Israeli attacks on Sunday killed four Palestinians and wounded six others, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry. Deaths were reported in Beit Hanoun and Rafah. A woman was shot dead with live ammunition. Heavy military activity was reported across Gaza. Al Jazeera reported artillery shelling and Israeli warships firing along the shores of Khan Yunis. Drones flew over the Strip throughout the day, adding to fears of further escalation.
Israel is pushing to extend the first phase of the ceasefire plan rather than engage in negotiations for a second phase. The second phase aims to finalize the prisoner exchange process while laying the groundwork for lasting peace in Gaza. A key condition is the withdrawal of Israeli soldiers, along with efforts to rebuild the devastated territory and establish long-term arrangements.
Today marks the 60th anniversary of one the largest bombing campaigns in world history, the US’ Operation Rolling Thunder in Vietnam. This three-and-a-half-year phase of Washington’s war on Vietnam involved the dropping of over a million tonnes of munitions and the deaths of at least 182,000 Vietnamese civilians.

Nicaragua has introduced a new "voluntary police" force, composed of social movement and union members. The initiative is described as a measure to defend the Sandinista government against potential coup attempts. For years, the country has faced destabilization efforts from the US-backed opposition.
The “voluntary police” was signed into law as part of a set of recent constitutional reforms. Many of the reforms decentralize state institutions and devolve power and government funding to local pro-Sandinista community and social movement organizations.

Just two years before China’s Nationalist government fled to the island of Taiwan after losing to the Communists in mainland China, Nationalist troops brutally massacred up to 30,000 people in Taiwan in the name of anti-communism. These troops acted under the direct orders of Chiang Kai-Shek. He would go on to rule the island with an iron fist for several decades. The February 28 Massacre marked the beginning of decades of White Terror in Taiwan.

"Subordination, never!" As US tariffs on Mexico and Canada face renewal tomorrow, President Claudia Sheinbaum made clear that she’ll stand firm against Washington's threats.
The tariffs in question, previously suspended as part of trade negotiations, are set to expire tomorrow, potentially reigniting economic tensions between the three nations. At the same time, the US has taken an increasingly aggressive posture by declaring certain Mexican cartels as terrorist organizations—a move that some see as a prelude to military intervention.

"Stop the ethnic cleansing" - Listen to Basel Adra, Palestinian journalist and activist, as he accepts the Oscar for Best Documentary for No Other Land.
The film, produced between 2019 and 2023, is the result of a collaboration between Israeli and Palestinian filmmakers. It follows activist Basel Adra as he documents Israeli colonial violence and the forced displacement and destruction of his hometown, Masafer Yatta.
After the directors' speech at the 2024 Berlinale, where they called for an end to arms sales to Israel and a ceasefire, German journalists and politicians accused the film of promoting antisemitic and anti-Israeli rhetoric.
In the Arab world, several boycott campaigns have been launched against the film, accusing it of promoting normalization. Critics point to the two Israeli directors, who do not regard Israel as a colonial entity and have allegedly fueled propaganda against the resistance following the October 7 operation.

Israel has blocked humanitarian aid to Gaza as ceasefire plan negotiations stall. Despite its obligations under the ceasefire agreement, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has ordered a halt to aid deliveries, leaving the entire Gaza Strip without desperately needed supplies.
The blockade comes during Ramadan, a time of fasting and communal gathering, when access to food and essential goods is even more critical. Hamas has condemned the move, calling it “a cheap act of blackmail, a war crime, and a blatant violation of the ceasefire agreement and prisoner exchange.” As talks over the ceasefire’s second phase fail to advance, the blockade fuels fears of further escalation and worsening humanitarian conditions.

Newly released Epstein documents reveal… nothing. Attorney General Pam Bondi framed the release of files about the infamous pedophile and sex trafficker as monumental. In reality they contained redacted sections and information already previously released.
The files were first given to conservative influencers in order to promote the administration before they were released to the public. Amongst the documents released were flight logs and names of people associated with Epstein. A list of 254 names in a document titled “MASSEUSES” was entirely redacted.
Figures like Bill Clinton and Prince Andrew visited Epstein’s island notorious for being a site of sexual abuse. Trump’s name appears seven times in the flight logs, and in 2002 he called Epstein a “terrific guy” who is “a lot of fun to be around.”
In 2019, Epstein was arrested and charged with sex trafficking of minors. He allegedly died by suicide while awaiting trial, though many are skeptical of such a series of events.
At least 11 people were killed and many more injured in explosions at an M23 rally in Bukavu, eastern DR Congo. The attack comes after the Rwanda-backed M23 rebels took hold of the city earlier this month.
The Rwanda-backed M23 rebels blamed the bombing on the Congolese government. Meanwhile, DR Congo President Félix Tshisekedi attributed the attack to unspecified “foreign” forces.
M23 also claimed that attackers were among the dead. However, rebels and officials gave conflicting reports on the number of attackers and victims.

Violent clashes continue during the 24-hour national strike in Athens, Greece. Hundreds of thousands flood the streets across the country, paralysing entire cities.
The strike reflects the mounting public anger after years of austerity. It takes place on the second anniversary of Greece’s deadliest train crash in 2023, when at least 57 people died in a head-on collision between two trains.
The vast majority of Greeks blame austerity measures for the failure of safety systems that led to the deadly crash. Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis’ right-wing government, re-elected after the disaster in 2023, has faced repeated criticism from victims’ relatives for refusing to launch a parliamentary inquiry into political responsibility.
