Request Toddler’s alcohol intake after drinking the water from the leftover ice after finishing a cocktail.

A few years ago, I had a vodka on the rocks, finished the drink, and left the glass of empty ice on my table. My daughter then drank it the next morning and we called the doctor and they just said to watch her for a few hours and to call back if she’s acting weird.

But I’m curious how much alcohol is in the ice (that then melts into water) after finishing a drink on the rocks.

To make the math easier, let’s assume the average drink is the American 1 drink = 1 shot (40%), one glass of wine (4-5 ounces, 12-15%), or one beer (I believe 5% is the standard for this).

How much alcohol did my daughter (25 lbs) consume, and in terms of weight, what is that like me drinking (200 lbs)?

Thanks math nerds!

REQUEST What percentage is -356 out of 230?

I hope I can explain this well 😅
In Kenshi health works like this: each body part has its own health. In humans, the default is 100. However, if your arm gets down to 0, you don't lose the arm, you just can't use the arm. This means each body part has two health bars: functional health, and a true health. Functional goes from 100 to 0, and true goes from 100 to -100.

I was fighting a creature whose body parts had 115 health. When the fight was over, its left leg was at -356 health. So I think this would be either 155% damage, if you count the health as 230, or 309.56% if you count the health as 115.

Request How high could I count?

This morning on my way to drop off my four year old he was counting out loud. When he got into the hundreds he stopped and asked,”daddy how high can you count?”

So me 35M if I live to average age and spent every waking moment counting out loud. How high could I get? This assumes I have to say each number in its entirety such as “one million three hundred fourth two thousand six hundred twenty two.”

Request Does this problem have a solution?

I recently stumbled upon this problem and didn't know how to solve it. All I know when equality occurs but how do I prove that the equation applies for all the real numbers from <1;2>?:

For real numbers a,b,c,d from an interval <1;2> applies (a+c)(b+d)=8. Prove that

(1/a²+b²-1)+(1/b²+c²-1)+(1/c²+d²-1)+(1/d²+a²-1)>=1

And determine when equality occurs.

Request Water pressure calculations?

I have been wondering about a low effort way of purging water that seeps into my cellar from underground during heavy rain periods and am trying to find out how far rainwater could be pushed up a small pipe using water pressure alone.

I have a 5m x 5m cellar space that’s about 2m in height, after trying to figure out why it leaks I’ve core drilled a hole in the floor and stuck a standard bucket over the hole and put a sump pump in it, so the bucket fills from the bottom like a natural spring when it rains and sets the sump pump off when it’s half full.

This got me wondering, if I sealed a small waste pipe into the concrete instead could the water pressure push the water out naturally?

The math part is - how high up a 2” tube could water be pushed in this manner as I’d need it to get up to about 1.5m. (And how important is the size of the pipe for this to work)

I already know that a plastic rectangular 18 Litre water storage tank (H 305 x W 296 x D 442 mm) will fill to the brim from underneath if this is any use at all.

I hope this makes sense.

[Request] How many frames per second would a camera need to record at in order to see a lighbulb light up a room?

A room or any object*

So it is my understanding that light travels close to 300000 km per second. It's also my understanding that if we were to light up any source of light, the light from said source would travel at that speed to every corner of a room/space that surrounds it.

Considering the above and hypotetically speaking, how many frames per second would this camera need to record at in order to see light travelling at such speed through the space that surrounds its source?

Also, bonus question: would it be possible to create a camera like that or are there any limitations that could prevent it from ever being created?
