Did you know that the first gay marriage in the Philippines took place in the guerrilla territories of the New People’s Army, the armed wing of the Communist Party of the Philippines? In 2005, the revolutionary LGBTQI+ marriage broke legal barriers to gay marriage.
“The only way the LGBTQ community can find liberation from gender oppression is to topple down class oppression,” according to a gay party member, who also added, “We should forge unity with other classes and sectors against a common enemy. Gay or not, we are all victims of imperialism, feudalism, and bureaucrat capitalism.”
In the 1990s, the party accepted the idea that all LGBTQI+ relationships should be considered equal to heterosexual ones. A 2019 Social Weather Stations survey shows that 60% of Filipinos believe the LGBTQI+ community is discriminated against.

Violent conflict in Haiti continues after the US-backed "transition" that was supposed to control the situation and prepare the country for foreign intervention.
Over the weekend, three police officers were killed in an attack claimed by Jimmy "Barbecue" Cherizier, leader of the G9 gang. Furthermore, the new Prime Minister, Garry Conille, was hospitalized within just days of taking office.
Conille, a former UN official, was taken to a Port-au-Prince hospital due to an undisclosed health issue. He arrived to Haiti on June 1st to be sworn in as Prime Minister, a prelude to the US-funded foreign intervention led by Kenyan forces, which has been delayed numerous times and is now set to take place two weeks from now.

Thousands have taken to France’s streets as President Emmanuel Macron dissolved the country’s parliament. Following a crushing defeat to the country’s far-right, Macron has called for snap legislative elections in an unexpected turn of events.
Marine Le Pen’s far-right National Rally party won the elections by a landslide, winning 31.5% of the vote - more than double that of Macron’s Renaissance party.
Macron justified his call for snap elections by saying “France needs a clear majority to act in serenity and harmony.” However, what may seem like a “commitment to democratic ideals” could actually open the doors to the country’s rising far-right.
At the same time, other far-right parties across Europe have seen unprecedented gains. In Germany, the AfD took second place in its European Parliament elections, with many right-wing parties bolstering their position.

On this day 59 years ago, the people of Oman’s Dhofar province ignited their armed struggle. Motivated by Arab nationalist sentiment, the struggle aimed to overthrow the feudal Sultan Said bin Taimur, who had treated Dhofar as his personal domain.
In 1968, taking inspiration from the previous year’s success of the Yemeni National Liberation Front, the Dhofar Liberation Front changed its name to the Popular Front for the Liberation of Oman and the Arabian Gulf (PFLOAG) and officially embraced Marxism-Leninism as its fundamental ideology.
The PFLOAG drew considerable inspiration from Maoist theory and the People’s Republic of China, endeavoring to position the Omani people’s struggle within the broader context of the decolonization movement that swept across Asia, Africa, and Latin America.
Have you heard of Israel's "Netzah Yehuda" unit? This section of their military has committed so many human rights abuses that even the US wanted to sanction them. Nevertheless, the IDF has stood by them and the State Department has quietly dropped the matter.

The most far-right EU parliament in history is likely heading for victory in the upcoming EU election. Over 373 million Europeans will be able to cast their vote, but with the far-right dominating the polls, the fate of the future European Parliament seems to have already been decided.
Far-right parties already rule large parts of Europe or are on the verge of seizing power. While the far-right parties present themselves as anti-system insurgents, their programs facilitate the exact opposite.
The broad policies of the far-right parties include increasing militarization, further barricading the EU's borders, and exploiting the spreading pessimism of economic and social crises to crack down on progressive and revolutionary forces.

“It is so important not to be used, as the queer community, to wash the genocide that has been conducted by the Israeli forces in Gaza.”
Tel Aviv Pride March: A day of rainbow flags, colourful parades, and the pinkwashing of Israeli war crimes.
And standing firmly against Israel’s pink washing narrative, is “Queers for Palestine.” This intersectional movement is gaining global momentum as it fights Israel’s erasure of queer Palestian voices, as well as the ongoing occupation and genocide in Gaza.
Despite being dismissed by out-of-touch, conservative media pundits as a “chickens for KFC” movement, Queers for Palestine has maintained a powerful presence at Palestinian protests and among the LGBTQI+ community worldwide.
Hasan Kilani is a queer Palestinian activist with “Queers for Palestine.” He explains the hypocrisy of Tel Aviv’s June pride march and how he is using his voice to fight back.

Did you know that Maoism influenced the People’s Democratic Republic of Yemen (PDRY) between 1969 and 1978?
Despite the commonly held belief that PDR Yemen was nothing but a Soviet satellite state, it had a brief period between 1969 and 1978 when Maoist China influenced the country more than the Soviet Union. During this period, Yemen had a very small industrialized proletariat and relied on the peasantry for economic development.
Yemen’s socialists successfully built a welfare state with high-quality education, guaranteed employment, and subsidized housing.

The death toll from Israel’s massacre in Nuseirat refugee camp surpassed 274 with over 698 injured. Israel bombed a market and surrounding buildings as a cover up for a hostage rescue operation.
The operation was jointly carried out by Israeli and US special forces who disguised themselves as people fleeing the South. Witnesses say that they used the US-built pier (which was supposedly constructed to provide aid to Palestinians) to invade the camp.
European Union High Representative Josep Borrell condemned the attack as “another massacre of civilians,” adding ”The bloodbath must end immediately.” Israeli politicians and the US praised the success of the operation in rescuing hostages. Meanwhile, Gaza’s ruling party announced that three other hostages were killed by Israeli strikes.
Israel’s relentless war on Gaza over the past nine months has killed over 37,124 people including over 15,000 children and injured more than 84,712.

Did you know that Israel's bombing of Gaza's beaches was in the IDF rulebook long before October 7? On this day, the world heard the cries of 11-year-old Huda Ghalia, whose family was killed by Israeli air forces on the beach of Beit Lahiya in Gaza in 2006.
Huda’s life was forever changed when she saw her father and five of her siblings killed by a shell from an Israeli barge while they were on a family trip to the beach.
A Palestinian Videographer documented the details of the massacre as his lens captured young Huda searching for her father and siblings before finding them lying in their blood on the beach, causing her to scream and wail.
In 2017, Huda succeeded in earning a law degree, and she continues to hold onto the hope of being able to pursue legal action against the Israeli army in international courts.
But as Israel’s relentless extermination war continues, the distressing accounts of suffering are being echoed time and again in Gaza.

As Donald Trump leads the polls, Biden is pivoting towards anti-immigrant rhetoric with real-world consequences for millions, many of whom have been forced to flee their home countries due to the effects of US sanctions and imperialism.
A similar response can also be seen across Europe, as far-right groups have been able to shift the entire political spectrum to the right on this issue with the complicity of liberals and social democrats.

”The total media blackout that Israel is imposing on the Gaza Strip encourages Israel to do more massacres.” Listen to our colleague Hassan R. Esdodi report from Rafah, where most of the journalists have left. Rafah has been turned into a ghost town as most people have fled to the north in search of safety. As more journalists leave, Rafah is experiencing a media blackout that encourages Israel to commit more crimes against the people remaining in the city.
At the beginning of the Israeli invasion, Rafah was designated a safe zone and 1.7 million people were sheltering there. Despite this, Israel continued its invasion of the city and blockade of all aid, irrespective of global condemnation.

A Jordanian man set himself on fire in front of the King’s Palace in the southern city of Aqaba. Videos shared on social media show the man entering the gate in flames as the palace guards shot him. The incident happened last night and quickly spread all over social media.
Some local accounts stated that the man was protesting the poverty and bad economic situation in the country. Others claimed that he was protesting the Jordanian government’s complicity in the war on Gaza given it has maintained diplomatic relations with Israel and supplied the occupation with goods.

For months, violent protests have regularly erupted in the capital, Tirana, against alleged corruption scandals and links between high-level Albanian politicians and organized crime. Protesters demand the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama, who denies the allegations.
Two police officers were injured as protests outside parliament turned violent. The protests led to clashes with the police, with burning barricades, tear gas, and even attempts to set fire to government buildings.
The unrest is also driven by the Albanian right-wing opposition Democratic Party of Albania, one of the two main parties in Albania, alongside the Social Democratic Party of Prime Minister Edi Rama.
The turmoil started and is running in parallel with an Italy-Albania deal to take 36,000 migrants from Italy, which has met with outrage from the Albanian right-wing. Italy's influence in Albanian politics is seen by some as a continuation of its occupation of the country in the 20th century.

Did you know the Bolsheviks decriminalized homosexuality immediately after the October Revolution in 1917?
While some historians try to dismiss the legalization after the victory over the Tsar as an “accident,” the Soviets insisted on the legalization of homosexuality when they revised the Penal Code in 1926.
