📃 GROW VS. GROW UP

The verb grow is used when things increase in size and development:
(расти в прямом смысле)

▪️ The country’s economy is growing.
▪️ Many different kinds of flowers grow in my garden.

The phrasal verb grow up is used specifically for children becoming older and more mature (вырасти = повзрослеть):

▪️ My 5-year-old son wants to be a firefighter when he grows up.
▪️ I’m very thankful that I grew up in a loving family.

If you say an adult “needs to grow up,” it means he/she is acting immature (like a child) and should act more mature, like an adult.

💭 Нашла для вас очень полезный сервис для изучения языка. Суть в том, что можно задать любой вопрос, а на него ответят профессиональные учителя английского языка.
Можно консультироваться в чате, а так же подключить Телеграм бота и делать это прямо из месседжера.

Считаю ресурс очень полезным тем, кто учит язык самостоятельно, так как вопросов скапливается очень много, а объяснить их некому. А так же для тех, у кого остаются пробелы в знаниях после занятий на курсах или с репетитором.

📃 The Difference between irony/satire/sarcasm

Irony, satire, and sarcasm all fall into the category of, "That's funny but I'm not sure what my English teacher wants me to call it."

▪️ Irony describes situations that are strange or funny because things happen in a way that seems to be the opposite of what you expected. Note the "opposite" here. If an expectation is black, then an ironic outcome would be white, not off-white or gray.

▪️ Satire means making fun of people by imitating them in ways that expose their stupidity or flaws.

▪️ As with satire, sarcasm depends on the listener or reader to be in on the joke. Sarcasm is insincere speech. Your mom asks if you're excited to start cleaning the kitchen and you say, "Yeah, right," when you mean "Heck no."

❕ To distinguish irony from satire and sarcasm, remember that irony pertains to situations while satire and sarcasm are forms of expression. People make satire and sarcasm happen. Irony is just there.
