Given the very strong swings - we can be extremely happy with our performance today - with NVDA of course hurting our overall profit (but it's right to close off-profit - given the potential for further strong downside). We closed our other LONG positions, CRM ๐ธ (massive profit; with an absurdly perfect TP at 303.97), Dow Jones ๐ธ and GOOGL very well - before the heavy profit taking kicked in. We expected profit taking in the second half of US trading - but the selling went very far - exacerbated by rising geopolitical tensions. XOM ๐ธ rallied even more on the spike in oil prices. We also brought a big profit with Bitcoin home - although much more was possible. We continue to trade gold with a "flawless" performance.

Although we see over-selling now - and can expect a big rebound in case NFP data is not the next strong labor market report the market is anticipating - we need to get out of Nvidia here (if your position not already hit SL). There is still too much downside potential towards March lows.
We also update our Tesla position which saw strong sentiment-driven (non-fundamental) gains today - but is now seeing sharp profit taking.

โบ Gold remains bullish and is benefiting from a very nervous market - even if in reality a hot NFP result tomorrow (which investors here fear) would be bad for gold due to further rising yields and a stronger USD (= reduced rate cut expectations).
โบ However, gold is the safe haven of choice after a very strong Q1. We remain bullish on gold, especially in the medium to long term.

โบ We are buying the strong profit-taking in Salesforce, which initially opened very well and benefited from the pre-market gains, especially the growth sector gains. I continue to believe that Salesforce can and should benefit from Microsoft unbundling Teams from its Office products - which it did in Europe six months ago to avoid a potential EU antitrust fine. Salesforce opened (as I said) strong - then saw profit taking and even a LONG squeeze, dragging the stock down 4% from initial gains and almost 3% lower for today, weighing heavily on the Dow Jones as well.
โบ We buy both dips. Our Dow Jones position from yesterday hit our TP for a nice profit (three successful Dow Jones trades in a row). We re-enter near/below our TP (~ 39300) and expect the Dow Jones to rally back towards 39400 and benefit overall from the broad gains on Wall Street.

๐ฐ NYSE OPENING UPDATE ๐ฏ
We are well positioned overall and have picked the right stocks to buy on dips this week. We see a positive opening after Fed Chair Powell expressed less hawkishness than concerns and unemployment figures paint a more mixed picture of the US labor market - which is seen positively as an easing labor market is seen as key to the Fed's willingness to cut rates.
๐น Alphabet (- 0.7 %) opens lower after the recent outperformance, which we traded very successfully. Our position is deep in profit and we have an in-profit SL that can be triggered. We will continue to buy dips in Alphabet.
๐น ExxonMobil (- 0.3%) opens slightly lower - close to our opening price. There could be the first slight profit-taking as growth prevails. The energy sector remains bullish.
๐น Intel (+ 0.8%) opens higher and will probably continue to recover from yesterday's sharp drop. We remain LONG. We set our SL ๐ at 40.18.
๐น Tesla (+ 1.0%) opens higher and benefits from a still very optimistic analyst call from Morgan Stanley. We could see further dip buying, but the outlook for Tesla remains bearish. We will improve our average entry if Tesla can enter the ๐ฝ $171.50 - $172.50 range.
โบ We are looking for a good entry in Nvidia (and other recent oversold stocks), which I think can recover today from recent heavy losses - before traders become more cautious again in the second half of trading.

We have a few open positions - slightly off profit overall - mainly due to our EUR/USD from April 2nd. We want to widen our SL a bit for our EUR/USD positions as it is very tight and we may see slight additional gains towards 1.08500. We also tighten the TP of our Bitcoin position a bit as we have seen a slight slowdown in buying towards the end of the regular US session. We also set a SL and an optional TP for our Dow Jones position. We saw a slightly positive close for Wall Street. GOOGL seems to close tomorrow at our probably a bit too tight TP. Some returning profit taking in MSFT unfortunately triggered our tight SL. We once again made a very strong dip buy in gold - even though gold went much higher - gains that we should have participated in.
Enjoy your night,
Robert

SELL NOW ๐ฝ Tesla (TSLA) ๐บ๐ธ
โ ๏ธ Volatile
โบ We have been very successful buying the dips in tech in recent trading sessions, now we are doing the opposite with Tesla. We see that Tesla is now up 1% (trading near 168.50), benefiting from dip buying after the sharp drop following Tesla's weak Q1 deliveries - down almost 10% y/y - pure poison for the mega growth story Tesla, a stock that still trades at a (fwd) P/E of almost 60 (= extremely expensive).
โบ Tesla delivered 386,810 electric vehicles in Q1/2024 - compared to 433,371 in Q1/2023. Vehicle production fell less sharply year-on-year by 1.7%, which means that Tesla was also unable to sell (or deliver) all the vehicles it produced - a clear sign of weak(ening) demand. Tesla's deliveries in the last quarter were far below the expectations of even the most pessimistic analysts.
โบWhile Tesla itself cites reasons other than weak demand or increasing competition - especially from China - such as production conversions in California and some plant closures, the reality is different - also clearly visible in the increasing number of rebates and other incentives - which also seem to have less and less impact on increasing near-term sales.
โบ I expect more negative voices from investment banks. JPMorgan lowered their price target today from $130 per share to $115. Guggenheim Securities also lowered their price target on Tesla from $132 today to $122. Deutsche Bank lowered their target to $189 from $200 but remain bullish overall.
โบ I expect further headwinds. Even though we will see some dip buying - Tesla seems to be heading towards $150 and below in Q2. We expect a weak open tomorrow and more selling in the first half of April.

SL ๐ @: 2278.89
TP โ
@: 2301.69
We have seen some wild swings today - with first rising significantly and then sold off very sharply. The Dow Jones is down ~550 points.
I'm not too worried about our gold position. There are too many reasons for a flight to gold - not just the huge uncertainty in equities, but also the geopolitical tensions after Iran announced retaliation for the missile attack on its consulate in Damascus. The situation in the Middle East has become much more volatile - it is on the verge of another serious escalation.
We do see some overselling in equities, but the situation is too volatile - partly because the rise in the oil price poses a further threat to more cyclical / growth stocks.
It's surprising that the USD isn't rallying more, but it shows that FX traders aren't expecting a particularly hot NFP report tomorrow - neither am I. However, I don't see any conditions that would argue for a rate cut as early as June or for more than two rate cuts in 2024. However, the US economy does not need interest rate cuts either.
You could certainly buy the dip here (Nasdaq / Dow Jones at the level of early March), but there is a lot that points to potentially even better entries tomorrow. Gold is likely to see a further push higher overnight / in early Asian trading - especially if concerns about a further escalation of the situation in the Middle East are confirmed.

โบ Nvidia opened at $904.00 and is now seeing some profit-taking. We are entering the chip giant at around $895 - $900 and expect the upswing to continue. Other chip stocks are also seeing significant dip buying (we are already LONG in Intel) after heavy profit taking in the previous week / or very heavy profit taking in Intel yesterday. Nvidia continues to benefit from very positive analyst calls. Mizuho gives a price target for Nvidia of $1,000 and expects Nvidia to continue to dominate.
โบ Alphabet underperformed Wall Street / Big Tech in pre-market trading. Our position was closed (SL; in profit). We re-enter (near $152.50 - well below our SL) - taking advantage of the lower opening. Alphabet remains bullish. We continue to buy significant (~1%) dips.

๐ ROBโS DAILY UPDATE ๐
โผ๏ธ Equities continue to edge higher as Powell confirms Fed still on track for cuts
Stocks continue to recover from Tuesday's slump after strong US economic data initially further reduced expectations that the Fed will cut interest rates in the current quarter and three times in total. Recent data also suggests that the labor market remains tight and companies continue to have many job openings and are struggling to fill them.
However, initial jobless claims in the US reported a few minutes ago now show a more mixed picture of the US labor market again, as initial jobless claims in the US rose last week to their highest level since January, which is in line with the recent increase in the number of job cuts. Initial jobless claims rose by 9,000 to 221,000, also above expectations of 214,000, but continuing jobless claims were down slightly from February. The main focus will be on tomorrow's NFP report, while today's moves will remain muted as traders prepare for Friday's jobs report.
After several warnings from investment banks that valuations on Wall Street are very high, investors have become more nervous that markets could come under pressure - especially if interest rates remain high for longer. Powell softened these concerns somewhat after saying that the latest inflation figures - although higher than expected - have not "materially changed" the overall picture.
We see yields moving lower after the initial jobless claims data and markets continuing to rise as expected. Risk sentiment has improved and markets in Japan and Europe have also rallied. The strong USD gave back some of its recent strong gains and concerns that the US Treasury bond slump (which pushed yields to 2024 highs) could intensify have eased significantly.
The NFP report has been unreliable of late as the previous month's data is usually adjusted (downwards). It is therefore difficult to gauge how the markets will react and how reliable the NFP data is. I expect a mixed, initially slightly negative reaction, but the markets will return to an overall positive market sentiment next week. We are already seeing some investors ease their concerns that higher interest rates will cause a significant slowdown in the US economy for an extended period of time. In addition, I continue to see good enough conditions for the US economy and strong evidence that growth, and therefore the overall positive momentum, remains intact - the US economy does not yet need interest rate cuts.
The improving sentiment is weighing a little on gold, but the outlook remains bullish. The oil price has stabilized after recent strong gains - a sign that commodity traders expect demand to rise as the global economy (especially China's economy) improves.

BUY NOW ๐ผ Gold (XAU/USD)๐ฅ
โบ We have (successfully) bought every significant dip in gold and are buying a little earlier today. We do not expect any major headwinds as there is no very important US economic data that could push yields much higher in the short term today. US initial jobless claims could have a small impact, but after the recent strong US labor market data (JOLTs openings, ADP payrolls report), the market is already expecting further signs of a strong and resilient labor market ahead of tomorrow's NFP data.
โบ After another strong rise in the gold price - which reached the $2,300 mark for the first time in US evening and overnight trading (Asia) - we nevertheless see a dip of around $15/oz.
โบ We see yields stabilizing near the 2024 highs. Comments from Fed Chairman Jerome Powell, who reiterated that the Fed remains on a wait-and-see (data dependent) approach but is still aiming for rate cuts later this year, supported the gold price and caused the USD to give back some of its recent strong gains.
โบ If tomorrow's NFP report shows signs of easing on the labor market, the gold price could rise sharply. Otherwise, it will initially fall but remain bullish and recover in the following week. We want to trade the bounce from the current dip back to $2,290 - $2,293 and expect gold to test/break through $2,300 again later today.
โบ The gold price has now also fallen somewhat as risk sentiment has improved and demand for safe havens has dampened somewhat. This can also be seen in Bitcoin, which (as we expected) continues to try to recover and thus moved in the opposite direction to gold.

๐ SmartTrader Insights: Thursday Markets Wrap ๐
๐ Thursday, April 4
โ๏ธ European equities rise as services sector improves; Global equities slightly positive ahead of key US labor market report on Friday
โบ In Europe, stocks saw a slight boost ahead of US employment figures and following further improving economic data, with the Euro Stoxx 600 moving 0.2% higher. Meanwhile, Spain's services sector showed resilience with the PMI climbing to an impressive 56.1 in March, reflecting a seventh consecutive month of business activity increase. Germany's service sector just edged into expansion, with a PMI of 50.1 marking a six-month high, highlighting a mixed but hopeful economic landscape across the continent.
โบ Over in the US, futures rose by over 0.3%. This comes after Powell's reassurance that the Fed is on a wait-and-see stance regarding interest rate adjustments, which did little to sway the consensus that rate cuts are on the horizon this year. However, the anticipation of comprehensive job data keeps investors on their toes, balancing optimism with the reality of recent strong economic indicators that have tempered expectations for an aggressive monetary easing policy.
โบ Asia presented a diverse picture; Japan's Nikkei 225 surged by 0.81%, buoyed by positive market sentiment and despite the country's large manufacturers showing a dip in confidence. However, markets in China and Hong Kong remained closed for a public holiday, pausing the assessment of Asia's economic pulse amid ongoing recovery signs and central bank policies. The earthquake in Taiwan has led to speculation about potential increases in chip prices, affecting stocks such as Samsung and SK Hynix.
โบ Oil prices edged slightly lower to $85/barrel amidst OPEC+ supply cut speculations and geopolitical tensions. Gold prices steadied at near $2,290/oz after hitting a record high, as investors flock to safe havens amidst the uncertainties surrounding global inflation, interest rate trajectories and concerns about little upside at Wall Street in 2024.

BUY NOW ๐ผ ExxonMobil (XOM) ๐บ๐ธ
โบ We want to stay LONG in the energy sector and enter ExxonMobil, which is trading slightly lower shortly before the close due to profit-taking in oil.
โบ Nevertheless, oil prices have risen by more than 5% in the last 5 trading sessions, while natural gas has risen by almost 8%.
โบ ExxonMobil is now trading at a forward P/E ratio of over 13, which is on the high end compared to other oil and gas companies, but still undervalued overall.
โบ We expect XOM to rise above $120.00 soon and find a good entry point here. With oil prices slightly elevated, we favor the energy sector, which will also benefit from the general rotation into the energy sector (from growth/technology).

โ ๏ธ HIGH volatility; Increased risk!
TP โ
@: (VIP ONLY)
โบ Although Bitcoin doesn't need much fundamental reason to go through a phase of corrections or significant swings - such as the explosive performance in Q1 and the 5% drop earlier this week - we can safely say that the jump in yields has put pressure on Bitcoin.
โบ We are now seeing a stabilization in US Treasuries - which also led to gold reaching a new ATH again. Even if there is hardly any correlation between gold and Bitcoin, a strong USD and higher yields are also weighing on the opportunity costs of the non-yielding cryptocurrency.
โบFrom a technical perspective, higher lows and higher highs are a good sign that buy orders are gaining the upper hand. Bitcoin almost hit our expected resistance at $67K today - I believe this level will be broken very soon. Therefore, we now find a good entry point slightly below $65.5K - $65.8K and want to capitalize on a rebound in Bitcoin, which also benefits from the news that asset manager VSFG and Value Partners have jointly filed for a spot Bitcoin ETF in Hong Kong. I think there is a good chance that the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) will allow in-kind contributions for spot bitcoin ETFs - following similar moves by the SEC (US) and FCA (UK).
โบ We have set a TP that I think has a very good chance of being triggered soon. We are also seeing an upswing in trading/buying activity. Coinbase is up 2.6% today.
