SELL NOW ๐ฝ DAX (GER_40) ๐ฉ๐ช
โบ We see a deeply concerned market as earnings reports continue to disappoint - even worse in Europe than in the US. There are also major concerns about whether the AI rally that has led Wall Street higher over the past almost two years has gone too far - as the massive investment has not (so far) delivered the accelerated sales growth that was hoped for.
โบ We see weakness in corporate earnings across all sectors. The luxury sector is seeing a dramatic decline in sales - especially in China - and could be an indicator of further headwinds from falling Chinese demand. The French CAC40, which is very luxury-heavy, has now turned negative for 2024. Kering, the owner of Gucci, warned today that profits will slump in the second half of the year as demand for luxury goods cools.
โบ Stellantis and Ford reported a dramatic fall in sales and profits. Auto giant Stellantis, which also owns the Jeep and Dodge brands, reported a net profit of โฌ5.6 billion for the first half of the year, a 48% drop from the same period in 2023. Ford's stock is losing more than double digits after its earnings report and continues to make billions in losses on electric cars. Tesla, the electric car pioneer, reported another disappointing quarter with declining automotive sales (-7% YoY), while margins also continued to fall.
โบ We SHORT the small rebound of the DAX here (we expect more resistance near/above 18200). The DAX, which is very dependent on the automotive sector and Chinese/global economic developments, as well as seeing headwinds in the technology sector (German chipmaker Infineon is down almost 7%) and industrials, offers little reason to re-enter. Sentiment data from the German economy was worse than expected. Deutsche Bank reported a disappointing quarter yesterday, further weighing on financials - Commerzbank fell more than 3% and Deutsche Bank also extended yesterday's heavy losses.

STAY LONG / BUY NOW ๐ผ Gold (XAU/USD)๐ฅ
โบ The gold price fell by 1% during Asian trading as gold investors also became cautious ahead of the important US economic data and yesterday's technical pullback extended further. We are seeing a strange combination: the selloff in equity markets continued (not so surprising), yields are falling, the USD is falling, but precious metals are also lower. Investors are generally pulling their money out of the markets ahead of today's US GDP growth data and tomorrow's US PCE data.
โบ Recent weaker US economic data has strengthened the case for rate cuts and is also likely to contribute to a further cooling of inflation.
โบ Your gold position may have already reached your SL with the almost 2% fall in the gold price. We are buying gold now expecting support near $2,370 - $2,372.50. Gold should benefit from the increased demand for safe havens, but also from the weaker USD and lower yields.

โ๏ธ Global equities continue to sell off; European companies show more weakness
โบ European stocks tumbled, led by a selloff in tech, but also with broad losses. The Stoxx 600 index dropped over 1%, extending the previous sessionโs losses from Wall Street. Major players like Nestle, Stellantis, and Kering reported earnings (or forecasts) that fell short of expectations, contributing to the decline. French stocks edged close to a 10% correction, influenced by the decreased demand (especially from China) in the luxury goods sector. Market participants are closely monitoring US GDP and initial jobless claims data due later today.
โบ US stock index futures declined further after the S&P 500's 2.3% slump on Wednesday which also snapped the longest streak without a 2% drop since 2007 - 356 sessions (!). The tech sector faced significant losses after very sharp losses and again disappointing earnings from Tesla. Also Alphabet saw selling despite a strong Q2 report. Other big tech companies fell in sympathy - also with an apparent reassessment on the cost and benefit calculus for the artificial intelligence ecosystem. On the other hand, IBM shares rose more than 4% after reporting second-quarter results that exceeded expectations, with a 1.9% revenue increase and an optimistic full-year free cash flow forecast. Treasury yields on two-year notes dropped to 4.35% amid growing expectations for rate cuts. Investors are looking ahead to next weekโs Federal Reserve meeting and crucial economic data for further clues on the economic outlook (today US GDP growth data - due at 12:30 UTC+0).
โบ Asian equities fell sharply, with the MSCI Asia Pacific Index experiencing its steepest decline in over three months. Japan's Nikkei 225 headed towards a technical correction, and South Korea's benchmark index lost nearly 2%, despite SK Hynix posting an earnings beat. The JPY continued its rally against peers, strengthening by 1.1%, as expectations build for a potential rate hike by the Bank of Japan next week. China's markets also faced pressure despite a surprise rate cut by the People's Bank of China. The PBOC cut its medium-term lending facility rate to 2.3% from 2.5% and conducted seven-day reverse repo operations at 1.7% to support the slowing economy, aiming to enhance lending and stimulate growth.
โบ Oil prices fell to around $76.5/barrel, joining a broader retreat in commodities, as a sluggish economic outlook for China overshadowed lower US stockpiles. Gold extended its losses from Wednesday to the surprise of analysts, dropping to below $2,375/oz reflecting a cautious sentiment among investors ahead of the PCE Price index release tomorrow and Federal Reserve's policy meeting next week. The fall in the gold price is surprising as we are also seeing lower yields and a weaker USD today. Gold also fell in sympathy with other commodity prices. Gold demand from Asia remains somewhat subdued. Bitcoin fell below $63,500.

We wanted to stay LONG in the JPY. I went in a bit lower than wanted. But either way, the strong JPY buying continued. If you have a SHORT position - set now an in-profit SL. We continue to expect the JPY to remain in demand - now also as safe haven. The EUR continues to see selling - especially after signs of a potential returning slowdown of the European economy (which is hit harder from the Chinese slowdown than the US economy).
Additional profit taking in New York further supported the JPY. We expect the EUR/JPY to soon also test/likely break the 166.000.

โบ We see slight further selling in Alphabet - with Alphabet now 5.5% lower. We enter here / soon and see the selling as clearly overdone.
โบ We can enter here near ~$172.00 and expect rising support towards $170.00. The sell-off is a misreaction with investors/analysts not understanding Alphabet's earnings report.
โบ As Alphabet is very volatile, we are trading a slightly smaller position.
โบ We now see Alphabet at the same level as after the strong rise following the last earnings report (in April). Since then, however, Alphabet has continued to deliver. Alphabet's sharp selling and additional losses make fundamentally little sense.

Our profits with the JPY (LONG) // EUR (SHORT) are absolutely out of this world. Our EUR/JPY position has reached the TP - more than 160 pips profit. The JPY is experiencing a very strong rebound - after the currency was extremely cheap after the recent heavy losses.
The market expects Western central banks to cut rates steadily in the coming months, which will lead to a narrowing of the interest rate gap between the BoJ and other major central banks (as well as the yield gap).
Today's weak European economic data combined with concerns about signs of weakness in upcoming earnings reports are raising expectations that the ECB, Fed and co. will cut rates further. China already cut interest rates in a surprise move earlier this week.
We are working with a pending order following the sharp fall in EUR/JPY - and will soon enter the pair SHORT again

โ๏ธ Disappointing earnings from Tesla, LVMH and Deutsche Bank weigh on global stock markets
โบ European stock futures fell as investors processed key earnings reports from major companies and another round of disappointing PMI data. Deutsche Bank reported its first quarterly loss in four years due to slowed trading and a charge related to its Postbank retail unit. In contrast, BNP Paribas saw its profit rise in the second quarter thanks to increased equities trading revenue. The HCOB Germany Composite PMI fell to 48.7 in July, signaling contraction, while France's composite PMI rose to 49.5, indicating a modest recovery led by the services sector. However, the French stock market came under pressure from sharp losses in the luxury sector as LVMH fell 5% after sales in China plummeted during the quarter, adding evidence that the Chinese economic slowdown is hurting European companies.
โบ U.S. stock futures declined following mixed earnings reports from Tesla and Alphabet. Tesla's stock is trading 7% lower in pre-market trading after missing profit estimates and delaying its Robotaxi event. Despite Tesla's significant growth in energy storage revenue, the company faces increased competition in China and Europe, leading to a cautious outlook. Alphabet's shares also retreated (-2.5%) as the company indicated that patience is needed to see returns from its AI investments. However, Alphabet reported a 14% increase in revenue year-over-year, driven by strong performance in Google Search and Cloud services, showing resilience in its core business and ongoing impressive revenue growth. In addition to this, Visaโs fiscal Q3 results were mixed with earnings meeting expectations but revenue falling short, while growth slowed in key metrics; however, the company expects continued growth in EPS, net revenue, and operating expenses for Q4. We see the earnings season continue with reports from tech giants Qualcomm and IBM due after market hours. Bank of Canada is expected to cut rates by 25bp later today.
โบ Asian shares fell in response to disappointing earnings reports from the U.S. and Europe and mixed PMI data. Japanโs Nikkei 225 dropped 1.11% to its lowest level in almost a month as manufacturing activity contracted unexpectedly, despite strong services sector growth. The JPY strengthened past 155 per USD ahead of next week's Bank of Japan meeting. China's Shanghai Composite slid 0.5%, hitting a five-month low, as recent stimulus measures failed to boost market confidence. Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index fell by 1.13%, and Indiaโs Sensex declined by 0.72% amid ongoing concerns over tax impacts on financial instruments. The HSBC India Manufacturing PMI rose to 58.5, showing a significant sector improvement, while services PMI increased to 61.1. The mixed data from Asia reflects underlying economic challenges but also notes the significant improvement in India's manufacturing sector, which could be a positive signal for regional growth.
โบ Oil prices remained steady at around $77.3/barrel, after reports indicated (again) a decline in U.S. crude inventories for the fourth consecutive week. Gold prices gained slightly to around $2,410/oz, as investors awaited key U.S. economic data expected to support the case for interest-rate cuts.

โบ We are positioning LONG in the S&P 500 in after-hours trading following earnings reports from Texas Instruments (solid earnings growth), Alphabet (ahead of expectations, only YouTube is lagging) and Tesla (another miss, although Tesla fell only slightly for now as investors await comments from Musk - but we expect further losses after recent strong gains).
โบ Alphabet, the most important earnings report so far (and also today), reported another positive earnings report. $1.89 EPS vs. $1.84 EPS expected, total revenue $84.74bn vs. $84.19bn expected (significant increase). Cloud revenue grew faster than expected and exceeded $10bn for the first time ($10.35bn vs. $10.20bn expected). Only YouTube was slightly below expectations. We see Alphabet little changed - but the overall solid quarter will raise expectations that the other big tech stocks can also deliver.
โบWe buy the S&P 500 here - taking advantage of some profit taking before NYSE close and due to the fact that Tesla is currently trading 4-5% lower. we can buy in the 5554 - 5558* range.

Our Alphabet position is in profit. You can partially close your position ahead of Alphabet's earnings report to reduce the risk of being negatively impacted by a short-term price drop. As investment banks and analysts are largely very positive on GOOGL - many are reiterating their "BUY" ratings and raising price targets - actual expectations are probably higher than the numbers suggest. It is therefore quite possible that Alphabet will not report growth as strong as expected, especially in advertising revenue (due to generally high expectations). However, I expect a strong earnings report with strong revenue growth of Google Search and YouTube (= ad revenue) and stable (still very fast) revenue growth at Cloud.
GM saw further selling despite a very good earnings report and improved guidance. GM is still extremely cheap, especially considering the recent improvements in metrics. I see most of you have a much better entry price - we are setting an SL and a wide TP. GM is a very good BUY in the medium to long term at current prices.

We are once again securing almost unreal overnight gains with the EUR/JPY. We have found the perfect entry point and see our position 175 (!!!) pips in profit as the JPY extended its recent strong gains on weak economic data (today including weak German business confidence data) keeping rate cut expectations high.
We set an SL (150 (!) pips in profit) and our TP below 165,000 or more than 200 pips in profit. A rarely astonishing movement after already strong gains of the JPY (and the still weakening EUR).
Congratulations - the current rebound of the JPY is historic in its strength - we will continue to take full advantage of it.

Huge gains continue in Forex (especially with the JPY / we remain LONG in JPY). We made nice gold trades but then got hit by a pretty sharp technical pullback, exacerbated by rising yields. Equities were an incredible minefield today, which we mostly avoided, although GM (possibly GOOGL too) was hit by heavy profit taking. We traded the rebound in Alphabet well after heavy losses (we are still LONG in GOOGL). We may set a tight SL on our S&P 500 position or keep it a bit wider (if you're still in). We continue to see very nervous markets. Solid earnings reports from IBM, ServiceNow and Chipotle have improved sentiment somewhat after-hours. Ford, on the other hand, fell sharply after reporting poor profitability last quarter due to high warranty costs that have plagued the automaker for several years.

โบ We see markets in correction after the recent strong movements. Stocks in particular fluctuated sharply today - but primarily losses (with a few exceptions, such as Cisco (+ 1.0%), with the big tech companies again experiencing a sharp sell-off, which caused the S&P 500 to fall by 2% (the Nasdaq 100 even by 3.4%).
โบ Gold also corrected after earlier significant gains. Bonds were increasingly in demand as safe havens, with the result that yields also corrected (rose). The JPY corrected after very strong gains - but remains well up today. The USD, on the other hand, is little changed and probably closes the day slightly down (DXY -0.04%) - a sign that the USD is losing some of its dominance as a safe haven in view of rising expectations of interest rate cuts.
โบ As expected, the Bank of Canada cut interest rates again, which is a further indication of an easing of monetary policy by Western central banks. The weak performance of equities (today / this month) and the weakening economic data continue to argue in favor of interest rate cuts.
โบ We remain LONG in JPY and again SHORT in EUR/JPY. We are taking advantage of the rebound after the pair almost reached 166,000. We can find an entry point in the 166,900 - 166,990 range.
โบ There was also a correction in gold after the precious metal reached its highest level this week. We expect gold to find increasing support near / below $2,400 and remain LONG / possibly improve our entry or re-enter.

โบ We expect gold to break through $2,430 again and then possibly slowly find support at this key level as stagflation/recession concerns continue to be a boost for gold.
โบ Our fourth entry into gold (today) is still below the (triggered) TPs of our last two gold trades. It is a good re-entry, even if gold may see a little more profit-taking in the short term.

Our timing with gold is very good. Congratulations!
We continue to see gold in recover mode with concerns rising that the global economy will experience a sharper slowdown. Also the German economy is back in shrinking mode after getting (not really) out of it four months ago. The weak Chinese economy, the world's second largest economy, weighs also on corporate earnings of Western / especially European companies.
The only positive aspect - the slowing growth / weak economy increases the chance for more support / easing of central banks.
This is all good for gold.
I set an in-profit SL here (but would get back in at a lower price again). You can also work with a wider SL.
โ ๏ธ update - this update is a bit delayed (non-delayed updates in VIP channel). The TP already triggered. You can also set a wider TP near $2,429.90. We get back into gold next dip.

Stocks, including on Wall Street, fell on the back of weak results from Tesla, LVMH and Deutsche Bank, which also increased concerns about the state of the global economy as earnings season enters the hot phase. The weakness of the Chinese economy is also having an impact on corporate earnings in Europe.
๐น S&P 500 (- 0.6%) we see broad losses in New York after the recent gains. We expect Wall Street to stabilize.
๐ธ Alphabet (- 3.8%) opens lower (if you still have a small position open). Despite Alphabet's positive earnings report, investors are also selling Alphabet because they fear a slowdown - even though Alphabet has beaten expectations in almost all business areas, with the exception of YouTube's advertising revenue. There could be more selling in the short term, but Alphabet's positive numbers and the potential additional revenue from AI integration continue to make Alphabet attractive. Some investors are concerned that Alphabet's massive investment in AI will eat into profit margins in the coming quarters.
๐น Cisco (+0.3%) opens slightly higher - as one of the few stocks in the Nasdaq 100. Cisco remains very favorably valued.
๐น GM (- 1.4%) opens lower after suffering heavy losses yesterday. The downgrade of GM by Morgan Stanley due to generally more difficult fundamental data in the automotive sector is weighing on GM. The Michigan automaker remains very cheap and a strong medium to long-term investment, but could see further selling in the near term. We have a tight SL which is likely to trigger the following
โบ We will see volatile markets which will likely lead to additional selling initially. It is therefore better to let the phase of increased volatility subside first, which could lead to short-term, more sentiment-driven losses. The lower opening of Tesla and Alphabet (despite Alphabet's strong earnings report) will also weigh on other major tech stocks.
โบ We are only buying the dip in gold (again), with gold falling back below $2,415 in the short term. We are getting in HERE and expect gold to stay in recovery mode. A great opportunity to buy the dip.

โบ We buy the small dip in gold and expect support at $2,410, after the precious metal had previously encountered resistance in the $2,419 - $2,420 range. We have recently seen healthier recovery gains and fewer signs of sentiment-driven profit-taking.
โบ We see strong expectations of interest rate cuts by Western central banks, which is also reflected in the strong rise of the JPY (although the JPY is also benefiting from expectations of a normalization of monetary policy by the Bank of Japan).
โบ Weak economic data from Europe and ahead of key US economic data, mixed earnings reports from Europe and the US and a likely further rate cut by a major Western central bank later today (BoC) are providing additional tailwinds.
โบ Concerns about a slowing global economy are adding to worries about stagflation or a global economy that will weaken further as central banks could keep interest rates too high for too long.
โบ After the USD's recent gains, further short-term gains are increasingly limited. We also see stable US yields and a slightly weaker USD.

Sorry for the late post - I was in a quick call. Your Rob ๐
โ๏ธ Alphabet delivered another strong report, beating optimistic expectations.
Alphabet's revenue rose 14% y-o-y, driven by strong revenue from Google Search and Alphabet's cloud services, which posted quarterly revenue of more than $10 billion and operating profit of $1 billion for the first time. Google's parent company also reported strong growth in advertising revenue, which rose sharply to $64.62 billion compared to $58.14 billion in Q2/2023. This shows that Google's advertising business continues to grow after rising inflation and interest rates cut marketing budgets in 2022 and 2023. Only YouTube's revenue fell slightly short of expectations at $8.66 billion compared to $8.93 billion, but was still well above the 7.66 billion of the same quarter last year. YouTube's main competitors remain Instagram and TikTok.
EPS: $1.89 vs. $1.84 expected
Total Revenue: $84.74 billion vs. $84.19 billion expected
Google advertising revenue (total): $64.62 billion vs. $64.51 billion expected
YouTube advertising revenue: $8.66 billion vs. $8.93 billion expected
Google Cloud revenue: $10.35 billion vs. $10.20 billion expected
Alphabet is currently up around 2% (this may change). Our position is deep in profit.
