On Friday before the close, we made amazing trades in value stocks, with GM opening very strong - it's currently up more than 2%, which has driven our position deep into profit. We are locking in profits.

Wells Fargo also opened higher after Friday's sharp selloff (closing nearly 6% lower). Wells Fargo is now up more than 2.5%. We are also setting an in-profit SL. Perfect stock picking - congrats!

If you are still LONG in gold - set a TP ✅ at $2,420 ($2,418.89).

My time remains limited - but I will continue observe the markets - we see Wall Street at/near all-time highs despite more steep yield curve on bets that Trump would pursue a more expansive fiscal policy if he wins the November election. Tesla rallied as Elon Musk endorsed Trump.

❗️ European stocks slightly lower; Wall Street higher on rising expectations of Trump becoming President again after assassination attempt

► European stocks edged (Stoxx 600; -0.15%), led by significant declines in luxury stocks like Burberry Group, which slumped 8% after suspending its dividend. Weak economic growth figures from China further dragged down mining stocks. Additionally, Swatch Group experienced a notable dip after sales and profit plunged amid a China-led slowdown for Swiss watchmakers and other luxury companies.

► In the US, the USD strengthened and treasuries fell as investors increased bets on Donald Trump’s potential return to the White House following an attempted assassination. Trump was released from the hospital after being rushed off stage by the Secret Service at a rally in Pennsylvania, where shots fired grazed his ear last Sunday. US futures indicated a higher open on Wall Street, with S&P 500 futures trading 0.4% higher. Markets are closely monitoring Fed Chair Jerome Powell's upcoming speech (UTC+0 16:30) and additional economic reports this week for further guidance.

► Asian equities had a mixed performance. In China, stocks in Hong Kong extended losses due to weak Q2 economic data, with GDP growth falling short of expectations at 4.7%. However, industrial production exceeded forecasts with a 5.3% increase. The Shanghai Composite rose slightly by 0.1%. In Japan, markets were closed, but the JPY remained stable around 158/USD. Investors are anticipating the BOJ’s policy meeting later this month.

► In commodities, oil prices stabilized at $82.2/barrel, following their largest drop in nearly two weeks, as discussions on a potential cease-fire in the Middle East eased geopolitical tensions. Gold declined slightly (stabilizing at around $2,410/oz) but continued its upward trend, poised for a third consecutive monthly gain ahead of the Federal Reserve meeting. Metals (including gold) gained on hopes for stimulus following weak Chinese economic data. Bitcoin rebounded to above $62,000, reaching its highest in nearly two weeks.

► The S&P 500 and the Nasdaq 100 have experienced the strong recovery we expected and are set for another positive week - the Dow Jones even reached new all-time highs. However, the unloved small-cap stocks continued to outperform today. Small-cap stocks are the furthest behind their large-cap counterparts in 2024 than they have been since 1998 - the broadening of the market and the gains in the more cyclical small-cap stocks show that investors expect economic conditions to improve from here (thanks in part to the impending interest rate cuts) - positive signs.

► Meta remains underperforming today as it continues to be hit by EU allegations of targeted advertising. The social media giant introduced the so-called pay-or-consent model for European users of Facebook and Instagram last year to comply with EU rules on digital markets. On Monday, the European Commission, the EU's executive body, said this approach was not working, putting Meta under pressure in one of its key markets.

► However, I see the current slump as temporary. We still see Meta down 1.8% today, significantly underperforming the Nasdaq 100 (+1.2%) and other tech/mega caps.

► Our position hit the SL earlier. We are now / soon going LONG into Meta again near the range of our triggered SL $502.00 - $503.15*. Investment banks / analysts remain very optimistic for Meta.

A very strange day where the market digested today's very Fed-friendly US CPI data, but also saw heavy rotation out of tech mega caps - while other growth stocks / and risk-sensitive small caps did well today. An odd combination - driven largely by sentiment-driven profit-taking.

We also saw strong moves in JPY - we best set an in-profit SL for our EUR/JPY position / we can also work with a broader SL as we expect the JPY rally to fade in the coming sessions.

For our gold position, we can set a relatively tight in-profit TP. As gold has rallied strongly today on the back of a weaker USD and lower yields, we may close near $2,420. Fundamentally, however, gold remains strongly supported, especially as expectations for a Fed rate cut in September are now above 85%. We are also setting a TP for our AUD/USD position - even as the USD will likely weaken further in the coming sessions. Another day of very strong gold gains 📸

A quick recovery from today's overselling in the big tech stocks would support our LONG positions in Apple, Meta and the Nasdaq 100 (if you're still LONG). Our LLY position is again well in profit.

We see the Nasdaq near our SL at NYSE closing / in early after-hours trading. We now see increased spread in after-hours trading. Our position(s) are well off-profit but it makes sense to widen our SL here slightly and put it also slightly below session lows. We saw a very strong underperformance of big tech today (after the recent outperformance). Especially Nvidia (- 5.6%) and Tesla (- 8.5%!), but also the other big tech stocks were driving the Nasdaq 100 into deep red territory.

If you are not LONG at all - we actually see a good entry price here / but we are LONG enough in tech (Apple + Meta).

► We are seeing a volatile market today - with a strong rotation from Wall Street's recent tech high-flyers. Much cooler than expected US consumer price data also caused sharp movements on the currency markets - driven by the USD.

► However, the biggest swing by far was seen in the JPY. While some investors also see the USD/JPY plunge of around 2% as a reaction to the lowest US consumer price index in more than three years, it is more likely that the Japanese Ministry of Finance (MoF) used the surprising US CPI data to additionally intervene in the still historically very weak JPY.

► We see the JPY significantly stronger against all currencies - making it very unlikely that the move is mainly due to the US CPI data - even though it may have triggered some loss targets, leading to more sell orders.

► Although the outlook for the JPY is improving as Western central banks start to cut rates, the rate/yield differential remains wide. We are buying the ~300 pips dip in EUR/JPY (which was close to 400 pips at one point) - also in the expectation that the EUR can benefit from rising expectations of Fed rate cuts. We can enter the EUR/JPY in the 172.350 - 172.450 range.

► We are working with a relatively tight SL, as a possible additional intervention from the Japanese MoF could lead to further short-term price jumps in the JPY.

We could have benefited more from the strong rebound but it was correct to not overtrade a market that can move quickly/strongly on sentiment. We had excellent predictions on the market today but worked with too tight SLs causing some of our positions to close out early or off-profit (Nasdaq, AUD/USD) / less in profit then possible (LLY, S&P 500 - although great trades). Yesterday's Nasdaq 100 entry still hurts - but yesterday's big losses in big tech or rather rotation from mega-caps to small-caps was not foreseeable and also largely sentiment / then panic driven as today's strong rebound movements showed.

We can slightly tighten the TP for our still open gold position (optional). You can also work with a wider SL & TP as we continue to see gold fundamentally well supported.

We didn't have the greatest timing in the last two days but also set some good TPs such as our EUR/JPY 📸 and AAPL trades from yesterday or our gold trades from today. Our stocks picking at NYSE opening has also been excellent.

(VIP ONLY)shows solid financial performance, has a healthy balance sheet and is well positioned for future growth - including (VIP ONLY) - all music to the ears of (VIP ONLY) investors - but (VIP ONLY) remains unloved. We expect further share price gains in the coming sessions. (VIP ONLY) is a good medium/long-term buy simply due to its extremely cheap valuation. Too cheap to ignore.

► We are also buying the sharp dip in Wells Fargo's share price today - which I see as a buying opportunity (also in the medium/long term). Wells Fargo has beaten top & bottom line Q2 expectations. Although the bank issued weak guidance and showed some uncertainty about future net interest income - a key metric for banks - I believe the bank is well managed, well positioned and undervalued. We can buy Wells Fargo at almost 6% lower for the day. We are buying a 2/3 position as financials are somewhat unloved at the moment and we are likely to see mixed bank results next week.

► We use the typical slight profit taking before Friday closing and find an entry into (VIP ONLY) near 49.00 and Wells Fargo in the range 56.20 - 56.50.

We are seeing an almost V-shaped recovery (more of a U-shaped recovery), as investors were waiting for the PPI data - which was actually on the hot side but then got disregarded - very difficult to trade in a very sentiment driven / confused market. With a very hard to avoid PPI data trap, which we did not fall into 👍

We are locking in our profits with our S&P 500 position. If you are still LONG in the Nasdaq 100 - stay LONG - the recovery remains for now. Our analysis was spot on, especially after the PPI data - but our (my!) SL setting was not good - very "fear driven".

US PPI data caused some volatility in pre-market trading, but was digested without any major impact on market sentiment given yesterday's much cooler than expected US CPI data. We also see that the market reacted to bank earnings - which were solid overall from JPMorgan (record profit) and Citigroup. Wells Fargo slipped 5% after the banking giant said it was less successful than expected in cutting expenses. Yesterday saw a shift into risky small caps - an overall positive sign for Wall Street, even if it came at the expense of losses in the recently outperforming large technology stocks. We expect yesterday's strong rotation out of the tech sector to ease today and market sentiment to stabilize overall. Hopes of extensive interest rate cuts continue to support risk sentiment.


🔹 The S&P 500 (+0.15%) was already trying to rebound before PPI and seems to remain in recovery mode post PPI that did little to change the overall picture of the US economy and inflation outlook.

🔹 Apple (+ 0.3%) opens slightly higher also benefiting from yet another positive analyst call with Bernstein reiterating Apple as "outperform" and expecting a strong iPhone cycle.

🔹 Eli Lilly (+ 0.1%) opens little changed. Our position is well in profit. We can set a tight TP ✅ @: 937.97.

🔹 Meta (- 2.5%) opens lower and is underperforming other big tech peers. We can use the weak opening to improve our entry near - we may find an entry in the range 🔼 $491 - $495*. If you already hold a LONG position - don't overtrade - but we see an attractive entry price at NYSE opening.


► We buy the dip in JPMorgan. The largest US bank opens about 1.6 - 1.8% lower. We can buy the banking giant at 202.50 - 203.50*.

► JPMorgan reported a very robust second quarter, with earnings significantly beating analysts' expectations, although this was also due to gains related to Visa shares. The financial giant announced earnings per share of $4.40, which was $0.26 above the consensus estimate of $4.14. The company's net income totaled $18.1 billion, up an impressive 25% (which is very impressive for a bank, especially one of JPMorgan's size). However, the strong performance was supported by a $7.9 billion net gain on Visa stock and a $1.0 billion donation of Visa stock to pre-fund contributions to the company's foundation. Overall net revenues increased 20% to $51.0 billion. Excluding the gain from Visa, non-interest income was still up a very solid 14%, driven by higher fees in investment banking, wealth management and CIB Markets.

► JPMorgan also falls somewhat in line with other bank stocks and due to JPM's strong (deserved) outperformance in 2024 and the ongoing but easing rotation into small caps.

► PPI came in slightly hotter-than-expected (especially in the YoY view). We saw increased volatility which caused some of our SLs to be triggered. The surprising hot reading in the YoY reading caused some price jumps.

► The overall picture, however, is not changed - especially after yesterday's more important US CPI coming in significantly cooler-than-expected.

► We see yields almost unchanged with PPI rising 0.2% MoM still seeing as moderate producer price inflation that would not be a problem for Fed rate cuts. We overall see limited movements in all asset (post initial reaction). We can still trade a rebound here of stocks with also market in Europe and small cap stocks (risk-sensitive) performing well.

► We go into the S&P 500 near 5590 - which is a little less affected by big tech than the Nasdaq 100. Also bank earnings - while overall big banks trading lower - are not showing signs of slowing corporate earnings. JPMorgan reported earnings well above expectations.

► We see gold slipping to $2,400 - giving us a re-entry opportunity in the $2,397.50 - $2,400.00 range (if you improve your entry, please open a smaller position than your original entry). Gold is seeing some profit taking, reversing some of Thursday's positive move, which was triggered by the soft US CPI which also weighed on the USD. We see a slightly weaker, rather stagnant USD ahead of the upcoming PPI data, which will again trigger movements on the bond market (yields) and in the USD.

► Expectations for PPI are not quite as cool, mainly because core PPI for June YoY is expected to rise to 2.5%, up from 2.3% in May. The main focus will be on the monthly report, which is also expected to show a rise in producer prices - from -0.2% in May to 0.1% in June. Given the cool PPI report in May, a slightly higher MoM reading is likely, but the overall picture will show that producer prices are no longer a driver of inflation.

► Gold remains bullish in light of increased rate cut expectations. The swap market expects the Fed to cut interest rates for the first time in September - now at over 92% according to the CME FedWatch Tool.

► We are now also setting a tight SL - in case the PPI turns out to be higher than expected. In this case, gold will experience a dip (but still remain bullish). You can also work with a wider SL if your risk management allows it.

❗️ European equities continue to rise after cool US inflation data, gains in communications; Focus on earnings season

► European shares extended gains, driven primarily by the telecommunications sector following cooler-than-expected US inflation data and earnings from Ericsson, which surged over 6%. The Stoxx Europe 600 index rose 0.3%, despite mixed movements in the technology sector, with chipmakers such as ASML Holding and ASM International following their US counterparts lower. Additionally, inflation in Spain eased to 3.4% in June from 3.6% in May, aligning with expectations, while France saw its inflation rate drop to 2.2% from 2.3%, slightly better than anticipated.

► US stock futures remained stable after a significant tech-led selloff on Wall Street. The Nasdaq dropped 2.2% despite cooler-than-expected US inflation data bolstered the case for Federal Reserve interest rate cuts. The stark rotation out of the big tech sector is seen by some analysts as one of the strangest market reactions ever (according to SmartTrader chief analyst Robert Lindner, a short-term correction was long overdue after the recent non-fundamental-driven excess gains), especially since most of the market, including small-cap stocks, ended yesterday's trading day in the green. Treasury yields are steady today, with 10-year yields at 4.21% after yesterday's significant slide across the yield cure. The USD hovered near a five-week low after a substantial drop. Investors are now focused on upcoming earnings reports from major banks such as Citigroup, JPMorgan, and Wells Fargo, and producer price data (PPI) set for release later.

► Asian markets were mixed today. Japan's Nikkei index fell 2.45%, influenced by suspected intervention from Japanese authorities to support the JPY. Meanwhile, mainland Chinese stocks posted modest gains with the Shanghai Composite up 0.1%, buoyed by a record trade surplus and expectations of policy support. Hong Kong's Hang Seng index rose by 2.50%, driven by regulatory measures aimed at curbing aggressive market activities. Our EUR/USD has reached the TP (overnight - as planned). The S&P 500 saw the correction today that we expected yesterday - but I can't say I was even remotely expecting these moves today after the very positive US CPI data. It's an extremely strange day historically. The Russell 2000 small-cap index, which is made up of companies outside the S&P 500 (risk/yield sensitive), has been struggling to find its footing all year and longer, but is up more than 3%(!) today - at the same time all the stocks in the so-called "Magnificent 7" as well as other big tech as well as chip stocks are down significantly - including a more than 5% drop in Nvidia and more than 8% in Tesla. Extremely strong diametrically different movement (also within the growth sector) - with the sharp correction in isolated in big tech - weighing on the S&P 500 (and of course the Nasdaq 100) today. Other international indices also benefited from the soft US CPI data. We could see a V-shaped recovery tomorrow - although today's heavy profit-taking could lead to further panic profit-taking tomorrow.

► I see many of you got back into Eli Lilly LONG earlier - we are generally seeing signs of the market calming down after a sharp (well overdue) selloff in the big tech stocks (which we were actually expecting yesterday), which also pushed the Nasdaq 100 & S&P 500 lower - even though most stocks in New York are in the green. We now see Eli Lilly back near $930 and get back in and expect further gains and new ATHs in the coming sessions.

► If you are not yet LONG in Eli Lilly - we continue to expect the pharma giant to stay in its upward channel and continue to benefit from investment banks (like Morgan Stanley today / Barclays yesterday) raising their price targets for the already world's most valuable pharma company.

► Eli Lilly's excellent and extremely high-margin products (especially the weight loss drug Mounjaro/Zepbound), which appears to be more effective than Novo Nordisk's Ozempic/Wegovy. Analysts expect Eli Lilly's Zepbound sales to significantly exceed expectations - demand is massive, especially in the US.

► Meanwhile, there are signs of a V-shaped recovery in the tech sector - the Nasdaq 100 is trying to rise above 20300 and the big tech losers are also seeing dip buying. ► Although yields fell across the curve and the USD weakened in the process - which would normally see more money flow into riskier stocks (such as tech/growth stocks) - we saw a rotation away from the recent tech/AI high-flyers and into other sectors.

► However, the much cooler than expected US CPI data - while positive for rate cut expectations - also triggered concerns, at least in the short term, that the US economy is slowing faster than expected, which could ultimately also lead to slower growth in corporate profits and consumer spending.

► We see a long overdue correction - but one that is likely to be short-lived, especially as expectations of interest rate cuts have now risen further, supporting growth stocks - including Meta.

► The Nasdaq 100 is now almost 2% lower - I no longer see any major downside potential here (for today). Big Tech is even underperforming. We are buying the sharp drop in Meta below $515 here - Meta is now trading almost 5% below this week's highs.

► As we are already LONG in Apple and the Nasdaq 100, we are trading Meta a little smaller than usual.

► Meta also enjoyed very good analyst calls. Today, for example, "BUY" from TD Cowen with PT increase to $600 (from $530). Yesterday Goldman Sachs "BUY" with PT $522 (from $500). On Monday Wells Fargo, with "OVERWEIGHT" and PT $625 (from $593).
