But in all seriousness, the West has no grounds to stand on in complaining about Russian censorship of media. We all woke up this morning to find out that you can't access RT on American and western European telegram accounts anymore, and the explanation is that the content "violates local laws". Which laws are those? This isn't a new development either; in early February, before the war had started, Germany shut down RT's German operations, claiming that RT lacked the correct licensing to continue to broadcast in that country.
And of course, American dissidents have been silenced for years now, and European dissidents for decades. I hardly need to go into detail about this, we all know about this long-running story as we are all intimately a part of it.
Our people are occasionally too quick to dismiss the effectiveness of calling out the hypocrisy inherent to this system. In the past, I have done this too, and it is true that your enemy will not stop killing you just because you pointed out the hypocrisy of its actions. But I am beginning to think that underlining the hypocrisy of our enemies is a very important and indispensable weapon in our rhetorical arsenal, although it should not be the only one.
