Evo Morales will likely be arrested on Thursday if his plan to march on La Paz goes ahead. The Indigenous leader is launching a long mobilization from his home region to the capital to register his candidacy for the presidential elections this August.
The former president faces an arrest warrant issued by the government of Luis Arce, in the context of an internal factional struggle within the left over who will be the presidential candidate for the Movement Towards Socialism (MAS) party. Morales has remained in his home region of the Trópico of Cochabamba for months, surrounded by large numbers of union members who camp around his residence 24 hours a day to prevent police from executing the warrant.
This will be the first time Morales has left the region since the warrant was issued. The government has stated it will carry out the arrest once he leaves the Trópico. Morales will be marching with thousands of supporters, who say they will confront security forces if they attempt to arrest their leader.
From a prison cell in The Hague, Rodrigo Duterte has been re-elected mayor of Davao, the southern city he ruled for decades before becoming president of the Philippines.
The former head of state remains politically dominant despite facing international prosecution over a drug war that killed thousands, mostly in working-class communities. A result of entrenched impunity and local power structures still intact.
Meanwhile, his political dynasty has tightened its hold on Davao: his youngest son, Sebastian, won the vice-mayoral race; his eldest son, Paolo, retained his congressional seat; and two grandsons were elected as 2nd district congressman and 1st district councilor, respectively.
Impeached in February but still vice president, Sara Duterte remains central to the family’s ambitions as she awaits trial. The Duterte family now holds power across Davao City’s executive branch and both local and national legislative offices.
For a detailed account of his arrest and ICC charges, see the full report here.
“They killed him in his hospital bed.” Israel assassinated Hassan Elsalih, a prominent Palestinian journalist, while he was receiving treatment at Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis. Despite being directly targeted by Israeli bombings, Palestinian journalists remain committed to documenting the ongoing genocide.
Last month, Hassan survived an Israeli strike that targeted journalists in a press tent located next to the hospital. That attack killed at least two journalists, who were burned alive in front of the cameras. Hassan, injured in that same strike, was being treated in the hospital’s burns unit when an Israeli suicide drone deliberately killed him, destroying part of the medical facility.
Since October 2023, Israel has killed 215 journalists. The systematic targeting of media professionals has made Palestine the most dangerous country in the world for journalists. Reporters Without Borders described the scale of the killings as “an unprecedented bloodbath.”

“It’s not terrorism. It’s imperialism.” – Burkina Faso’s President Ibrahim Traoré slammed French media for waging an ideological war to sustain colonial domination. Propaganda, he argued, like arms, is part of the Western arsenal—used to manufacture war and justify foreign control.
Traoré points to foreign instructors, drone specialists, and explosives teams in mining zones. “Their objective is to keep us in a state of permanent war, stop development, and continue to exploit our resources.”
His remarks come amid a regional rupture in the postcolonial order. Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger have expelled French forces, withdrawn from ECOWAS, and formed the Alliance of Sahel States (AES)—a bloc built on military cooperation and rejection of French influence.

The release of US-Israeli captive Edan Alexander follows direct talks between Hamas and the US. His release is part of a broader deal to secure a ceasefire and allow humanitarian aid into Gaza. In exchange for Alexander, no Palestinian prisoners will be freed; instead, the US has committed to supporting efforts toward a ceasefire.
Netanyahu, for his part, has stated that he is not committed to any ceasefire, leaving open the possibility of escalating actions in Gaza aimed at its complete occupation—an operation that Trump has described as “a wasted effort.”
Tomorrow, Trump will arrive in Saudi Arabia for his first major international trip and visit Qatar and the UAE. Trump’s visit aims to solidify US regional interests through geopolitical gestures, economic agreements, and arms deals. Recently, Reuters reported that the US will remove the recognition of Israel as a precondition for civil nuclear talks with Saudi Arabia.
On the other hand, Saudi Arabia had demanded Palestinian state recognition to engage in the negotiations on the Trump-backed Abraham Accords. Gulf and Israeli sources are currently debating a potential US statement on recognizing a Palestinian state to advance normalization agreements between Arab states and Israel.
The Trump-Netanyahu dispute stems from Israel’s pressure on the US to implement its regional terms. This includes Israeli pressure for a joint attack on Iran, which contributed to the dismissal of former US National Security Advisor Waltz.
The US has opted to engage in indirect talks with Iran over a new nuclear agreement, with the fourth round of negotiations taking place yesterday in Oman. The US continues to maintain a contradictory stance on Iran’s uranium enrichment rights, angering Netanyahu.
Despite this, Trump remains committed to being the largest supplier of arms to Israel, backing his “Riviera of the Middle East” plan for Gaza and ensuring Israel remains the dominant US-backed military and political power in the region.
Beyond Iran and Gaza, US-Israel disagreements also extended to Yemen. The ceasefire in Yemen, requested by the US and mediated by Oman, ended without addressing attacks on Israel, focusing instead on securing US vessels in the Red Sea.
Israel, caught off guard by the outcome, vowed to continue its campaign against Yemen independently. Ansarallah reaffirmed its support for Gaza and underscored the US failure to halt resistance operations against Israel.
After 43 years of guerrilla war, the Kurdish national liberation group PKK says it’s laying down arms, declaring that conditions for armed struggle no longer exist. Many welcome the move, but some Kurds are critical, saying the root causes behind the PKK’s creation still remain. Here's where it all began.

Nazi symbols filled the streets of Paris as a thousand masked neo-fascists marched freely under police protection. Antifascists were blocked, beaten, and banned. The event, organized by the far-right “Comité du 9 Mai,” was authorized by a court. Participants chanted slogans like “Europe, youth, revolution” beneath Celtic cross banners and to the beat of drums styled after Hitler Youth.
The march was permitted despite France’s ban on public masking and prohibition of Nazi symbols. Many participants covered their faces and displayed swastika tattoos or fascist insignia without consequence. Police made no serious interventions. Meanwhile, a court upheld the ban on the antifascist counter-demonstration, justifying it on grounds of “ideological antagonism.”

Ahmad al-Sharaa, the self-proclaimed president of Syria and former Al-Qaeda member, is enabling the partition of Syria among Qatar, Israel, Türkiye, and the US.
Syria’s Finance Ministry announced that Qatar will fund the country’s public sector after receiving US approval. Since the Syrian war began, Qatar has supported armed groups aiming to topple the former Assad government.
Doha is one of the US’s closest allies in the region, hosting the largest American military base used for US military interventions across the Middle East. Qatar follows US directives when allocating monetary grants. Unlike Lebanon, Doha was allowed to finance Syria’s economy by covering its World Bank debt, enabling the agency to resume operations.
According to Israeli sources, Türkiye and Israel are holding new talks in Azerbaijan to divide their interests in Syria. While the negotiation terms remain unchanged, Israeli officials made two demands: no military forces near the Golan Heights and no strategic weapons that could threaten the Israeli occupation in Syria. Al-Sharaa confirmed indirect talks with the Israeli government during his first European visit. In contrast, Israeli sources contradicted him, reporting that direct talks were held between Israeli and Syrian officials in both the Israeli-occupied territories and the UAE.
Moreover, Al-Sharaa is seeking US support to propose a “Marshall Plan–style reconstruction” to US President Trump. The goal is to secure significant US investment projects in Syria, prioritizing them over companies from China and other powers. Through Saudi mediation, Al-Sharaa is also willing to meet Trump during his visits to Gulf countries.

Ex-Red Army Faction guerrilla appears in court draped in a keffiyeh, shows into German TV cameras the written demands “Stop the displacement, bombing, and starvation” in Palestine.
The defendant, Daniela Klette, spent over 30 years underground, evading German authorities who listed her as a top suspect for alleged ties to the leftist armed RAF.
She was arrested in 2024—one of the last three fugitives from the group, which officially disbanded in 1998.
The RAF urban guerrilla group emerged from the 1968 student movement and remained active until 1998.
Since her arrest, Klette has re-emerged as a political voice from behind bars—issuing statements, commentary, and messages for the first time in decades.

Did you know France massacred African soldiers in 1944 after they helped them fight in World War II? Today marks 80 years since the defeat of fascism in Nazi Germany. Here’s another colonial chapter France still hasn’t reckoned with.
They were known as Tirailleurs Sénégalais—West African soldiers conscripted from across the French colonies to fight and die for an empire that never saw them as equals. Some survived Nazi prison camps, only to be gunned down by the French army when they got home. They demanded the wages France had promised them. Instead, the military responded with gunfire.
The massacre took place at Thiaroye, near Dakar. French troops killed hundreds of unarmed soldiers.
“It was foreseen,” said Senegal’s Director of National Heritage Oumar Badiane, “because these soldiers were becoming a threat to French authority in Africa. They had discovered that the myth of the colonizer had collapsed.”

May 8 is the day several European countries celebrate their liberation from Nazi occupation and the defeat of fascism. Even though most of Eastern and Central Europe was liberated by Soviet troops, lies, myths, and misconceptions about the Red Army remain prevalent, especially in the West. What is less known, however, is that many of those myths stem from Nazi and anti-communist propaganda. Here are some of the most common myths debunked.

The Palestinian Authority is turning its guns on Palestinians while Israel carries out a genocide in Gaza and annexes the West Bank.
Today, Palestinian Authority (PA) forces killed two Palestinians: Rami Al-Zahran in Nablus and Faisal Saba'a in Jenin. Al-Zahran was wanted by the Israeli military for allegedly being part of a resistance group, while Saba'a was shot dead during a raid by PA officers.
The PA, mirroring the tactics of the Israeli occupation, continues to carry out arrests, raids, and extrajudicial killings—deepening the repression of the Palestinian people.

Palestinian Authority (PA) forces assassinated Rami Al-Zahran, a Palestinian man wanted by Israel, in the Al-Far'a refugee camp, south of Tubas. According to local sources, several PA officers opened fire on his vehicle, killing him on the spot.
Israeli authorities had accused Al-Zahran of being involved with a resistance group operating in the occupied West Bank. The PA operation also targeted his brother, Yazan, who is likewise wanted by Israel and survived the attack. In an official statement, the PA described the killing of Al-Zahran as an act of “self-defence.”
The killing has intensified criticism of the PA’s ongoing security coordination with Israel. Despite the genocidal war in Gaza and the Israeli military operation “Iron Wall” in the West Bank, the PA continues to carry out arrests, armed raids, and extrajudicial killings. These practices not only resemble those of the Israeli occupation but also, according to critics, constitute a second layer of repression against the Palestinian people.
“They handcuffed a child — then shot him.” UK Special Forces veterans have broken years of silence to expose a pattern of war crimes by British elite troops in Afghanistan and Iraq. They describe detainees executed in cold blood, children murdered in their sleep, and wounded civilians finished off at close range — as revealed in a BBC Panorama investigation.
Killings became “routine,” veterans say. Bodies were staged with planted weapons. Reports were falsified to avoid military police. Some operators tracked kills like trophies — one allegedly slit a man’s throat just to “blood his knife.”
Commanders knew about the killings. A former Afghan official says President Karzai personally warned Prime Minister David Cameron — repeatedly. The UK government denies specific knowledge. No one has been held accountable.

🟡 BREAKING: Palestinian resistance forces have released the US-Israeli captive Edan Alexander. Alexander is the only US living citizen among the 21 known to be alive. His release has been described by the US, Qatar and Egypt as a "goodwill effort" towards ceasefire negotiations.
Khalil al-Hayya, Head of Hamas in Gaza, announced the release of Alexander as part of “measures aimed at halting the aggression, reopening border crossings, and facilitating the entry of humanitarian aid and relief to our people in the Gaza Strip”.
Alexander is the first captive to be freed by the Palestinian resistance since Israel broke the ceasefire in March 2025. Israel has agreed to a temporary ceasefire starting at 12 a.m. local time to ensure a safe corridor for his release, but has refused to commit to any other ceasefire terms. According to Israeli sources, following his release, Alexander will travel to Qatar to meet with Trump and the Emir of Qatar.

The deal follows weekend talks initiated by the US, which has been forced to back down as Trump's trade war caused its own markets to tank.

🟡 BREAKING: The Kurdish national liberation group PKK gives up its armed struggle and says it will dissolve. The group announced the decision after it had been approved at a recent congress. This follows a call by jailed PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan to lay down arms.
The PKK’s decision has been widely welcomed. However, it has also drawn criticism. Some argue that democratic rights in Turkey have worsened in recent years. They say the root causes that led to the PKK’s formation remain.
Critics also suggest the Kurdish movement is responding to recent developments in the Middle East. They claim the movement is aligning itself with regional and imperialist powers, taking on a new role in ongoing efforts to redesign the Middle East within the framework of the so-called “Greater Middle East Project.”

Over 60,000 malnourished children in South Sudan have gone without aid for nearly a month. Fighting has made humanitarian deliveries to Upper Nile State impossible. UNICEF and the World Food Programme warn that nutrition supplies will run out by the end of May, jeopardizing treatment programs.
In mid-April, barges carrying 1,000 metric tonnes of aid were forced to turn back due to insecurity. The agencies say they’ve withheld supplies from health centers to avoid looting.
Without urgent access, mass hunger is imminent. Civilians—especially the poor—are being starved as rival armed factions fight to control trade routes and South Sudan’s natural wealth—especially oil and gold.
Meanwhile, the International Monetary Fund has, over recent years, imposed austerity through loans demanding currency liberalization and subsidy cuts. These reforms have weakened state capacity, driven inequality, and left people more exposed to crisis—deepening dependency without addressing the structural roots of war.
Dozens of civilians are dead, cities are bombed, and two nuclear-armed states are trading attacks as nationalist war drums beat louder.
Yesterday, India accused Pakistan of targeting military bases in Jammu and Punjab—allegations Pakistan denied. In response, Pakistan’s military reported Indian drone strikes on Rawalpindi, Lahore, and Karachi, with multiple civilian casualties. These numbers have not been independently confirmed.
Artillery and drone fire intensified across the Line of Control, displacing residents in both Indian- and Pakistani-occupied Kashmir. “Almost 70 percent of people in the city have left,” said a resident of Poonch.
In a sweeping censorship drive, India has blocked more than 8,000 social media accounts—including those of journalists and human rights groups.
Meanwhile, in Pakistan’s Balochistan province, the Baloch Liberation Army claimed attacks on military posts in Dera Bugti, describing them as part of an ongoing armed struggle against Pakistani control.

On this day in 1976, revolutionary journalist, author, and communist Ulrike Meinhof died. She went on to become one of the most prominent figures of the radical West German ’68 movement.
She was a well-known journalist in progressive and intellectual circles in her hometown of Hamburg. The legacy of the Nazi era marked the youth of her generation, as young people often literally sat with Nazi relatives at the same kitchen table.
Meinhof gained international attention as one of the founders of the communist guerrilla organization Red Army Faction (RAF), to which she contributed as an author influenced by Che Guevara, Vladimir Lenin, and Mao Zedong.
After being captured by West German authorities, Meinhof died in solitary confinement at the age of 42. Although the official verdict was suicide, many did not accept this explanation, suspecting that she and her comrades had been murdered.

🟡 BREAKING: Berlin police have banned the distribution of the Marxist newspaper junge Welt on May 8—Victory Day—at the Soviet War Memorial and Red Army cemetery in Treptow. The trigger is a front page headlined “Hitler broken,” showing a red flag with a hammer and sickle, says junge Welt.
Nick Brauns, editor-in-chief of junge Welt, called it a clear case of censorship: “It’s an attack on press freedom. A police decree banning Soviet symbols is now being used to keep junge Welt away from the memorial honoring the Red Army’s victory over Nazi fascism.”
Earlier this morning, the Berlin police announced the display of Soviet symbols on May 8, the day marking the defeat over fascism in 1945.

🟡 NEW: Berlin police banned the display of Soviet symbols on May 8, the day marking the defeat over fascism in 1945. Explicitly banned are the display of USSR flags and WWII Red Army songs, which called for the fight against Nazi Germany. In doing so, Germany censors the representation of those who, on this day in 1945, officially defeated Nazi Germany in Berlin. The Berlin police imposed similar bans on May 8 in recent years, since the beginning of the Ukraine war.
