We spoke to Momodou Taal, an international student in the US at risk of deportation for being pro-Palestine. Taal participated in the Palestine solidarity encampment at Cornell University in the state of New York for which he was subsequently suspended. Despite the risks Taal and many other international students remain undeterred and willing to continue to protest the ongoing Gaza genocide. Listen to what Taal has to say about the US government’s deliberate targeting of international students.

UPDATE: We are on the ground as police have violently evicted the Palestine solidarity encampment on Berlin’s Free University campus. Police have previously stormed a building, dragging out students and using pepper spray against them. In response, students have set off the fire alarm inside. The protest was organized by a broad coalition of students in Berlin.
The university’s Wi-Fi connection has been cut off, possibly by the university administration, hindering live coverage of the police violence.

“This is the most revolutionary act, [...], to tell the truth.” – The global Palestine protest camp wave hit Hamburg, in the heart of Israel's second most important arms supplier, Germany. Around 200 people gathered in response to Israel’s Rafah invasion, which threatened to take the extermination war to a new level.
Activists quickly set up a camp with food supplies and overnight accommodation, with the plan to hold an indefinite Gaza vigil next to the University of Hamburg.
In speeches, the activists emphasized the revolutionary character of the encampment movement, which is spreading worldwide and standing firm despite massive police violence. Hamburg was, at times, the peak of the German crackdown, with months of complete bans on all Palestine protests shortly after October 7.

Pro-Israeli attackers just charged at the newly set-up pro-Palestinian university encampment in Amsterdam. The attackers threw fireworks at the encampment and violently assaulted students. Hours prior, the students had set up barricades, anticipating attacks by Zionist groups and police repression.
Similar attacks had previously occurred with zero police intervention at the former encampment at UCLA in the US before police began brutally clearing the encampment.

Pro-Palestinian university protests have now reached Amsterdam, Netherlands. students around the world are beginning to occupy their campuses and demand an end to complicity in the Gaza genocide. Starting in the US, the militant movement reminiscent of the Vietnam War era is spreading to Europe and beyond.
The protesters on the campus of Amsterdam University paraphrased communist revolutionary Mao Zedong, “dare to struggle, dare to win,” and emphasized the time for merely asking for their demands is over.

Mexican students spoke to red. Media about why they've joined the wave of student occupations in solidarity with Palestine. After weeks of mobilizations across campuses in the US, students at Mexico's largest university, UNAM, set up their own encampment.
Students are calling on their university and national government to break all ties with Israel. President AMLO has not done so, despite other progressive governments such as Bolivia and Colombia breaking all relations in solidarity with Gaza. Other governments, such as Brazil, have taken measures such as recalling their ambassador.
This is day four of the student occupation at the iconic UNAM university, which is considered the most prestigious in Latin America. On Wednesday, a student assembly will determine the next steps.

Will the US now invade the Netherlands if the ICC issue an arrest warrant for Netanyahu?
In 2002, the US passed a law allowing for the invasion of the ICJ if they ever prosecuted an American. After giving billions of taxpayer dollars to Netanyahu, will he now be treated as one of their own?

Praised by Mao as the continuation of China’s bourgeois-democratic revolution, the May 4 Movement of 1919 was a turning point in Chinese history that opened a space for socialist ideas and the creation of the Communist Party.
Tired of the state’s weak response to Western and Japanese imperialism, a mass student movement calling for national sovereignty challenged old feudal ideas and brought about a new cultural movement that forever shaped history. Read on.

Hundreds of protesters gathered in southeast London’s Peckham district to prevent the forced deportation of migrants to Rwanda. Protesters surrounded a bus intended for the transfer of migrants from a London hotel to the Bibby Stockholm barge, known as the “floating prison.” Police scuffled with the protesters, violently arresting a total of 45 people.
The protesters managed to halt the bus for seven hours after it turned up until it eventually left the area without any migrants onboard. Those due to be removed were said to include teenagers attending colleges in the area.
The Home Office’s detention raids on and mass arrests of asylum seekers come as the government’s Rwanda plans have gone through, enabling it to send asylum seekers arriving illegally in the UK to Rwanda to be processed within the East African country’s legal system, unable to return to the UK.

BREAKING: Police are storming Berlin's Free University and dragging out students who have occupied the uni demanding an end to the genocide in Gaza.
Also amongst the students' demands is for academic freedom to be protected and an end to Germany's repression of students, an irony which is apparently lost on the authorities who have ordered this police raid.

Today marks 70 years since Vietnam’s historic victory over French colonial forces at the Battle of Dien Bien Phu. The battle is considered one of the greatest battles of the 20th century, precipitating the end of French colonial rule in Southeast Asia.
At the time, the Viet Minh, led by communist revolutionary Ho Chi Minh, spearheaded the Anti-French Resistance War, resisting French colonial rule following attempts to reinstate it after World War II.
After a 56-day-long bloody battle and a final assault on May 7, the French-held garrison at Dien Bien Phu fell to Viet Minh forces bravely led by Vo Nguyen Giap.
Just months after the Vietnamese victory at Dien Bien Phu, the French were forced to withdraw from the country, signing the Geneva Accords in July 1954.

Читать полностью…NOW: Gazans are celebrating as news just came in that Gaza's resistance agreed to a new ceasefire proposal from Qatar and Egypt. Israel has not yet agreed to the ceasefire proposal.
This comes after Israel launched multiple air raids on Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip in preparation for a ground invasion. Israel's Minister of Defense and Chief of Staff have reportedly approved plans to move into Rafah.

The long-feared Rafah ground invasion threatens to begin at any moment. For the more than 1.7 million displaced people in Rafah, there is no going back. Our colleague and Palestinian journalist Hassan Esdodi gives an overview.
The Israeli invasion of Rafah is estimated to be so disastrous that even the West, otherwise staunch Israel allies, are flinching. Thousands are fleeing in panic, their destination unknown.
Esdodi reports that the Israeli army has ordered some of the displaced to evacuate to Khan Younis, which is in ruins from previous Israeli attacks.
The situation could also escalate on other war fronts beyond the region. Yemen's Ansarallah threatened a new phase of war against Israel. In recent months, Lebanon's resistance groups have made it clear that attacks on Gaza are intertwined with the intensity of the war on the northern front.

The worst floods in 80 years hit several parts of Brazil, displacing almost 90,000 people, with the most devastating impact in Rio Grande do Sul. The death toll rises dangerously fast towards 100, while at least 103 others are missing and 155 have been injured.
Authorities called the destruction "unprecedented," but the heavy rains were the fourth such environmental disaster in the state in a year, following floods in July, September and November 2023 that killed 75 people.
This year, the El Niño weather phenomenon is escalating environmental disasters in the Amazon region, but scientists are warning that the rate of extreme rains caused by man-made climate change is skyrocketing.
Brazil plays a critical role in the world's ecosystem, producing 20% of the planet's oxygen and 16% of its freshwater. Leftist President Lula da Silva, who took office in January 2023, has committed to prioritizing the fight against climate change.

On this day in 1972, the Turkish state executed 25-year-old revolutionary student activist Deniz Gezmiş. The Marxist-Leninist was a leading revolutionary during Turkey's rebellious 60s and 70s.
Born into a middle-class family in Ankara in 1947, Gezmiş founded the People's Liberation Army of Turkey. He participated in many actions ranging from university occupations to armed struggles, often targeting US military troops, bases, and ships.
Gezmiş fought for socialism and the emancipation of the working class, even in the face of immense persecution. On May 6, 1972, he was hung along with two of his comrades, Yusuf Aslan and Huseyin Inan, after being convicted of "attempting to overthrow the Turkish government."
Deniz Gezmiş's death led to protests from his supporters who saw him as a revolutionary martyr. Before he was hung he shouted: "Long live Marxism-Leninism! Long live the brotherhood of the Turkish and Kurdish peoples! Long live the workers! Down with imperialism!"

Happy Birthday to the mastermind behind over a century of communist struggle, Karl Marx! Although Marx died in 1883, he left behind a legacy that sparked revolutions worldwide and remains the sharpest tool for the fight for liberation today: Marxism.
From the Soviet Union to China, through Africa to Latin America, across all continents, Marxism turned oppressive conditions upside down. Friedrich Engels, his closest comrade, once said of him: "Fighting was his element. And he fought with a passion, a tenacity and a success such as few could rival."
We've selected some of our favorite quotes from Marx's works that are more relevant than ever. What are your favorites?

Molotov cocktails flew through the air as Colombia's riot police clashed with student protesters outside Bogotá's National University. The clashes erupted after undemocratic university elections, with students expressing outrage at the self-declared appointment of the unpopular Ismael Peña as rector.
The already simmering tensions between students and authorities reached a boiling point with the announcement of Peña's appointment. This sparked a series of protests, with students initially blocking streets near the campus, which later escalated into violent street fights.
Colombia's anti-riot ESMAD unit, notorious for excessive force, was deployed to quell the protests. Journalists, including a red. Media colleague, were also targeted by the police water cannons.
These clashes represent the latest wave of militant student protests that have been rocking several cities across Colombia for months. The student movement rallies against a "collapsing" education system.

In 1970, the US National Guard killed four students in the state of Ohio for protesting against the Vietnam War, the Kent State massacre.
Today, right-wing media and politicians are calling for campus protests against Israeli genocide to be crushed by that same National Guard. Are they hoping for the same outcome as in 1970?

Israeli forces released the body of a Palestinian prisoner with clear torture marks. The body of the 33-year-old Ismail Khader was dropped off at the Kerem Abu Salem crossing along with other prisoners.
The Palestinian Prisoners Club had announced the death of Khader and Dr. Adnan Al-Bursh, head of orthopedics at Al-Shifa Hospital, whose body Israel is still holding. Al-Bursh was arrested by the Israeli army in December as he was treating patients at Al-Adwa Hospital in northern Gaza. “The two victims died of torture and crimes committed against Gazan detainees,” their statement said.
The data available on Gaza detainees remains scant. The only information provided by the Israeli Prison Service refers to them as “non-legitimate combatants,” with a total number of 849 as of April. On March 17, an investigation by Israeli newspaper Haaretz revealed that at least 27 Gazan detainees have died in custody at Israeli military facilities since the outbreak of the war.
