Why is 1921 an important year for mountain climbers?

Because it was in that year that Dalai Lama gave permission for Everest to be climbed for the first time.

This first expedition was mainly to discover if a route to summit could be found from the Tibetan side.

However, though many dreamed of standing on the rooftop of the world, they were all doomed to failure.

In 1922, seven sherpas died in an attempt by the British expedition led by George Mallory to reach the summit. In 1924, a third expedition managed to reach 8572 meter, but two members of the team, Mallory and Irvine, disappeared into the mist and were never seen again!

Mount Everest continued to lure climbers after climbers, but it was only in 1953 that it was finally conquered.

Why is it so?

The air is always warmest near the Earth's surface.

This is because the sun heats the Earth, and the gives off heat that warms the air.

The sun does not warm the atmosphere directly.

For each 300 meters, the temperature drops by about two degree centigrade.

What is Magna Carta ?

Magna Carta is a charter agreed to by King John of England at Runnymede, near Windsor, on 15 June 1215.

Magna Carta forms an important symbol of liberty today, often cited by politicians and campaigners, and is held in great respect by the British and American legal communities.

Lord Denning described it as "the greatest constitutional document of all times – the foundation of the freedom of the individual against the arbitrary authority of the despot".

The reason is that tea contains tannin (or tannic acid) which gives tea its colour.

Tannin is used as an agent for many dyes such as in the tanning of leather and in making ink, hence the reason that a stain is left in cups.

One wonders what it does to our insides. Coffee does not contain tannin.

Why carbon is referred as the wonder element ?

Carbon is one whose atoms have an almost infinite capacity for uniting with each other in chains and rings and various other configurations​, and for becoming linked with atoms of other substances.

What is aurora?

An aurora is a natural light display in the sky, predominantly seen in the high latitude regions (Aurora Borealis or the Northern Lights and Aurora Australis or the Southern Lights).
