What a day! 😳💵

We overtraded the expected nervousness ahead of the US CPI data on June 11 - it would have been better to trade less or already position for a positive US CPI report (which we expected) and a "no real update" from the FOMC - although the Fed tried to come off as thoughtful and rather hawkish - but the message didn't get through as the US CPI data was so positive / Fed-friendly beforehand that the Fed almost seemed anachronistic.

We now see our Nasdaq 100 position very deep in profit (even at ATH) after Broadcom's earnings report - we have found the absolute perfect entry. You can update your Nasdaq 100 position when pre-market trading reopens and lock in ~150 points of profit. You can also set a TP for your gold position and SL/TP if you are still in the Dow.

Congrats 👏 - we traded exceptionally well today (+big profits with gold again), had the right predictions and made the right call(s) after CPI data / Fed rate decision & dot plot update.

► Powell just said that the previous inflation data was not convincing enough, but today's US CPI data was very positive - this data was not taken into account by the FOMC members.

► Inflation already seems to be below the Fed's near-term expectations, which puts the Fed into a weird spot - generally odd timing that the US CPI data came out the same day as the Fed rate decision / dot plot update.

► Powell is NOT confident that inflation will pick up or stop cooling. That's certainly not hawkish - but he confirms that the Fed will (of course) be data dependent.

► We see that the swap market is not really convinced by the Fed's projection of a rate cut this year. Moreover, Powell has downplayed the importance of the dot plot, saying he has no confidence in the projection (nor the inflation projection).

► We buy the mini dip in the EUR/USD back to 1.08000 - 1.08100 here.

► The FOMC would likely have expressed itself differently had it been aware of today's US CPI data, which showed progress toward the Fed's 2 percent target.

► We expect the USD weakening on today's data (even more than after the CPI data). We are therefore going LONG into gold again. We saw gold now falling back into the $2,320 - $2,322.50 range. We also see yields little changed and (currently) still -10.5 basis points lower for today.

► I would say that the market will not overestimate the minimal change in the dot plot here and instead put more focus on the really cooler-than-expected US CPI numbers from today.

► The FOMC has not yet factored today's CPI figures into its decisions. Although the Fed anyways prefers the PCE reading.

► In the end, the Fed remains data dependent either way. If inflation cools further, the Fed will have to cut. The Fed is therefore less in the driver's seat here than most think, but has to REACT primarily to data.

► The Dow Jones is back to pre-CPI levels, with a rotation back to growth stocks (away from defensives) and a general underperformance of Dow Jones components, including Salesforce. Visa and JPMorgan are facing temporary headwinds as they benefit from higher interest rates. Chevron is also oversold. UnitedHealth with the biggest weigh on the Dow Jones is down 1.5% which drags the Dow Jones down by almost 0.15% or 60 points alone.

► We buy the Dow Jones here (38800 - 38850). While interest rate sensitive stocks (which are also part of the Dow Jones) outperform, we will see a broadening of gains, which will ultimately also boost the Dow.

► Following the US CPI data, which came in much cooler than expected, and the hope that the Fed will maintain its rate-cutting course over the course of the year, we are optimistic about the market overall.

► There are too many tailwinds for equities for the Dow Jones to remain flat.

► One risk remains, however: The dot plot could indicate that some FOMC members have lowered their rate cut forecasts, which could create headwinds on Wall Street again - however, the downside potential for the Dow Jones is limited as some of the components now trading in the red would benefit from a conservative Fed approach / dot plot. We are working with a tight SL.

We tighten our SL significantly and set our TP at 2340. Yields continue to fall as investors do not expect a hawkish surprise from the FOMC. I agree and believe the dot plot will hardly change and continue to show two rate cuts for 2024. However, the FOMC's dot plot decision was made ahead of today's unexpectedly cool US CPI, which means that the FOMC had very mixed data on the US labor market and economy, although the PCE data also pointed to cooling price pressures.

We are quite LONG positioned and thus set an in-profit SL for our new Nasdaq 100 LONG. We see the Nasdaq 100 very near ATH (even shortly at a new ATH) - which shows that the market is digesting the Fed's dot plot update and Powell's comments very well.

Powell is certainly not convinced about one rate cut or even about the Fed's inflation projection.

The market will thus focus more on actual data. We had a very positive US CPI reading today.

I think we traded the dot plot correctly here.

► No rate cut as expected, but the dot plot shows changes in rate cut expectations that are causing a mixed reaction. However, the news is that the Fed only expects one rate cut (in total) for 2024 - that is a surprise.

► At the same time, however, it has increased the rate cut expectations for 2025 to a total of 4 rate cuts (-100 basis points instead of -75 basis points), which means that a rate cut is basically postponed until early 2025. Ultimately, this is not a big change.

► We have to keep in mind that the FOMC made this decision before today's US CPI data ⚠️

► This is really hard to trade as this is really a special case.

► Yields have risen a bit, but there hasn't been a massive reaction. I think the market can live very well with this rate cut forecast. Given the very good CPI data, we want to stay LONG in the Dow Jones (in case your SL hasn't been triggered).

► We buy the Nasdaq here (and stay LONG in the Dow Jones if your position is still open). We enter the Nasdaq range 19450 - 19475.

►It's also worth noting that still most FOMC members were in favor of two cuts: Four members want no rate cut this year, seven want one rate cut and eight want two rate cuts.

Easy money. Yields are sharply down - now near 14 bps for the US-10-Y. It was rather easy to identify the technical pullback here.

We see strong fundamental tailwinds for gold. We see that investors remain concerned about Gold's price and potential profit taking waves (normally we would see an even bigger impact on gold here).

We again secure nice profits as we see again some technical resistance. Fundamentally gold should be able to hit new session highs later today.

🔹 The Nasdaq 100 (+0.9%) has risen significantly after the US CPI. We have set the perfect TP for our Nasdaq LONG before the CPI and still see the Nasdaq near 19400. We expect further gains and remain LONG.

🔹 ExxonMobil (+0.7%) will open above our TP and make a nice gain. Given the continued strong gains in energy prices, I continue to see the energy sector on the upswing. We are looking for a good re-entry.

🔹 McDonald's (+0.6%) opens in line with the Dow Jones gains. We can keep our TP, but our SL 🔑 @: 253.34.

► We go LONG in growth stocks and pick Tesla - which also benefits from Morgan Stanley keeping Tesla at "OVERWEIGHT" and saying that Tesla could be working on its own smartphone. This is just a rumor for now (Elon Musk responded in a post on X, but with his usual humor that it's not a bad idea). Tesla will see a lot of sentiment gains and will also benefit from the tariffs on Chinese electric cars in Europe. Tesla opens almost flat - we can enter at 170.00 - 170.70.

► We also want to buy the recently underperforming chip stock AMD. AMD is benefiting from lower yields / weaker USD, general run on growth / yield-sensitive stocks. Strong gains in other chip stocks (especially Nvidia and Broadcom), but AMD is also initiated as a "BUY" by investment firm Edward Jones. AMD opens 0.6% higher at / slightly below 160.00 (where we enter).

A beauty of a trade. CPI core M/M came in at 0.2% vs 0.3% expected. We saw this as a very likely outcome. Also Y/Y came in at 3.4% vs. 3.5% expected and below the 3.6% from the previous month. Headline inflation also came in cooler-than-expected.
