​​What is the function of Silica Gel in Power Transformers?

The transformer is filled with a insulating oil known as transformer oil.

This insulates the windings from the tank in which the core and windings are housed.The dielectric strength of oil is very sensitive to the presence of moisture.

Other wise even the presence of a few ppm of moisture drastically reduces its dielectric strength.

The transformer is not completely filled with oil. Some space is left above the oil level to cater for expansion of oil due to heating during working.

The oil expands when it becomes hot during working ,the air above oil level goes out through a breather arrangement.

During low load periods ,the temperature of the oil comes down and the volume of the oil reduces and air from outside enters through the breather to fill up the space.

Silica gel is placed inside the breather and the silica gel absorbs the moisture in the air and lets in dry air only in to the transformer.

Thus silica gel ensures no moisture enters the transformer through air and the dielectric strength of transformer is intact.

The image shows 2 silica breathers attached to a transformer.

The breather on the left shows no oil in the breather reservoir and the silica gel is being discoloured from the bottom up. This indicates moisture coming from the outside world and not the transformer.

The silica gel on the right shows no discolouration so we can assume no moisture in the transformer oil.

In this instance the colour change of the silica is from blue when dry and reddish brown when it has absorbed moisture.

There are many other colour changing combinations through silica and other materials used in transformer breathers.

However, gesture recognition is also a type of TUI, as it’s also controlled without the use of touch. With that said, many devices that support gesture recognition also support touchscreen.

While there are many different types of gesture recognition technology, they all work on the same basic principle of recognizing human movement as a form of input. The device features one or more sensors — or cameras — that monitors the user’s movement. When it detects a movement that corresponds with a command, it responds with the appropriate output. This may be unlocking the device, launching an app, changing the volume, etc.

Digital Signature: The encrypted hash value, along with the original document or message, forms the digital signature. It is appended to the document or message and can be transmitted along with it.

Verification: To verify the digital signature, the recipient uses the sender's public key to decrypt the encrypted hash value. If the decrypted hash value matches the hash value computed from the received document or message, it indicates that the document or message has not been altered during transmission and that it originated from the expected sender.

Digital signatures provide several benefits:

Authentication: Digital signatures provide proof of the identity of the sender. The recipient can verify the signature using the sender's public key, ensuring that the document or message was signed by the claimed sender.

​​​​What is the Gel that is applied before an Ultrasound Scan?

Ultrasound is a special form of technology that sends pulsing sound waves at a high frequency deep into the tissue of a patient using a probe or a transducer. The gel is rubbed onto the skin to help the transducer easily glide along the surface. The device can receive and also send sound waves, which then appear as images that are seen on a computer screen. A sonographer looks at the images to make sure that everything appears normal. This is done in real time and the person operating the ultrasound technology can move the transducer or the probe as required to get a fully defined picture of what’s happening beneath skin level. Screenshot images can also be taken and printed out if required.

Ultrasound gel is composed of a mix of propylene glycol and water. Propylene glycol is a synthetic product that is commonly found in hygiene, cosmetic and food products. It is quite sticky and thick. It’s important for it to have a sticky texture so that it stays on your skin and doesn’t drip off when the ultrasound is being performed.
The gel has a shelf life of approximately 5 years if the bottle remains unopened. Once opened, however, it’s recommended that it be used up within 28 days for the purpose of infection control.

Another thing that can get in the way of reducing clear images is static electricity. Ultrasound gel eliminates the static so that the procedure can be done effectively without any risk of static getting in the way.

Glial cells (named from the Greek word for "glue") are non-neuronal cells that provide support and nutrition, maintain homeostasis, form myelin, and participate in signal transmission in the nervous system.

Among the most important functions of glial cells are:

📍to supply nutrients to neurons
📍to insulate neurons electrically
📍to destroy pathogens and remove dead neurons
📍to provide guidance cues directing the axons of neurons to their targets.

✍️A very important set of glial cell generate layers of a fatty substance called myelin that wrap around axons and provide electrical insulation that allows them to transmit signals much more rapidly and efficiently.

✍️🧠In the human brain, it is currently estimated that the total number of glia roughly equals the number of neurons, although the proportions vary in different brain areas.

​​Why can’t we store AC in Batteries instead of DC?

Electrical energy is not stored directly in a battery. The battery stores electrical energy in the form of chemical energy.

Imagine that an alternating current (AC) is supplied directly to a rechargeable battery, with the negative terminal of the AC source connected to the negative terminal of the battery and the positive terminal of the AC source connected to the positive terminal of the battery.

The current starts flowing. But something goes wrong.
Alternating Current (AC) changes its polarities (i.e. it flows in two directions).

That is, in the one-half cycle of the AC waveform, current flows in one direction, but flows in the opposite direction during the other half cycle.

During the positive half cycle of the AC, conventional current flows to the battery through Cathode, and it gets charging. But when the AC gets to the negative half cycle, the current direction reverses, thereby leading to a discharge of the battery. And so on.

In the end, the positive half cycle of the AC that is charging the battery cancels out the negative half cycle that is discharging the battery.  

So, the battery does not get charged.

In fact, if the Alternating Current (AC) continues to supply the battery, it could damage it.
To prevent the discharge of the battery caused by the negative half cycle of the AC, the battery terminals would have to be changed as the AC alternates from Positive to Negative half cycle.

That is, the battery terminals would have to change as the AC changes. This will have to be done at the same frequency as the AC.

It means,if the frequency of the AC is 60Hz, the battery terminals would have to be changed 60 times in one second.

Do you think this is possible? Not at all.

This is referred to in the space community as Multi Layer Insulation (MLI). There are different types of it, the fancier stuff is made of alumnized polyimide (Kapton) which is where the gold color comes from. 
Depending on which way you have the outer and inner layers of the MLI configured you can have it both reflect solar energy and radiate heat, or retain heat while preventing radiation. So certain configurations will keep hot components hot and prevent them from losing heat to radiation, while other configurations will prevent heat from radiating into the component. It is also used to keep warmer spacecraft components (certain instruments, thrusters) from radiating heat to other parts of the spacecraft such as temperature-sensitive instruments.

The development of cancer typically involves several stages. It usually begins with a genetic mutation or a series of mutations that affect the normal functioning of a cell's DNA. These mutations can occur randomly or be inherited from parents. Certain risk factors, such as tobacco use, exposure to radiation, or viral infections, can increase the likelihood of these mutations.

Once a cell's DNA has been altered, it can start to divide and multiply rapidly, forming a mass of cells called a tumor. Tumors can be benign or malignant. Benign tumors are non-cancerous and do not invade nearby tissues or spread to other parts of the body. Malignant tumors, on the other hand, are cancerous and have the ability to invade surrounding tissues and metastasize, which means they can spread to other parts of the body through the bloodstream or lymphatic system.

As cancer progresses, it can interfere with the normal functioning of organs and tissues. Cancer cells can deprive healthy cells of oxygen and nutrients, produce toxic substances, and disrupt the body's normal physiological processes. The symptoms and effects of cancer depend on the type and stage of the disease, as well as the organs or tissues involved.

Cancer can be a serious and life-threatening condition, but advances in medical research and treatment have improved outcomes for many cancer patients. Treatments for cancer can include surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapy, and hormone therapy, among others. The choice of treatment depends on various factors, including the type and stage of cancer, the patient's overall health, and individual preferences.

​​What is Lightning?

Lightning is a giant spark of electricity in the atmosphere between clouds, the air, or the ground. In the early stages of development, air acts as an insulator between the positive and negative charges in the cloud and between the cloud and the ground. When the opposite charges build up enough, this insulating capacity of the air breaks down and there is a rapid discharge of electricity that we know as lightning. The flash of lightning temporarily equalizes the charged regions in the atmosphere until the opposite charges build up again.

Lightning can occur between opposite charges within the thunderstorm cloud (intra-cloud lightning) or between opposite charges in the cloud and on the ground (cloud-to-ground lightning).

Lightning is one of the oldest observed natural phenomena on earth. It can be seen in volcanic eruptions, extremely intense forest fires, surface nuclear detonations, heavy snowstorms, in large hurricanes, and obviously, thunderstorms.
Most, if not all, lightning flashes produced by storms start inside the cloud. If a lightning flash is going to strike ground, a channel develops downward toward the surface. When it gets less than roughly a hundred yards of the ground, objects like trees and bushes and buildings start sending up sparks to meet it. When one of the sparks connects the downward developing channel, a huge electric current surges rapidly down the channel to the object that produced the spark. Tall objects such as trees and skyscrapers are more likely than the surrounding ground to produce one of the connecting sparks and so are more likely to be struck by lightning. Mountains also make good targets. However, this does not always mean tall objects will be struck. Lightning can strike the ground in an open field even if the tree line is close by.

There are three main categories of contact lenses, based on the materials they are made of: soft contacts, rigid gas permeable (GP) contacts, and hybrid contact lenses.
Soft contacts are made of pliable hydrophilic ("water-loving") plastics called hydrogels.

Hydrogels absorb significant amounts of water to keep the lenses soft and supple.
Because of this water-loving characteristic, the water content of various hydrogel contact lenses can range from approximately 38 to 75 percent (by weight).

The water content of soft lenses allows oxygen to pass through the lenses and keep the cornea healthy during contact lens wear.

Gas permeable contacts, also called GP or RGP lenses, are rigid (hard) contact lenses. Like hydrogels used for soft lenses, materials used to create GP contact lenses also are "gas permeable," allowing oxygen to pass through the lenses to the cornea.

Unlike soft lenses, however, rigid gas permeable lenses do not contain significant amounts of water. Instead, GP lenses rely on their microscopically porous nature to transmit oxygen to the cornea.

Hybrid contact lenses have a rigid GP central optical zone, surrounded by a peripheral fitting zone made of a soft contact lens material.

​​Why does your Stomach growl when you are hungry?

The growling sound you hear from your stomach when you're hungry is known as "borborygmi" (singular: borborygmus). It is a normal physiological response that occurs as a result of the movement and contraction of the muscles in your gastrointestinal tract.

The growling sounds are caused by the movement of gas and fluid in your intestines, as well as the contraction of muscles in the stomach and small intestine. The contractions can be quite forceful, and when they occur in the presence of air and fluid, they produce the characteristic rumbling sound.

It's important to note that borborygmi are not exclusive to hunger. They can also be caused by other factors, such as gas or the movement of stool through the digestive system. Additionally, some individuals may experience more noticeable stomach growling than others, even when they are not necessarily hungry.

Gesture recognition is classified as a type of touchless user interface (TUI). Unlike a touchscreen device, TUI devices are controlled without touch. A voice-controlled smart speaker like Google Home and Amazon Alexa are prime examples of TUIs.

By speaking commands, you can control these devices, all without relying on touch.

However, gesture recognition is also a type of TUI, as it’s also controlled without the use of touch.

With that said, many devices that support gesture recognition also support touchscreen.
While there are many different types of gesture recognition technology, they all work on the same basic principle of recognizing human movement as a form of input.

The device features one or more sensors — or cameras — that monitors the user’s movement. When it detects a movement that corresponds with a command, it responds with the appropriate output.

​​Why does your Stomach growl when you are hungry?

The growling sound you hear from your stomach when you're hungry is known as "borborygmi" (singular: borborygmus). It is a normal physiological response that occurs as a result of the movement and contraction of the muscles in your gastrointestinal tract.

When you haven't eaten for a while, your stomach and intestines go through a process called the migrating motor complex (MMC). The MMC is a cyclical pattern of contractions that helps move residual food particles, gas, and digestive secretions along the digestive system.

The contractions can be quite forceful, and when they occur in the presence of air and fluid, they produce the characteristic rumbling sound.

It's important to note that borborygmi are not exclusive to hunger. They can also be caused by other factors, such as gas or the movement of stool through the digestive system. ​​How does Soap and Detergent work?

Soaps and detergents are made from long molecules that contain a head and tail. These molecules are called surfactants; the diagram below represents a surfactant molecule.

The head of the molecule is attracted to water (hydrophilic) and the tail is attracted to grease and dirt (hydrophobic). When the detergent molecules meet grease on clothes, the tails are drawn into the grease but the heads still sit in the water.
The attractive forces between the head groups and the water are so strong that the grease is lifted away from the surface. The blob of grease is now completely surrounded by detergent molecules and is broken into smaller pieces which are washed away by the water.
The detergent molecules also help to make the washing process more effective by reducing the surface tension of the water. Surface tension is the force which helps a blob of water on a surface hold its shape and not spread out. The attractant molecules of the detergent break apart these forces and make water behave, well, wetter!

These reflections can be uniform, which is light reflected from a smooth service. Uniform reflections would be light reflected off the road, or off a car’s bumper or back window. They can also be non-uniform, which is light reflected from an uneven surface. An example of this would be light reflected off running water or a patch of ice on the road.

No matter what the case, the desired result is to filter out the distracting reflected light and provide a clear viewing experience for the wearer.
