
This wave of occupations began at Columbia University in New York but has now spread all over the US and beyond, including Europe and Asia.

We spoke to Momodou Taal, an international student in the US at risk of deportation for being pro-Palestine. Taal participated in the Palestine solidarity encampment at Cornell University in the state of New York for which he was subsequently suspended. Despite the risks Taal and many other international students remain undeterred and willing to continue to protest the ongoing Gaza genocide. Listen to what Taal has to say about the US government’s deliberate targeting of international students.

UPDATE: We are on the ground as police have violently evicted the Palestine solidarity encampment on Berlin’s Free University campus. Police have previously stormed a building, dragging out students and using pepper spray against them. In response, students have set off the fire alarm inside. The protest was organized by a broad coalition of students in Berlin.
The university’s Wi-Fi connection has been cut off, possibly by the university administration, hindering live coverage of the police violence.

“This is the most revolutionary act, [...], to tell the truth.” – The global Palestine protest camp wave hit Hamburg, in the heart of Israel's second most important arms supplier, Germany. Around 200 people gathered in response to Israel’s Rafah invasion, which threatened to take the extermination war to a new level.
Activists quickly set up a camp with food supplies and overnight accommodation, with the plan to hold an indefinite Gaza vigil next to the University of Hamburg.
In speeches, the activists emphasized the revolutionary character of the encampment movement, which is spreading worldwide and standing firm despite massive police violence. Hamburg was, at times, the peak of the German crackdown, with months of complete bans on all Palestine protests shortly after October 7.

Pro-Israeli attackers just charged at the newly set-up pro-Palestinian university encampment in Amsterdam. The attackers threw fireworks at the encampment and violently assaulted students. Hours prior, the students had set up barricades, anticipating attacks by Zionist groups and police repression.
Similar attacks had previously occurred with zero police intervention at the former encampment at UCLA in the US before police began brutally clearing the encampment.

Pro-Palestinian university protests have now reached Amsterdam, Netherlands. students around the world are beginning to occupy their campuses and demand an end to complicity in the Gaza genocide. Starting in the US, the militant movement reminiscent of the Vietnam War era is spreading to Europe and beyond.
