Milei’s libertarian government unleashed brutal police repression to stop anti-austerity protesters from reaching Congress. Yesterday, organized football fans joined elderly retirees for their weekly protest against Javier Milei’s cuts to pensions, one of the largest mobilizations yet against austerity in the country.

At least 150 protesters were arrested, with the far-right Interior Minister, Patricia Bullrich, announcing that detainees will face up to 20 years in prison. The government is using anti-mafia laws to charge opposition protesters, as Bullrich considers the leftist football fan groups to be criminal organizations.

Today is the anniversary of the Grenada Revolution. Listen to Maurice Bishop, the Grenadian socialist leader, explain why the US saw the Grenadian Revolution as a threat.

The vast majority of Grenada’s population is of African descent, and the country’s official language is English, allowing the revolutionary spirit to be spread more easily to the US.

Under Bishop’s premiership, the Grenadian government rolled out free public healthcare, reduced illiteracy, and fought for workers’ and women’s rights while combating imperialism and the apartheid regime in South Africa.

The UK’s Labour government has announced plans to cut £5 billion from disability benefits to boost spending on war and rearmament.

The previous Conservative government had already made deep cuts to disability benefits—reductions that Labour strongly opposed while in opposition. Now, in power, Labour is making further cuts to Personal Independence Payments, which support people with long-term health conditions and disabilities. Disability charities warn that these changes could push 700,000 disabled households into poverty.

Rather than investing in social services, these austerity measures are being used to finance a major expansion of Europe’s military spending and rearmament.

Phila Portia Ndwandwe is one of many female fighters in the South African anti-apartheid struggle who had been left out of the mainstream narrative. On March 12, 1997, Ndwandwe’s skeleton was unearthed in a field in KwaZulu-Natal. Here’s her story.

In 1988, apartheid security forces abducted Ndawndwe, torturing her in hopes of turning her into an informant. However, when Ndwandwe refused to betray her comrades, her captors shot her in the head and buried her in an unmarked grave.

It wasn’t until almost a decade later, until after the fall of apartheid, that her whereabouts were located. However, a compromise had been reached: perpetrators of political killings under apartheid would receive amnesty in return for full disclosure of their activities. Thus, Ndwandwe’s killers were granted amnesty, leaving the criminals unpunished.

🟡 NEW: Qatar allegedly funded Netanyahu's aides with hundreds of thousands of dollars.

An Israeli investigation is probing whether six-figure sums were funneled from Qatar to Prime Minister Netanyahu’s aides. The focus is on suspicions that advisers, including Eli Feldstein, Jonatan Urich, and Yisrael Einhorn, received funds to improve Qatar’s image in Israel. According to Israeli Channel 13, the funds were allegedly transferred indirectly through various intermediaries.

Today, an Israeli court imposed a 30-day gag order, prohibiting the publication of any details related to the investigation, including information on suspects or findings, across all media platforms.

This is not the first time Doha has funded Israel. Qatar has reportedly provided over $100 million to Netanyahu and his Likud Party to promote its policies. Trade relations between Qatar and Israel have continued, with Qatari gas exports to Israel persisting during the genocide.

Clashes erupted last night in Bucharest between riot police and supporters of far-right candidate Călin Georgescu. This followed the decision by Romania's Central Election Bureau (BEC) to ban Georgescu’s presidential candidacy. He had won the recent election, but the vote was annulled due to alleged “Russian interference.”

Georgescu has been condemned by the EU, Western media, and Romania’s current centrist government for his pro-Russian stance on Ukraine and opposition to NATO expansion in Eastern Europe. His platform also includes Christian nationalism and extremely socially conservative policies.

He has denounced the BEC's decision as a threat to democracy, receiving support from figures such as JD Vance and Elon Musk. The election rerun is scheduled for May 4 of this year.

Israel cut off energy supplies and access to drinking water for half a million people in Gaza. Yesterday, Israel imposed an immediate ban on electricity sales to Gaza, crippling a desalination plant that supplies life-saving water.

This follows Israel's walling off of humanitarian aid, affecting over two million people. Hazem Qassam, Hamas' spokesman, slammed the decision as part of Israel's “starvation policy.” Furthermore, Israel continues to violate the ceasefire agreement, and its mediators have left for new talks in Doha, Qatar.

Human Rights Watch had already accused Israel of “acts of genocide” for blocking Palestinians' access to water. Pipelines are shut down, solar panels powering water pumps are destroyed, and the essential desalination and wastewater plants are inoperable.

🟡 NEW: Qatar will supply gas to Syria following US approval.

According to Reuters, Qatar is set to begin supplying Syria with gas via Jordan to help boost the country’s limited power supply. Syria will be one of the key transit countries in the Qatar-Türkiye Natural Gas Pipeline project, along with Jordan and Saudi Arabia.

The $10 billion pipeline project, originally proposed in 2009, was designed to transport Qatar’s vast natural gas reserves to European markets via Türkiye. However, the proposed route through Syria was never realized at the time due to regional instability and the former Syrian government’s opposition to the project. The realisation of the pipeline, backed by the US and its European and Gulf allies, would have weaken Europe’s dependence on Russia for its energy.

The US “has the right to revoke a green card or visa for individuals who oppose US foreign policy.” The new statement made by Karoline Leavitt, the White House Press Secretary, reinforces the criminalization of international students on US campuses. According to Leavitt, more students who are part of alleged "pro-Hamas" mobilizations will be arrested by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

Mahmoud Khalil, a recently graduated student from Columbia University, was arrested by the DHS on March 8. He is currently held in a detention facility, criminalized for his active role in student protests on US campuses.

Although Mauritius gained independence from the UK on this day in 1968, parts of the island nation are still under occupation.

In the late 1960s, thousands of locals were forced to leave their homes by the US and the UK to make way for the construction of a US military base. Indigenous people later testified before the ICJ that US agents threatened residents who refused to leave.

Human rights organizations and victims of the displacement are demanding reparations from the US and the UK. But what exactly makes the island state so interesting for imperialist interests? Read on to find out.

🟡 BREAKING: Four Lebanese prisoners have been released by Israel as part of ongoing negotiations between the two countries.

The Lebanese government confirmed the arrival of the four prisoners, transported by the Red Cross. They had been abducted by the Israeli army from Lebanon between January and February.

Following US pressure, Israel and Lebanon have agreed to open negotiations to reach a broader agreement. The deal will address three key issues: the land border disputes between Israel and Lebanon, the fate of Lebanese prisoners held by Israel, and the conditions for Israel’s withdrawal from five outposts in southern Lebanon.

Tensions over border demarcation have further escalated after Israel declared its intention to maintain control over five additional strategic locations in southern Lebanon. Israel’s decision reportedly violated the terms of the November 27, 2024, ceasefire agreement.

🟡 NEW: UNICEF has warned that 90% of people in the Gaza Strip have no access to safe drinking water.

The water crisis in Gaza has reached a critical point. Only one in ten people can currently access safe water, according to UNICEF. UN agencies estimate that 1.8 million people—more than half of them children—are in urgent need of water, sanitation, and hygiene assistance. The situation has worsened following Israel's decision to cut off electricity to the Strip, which has severely disrupted vital water desalination systems.

According to UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini, the situation in Gaza mirrors that of October 2023. Israel is weaponizing humanitarian aid, while its ceasefire violations persist.

Mexicans rallied yesterday to celebrate their president’s victory against Trump’s tariffs. President Claudia Sheinbaum addressed a crowd of 35,000 in the capital, declaring that no foreign hegemony will violate the country’s sovereignty.

Last week, Trump backtracked and agreed not to impose tariffs on all Mexican goods covered by the US-Mexico Commercial Agreement (USMCA), which accounts for approximately 90% of Mexico’s exports to the North. A firm stance from Mexico, combined with pressure from US capitalists, forced Trump’s reversal.
