Over 1,500 fascists in Italy have gathered in the streets of Milan, doing the fascist salute. The gathering took place as Milan’s far-right organized a torchlight procession to commemorate the youth Sergio Ramelli on the anniversary of his death in 1975.

The event was organized by the Patriot’s Network, with members from the fascist organizations Forza Nuova, CasaPound, and Lealtà Azione attending the event.

Sergio Ramelli was a militant member of the Youth Front of the Italian Social Movement (MSI). The MSI is Italy’s leading fascist party and is largely regarded as the successor of fascist dictator Benito Mussolini’s original National Fascist Party and Republican Fascist Party.

In 1975, when militant confrontations between fascists and Italy’s left had been ongoing, far-left militants killed Ramelli, a prominent fascist at the Technical Institute Ettore Molinari. He has since been elevated to an important symbol of Italy’s fascist movement.

French students are being forcefully evicted from Sorbonne University in Paris by the police. Pro-Palestinian demonstrators have set up tents in the university courtyard, rallying with chants like “Gaza, Sorbonne is with you.” These protests, mirroring similar actions at Science Po, began on Monday.

In response, Sorbonne University authorities have been restricting building access since noon. Police have escorted approximately 50 protesters out of the premises.

These demonstrations are part of a larger wave of protests sweeping across Western countries, initially sparked by university students in the US.

Meta is now internationally limiting the political content you can see on their platforms. Here’s a quick guide on how to stop Instagram and Threads from deciding what shows up on your feed.

What Meta considers to be “political content” remains extremely vague. In-app settings describe “political content” as “likely to mention governments, elections, or social topics that affect a group of people and/or society at large.” This way, Meta is free to arbitrarily decide what “political content” is “eligible for recommendation” or not.

Videos capturing a march of the communist guerrilla ELN together with the local population in the northeast of the country, San Pablo, North Santander, went viral on Colombian social media. According to local reports, the participants bid farewell to the recently fallen ELN (National Liberation Army) combatant alias Tigre.

Currently, the ELN and the Colombian state are in a year-long ceasefire as part of negotiation talks. However, this does not apply to the guerrilla's battles with Colombia’s powerful right-wing paramilitaries. The self-described Marxist ELN is Colombia’s largest left-wing guerrilla movement, with 6,000 estimated members.

The talks between Colombia’s first left-wing president, Gustavo Petro, and the political-military group mark a historic turning point in the relationship between the two warring parties. Previous negotiations have already secured humanitarian aid for those affected by the war, the release of some imprisoned guerrilla fighters, and more.

Is Europe an Islamic society? Far-right groups on the continent propagate racism and hatred against Muslims when, in reality, Islam has shaped and modernised Europe over many centuries. In the case of Spain and Portugal, their peninsula was Islamic for nearly a millennium. Their culture has its roots in what they profess to hate.

This is the story of Al-Andalus and Islamic Europe.

On this day, 79 years ago, the Italian fascist dictator Benito Mussolini was executed, marking the end of more than 20 years of fascism in Italy. We have colorized photos from the era showcasing Italian anti-fascist partisan fighters.

Mussolini and his mistress disguised themselves as German soldiers and attempted to flee the country. However, a communist Partisan Brigade in the village of Dongo on Lake Como identified Mussolini, captured and executed them.

The bodies of Mussolini, his mistress, and his fascist colleagues were transported to Milan where they were displayed in a piazza. A furious crowd stomped and spat on their bodies before they were strung up outside a gas station.

We interviewed Palestine Action co-founder Hudda Ammori on their mission to shut down Israel's war machine. Their work and actions have resonated globally, leading other groups to join their movement in shutting down Israeli weapons factories and companies collaborating with the occupation.

Ammori tells us how their movement started and has grown throughout the years. Regardless of state repression and criticism, their achievements speak for themselves. Palestine Action started in the UK, targeting Elbit Systems, one of the leading Israeli weapons companies producing drones and weapons used to kill Palestinians, especially in the Gaza Strip.

Staff members at US universities voice their support for students who have been persecuted by their campus administration, which has called in local police to violently break up occupations and protests in support of Gaza.

Yesterday, mass arrests took place nationwide, with over 100 detained at USC in California, another 100 at Emerson College in Boston, and dozens on many other campuses.

The number of student occupations has also increased, with UCLA, Ohio State, Northwestern University, George Washington University, and Georgetown all joining the wave of encampments being erected to protest against Israel's genocide in Palestine.

Similar protests have spread to Europe with students at Sciences Po and Sorbonne University. In Greece, students have also taken to the streets for Gaza.

Texas police stormed the campus of UT Austin and arrested 43 students who defied orders to clear away the protest encampment that had been erected in support of Gaza.

The mobilizations in Texas show how solidarity with Palestine is spreading far beyond the traditional bastions of student activism, as well as the absence of so-called “free speech” and “First Amendment” rights in conservative states that claim to champion these values.

Nevertheless, despite the repression and arrests, students continue to protest daily and refuse to abandon the encampments. Texas Governor Greg Abbott has said that “no encampments will be allowed,” yet those encampments remain.

Palestinian students at Birzeit University expelled the German Ambassador to the Palestinian Authority from the Palestinian Museum due to Germany’s support for the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip. The ambassador was kicked out on the day Germany is facing an ICJ judgment over complicity in genocide.

Hundreds of students stormed the Palestinian Museum building while the ambassador attended a conference with representatives from Ireland, Spain, and Belgium. Videos show the ambassador fleeing as students chased him and attacked the armored vehicles in the ambassador’s convoy.

Germany has faced global criticism for its role in supporting Israel in its conflict with Palestinians in Gaza. Germany provides major political support and is the second-largest exporter of weapons to Israel after the US.

NB: Earlier we posted a video that incorrectly identified Italy's representative to the EU mission as the German Ambassador.

Columbia University students have occupied Hamilton Hall, the campus’s main administrative building. The breach began after the university suspended students who refused to leave the Gaza solidarity encampment for nearly two weeks.

Hundreds of students formed a human chain before the building, where civil rights and anti-war protesters demonstrated in 1968.

The students unfurled a banner from a balcony window at Hamilton Hall that read “Hind’s Hall” in honor of Hind Rajab, a 6-year-old girl who was killed in Gaza City by the Israeli army.

Videos reminiscent of a warzone emerged from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. A drug war erupted as police launched a crackdown on the “Red Command” drug cartel in the Complexo do Alemão favela, indiscriminately shooting at the area. At least 350 police officers are said to have been involved in the early morning operation, including elite troops from the military police equipped with helicopters, armored vehicles, and heavy weapons.

Authorities accuse the cartel of using the poor working-class slum in the north of the city as a “bunker” and the local population as a “shield.” Dozens of civilians have already been killed in similar raids over recent years, with innocent victims reported to have been gunned down by stray bullets in their own homes as police and gang members exchange fire.

Students at George Washington University (GWU) have torn down the barricades surrounding their encampment and piled them in the middle of the campus.

The pro-Palestinian encampment in University Yard entered its fifth day, as dozens of tents remain in the plaza and more than 30 additional tents spill onto H Street, which police closed off to traffic. Hundreds of protesters convened outside the encampment chanting, while more than 20 student organizations issued statements or delivered speeches standing in solidarity with the protesters.

The coalition of demonstrators is demanding that each university drop charges against student protesters, protect pro-Palestinian speech on their campuses, divest from companies selling technology and weapons to Israel, disclose all endowments and investments, and end all academic partnerships with the state of Israel.

Student protesters at UCLA, in California, were attacked by pro-Israel groups from outside campus who attempted to clear away the encampment in support of Palestine.

Campus security pepper sprayed protesters to break up the clashes that broke out. Despite the organized attacks by outside groups, the encampment at UCLA continues to expand, with their central demand being that their university divest from Israeli apartheid.

Jonathon Greenblatt, CEO of the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), the largest pro-Israel group in the US, was among those organizing the attempts to clear away student protests in LA. He spoke at the rally next to the student encampment.

It's been nearly two decades since the world was shocked by leaked images of US soldiers committing war crimes at Abu Ghraib. But the grim legacy of this scandal still haunts us today, as those responsible for these heinous acts continue to evade justice.

Back in April 2004, the world was stunned by the release of hundreds of photos showing US military personnel brutalizing and sexually assaulting detainees at the infamous prison in Iraq. The Red Cross reported that up to 90% of the prisoners there had been wrongly detained. This month, victims of the Abu Ghraib torture had their first day in court, but not against the real culprit, the US government.

Despite then-Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld's admission of responsibility, those who directed and oversaw these atrocities have yet to face any real consequences.

A devastating civil war has been raging in the Southeast Asian country of Myanmar ever since the military regained power in a coup in 2021. Anti-junta resistance forces made up of ethnic armed organizations and parallel government groups may have finally turned the tide in their favor.

Last year, the anti-junta resistance forces launched several offensives, making significant gains and dealing a heavy blow to the military government. The Special Advisory Council for Myanmar (SAC-M) said in September last year that the junta only controlled 72 out of the country’s 330 townships.

While the country’s capital, Naypyidaw, remains the government’s stronghold and the commercial hub and former capital of Yangon also remains under government control, many of the ethnic armed organizations that precede the coup have taken over entire states.

“This is a test for Germany’s democracy as we know it.” — Berlin police began cracking down on the protest camp in front of the German parliament.

The camp, set up in early April in protest of Germany’s complicity in Israel’s war of extermination, his currently being evicted by German police, with several arrests being made and the camp being dismantled.
