red. media is closing, this is why…
For months, a coordinated campaign has been waged against red.media — led by an unholy
alliance of German media outlets, journalists, union representatives,
and NGOs, some of which were even founded or directly funded by the
German and Israeli states.
Amid escalating repression and direct
threats to the safety of our team — including threats to their lives —
red.media, a project of Istanbul-based AFA Medya A.Ş., can no longer
continue operating.

On May 15, 1972, the US handed control of Okinawa over to Japan after having occupied the island for almost three decades. However, even over half a century after its “reversion,” the Western Pacific island continues to host the bulk of US bases in the country, despite its stated hope of becoming “a peaceful island free of military bases” upon its “return” to Japanese rule. Read on to find out how the US ruined Okinawa.

Argentina’s police brutally repressed a protest led by retired workers who marched yesterday against hunger-level pensions devalued by hyperinflation under the ultraneoliberal government.
The mobilization is a weekly event that began last year when President Javier Milei passed a law freezing the state pension, despite inflation reaching over 200% at the time. Many retired workers are now unable to feed themselves and rely on working-age family members whose salaries have also been devalued by inflation.

Today marks the anniversary of the 1970 liberation of imprisoned communist Andreas Baader by journalists Ulrike Meinhof, Gudrun Ensslin, and others. This event led to the formation of the Red Army Faction (RAF), a Marxist urban guerrilla group that engaged in armed struggle against the West German state for nearly 30 years.

Evo Morales will likely be arrested on Thursday if his plan to march on La Paz goes ahead. The Indigenous leader is launching a long mobilization from his home region to the capital to register his candidacy for the presidential elections this August.
The former president faces an arrest warrant issued by the government of Luis Arce, in the context of an internal factional struggle within the left over who will be the presidential candidate for the Movement Towards Socialism (MAS) party. Morales has remained in his home region of the Trópico of Cochabamba for months, surrounded by large numbers of union members who camp around his residence 24 hours a day to prevent police from executing the warrant.
This will be the first time Morales has left the region since the warrant was issued. The government has stated it will carry out the arrest once he leaves the Trópico. Morales will be marching with thousands of supporters, who say they will confront security forces if they attempt to arrest their leader.
From a prison cell in The Hague, Rodrigo Duterte has been re-elected mayor of Davao, the southern city he ruled for decades before becoming president of the Philippines.
The former head of state remains politically dominant despite facing international prosecution over a drug war that killed thousands, mostly in working-class communities. A result of entrenched impunity and local power structures still intact.
Meanwhile, his political dynasty has tightened its hold on Davao: his youngest son, Sebastian, won the vice-mayoral race; his eldest son, Paolo, retained his congressional seat; and two grandsons were elected as 2nd district congressman and 1st district councilor, respectively.
Impeached in February but still vice president, Sara Duterte remains central to the family’s ambitions as she awaits trial. The Duterte family now holds power across Davao City’s executive branch and both local and national legislative offices.

"The European Union sanctioned me and my media outlet red. media for covering Palestine protests in Germany. It’s part of Europe’s growing authoritarianism and militarism, cloaked in language of fighting disinformation and defending democracy."
The EU has created a model of repression that is rapidly expanding. Today it targets Palestine solidarity journalism. Tomorrow it could be
reporters covering mass strikes, climate uprisings, or anti-austerity protests.
Unless we resist it now, we risk waking up in a Europe where dissent is not just marginalized, but subject to the kind of repression we have until now only associated with the most ruthless dictatorships.

Police violently attack pro-Palestine protesters again in Berlin, beating and arresting demonstrators on Nakba Day. The march, banned by authorities, marked 77 years of Palestinian dispossession and denounced Germany’s complicity in Israel’s genocide on Gaza.

Today marks Nakba Day, the day Israel’s ruthless campaign of colonization began, encompassing the erasure of everything Palestinian, including heritage and history.
While mainstream media wants you to believe that Israel’s war of extermination began on October 7, it has actually been ongoing ever since Israeli settlers arrived on the shores of Palestine in the 1940s. Welcomed by Palestinians, the settlers began replacing native Palestinian place names, from the name of the country itself down to every single city and small village.
Moreover, what started in 1948, continues to this day. With Israel’s latest invasion of Gaza, calls for resettling the enclave have become increasingly popular, and with that, the continued renaming of place names in an attempt to erase Palestine.

The Palestinian Authority is turning its guns on Palestinians while Israel carries out a genocide in Gaza and annexes the West Bank.
Today, Palestinian Authority (PA) forces killed two Palestinians: Rami Al-Zahran in Nablus and Faisal Saba'a in Jenin. Al-Zahran was wanted by the Israeli military for allegedly being part of a resistance group, while Saba'a was shot dead during a raid by PA officers.
The PA, mirroring the tactics of the Israeli occupation, continues to carry out arrests, raids, and extrajudicial killings—deepening the repression of the Palestinian people.

Palestinian Authority (PA) forces assassinated Rami Al-Zahran, a Palestinian man wanted by Israel, in the Al-Far'a refugee camp, south of Tubas. According to local sources, several PA officers opened fire on his vehicle, killing him on the spot.
Israeli authorities had accused Al-Zahran of being involved with a resistance group operating in the occupied West Bank. The PA operation also targeted his brother, Yazan, who is likewise wanted by Israel and survived the attack. In an official statement, the PA described the killing of Al-Zahran as an act of “self-defence.”
The killing has intensified criticism of the PA’s ongoing security coordination with Israel. Despite the genocidal war in Gaza and the Israeli military operation “Iron Wall” in the West Bank, the PA continues to carry out arrests, armed raids, and extrajudicial killings. These practices not only resemble those of the Israeli occupation but also, according to critics, constitute a second layer of repression against the Palestinian people.
