Clashes erupted last night in Bucharest between riot police and supporters of far-right candidate Călin Georgescu. This followed the decision by Romania's Central Election Bureau (BEC) to ban Georgescu’s presidential candidacy. He had won the recent election, but the vote was annulled due to alleged “Russian interference.”
Georgescu has been condemned by the EU, Western media, and Romania’s current centrist government for his pro-Russian stance on Ukraine and opposition to NATO expansion in Eastern Europe. His platform also includes Christian nationalism and extremely socially conservative policies.
He has denounced the BEC's decision as a threat to democracy, receiving support from figures such as JD Vance and Elon Musk. The election rerun is scheduled for May 4 of this year.

Israel cut off energy supplies and access to drinking water for half a million people in Gaza. Yesterday, Israel imposed an immediate ban on electricity sales to Gaza, crippling a desalination plant that supplies life-saving water.
This follows Israel's walling off of humanitarian aid, affecting over two million people. Hazem Qassam, Hamas' spokesman, slammed the decision as part of Israel's “starvation policy.” Furthermore, Israel continues to violate the ceasefire agreement, and its mediators have left for new talks in Doha, Qatar.
Human Rights Watch had already accused Israel of “acts of genocide” for blocking Palestinians' access to water. Pipelines are shut down, solar panels powering water pumps are destroyed, and the essential desalination and wastewater plants are inoperable.

After Gaza, now in Syria – the EU is backing ethnic cleansing and pogroms.
In its latest statements, the EU has effectively backed the pogroms carried out by Syria’s transitional government.
EU officials have blamed the recent escalation of violence against minorities in Syria on "pro-Assad forces"—a narrative echoed by Syria’s transitional government, led by former ISIS and al-Qaeda members.
In recent days, HTS security forces have launched brutal attacks, pogroms, and massacres against minority groups. According to sources on the ground, over 1,000 people have been killed—most of them civilians, including women and children.

On this day in 1954, Irish socialist and freedom fighter Bobby Sands was born. He gave his life for the struggle for Irish independence, leading a 66-day hunger strike that ultimately killed him.
At 18, Sands joined the Provisional Irish Republic Army (IRA). Arrested multiple times, he was sentenced to 14 years for firearms possession and imprisoned in the notorious Maze Prison, or “H-Block,” infamous for brutal treatment and torture.
Sands led the fight for political prisoner status, culminating in the hunger strike that made him and nine others global symbols of resistance. 41 days in, he was elected MP for Fermanagh and South Tyrone with over 30,000 votes, drawing worldwide attention.
Despite international pleas, including from the Pope, Sands died on May 5, 1981, at 27. His death sparked riots, and he remains a hero to Irish freedom fighters. His words, “Our revenge will be the laughter of our children,” still inspire the oppressed today.

Trump has backtracked and withdrawn most of the tariffs he had announced for Mexico and Canada. This comes after strong retaliatory tariffs from both countries and opposition from US capitalists concerned about the stock market decline.
Tariffs have now been lifted on all goods covered under the US-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), the trade deal signed by all three nations during Trump’s first term, meaning all major goods are now exempt.

What’s happening in Syria?
Since Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), led by former ISIS member Abu Mohammad al-Jolani, took power in parts of Syria, there have been ongoing sectarian attacks against minority groups, particularly Alawites. Local sources have informed red. media that the situation escalated significantly yesterday. Pogroms targeting Alawite communities were reported not only in Latakia but also in other Syrian cities like Homs. Clashes were reported also in Al Sweyda a predominantly Druze area.
The primary reason behind these events is the deeply sectarian ideology of HTS, whose members hold Sunni supremacist beliefs. Although Jolani is attempting to present himself as a moderate leader to Western audiences—primarily aiming to remove sanctions and attract investment—the core of his organization remains rooted in extremist groups such as Al-Qaeda and ISIS. This dual strategy creates severe contradictions within HTS and poses an existential threat to minorities like the Alawites.
Several pro-HTS and anti-Assad media outlets and journalists have portrayed yesterday’s events as an attempted coup by Assad loyalists within the military. This narrative seems designed to delegitimize genuine self-defense measures by minorities who are resisting sectarian violence and pogroms.
Meanwhile, despite Israel actively carrying out military operations against Syria, Jolani and HTS’s military forces remain predominantly focused on attacking minorities rather than addressing external threats.

Last week, Trump backtracked and agreed not to impose tariffs on all Mexican goods covered by the US-Mexico Commercial Agreement (USMCA), which accounts for approximately 90% of Mexico’s exports to the North. A firm stance from Mexico, combined with pressure from US capitalists, forced Trump’s reversal.

Al Jazeera, a soft power tool for the US and Qatar, keeps pushing Western imperialist narratives. Now it's justifying massacres by Syria’s transitional government—run by ex-ISIS and al-Qaeda—by blaming the victims as 'Assad supporters'.

The escalation of violence against minorities in Syria has sparked outrage among people who have called for a peaceful protest in Marjeh Square. Hundreds of people raised slogans calling for the rejection of sectarian violence and the cessation of the bloodshed. The protest was suppressed by clashes and gunfire fired by HTS security forces.
Meanwhile, the UN confirmed that entire families, including women and children, are being killed. Day by day, more shocking videos are emerging online documenting summary executions committed by HTS fighters.

The DR Congo government is offering $5 million for M23’s top leaders as the rebels push deeper into its territory. With Goma and Bukavu fallen, the group now advances toward Walikale, home to the only industrial mine still under government control. Losing Walikale would mean not just the loss of a key revenue source, but also control over major supply routes that run through the region.
As M23 gains ground, the DRC’s military is facing significant challenges. Group Kabido, once a pro-government militia, has defected to M23, further weakening Kinshasa’s position.
As the frontlines shift, civilians bear the brunt of the conflict. Since January 2025, more than 7,000 have been killed, over 100,000 displaced. Hospitals and schools have been attacked, forcing closures, while insecurity spreads. The UN accuses Rwanda of backing M23, fueling tensions and adding another layer of instability to the war.

This Women’s History Month, listen to this powerful speech by a Mexican mother whose daughter, María del Jesús, was murdered in her own apartment.
In 2016, María was a 19-year-old engineering student at Mexico City’s National Polytechnic Institute (IPN). After going out to party with classmates and a teacher, they claimed she “went crazy” and “committed suicide.”
A criminal investigation later reported that her teacher and classmate forcefully brought her to her fifth-floor apartment. They unsuccessfully tried to sexually abuse her and, as she struggled and screamed for help, threw her out of the window. María went into a coma and suffered head and leg fractures. She would die eight days later. Her killers have still not been brought to justice to this day.
Mexico suffers one of the highest rates of femicide (the killing of women and girls because of their gender) globally, exacerbated by textile factories that proliferate because of US policies.

🟡NEW: UK lifts sanctions on Syria amid escalating sectarian violence.
The British government has lifted sanctions on 24 entities in Syria, becoming the first nation to unfreeze all assets of Syria’s Central Bank. The decision comes as Syria faces a surge in sectarian violence against minority groups, particularly Alawites.
In a recent escalation, videos and photos have emerged showing HTS-affiliated security forces carrying out brutal attacks, pogroms, and massacres against minorities. Despite these atrocities, Western powers continue to whitewash the new Syrian transitional government, led by a former ISIS member, presenting it as an ally.
A UK government spokesperson defended the move, stating: “This approach underscores our commitment to helping the people of Syria rebuild their country and economy, including through support for a Syrian-led and Syrian-owned political transition process.”
Military vehicles burn as protests rage against militarization in the rural Colombian region of El Plateado.
Government forces have ramped up counterinsurgency operations in the province of Cauca, hunting for FARC guerrilla dissidents, with the rural population caught in the crossfire.
For the local population, the military offensive feels more like an occupation. Local communities face forced displacement and harassment from soldiers who treat them as suspected guerrilla sympathizers.
The invading soldiers are often the only expression of the state in these rural regions. The ousted guerrilla forces were the de facto authority in El Plateado.
On the outskirts of El Plateado, the Carlos Patiño Front, under the command of Iván Mordisco, remains active despite being pushed out of central areas in previous government offensives.
This violent escalation follows the collapse of negotiations between multiple political-military groups and the government under President Gustavo Petro.
