After heavy selling - down more than 20% since the July 15 peak and increased investor selling following yesterday's Novo Nordisk earnings report ... Eli Lilly has exceeded expectations gigantically.

Earnings per share: $3.92 adjusted vs. $2.60 expected ❗️
Revenue: $11.30 billion vs. $9.92 billion expected ❗️

Eli Lilly reported second-quarter earnings and revenue that massively beat analysts' expectations and even raised its full-year revenue forecast by $3 billion as sales of its blockbuster diabetes drug Mounjaro and weight-loss injection Zepbound continued to soar

Eli Lilly shares are up more than 10% in pre-market trading - which will lead to a gigantic payout to our community.

The world's most valuable drugmaker now expects full-year adjusted earnings of $16.10 - $16.60, up from its previous guidance of $13.50 - $14.00 per share. Lilly also expects full-year sales to be between $45.4 billion - $46.6 billion, an increase of $3 billion at either end of the range.

It could very well be (one would actually have to assume) that we will see even stronger increases, because Eli Lilly really has massively exceeded expectations and significantly increased its sales forecast. Plus investors / traders around the world have sold Eli Lilly in recent days - we did the opposite.

⚠️ High risk - Eli Lilly releases its earnings tomorrow (before NYSE opening)!

► We are buying a small position in Eli Lilly ahead of tomorrow's earnings report. We see Eli Lilly down 3% ahead of the NYSE closing, or more than 16% lower over the past 30 days, as concerns grow that increasing competition in the antidiabetic, antiadiposita (weight loss drug) space will increase pricing pressure and reduce Eli Lilly's near-monopoly-like profits (which the company has been able to achieve alongside Novo Nordisk).

► Novo Nordisk fell 8% today after the company shocked investors when its latest results fell short of Wall Street expectations. Europe's most valuable company also lowered its operating profit growth forecast for the current year 2024.

► However, I don't expect the same (poor) results tomorrow and especially not the same guidance from Eli Lilly as Wegovy (from Novo Nordisk) is priced much higher than Zepbound (from Eli Lilly).

► I therefore do not believe that Eli Lilly will have to offer such high discounts as Novo Nordisk for its weight loss drug or that it will have to massively reduce prices.

► We assume that Eli Lilly has been able to further increase production, which will help Eli Lilly to remain optimistic. Lilly's diabetes drug Mounjaro saw volume growth of 14% from the first to the second quarter, while Zepbound sales increased by 59% in the same period - I think the massive growth at Eli Lilly will continue.

►This is obviously a very risky trade, but Eli Lilly has already been punished by Novo Nordisk's earnings report today and has fallen sharply over the last ~30 days (from a high of $966 - that's a drop of more than 20% to our entry price of now below $770 now).

► The Nasdaq continued to fall - and yields continued to rise - as the sale of $42bn worth of 10-year US Treasuries was weak and came under additional pressure as 17 high-grade issuers also rushed to sell bonds on the busiest day since February. The biggest among them was Meta Platforms, which threw a massive $10.5bn of bonds on the market.

► If all of Meta's bonds are bought, it would be the largest sale of high-grade bonds in history. This is a clear sign that Meta is not slowing down investments in AI and instead likely to increase it's massive investments in AI over the next few years. Meta has fallen by more than 1%, which is also weighing on the Nasdaq 100, but the latter is being hit hardest by the losses of chip giants Nvidia and Broadcom as well as Tesla.

► We are now setting a tight SL and buying (smaller position if you are still LONG) in the 17900- 17930* range - we see signs that yields are stabilizing again (and even eroding gains, as US 10yr bond yields have fallen from almost +8bps to +5bps), although the very weak bond auction points to continued weakness in bonds - especially as there is now a huge amount of bonds on the market for sale (government + corporate).

⚠️ The fundamental analysis of our Nasdaq Re-Entry (at 17920). However, we now see yields rising further - which is why headwinds on the Nasdaq 100 remains despite oversold conditions and signs of returning dip buying in some of the stocks (including Meta).

► The Nasdaq 100 has lost most of its gains from today and has now fallen below 18200 (update = even down to 18056) - where we are getting back in. We are seeing some profit-taking after strong gains - Nvidia and Tesla are particularly affected, but also Meta. Apple, on the other hand, made further gains.

► We also see yields continuing to rise - although this is normally a headwind for growth stocks, it shows that investors are continuing to reduce safe-haven buying (which is also reflected in the now lower gold price) - that's a good sign for risk sentiment.

► We are getting back in (LONG) here and overall continue to see a market that is continuing the current upswing. After the heavy losses on Thursday-Monday, equities still have considerable scope for a rebound (even if only in the short term). Above all, the significantly reduced concern about crashing shares in Japan is helping to significantly reduce the panic mood.

🔹 The Nasdaq 100 (+1.6%) rose significantly after yesterday's gains. There was profit-taking shortly before the close yesterday, which is why the Nasdaq is currently only trading near yesterday's highs and is trying to break through resistance above 18350.


► Uber is one of the largest positions in my long-term portfolio as I believe investors are underestimating Uber's growth potential and, more importantly, undervaluing the fact that Uber is also sharply increasing profitability and has become very profitable after years of operating losses. Uber rose almost 11% yesterday and opens today almost unchanged (currently +0.4% and close to $65.00*) - underperforming Wall Street (S&P 500) today (so far). Poor figures from the leading competitor (in the US) Lyft are weighing on pre-market trading. However, UBER's metrics are quite different and the ride-hailing platform is experiencing much greater growth and has more growth potential (thanks to its strong international position). Most importantly, Uber is experiencing very rapid growth in monthly active platform users (MAPCs). Uber reached 156 million MAPCs in the second quarter, who booked 2.77 billion rides. This is more than in the same period a year ago, when 137 million MAPCs with 2.28 billion journeys were booked. These growth rates are very impressive.

► Apple has significantly underperformed the big tech stocks in recent sessions (down almost 1% yesterday), which is seen more as a defensive (tech) stock and because of concerns about slowing sales in China. However, Apple reported strong earnings and especially very healthy growth in its high-margin Apple Services division, which I see as a key revenue driver for Apple going forward (especially with the upcoming AI features). Both Apple Services and App Store sales (which will likely also benefit from Apple Intelligence) continue to grow rapidly. According to the latest earnings report, services are up 14% year-over-year. Data from Sensor Tower shows that global App Store sales were up 11% year-over-year in July. Apple managed to further increase its already strong gross margin to 46.3% (which was also above expectations). Apple opens almost unchanged / slightly negative - we can buy Apple in the 206.00 - 207.00** range and expect a clearly positive performance today.

❗️ Global stocks rebound; JPY drops as Bank of Japan says no rate hikes in an unstable market

► The Stoxx Europe 600 index rose by more than 1% as investors reacted to earnings reports, economic data and yesterday's strong Wall Street rebound. Novo Nordisk shares fell more than 2% after lowering its profit forecast due to underwhelming sales of its weight-loss drug, Wegovy. Other notable declines included Commerzbank, Puma, and Beiersdorf following earnings misses. In positive economic news, France's trade deficit narrowed to €6.1 billion in June, down from May's €7.7 billion, driven by a rise in exports and a slight fall in imports. On the other hand, Germany recorded a trade surplus of €20.4 billion in June, though below consensus estimates, with exports down significantly at -3.4% and imports up 0.3%. Overall, however, after sharp losses in recent days, market sentiment has significantly improved.

► Futures on the S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100 both rose over 1% after a strong rebound on Tuesday, where the indexes surged due to strong dip-buying after the recent (global) stock market crash. Investors are closely watching the Federal Reserve's upcoming decisions and assessing corporate earnings. Treasury yields ticked higher, and the DXY (USD index) rose for the second consecutive day. However, it's important to still acknowledge the recent turmoil and the still elevated volatility which acts as a reminder that things can change quickly.

► Asian stocks rallied, led by Japanese equities, as the Bank of Japan reassured markets with a commitment not to hike interest rates amidst instability. The Nikkei 225 index rose over 2%, building on significant gains from Tuesday. Corporate highlights include Honda’s positive Q1 results and Sony's raised full-year guidance. The JPY weakened by more than 2% against the USD following dovish comments from BOJ Deputy Governor Shinichi Uchida. China's trade surplus was smaller than expected in July, with exports disappointing but imports growing more than anticipated, while tech heavy Hong Kong's stocks surged by 1.3%.

► Oil prices rose slightly to $73.5/barrel (spot), after experiencing the biggest drop in nearly two weeks, influenced by discussions of a potential cease-fire in the Middle East and more importantly the recent heavy losses in the stock market that were sparked by concerns of a slowing global economy and a Fed that is late in cutting rates. Gold held steady at $2,395/oz as investors continue to like gold in this current conditions and despite some short-term headwinds due to a rebound in US Treasury yields.

Wall Street saw an unexpectedly strong upswing (not for us - we traded this with great precision today). The S&P 500 recorded its strongest daily gain since February (+ 2.0 %; current). 🔹 Eli Lilly (+13.3%) is the only stock we hold, and it is by far the best performing stock in the S&P 500 today. Eli Lilly opens in the 870 - 877 range and should continue to rise - but possibly only with some profit-taking in view of the massive rise. We can work with a tight SL 🔑 @: 857.30 and a wide TP ✅ @: 893.90. If our tight SL is triggered, we could find a better re-entry at 835, but should look at the early action in Eli Lilly as the stock has been sold off heavily recently (for the wrong reasons). ► We see Wall Street trading in positive territory after a negative previous session. We are taking advantage of the NYSE opening volatility and buying the S&P 500 in the 5225 - 5245 area. Today's initial jobless claims data was near ideal - showing a continued rise in initial jobless claims, indicating a slow cooling of the labor market, while actual initial jobless claims (for the previous week) came in lower than expected, easing fears of a very rapid decline in the US economy. In New York, we are seeing broad gains, with tech stocks (which took heavier losses yesterday) gaining more for now - but it is likely that some of the gains in tech stocks will extend. Eli Lilly and other drugmakers could also have a positive impact on the S&P 500.

► We are also buying the sharp drop in Nvidia - which fell more than 5.1% yesterday and opens today near the key $100 level ($100 - $101) - we go LONG in that range. Nvidia obviously has more room for "panic selling", but we currently see the leading AI chipmaker down nearly 40% from its peak. We expect dip buying to win out in early NYSE trading and be a solid day overall for US stocks. Much of the losses in the big tech/growth stocks are due to concerns about a rapid decline in consumer demand, slow global/US economic growth, concerns about high valuations and slowing corporate sales. We have seen mostly positive earnings reports today and today's US jobless claims data confirms that the Fed should cut rates, but it does not suggest that the US economy is sliding into recession.

❗️ Global equities remain under pressure; Focus turns to US labor market data after recent weak figures

► European equities extended their losses as the Stoxx 600 index fell over 1%, driven by declines in technology and mining stocks, erasing much of yesterday's gains. The market remains volatile and investor sentiment is being weighed down by uncertainty over central bank policy and weak economic data. Shares in Siemens fell 0.7% after the company forecast weaker growth, while Zurich Insurance Group fell almost 3% due to increased losses in its property and casualty division. In contrast, Allianz (+2.5%) reported a rise in profits and Deliveroo and Entain reported robust results. Bond yields in Germany and the UK fell slightly, reflecting cautious market sentiment.

► US equity futures continued to fall following overnight losses on Wall Street as markets continue to react to weak economic data, particularly labor market data such as last week's disappointing payroll figures. Weak demand for the sale of $42 billion worth of 10-year Treasuries caused yields to rise yesterday and also created a headwind for equities. The focus is on today's jobless claims data, which could provide further insight into the state of the labor market. Investors are also keeping an eye on the Fed's potential interest rate decisions, as they fear that persistently high interest rates could trigger a deeper economic downturn. The yield on 10-year US Treasuries is little changed at 3.915% as markets await further economic data. Gold prices rose to around $2,395/oz, responding to the fall in yields and continuing to find buyers below $2,400.

► We also see oil (and natural gas) prices well above recent lows and more than 4% above today's lows during early Asian trading.

► We still see oil in a bearish sentiment and sell WTI here range $74.20 - 74.40 (spot price; ~$74.80+ Sep' Contract), with also facing some headwinds from a rebound in the USD (DXY up more than 0.25% today after gains yesterday), higher yields and slightly reduced expectations for emergency cuts from the Fed.

► Oil also benefits from current geopolitical tensions in the Middle East with high concerns of new wave of attacks by Iran and its allies following Israel's last week’s killing of senior members of militant groups Hamas and Hezbollah.

► Supporting the bearish demand view, Chinese trade data showed that July daily crude oil imports fell to the lowest level since September 2022. China and Europe's economies continue to struggle and show signs of slowdown or slow growth.

► U.S. data also showed a build in crude oil and gasoline inventories after mostly falling inventories in recent weeks - signs of more supply than demand in the US at the moment. The EIA reports crude / gasoline stocks change later today - I expect signs that stocks are stabilizing again potentially start to rise again (after weeks of falling).

► Similar to the previous two days, we expect some buying in early US trading. We now saw slight headwinds from rather poor earnings reports overall - like from Airbnb, Super Micro Computer, Lyft, Novo Nordisk (🇩🇰) etc. Shopify, on the other hand, is up almost 18% (good for my long-term portfolio).

► The Nasdaq was unable to reach yesterday's highs in pre-market trading and encountered resistance at ~18350.

► We expect further buying after the sharp losses from Thursday to Monday and see prices rising sharply, especially in Japan, as the Bank of Japan has allayed fears of further rate hikes by saying that the BoJ will not raise rates again as long as the markets are unstable (as we have seen in recent days). The Nikkei has risen by 5.5% - other indices in Asia have also performed well. The technology-heavy Hang Seng closed 1.4% higher. European indices are also clearly rebounding despite rather weak economic data - this is all tailwinds for New York.

► We expect the Nasdaq to rise above yesterday's highs to the 18400 - 18500 range. We therefore take the mini dip and re-enter the Nasdaq range 18250 - 18290.

In the five-week period from June 25 to July 30, we are again at 80% success rate - which is absolutely impressive considering the strong change in sentiment and direction in July - congratulations.

Our EUR/USD hit our well-placed TP today - completing yet another 100% day! It's our 14th consecutive successful forex trade - absolutely incredible given the wild swings in the forex markets over the last few weeks. We are currently trading all assets with arguably unbeaten precision.

The market has now run very hot - which is why it makes more sense to observe whether Asia can also follow suit tomorrow instead of possibly chasing the markets here. However, there is still room for Wall Street to move higher (also for Bitcoin, for example).
