We are now trading Nvidia larger (after the stock split). Wells Fargo raises its price target on Nvidia by $30 (to $155), investment firm Rosenblatt goes further and raises its price target to $200 (!) - even more tailwind for a stock that is already soaring.

The mistake today started with the fact that we (or rather I) traded the short-term sentiment instead of fundamentals. We should have focused on the latest data, such as last week's soft US inflation data. We actually anticipated today's market correctly on Friday but then didn't trade accordingly. I completely fell into the early sentiment trap today - I am very sorry about that. We are now seeing an overbought Wall Street - there was some profit taking at the close, with Apple in particular losing early gains. It will be interesting to see what Asia/Europe does tomorrow. However, we expect the market to follow the fundamentals and brush aside hawkish Fed comments. We are updating our gold position - gold remains in an overall bearish momentum and is likely to test $2,300 again soon.

We have to bite the bullet here - today's very strong performance from Big Tech has turned market sentiment from cautious to bullish - which means we no longer want to be SHORT. The energy sector is an incredible underperformer even today with the oil price up almost 3%. We continue to see massive demand for growth/technology stocks.

We also want to set a tight SL / TP for our AUD/USD. While we see yields still rising 6-7bps (for the US 10yr bonds), we see a much more positive overall market sentiment supporting AUD. Also, the RBA may be more cautious tomorrow, which could further boost AUD. We are setting a tight SL & TP.

It is our weakest trading day this year - we are not well positioned. The rush to upgrade the outlook for equities / the S&P 500 by the investment banks led to additional FOMO buying.

At the same time, we do not want to overtrade the current overbuying or buy at ATHs.

‼️ Market sentiment remains cautious after heavy losses in Europe on political uncertainty

Global equities and bonds remain under pressure, giving back much of the early gains triggered by French far-right leader Marine le Pen's promise to respect political institutions if she wins the upcoming general election. We see Wall Street slightly down (S&P 500 - 0.1% pre-market) and stocks in Europe also gave back their early gains.

On a rather quiet day, cautious sentiment remains as stocks struggle to recover from last week's sell-off triggered by French President Emmanuel Macron's call for early elections, which could bring gains to right-wing groups such as Le Pen's National Rally. Markets remain nervous about the heightened political risk posed by the situation in France. There are many indications that instability in France will increase after the elections, which also pose a risk to Macron's important but widely unpopular economic reforms.

While markets in Europe appear to be oversold in the short term, it will be very difficult to mount a significant recovery before the first round of voting on June 30. The ongoing political uncertainty makes equities in Europe, and in France in particular, unattractive for the time being. Analysts, such as those from Citigroup today, have also warned that a possible far-right majority or another coalition with left-wing parties in France remains a major risk.

Meanwhile, investors are also listening to further statements from Fed representatives. The president of the Minneapolis Federal Reserve, Neel Kashkari, said on Sunday that it was a "reasonable prediction" that the Fed would cut interest rates once this year and wait until December to do so.

Monetary policy fears are also weighing on market sentiment ahead of interest rate decisions from a number of central banks this week, including the Bank of England (Thursday) and the Australian and Norwegian central banks. The rather hawkish comments from these central banks and the fact that they are in no hurry to cut rates could further weigh on market sentiment, especially as Wall Street is still near its all-time highs.

Higher yields, continued demand for the USD and cautious sentiment are weighing on commodity prices, including gold. Oil prices continue to be supported by expectations of rising demand for oil and a slight supply deficit at present.

Our EUR/USD hit the SL then fell much further into deep oversold territory. Election forecasts point to a potential disaster for French President Macron, with the far-right National Rally likely to win the election by a wide margin. The markets are assuming that Macron made a miscalculation here and that parliament will be much more critical of the president after the new elections - which also means that Macron's Renaissance party, which will lose many seats, may have to form new coalitions with more left-wing parties. This is worrying the markets due to fears that Macron's seven years of economic reforms could be undone, putting the country on a collision course with the European Union over fiscal policy. Further election forecasts that confirm current projections could therefore lead to further losses and unrest on Monday despite oversold European equities (and EUR).

❗️ European stocks opens higher on US & Asian tech rally; Investors await more Fed statement & US retail data

► European stocks climbed higher following gains in Asian markets and a strong performance by large US tech companies. The Stoxx Europe 600 index increased by 0.3% ahead of German sentiment data, driven by rebounds in the banking and technology sectors. This recovery came after a selloff sparked by political unrest in France. Investors remain cautious ahead of the US retail sales data and upcoming speeches by Federal Reserve officials later today.

► US equity futures steadied after the S&P 500 reached a record high for the 30th time this year. The positive movement was influenced by banks increasing their targets for US equities. Goldman Sachs for instance, has raised its year-end target for the S&P 500 to 5,600, predicting a 7.7% increase driven by stronger-than-expected corporate earnings and a higher price-earnings multiple. Chinese markets were mixed, with the SHCOMP up 0.26% and the People’s Bank of China leaving its medium-term lending facility rate unchanged at 2.5%. In Australia, the ASX 200 rose by 1% after the Reserve Bank of Australia kept rates steady at 4.35%. The Australian Dollar trades with mild losses after the RBA decision.

► In commodities, oil prices declined slightly after jumping over 2% yesterday, influenced by broader market optimism despite a mixed crude outlook. WTI Crude oil is trading around $79.5/barrel. Gold prices dipped slightly to $2,311/oz and remains on path to test the $2,300/oz level again according to SmartTrader Chief Analyst Robert Lindner. ► Today I strongly overestimated the worries in Europe, the early losses in Asia and the rise in yields. Instead, we are seeing a very strong performance in New York, driven by (again) big tech/chip stocks, which we actually saw coming on Friday - and despite higher yields. The already positive sentiment was further fueled by a series of year-end upgrades to the S&P 500 from the likes of Evercore, Goldman Sachs, UBS and Main Street Research. The Nasdaq 100 has just reached the 20,000 mark for the first time ever.

► We are also seeing such a strong positive performance because we have seen significant overselling in Europe, which has also had a negative impact on Wall Street - probably more so than at first glance, after Wall Street closed slightly lower on Friday.

► Equities in Europe remain very volatile, but today's strong performance on Wall Street alone will provide a strong tailwind for the markets in Europe tomorrow. DAX & Co rose significantly in after-hours trading.

► We see improving market sentiment and a still oversold EUR. Although the uncertainty persists, the EUR has considerable recovery potential - also because the ECB is positioning itself more cautiously with regard to further interest rate cuts.

► The CHF has benefited from the cool US inflation data and the flight to safety. We buy the slight dip in the pair back to (slightly below) 0.95500.

► We also need to set a tight SL 🔑 @: 18177.30 for our DAX position (if you are still SHORT). The DAX still has considerable recovery potential after last week's heavy losses.

► The strong USD is putting pressure on commodity prices, which are relatively broadly lower (only the oil price is able to maintain its level). The stronger USD and lower commodity prices are weighing on the AUD. The overall cautious risk sentiment is also weighing on the risk-sensitive Aussie.

► We currently see the AUD/USD near 0.66000 and expect the pair to come under increased selling pressure in the 0.66000 - 0.66150 range.

► Despite the recent, significantly softer inflation reports and lower yields, the performance of gold continues to be rather disappointing. Ongoing concerns that the Fed will keep interest rates high for longer continue to weigh on the yieldless precious metal.

► The president of the Minneapolis Fed, Neel Kashkari, said on Sunday that it was a "reasonable prediction" that the Fed would cut interest rates once this year - possibly even as late as December. Kashkari's remarks come ahead of further comments from Fed officials later this week, as well as key data such as tomorrow's US retail sales, weekly jobless claims on Thursday and flash PMIs on Friday, which could show whether the US economy is showing further signs of a slowdown that would support price pressures.

► We are now seeing rising yields in pre-market US trading, which is a headwind for gold from a fundamental perspective.

► We continue to see robust USD demand - also supported by weakness in Europe - which is weighing on commodity prices. We see prices for industrial and precious metals significantly lower today (silver -1.1% / platinum -1.2% as well as copper -2% and steel -1.3%). Gold is currently trading 0.5% lower at $2,320. We expect further selling.

Wall Street closed mixed in the US, led by a decline in the industrials, materials and energy sectors. Only the strong performance of the growth sectors communications and technology helped the Nasdaq 100 to an all-time high (and ATH close), with Adobe up 15% on strong earnings and a good outlook. We have set a tight SL & TP for our Nasdaq position. The Stoxx Europe 600 slipped 1%. The French CAC 40 index extended its losses this week to over 6% (-2.66% today in regular trading), the most since March 2022. If European markets continue to weaken on Monday, we will see another weak pre-market US trading session. However, the strong performance towards the end of today is a strong confidence booster. I anticipate a positive week ahead for Wall Street, with investors easing their concerns about the Fed keeping rates high for too long. Easing concerns about an indecisive, hawkish Fed will also help bitcoin return to its recent upward momentum and benefit from weak US inflation data this week.

► While Wall Street is still robust two hours before the end of the week, we see strong signs of a flight to safety, be it through gains in bonds, gold or safe-haven currencies such as the USD and even the CHF and JPY, which are outperforming again.

► The FOMC's prediction that there will likely only be one rate cut this year (according to the dot-plot), which is less than the central bank's previous forecast, continues to cloud market sentiment, even after the recent very encouraging and Fed-friendly inflation data (it is important to note that the FOMC made its latest dot-plot update before knowing the latest US CPI and PPI data). In addition, major concerns over political stability in France / Europe in light of the early elections in France have led to sharp falls in European equities and pushed some investors (especially GBP and EUR holders) further into the USD.

► The strong USD is a headwind for Bitcoin. However, we expect the markets to become more optimistic about interest rate cuts in the coming week. This week's weak inflation data, which ultimately confirms the expectation of a loose monetary policy, gives Bitcoin fundamental tailwind.

► We buy here at the key level (near) $65K and can work with a TP. We are trading "small" - due to the volatility of Bitcoin, which is even more pronounced now. You can also just buy Bitcoin (unleveraged) - a good entry price.
