Right-wing Christians and supporters of the “Lebanese Forces” party attacked Syrian refugees in the Lebanese city of Byblos. The attacks also targeted cars and shops belonging to Syrians in the area.
These incidents stemmed from the killing of a local politician in the city on April 8. According to Lebanese security forces, Syrian kidnappers were responsible for the politician's death during a robbery attempt.
Originating from the Lebanese Civil War, the Lebanese Forces party was one of the main Christian militias at the time. Today, it remains an influential opponent of the resistance group Hezbollah in Lebanon.

Nicaragua has intensified pressure on Germany at the ICJ regarding its complicity in Israel’s genocide against Palestine. Nicaragua’s legal team pointed to the UN’s Genocide Convention, which outlines “complicity in genocide” as a punishable act.
Recent research reveals that German weapons constituted 47% of all Israeli arms imports in 2023, part of which were used directly in Gaza. Germany approved 99.75% of all arms exports to Israel despite being fully aware of the ongoing extermination war and occupation of Palestine.
The German government approved arms exports worth €326.5 million to Israel in 2023.
Israel uses German-supplied military corvettes for the naval blockade off Gaza’s coast and to launch missiles against the densely populated area. German diesel engines power the Merkava 4 tank. Israeli soldiers are equipped with German bazookas.
Simultaneously, Germany slashed its payments to UNRWA, depriving Gaza’s central aid organization of its second-largest donor.

As Germany faces mounting pressure before the ICJ court, protests outside the parliament in Berlin are joining demands to end the German state's complicity in Israel's genocide against Palestine. Germany has arguably been Israel's most uncritical ally, devoting itself to backing the occupying state no matter what.
Nicaragua repeatedly emphasized the contradiction between Germany's admissions of possible international lawbreaking in Gaza while record arms exports to Israel continue. In 2023, Germany delivered 47% of the conventional weapons imported by Israel, making it the second-largest arms supplier to Israel, behind the US.
At the same time, Germany slashed its payments to UNRWA, depriving Gaza's main aid organization of its second-largest donor. Nicaragua's legal team pointed to Article 3 under the UN's Genocide Convention, which outlines "complicity in genocide" as a punishable act.

Ecuador’s invasion of the Mexican Embassy is a result of not having any foreign policy other than pleasing the United States, says former Foreign Minister Guillaume Long.
On Friday, Ecuadorian police broke into the Mexican Embassy in Quito to arrest Jorge Glas, former Vice President to Rafael Correa, who had been granted political asylum by the Mexican government due to the persecution he has faced ever since the return to neoliberalism under ex-President Lenin Moreno.
Every Latin American government has condemned the move as a flagrant violation of the Vienna Convention, which protects Embassies as sovereign territories of each country.
Guillaume Long, Former Foreign Minister under Rafel Correa, says this shocking move results from a foreign policy that is only focused on being subservient to US interests.

Israeli forces have withdrawn from Khan Younis in the Gaza Strip, leaving the entire city destroyed beyond recognition. Following four months of intense fighting, the Israeli army announced the withdrawal of all ground forces except the Nahal Brigade. The Nahal Brigade remained in the so-called Netzarim Corridor, which cuts Gaza in half.
Following the withdrawal, streams of displaced Palestinians walked there, hoping to return to their homes from temporary shelters in Rafah. The withdrawal is not an end of the attack on southern Gaza but is meant to prepare the forces for “follow-up missions,” as stated by Israel’s Defense Minister Yoav Gallant. “We saw examples of such missions in Shifa, and will see such missions in the Rafah area,” he added.

October 7 is portrayed as an act of frenzied violence, coming seemingly out of nowhere and unprovoked. In reality, the Al-Aqsa Flood had clear objectives and came out of a series of specific provocations and attacks by the Israeli state against the sacred Al-Aqsa site.
🟡 For a full analysis check out our new article here.
Tens of thousands of Palestinians defied violent attacks by Israeli forces to attend the last Friday prayers at the Al-Aqsa mosque in occupied Jerusalem during the holy month of Ramadan. Despite the heavy presence of approximately 3,600 Israeli forces across Jerusalem, the number of attending worshippers surpassed 100,000, according to figures published by occupation authorities.
Situated on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem’s Old City, the Al-Aqsa Mosque holds significant religious importance as Islam’s third most sacred mosque. However, scenes of violence during these gatherings have become an annual occurrence under Israeli occupation. This year, the atmosphere is further charged by the ongoing war of annihilation against Gaza.

In honor of Martin Luther King (MLK) Jr., on the day of his assassination, we remember his iconic speech at Stanford in 1967. MLK’s insightful analysis revealed that the white ruling class’ racism and exploitation provoked the frustrations of the Black community, in particular, to boil over into violent outbursts in several US cities. He understood that the root cause of these riots was the failure of the US establishment to address the demands of the Black community and poor people in general, famously dubbing the riots “the language of the unheard.”

On this day in 1968, Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated. Mainstream media continues to de-radicalize King, portraying him as a liberal icon and erasing his legacy as one of the most radical figures of the struggle for racial justice in the US. Hence, King is little known for his fierce condemnation of capitalism.

Indigenous communities in Ecuador are mobilizing against Canadian mining company Atico Mining Corp., which has begun gold mining operations that will damage the water supply for Quichua towns in the Andean region of Cotopaxi. Atico signed an $800 million deal with the neoliberal government of President Daniel Noboa at the beginning of March. Since then, the Confederation of Indigenous Nations of Ecuador (CONAIE) has demanded that the affected communities vote on the issue.
The government’s failure to consult with those affected has led to protests erupting in the region. Noboa’s right-wing government is currently engaged in a “tough on crime” propaganda campaign to address the crime wave in major cities. Now, it’s applying the same rhetoric to Indigenous protesters, with the military labeling these communities as ‘terrorists’ and describing them as” ‘organized groups.”

Palestinian prisoner and writer Walid Daqqa, who was suffering from cancer, has died in an Israeli prison. Daqqa was one of the most prominent and longest-held Palestinian prisoners in Israeli custody.
He was arrested in 1986 for killing an Israeli soldier and has remained in prison ever since. While in jail, he wrote several books, including a children’s story. In 1999, Daqqa also got married while behind bars. Along with his wife, Sana Salameh, he welcomed a daughter, Milad, in 2020, conceived after his sperm was smuggled out of prison.
Since October 7, at least 10 Palestinians have died in Israeli prisons. But a Haaretz investigation said that the number was actually at least 27.

Yoon, who has not only been pushing for increased militarization and confrontation with the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) in the north, is also responsible for several questionable policies further deepening economic disparities in the country, with soaring food prices unseen in decades.

Molotov cocktails rained down on riot police during another student protest at the National University demanding an urgent change of course by the administration. Over the past few months, the country has seen further and further escalating student-led riots with a particularly militant character in several cities.
The ongoing student protests center around a range of issues, including high costs, decaying campus infrastructure, and undemocratic governance. Following unanswered grievances, students at Bogotá's National University declared an “indefinite strike” earlier this week.
Colombia’s universities have historically been hotbeds of the country's rebellious periods, a tradition that has run through popular uprisings as well as armed conflict.
Unfulfilled promises by Colombia’s first left-wing president, Gustavo Petro, such as the release of political prisoners from the 2019 uprising or the dissolution of the notorious ESMAD police unit, continue to fuel tensions.
