India’s far-right BJP is leading in the polls as the South Asian country counts the votes of the largest-ever election in history. However, the BJP could still fall short of a majority as the united opposition led by the Indian National Congress makes gains.
The BJP, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has been at the helm of the country for a total of 16 years. During their rule, the party’s policies have had a profound impact, turning the country into a living nightmare for many.
Exit polls suggest Modi could return to power for a third consecutive term. Does this mean darker days lie ahead?

While on the phone with the Israeli occupation forces, a Palestinian man watched his home get bombed before the call even ended. Israel is currently intensifying its bombardment of southern and central Gaza.
The deadly strikes targeted residential buildings of the Bureij refugee camp, located in central Gaza, along with other areas. At least 71 people were killed and 182 were injured.

Injured people were brought to the al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital. The majority of the people targeted were women and children. Videos showed doctors attempting to save an infant that was targeted in the strike, but ultimately were unable to.
World leaders have condemned the Israeli attack in Rafah on May 26, where children were killed. Nevertheless, Israel is continuing its relentless war in Gaza that has killed over 36,439 people and injured at least 82,627.

“It looks like they came to kill.” — French security forces are said to have taken back control over New Caledonia’s capital, Nouméa. At the same time, eyewitness reports of excessive police violence are increasing, including allegations that French forces are shooting at and abducting Indigenous protesters.
French Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin said that “a major police operation has taken place successfully” in the Riviere-Salee district of Nouméa, the last area of the Pacific archipelago’s capital under pro-independence protesters’ control. Darmanin said that around 400 officers, including elite anti-terrorism and anti-organized crime police, as well as military units had cleared 26 barricades and arrested 12 people as part of the operation.
At least seven people have already been killed, hundreds wounded, and hundreds more arrested after pro-independence protests erupted across New Caledonia.

The Berlin anti-Shah protester Benno Ohnesorg was shot dead at point-blank range by the West German policeman Karl-Heinz Kurras with a bullet in the back of his head on this day in 1967.
The murder was a turning point for the radicalizing left-wing student movement of the late 1960s, but also a new high point in the collusion between the German press and the police under their common anti-communist objective.
Ohnesorg took part in protests against the visit of the Persian Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, who was particularly despised by the global student movement due to his crackdown on progressive forces.
The shot to the back of the head was in many ways the decisive escalation point that led to the creation of the left-wing Red Army Faction guerrilla organization in West Germany.
Germany's number one publishing house, the far-right “Springer,” tried to sell what is today described as the “targeted murder” of Ohnesorg as a justified response by the policeman.

The notorious “Sylt video” showing Germany’s Prosecco elite partying and chanting Nazi slogans is just the tip of the iceberg. The unofficially dubbed “re-migration hype” song is now going viral. It’s unclear how many similar incidents occurred that did not go viral.
While the international reaction to the Sylt video was dominated mainly by outrage, in many cases the German media tended to come to the defense of those shown. In this video, we take a closer look at the extent to which the German media’s reaction is at odds with their defamatory coverage of Palestinian protests in Germany in recent months.

US and British airstrikes killed at least 16 civilians in Yemen and injured 35 others, according to local media.
The airstrikes come a day after Ansarallah shot down a US drone over Yemen's Marib province using a surface-to-air missile.
Earlier, Yemen's Ansarallah intensified its military operation against Israel and its allies in response to Israel's horrifying massacre in Rafah less than a week ago.
Ansarallah media said it targeted 10 ships affiliated with the US, UK, and Israel in the Red, Arabian, and Mediterranean seas, as well as the Indian Ocean.
Yemen's leader Abdul-Malik al-Houthi stated that the "number of ships targeted since the beginning of the support operations for Gaza reached 129."
At the turn of the year, the US and UK began attacking Yemen after Ansarallah launched a naval blockade against Israel's access to the Red Sea. They continue to demand an end to the extermination war against Gaza.

The grip of Sudan's war on the town of El Fasher in the Darfur region tightens as the military standoff between the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and Sudan's armed forces rages on.
The first RSF offensives were repelled by the military, resulting in a days-long battle for El Fasher.
Some 18 million people across the country are facing hunger and five million are on the brink of famine. The World Food Program reported that 1,200 metric tons of food supplies for some 116,000 people are being transported to the Darfur region to ease the emergency.
Town after town has fallen into the hands of the RSF. The city of El Fasher is considered the last bastion of the Sudanese military in western Sudan.
The RSF's military advances are accompanied by ethnic cleansing against Sudan's non-Arab population, Human Rights Watch reports.

Happy 93rd birthday to the Cuban revolutionary icon, Raúl Castro! From a guerrilla fighter in the early days of the Cuban Revolution to the presidential successor to his brother and comrade, Fidel Castro, Raúl is among the most influential in communist history.
Raul, a rebellious student, turned to Marxism-Leninism while in exile in Mexico with his friend Che Guevara. Shortly afterward, he fearlessly led a guerrilla fight in Cuba against the troops of the US-backed dictator Batista.
Raúl can be credited with an earlier commitment to socialism when compared to his brother Fidel, who initially leaned more nationalist in his politics.
Following the revolution’s victory, he modernized Cuba’s “Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias” into the most modern army in Latin America. At the time, Raúl became the youngest defense minister in the world.
After the collapse of the Soviet Union, Raúl Castro played a crucial role in ensuring Cuba’s survival.

A fierce encounter between pro-Pakistan Kashmiri militants and Indian security forces has erupted in Pulwama’s Nehama village in Indian-occupied Kashmir. Two Lashkar-e-Tayyiba (LeT) militants opened fire on Indian police, army, and paramilitary personnel as they cordoned off the town, trapping the hiding militants inside.
As a result of the ensuing gunfight, the house where the militants were trapped caught fire and the fighting has since come to a halt. However, there is still no confirmation regarding whether the militants have been killed.
With thousands of members, LeT (“Army of the Righteous”), is one of the largest Kashmiri militant groups. Since 1993, the group has conducted numerous attacks against Indian troops in Indian-occupied Kashmir as well as several high-profile attacks inside India itself.
The two militants involved in the clash are said to include a LeT commander who has long been on the radar of Indian security forces.

French troops in helicopters appear to open fire on Indigenous protesters in New Caledonia, as seen in footage circulating on Social Media.
Helicopters were already being used to transport supplies to the security forces, but using them to shoot at protesters would pose a further escalation.
This comes as French President Emmanuel Macron had already announced plans to send more helicopters and armed vehicles to crush pro-independence protests.
Six people have been killed so far by French colonial security forces.
The anti-colonial uprising began in rejection of French plans to dilute the voting power of the Indigenous population by allowing French settlers to vote in local elections.

Soup kitchen organizers in Argentina held a protest to denounce the government's cuts to their food banks.
Under the last government, social movements were given budgets and food supplies to organize soup kitchens in working-class neighborhoods. However, since "libertarian" President Javier Milei took power, that program has been abolished and the soup kitchens are now empty.
The Milei government still has warehouses with food supplies left over from the last government but is refusing to hand them over to the organizers. In fact, the government is pressing charges against some groups, such as "Polo Obrero," for having received government money to distribute food.
Milei's free-market agenda has left the country with an annual inflation rate of 287%, the highest of any country worldwide. Poverty has risen to 55%, up from 41% when he took office.
