However, markets are now increasingly vulnerable, mainly because some of the concerns remain for longer - such as the Fed keeping rates higher for longer, ongoing geopolitical tensions and worries that the current earnings season will show a slowdown in earnings growth that does not justify the still high valuations.


🔹 Nasdaq 100 (in profit) - we set a tight TP for the Nasdaq 100 as we continue to see Wall Street nervous. NYSE opening volatility could ultimately lead to some profit taking again - TP ✅ @: 17792.30.

🔹 Chevron (- 0.2 %) opens almost unchanged and remains oversold. We remain LONG in Chevron.

► We are less optimistic on Tesla, which opens down 2.5% after a deep red session yesterday but is likely to take further losses given growing fears that Tesla is experiencing a sharp slowdown even though the company is still priced in at a hefty premium. We want to find an entry point near $158.00* and are looking at Tesla with further heavy losses ahead.

The DAX looks to soar here, but still has plenty of potential for further recovery as much of the losses came in after-hours trading as Wall Street weighed heavily on European equities.

Markets are looking for an excuse to take profits, and the combination of rising geopolitical risks and concerns that the US Federal Reserve will cut interest rates much more slowly than anticipated at the start of the year is (seemingly) reason enough to do so. As long as earnings remain solid, there is no fundamental support for a major correction. The economic data are largely above expectations and the economic and sentiment data in Europe - including Germany - are also improving significantly.

We continue to tighten our SL. A very strong trade against the market with an even better entry - congratulations!

The Stoxx Europe 600 index suffered its largest one-day drop since October, tumbling over 1.3%. US equity futures also edged lower, reflecting a market fraught with caution. ► Today's strong US retail sales have further strengthened expectations that the Fed will keep rates higher-for-longer.

►The swap markets are now pricing in no more than a 50% chance that the Fed will cut rates even in July, and around a 10% chance that it will not cut at all in 2024.

► Given the very robust economic data, which even points to an acceleration of growth in the US - which probably also means that inflation will remain stubborn and possibly even accelerate given the strong growth and continued strength of the US consumer and rising commodity prices - the outlook for the USD remains bullish and Fed rate cut expectations are likely to fall further.

► Last week's dovish comments from the ECB and inflation data in the Eurozone close to 2% (some economies are already below 2% YoY - such as Italy) mean that the outlook for the EUR/USD remains bearish and the EUR/USD will not be able to hold 1.06000.

We further tighten our TP here and get out soon. Tesla trades nearly 4.5% lower (weighing sharply on the Nasdaq 100). Our Tesla SHORT is deep in profit. We stay SHORT. You can set an in-profit SL. We would then sell at a higher price again. Microsoft, Apple, Nvidia and Meta help the Nasdaq to stay in slightly positive territory.

‼️ Global stocks stabilize but remain vulnerable after Wall Street sell-off

The sharp sell-off on Wall Street is easing in pre-market US trading, but markets remain concerned about higher interest rates for longer and possible Israeli retaliation against Iran.

Economic data continues to underline the strength of the US economy and economic and sentiment data in Europe is also improving. The conflict in the Middle East has led to a flight to safety, higher energy prices and thus to fears of inflation. The persistently good US economic data has dashed expectations of an imminent interest rate cut by the Fed. However, as long as earnings remain solid - especially for the leading mega-caps - we see a sell-off driven mainly by caution.

US Treasury yields continue to rise, pointing to a general flight to safety and expectations of higher rates in the longer term. The USD also remains in demand as markets expect the interest rate differential between the Fed and other major central banks to widen again in the coming months.

For the time being, however, the markets remain fragile. We will continue to see short-term rallies met by profit-taking. Tesla shares continue to weigh on Wall Street / the Nasdaq after two of the electric car maker's top executives left the company in the biggest job cuts ever. Morgan Stanley rose 3% in pre-market trading after the company reported first-quarter net asset management revenue above analysts' average estimates. UnitedHealth led the gains and drove the Dow Jones sharply higher after the healthcare giant reported better-than-expected first-quarter revenue growth of nearly 9% year-on-year.

The ongoing nervousness on the market will continue to support the price of gold, which is rising again after Friday's sharp correction. In view of the ongoing uncertainty surrounding equities, the earnings season and geopolitical tensions, the gold price appears to be well on the way to breaking through the recent ATH again soon.

► We also want to trade the short-term rebound (attempt) of Wall Street. The Dow Jones has already climbed earlier back to 38000, supported by above-average gains from UnitedHealth.

► The Nasdaq 100 is being dragged down by further losses from electric car pioneer Tesla - which we should have shorted yesterday as we continue to have growing concerns that Tesla is no longer able to grow as fast as in recent years - on the contrary, sales are falling, as competitors are growing faster (than Tesla) and offering electric cars at more attractive prices - which continues to weigh on the margins of Tesla, which has also slashed the prices of its electric cars and yet has not been able to increase sales above last year's levels. The fact that Tesla plans to lay off more than 10% of its global workforce seems to be the latest sign of a faltering growth story.

► We see broad dip buying in the tech sector. The Nasdaq 100 is currently trading flat again for today. We are entering the current mini dip (17700 - 17730) here.

We are now more careful with our positions and aware of more sentiment driven profit taking. There is also the risk of an Israeli retaliation against Iran - which would short-term further put pressure on risk assets (including stocks).

We found the perfect entry into the DAX which is now already deep in profit also benefiting from strong gains of UnitedHealth (following a solid earnings report).

We see here a nervous market but overall improving economic data. Fed rate concerns continue to weigh. The ECB remains on path for rate cuts. As long as earnings report remain solid - I see that equities (also Wall Street) should be able to recover.

► Our DAX position hit our SL, while equities in Asia and Europe extended their losses despite overall positive economic data from the US and the Eurozone and mixed but generally positive signals from the Chinese economy. Chinese GDP growth in the first quarter was 5.3% QoQ, which represents solid growth at the start of the year and is above expectations of 5%. However, retail sales and industrial production grew less strongly than expected.

► Sentiment data from Germany and the Eurozone improved significantly and were well above expectations (Germany at 42.9 compared to 35.9 expected and well above the 31.7 reading in March). Sentiment data from the Eurozone was also well above expectations at 43.9 compared to 37.2 (33.5 in March). The Eurozone also achieved a massive trade surplus. Inflation data from Italy came in below expectations at 1.2% (vs. 1.3%), indicating that the ECB can/will likely start easing financial conditions in June.

► The negative market sentiment came in particular from Wall Street, which feared that the Fed could raise interest rates in the longer term after retail sales once again came in better than expected.

► In addition, the market appears to remain concerned about geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, with Israel potentially retaliating against Iran. However, Iran's attack on Israel could have been more severe and the Iranian projectiles were intercepted. I see a nervous but oversold market. We are going LONG here in the DAX near 17800.

Not a great trading trading day. Positioning was solid, especially post NYSE opening - but too late / suboptimal position managing which then lead to bad closures upon return of profit taking / rising concerns about higher rates for longer. Open positions now with risk to close in (off-profit) SLs. We tighten the TP for our Bitcoin position. DAX SL is now very tight - but either opens positively tomorrow or hits tight SL (more likely). Great gold (trades) - could have traded the rebound in gold with nervous markets a bit earlier for even bigger profits.
