Venezuela’s government has launched a campaign demanding the return of two-year-old Maikelys Espinoza Bernal, who remains in US custody after both her parents were deported without her.
Her parents were accused of being “gang members” without any evidence or criminal charges. Her mother was deported to Venezuela, while her father, was sent to El Salvador and imprisoned indefinitely without charge in the notorious CECOT prison.
The Venezuelan government’s campaign, using the hashtag #FreeMaikelyEspinoza, denounces the forced separation as a violation of human rights and international norms. President Maduro has condemned Trump’s policy of deporting people to El Salvador as a crime against humanity, calling CECOT a modern-day concentration camp.
President Maduro has promised to rescue the Venezuelans who are being held in concentration camps in El Salvador and the US. The remarks were made at yesterday’s May Day rally, in which he brought on stage the mother of Maikelys Espinoza.
“She suffers from malnutrition due to the blockade of Gaza.” People in Gaza are starving as Israel’s blockade of humanitarian aid surpasses 60 days.
Israel’s blockade on food, medicine, and other essential supplies is being described as “the harshest phase of the war so far.” While trucks carrying humanitarian aid remain blocked at the borders, the number of people at risk of dying from malnutrition continues to rise.
The UN's World Food Programme (WFP) announced last week that its food stocks in Gaza have been fully depleted after delivering the last of its supplies to local kitchens. Over 400,000 people in Gaza depend on WFP aid. Israel is not only killing people in Gaza through bombs, but also by imposing a blockade that leads to deaths from a lack of medicine and food.

The attack occurred shortly after midnight, when drone strikes hit the ship’s bow, igniting a fire and breaching the hull. Reports suggest the drones deliberately targeted the vessel’s generator, disabling critical systems. The ship remains stranded in international waters after sending out an SOS distress signal. The latest contact, in the early hours of May 2nd, confirmed drones were still circling overhead.
Activists have called for immediate intervention, urging the Maltese government to act. On board are thirty international human rights defenders, now at risk of the ship sinking. So far, only Cyprus has responded to the SOS signal, but its vessel lacked the necessary electrical support.
The Freedom Flotilla set out to challenge Israel’s siege on Gaza and deliver vital humanitarian aid. Its mission was kept confidential to prevent Israeli sabotage.

Police charged crowds across Paris this May Day, using tear gas, mass arrests, and batons to break up the march. Protesters also confronted the Socialist Party, tearing down its stand and denouncing its role in labor repression.
Joining the traditional workers’ mobilization was a growing protest against state Islamophobia. Just days earlier, Aboubakar Cissé, a 22-year-old Malian man, was stabbed to death while praying in a mosque. His killer filmed the attack, shouting anti-Muslim slurs—yet the state prosecutor refused to clearly label the murder as Islamophobic, suggesting other possible motives despite the evidence.

Happy Birthday to the mastermind behind over a century of communist struggle, Karl Marx! Although Marx died in 1883, he left behind a legacy that sparked revolutions worldwide and remains the sharpest tool for the fight for liberation today: Marxism.
From the Soviet Union to China, through Africa to Latin America, across all continents, Marxism turned oppressive conditions upside down. Friedrich Engels, his closest comrade, once said of him: “Fighting was his element. And he fought with a passion, a tenacity, and a success such as few could rival.”
We’ve selected some of our favorite quotes from Marx’s works that are more relevant than ever. What are your favorites?

US intensifies further attacks against Yemen. Newly released footage from US Central Command (CENTCOM) shows support missions for US aircraft carriers in the Red Sea.
CENTCOM stated it has carried out more than 800 airstrikes against Yemen’s Ansarallah since mid-March. The US is acting in the interest of toppling the Ansarallah government, which predominantly governs Yemen.
Ansarallah is part of the Axis of Resistance in West Asia and is engaged, in solidarity with Palestine, in a low-intensity war with the Israeli occupation. Despite heavy US-led attacks, Yemen has not deviated from its political course.

Israel has bombed an area near the presidential palace in Damascus. According to Israeli statements, the strike is a warning message to Ahmad al-Sharaa following the deadly clashes with the Druze community.
Israeli PM Netanyahu stated that he "will not allow forces south of Damascus or any threat to the Druze community." Israel aims to exploit sectarian tensions to fragment Syria and reinforce its occupation.
Deadly clashes between Syrian Druze community and pro-government forces have left several people dead, while open calls for sectarian violence are increasing. Videos circulating online document brutality, insults, and humiliation directed at the Druze, with critics drawing parallels to the targeting of the Alawite community. On Wednesday, an agreement was reached between Druze leaders and state officials, involving the surrender of weapons by the Druze community.
During the Syrian war, the Nusra Front — now known as HTS — received backing from Israel. Learn more about their longstanding ties here.

Far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party is now officially designated as an extremist organization. The first time in modern German history that a nationally represented parliamentary party has received this label.
The decision was announced today by the German Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution. It follows extensive evidence that the AfD promotes ethnonationalist policies, seeks to exclude immigrants and Muslims from equal rights, and undermines core democratic principles.
While the classification escalates the political stakes, it does not ban the party—despite growing calls to do so. For many, the move comes too late: the AfD has already embedded itself in state institutions and normalized far-right politics across Germany.
In 2024, an investigation revealed that over 100 far-right extremists, including neo-Nazis, were hired as parliamentary staff by AfD MPs. These appointments embedded fascist networks in the German state funded by the public. Read that investigation here.
