► Overall, however, we see a solid performance and solid market breadth, with only the technology sectors (technology and communications) recording notable losses - but here too, the sharp fall in Nvidia is the reason, which also caused Broadcom to fall by 1.5 %. Alphabet (- 1.5%) is dragging down the communications sector. We expect a stabilization in the last minutes of regular trading.

► We re-enter the EUR/USD and find an entry point that is now well above today's lows and our triggered TP. After earlier significant gains, there was some USD selling again, which accelerated further after strong US economic data that exceeded expectations. US GDP growth in the second quarter was stronger than initially expected, mainly due to an upward revision in consumer spending, according to the Commerce Department. Real GDP rose 3% (QoQ) in the April through June period, up from the previous estimate of 2.8%. We also see little sign of a rapid deterioration in the US labor market, which further reduces the pressure on the Fed to support the US economy and labor market by cutting interest rates quickly.

► The rapid disinflation in the Eurozone - particularly in Germany - where inflation is even in deflationary territory on a monthly basis, makes interest rate cuts by the ECB very likely. The EUR will remain weak with inflation at the ECB's 2% target and signs of economic weakness and weak(ening) consumer spending. We enter again at 1.10850 - 1.10900.

► We have seen a significant drop in the EUR following the Spanish and German federal inflation data, suggesting that overall inflation is falling towards (or in some areas already below) the ECB's 2% target.

► German inflation data (for the whole country) will be released in 30 minutes and will likely show a significant slowdown in Germany, also due to lower energy prices in the last 2 months as well as the weak economy. Analysts expect inflation in Germany to have fallen to 2.1% y-o-y in August (preliminary data) from 2.3% in July. I believe the data will come in at 1.9% to 2.0%, which is already in line with the ECB's inflation target. Germany is the largest economy in the eurozone and would therefore significantly increase expectations of further rate cuts by the ECB.

► I see the ECB as no less dovish than the Fed or actually more dovish than all other major central banks (including the BoE, BoC, BoJ, SNB, RBA, RBNZ etc., with the exception of the Chinese central bank, which is easing more aggressively).

► We now see the EUR/USD at 1.11000 - we are going SHORT here (again). Investors also remain optimistic about Fed rate cuts - but most of this is already fully priced in - and there is even scope for a reduction in optimistic rate cut expectations (as it is unlikely that the Fed will cut more than 25bps in September, for example).

Exceptional trading today/yesterday (another 100% day), of course with the annoying flaw as I had expected the Nasdaq to go up first in the first half of US trading before the heavy profit taking would kick in. One reason for my thinking was Nvidia's initial solid performance in the pre-market (though we had expected significant profit taking ahead of the earnings report) and the surprisingly strong European markets. It's particularly sad because it also ended our 24-in-a-row winning streak with indices. 2️⃣4️⃣💥

Otherwise - very good trading and even better predictions. We currently see CRM higher post-market (~3%, not good for our SHORT position). Nvidia is currently down 7%, pushing our Nasdaq SHORT deep in profit (you can set a in-profit SL now/give the Nasdaq some more room to the downside). Mega trade.

Salesforce (CRM) 🇺🇸

Slightly higher after the earnings report. To me the report only looks solid at first glance (need to look at more detail). Slight beat in revenue and EPS expectations.

But the guidance for the full year seems a bit soft. CRM up ~3% percent initially - now we see CRM up only 1 - 2% percent. We could see more decline in CRM as the weakness in guidance is actually what we feared (and perhaps too many expected - which explains the current reaction).

Not only does the report need to be strong - but arguably near perfect in every way - otherwise I see the risk of further significant selling. While I expect a strong report - even well above analyst expectations - BUT I even see a risk that the market will remain relatively unimpressed by even very good data. Once again, the market probably wants to see a perfect Nvidia earnings report - something that will not be easy to achieve.

► Our CRM position has triggered our TP for a big profit. We remain SHORT and re-enter now with the mini-rebound near our triggered TP (=currently even above our TP ~ 259.50 - 260.00) as we expect selling and further profit taking towards the NYSE closing as well as losses post CRM's earnings report.

► We also see Nvidia slipping again. The Nasdaq 100 even tested shortly 19250 (but found some support again). Our DAX SHORT is well in profit.

The sharp drop in Nvidia's share price after a very strong earnings report only showed that the stock was priced to perfection, as we had expected/predicted.

► Nvidia may not have met the inflated expectations of some traders (the so-called “whisper numbers”), but they certainly did not invalidate the potential growth acceleration from AI in the coming quarters or signs of a slowdown in the integration of more AI.

► We buy the dip in Meta - now almost flat for the day (range $515.50 - $517.00) - and go LONG again - well below our previously triggered SL and even further below (almost 2%) than Meta's high today. Meta has outperformed Alphabet, Microsoft or Apple in monetizing AI and will continue to see accelerating revenue growth and likely improving operating margins.

BUY WHEN* NYSE OPENS 🔼 Meta Platforms (META) 🇺🇸

While we saw yesterday sharp losses in the Nasdaq 100 (especially in after-hours trading / which we traded near perfectly) we don't see overall risk sentiment now worsened. Nvidia's earning report was strong, better than analyst expectations - but of course the astronomical growth rates is slowing - something that some traders did not wanted to see having sky-high expectations. We don't see here lasting negative impact of Nvidia. The AI growth story remains overall intact.

🔹 Nasdaq (+0.4%) has risen slightly today (compared to yesterday's close), but is well above the lows after the close. Strong US economic growth data also paints a picture of a still strong economy/robust consumer demand. We have found a very strong entry point and remain LONG. We can set a TP ✅ @: 19514.70 (already outdated! ⚠️) and pull our SL into the money if the Nasdaq rises above 19460. Wall Street in particular is benefiting from strong pre-market gains in Apple.

🔹 Salesforce (+4.2%) opens very well with a plus of almost 4% after the software giant presented robust results for the second quarter that were slightly above the moderate estimates. CRM's earnings outlook for the full year also exceeded analysts' expectations. With Salesforce still showing signs of slow growth (8% y-o-y revenue growth is not impressive for a technology stock), there could be heavy profit-taking - I think gains are completely overdone at the moment. We see only limited or no additional upside potential - your position could already close at your SL due to the poor opening if you are still working with an SL to limit further losses 🔑 @: 273.68 and the TP ✅ @: 262.13 (slightly off-profit / updated already !).


► Apart from Nvidia, we see a very solid performance of technology stocks in pre-market trading. While Nvidia has disappointed investors/traders' inflated expectations, the company's earnings report has shown no signs of declining AI revenues or slowing demand for AI-enabled hardware.

► We expect a rebound from recent profits and buy Meta at the open on the NYSE. Nvidia's numbers show continued massive demand (and demand growth) for AI integration/hardware. Meta is furthest along in monetizing AI integrations and expectations for continued near-term ad revenue growth are high. Meta's AI model “Llama” is very advanced and has led to accelerated growth for the social media giant. Meta opens 0.4% higher - we want to find an entry point in the 516.50-518.00 range and see significant recovery potential.

► The robust US economic data (USD GDP growth stronger than expected at 3% QoQ vs. 2.8% expected) reduces the pressure on the Fed to cut interest rates quickly in the coming months or to take a more cautious stance. However, good data is again seen as positive, as the Fed has already announced that it sees the conditions for a rate cut.

► We currently see the Nasdaq 100 unchanged (but significantly higher than after the overnight decline, which we traded extremely well). We see further recovery potential here and the negative impact of a weakening Nvidia as not too severe as both sales, earnings per share and guidance remained very strong (but just below the completely inflated expectations of investors / not analysts). We are going LONG here near 19400.

► In addition, the Nasdaq's most heavily weighted stock, Apple, is trading 1.5% higher after the tech giant ordered components for a much higher number of iPhones than last year, suggesting it expects higher iPhone sales boosted by Apple's new artificial intelligence-based integrations.

► We see higher yields and a stronger USD (DXY now at almost +0.3%) weighing somewhat on the growth sector - but the overall very strong US economic data will help drive stocks higher again, even if Nvidia is currently trading 3-4% lower in pre-market trading.

❗️ Inflation in Germany (y-o-y) down to 1.9% - already below ECB target

As we expected, the German inflation data was well below analysts' expectations (of 2.1% y-o-y) and significantly lower than in July, when inflation stood at 2.3% y-o-y.

Expectations that the ECB will cut the key interest rate further in September and in the coming months have now risen further. In addition, we see that the Eurozone economy (especially Germany) is struggling with few exceptions, which also suggests that the ECB should support the economy by easing monetary policy.

The EUR will now continue to lose strength. We remain SHORT in the EUR.

❗️ European stocks higher, US stocks stabilize despite Nvidia-led tech slump

► European stock futures rose despite the global AI rally faltering due to Nvidia's unimpressive (from many investors' perspective) sales outlook and cautious signs of a slowdown. The Euro Stoxx 600 contracts rose by 0.6%. Spain's inflation rate fell to 2.2% in August, down from 2.8% in July, providing some relief on the inflation front. European markets are awaiting the publication of German inflation data later today.

► US markets stabilized and recovered in early pre-market trading, although Nvidia's guidance was disappointing and the company's shares fell over 7% in extended trading (currently only down over 3% in pre-market trading). Despite doubling fiscal Q2 revenue to $30 billion and initiating a $50 billion share buyback, Nvidia's guidance fell short of the market's very inflated expectations, leading to a 7% decline in after-hours trading. Nasdaq 100 futures fell as much as 1.4%, reflecting weakness in the technology sector as a whole and pushing our SHORT position deep into the money. The Nasdaq 100 is now down just 0.4% as investors focus on upcoming US economic data, including Q2 GDP estimates and jobless claims, to gauge the Federal Reserve's next moves. In addition, the Nvidia report seems to be viewed more positively in hindsight - with still very impressive sales growth from Nvidia - albeit with signs that the massive explosive growth is slowing (of course it / it has to). The Fed's preferred inflation measure, the PCE price index, will be released on Friday.

► Asian markets mostly fell, with chipmakers TSMC and SK Hynix leading the declines, reflecting the global downturn in the technology sector. The Nikkei 225 Index in Japan closed unchanged, ending a two-day rally, while the Shanghai Composite fell 0.5% to its lowest level in almost seven months. The Hang Seng Index in Hong Kong rose by 0.52%. Sentiment was further weakened by UBS downgrading its growth forecast for China, citing a sharper-than-expected slump in the real estate market. Australia's S&P/ASX 200 index also fell, due to weaker than expected investment data.

► Oil prices stabilized at around $74/barrel (spot price) after a two-day decline, as broader market losses were offset by a decline in US inventories and continued supply disruptions in Libya. Gold rose slightly to trade at around $2,520/oz, just below its record high, posting a monthly gain as investors continue to seek safety in the face of market volatility.

Nvidia (NVDA) 🇺🇸

It's going more downhill (for now) 📉

We've seen some last minute buying in Nvidia (but overall a negative performance today).

Nvidia reported good earnings - even very strong earnings - but it's still seeing selling here. This is certainly a reaction that almost no one expected and certainly causes confusion at the moment - but exactly the rare phenomenon we were expecting.

► Nvidia rose at some point some 2% after the report - almost flat moving. The reason for Nvidia's slightly positive reaction initially is also a massive stock buy-back. The earnings beat - is narrowing here.

► HOWEVER, we see what we expected. A solid beat on revenue and EPS expectations - and a completely muted reaction (potentially selling - when there are more details about Nvidia's forecast and revenue growth risks.

► I stay SHORT here in the Nasdaq but trade half size. I went straight back at 19400. Please don't SHORT below 19300 - we see Nvidia currently volatile. You can SHORT Nasdaq 100 here at 19330 - 19390

► More on Nvidia - in the upcoming earnings call with CEO Jensen Huang - we see a STRONG earnings report - but not the PERFECT earnings report that the market would have loved to see. We see Nvidia's growth rate slowing.

We are now seeing the profit taking that we had intended to trade in New York - but unfortunately, we have already seen the beginnings of panic selling immediately after the NYSE open (which unfortunately broke our 24-in-a-row winning streak). However, ahead of the Nvidia (and Salesforce) earnings report, we are still seeing additional panic selling.

While I expect a strong report from Nvidia, the likelihood is that the market will still be unimpressed by the data. While this may seem to make little sense - Nvidia's mega rally (more than 1000% since October 2022 or more than 150% year-to-date) means that the market probably wants to see a perfect earnings report.

Our DAX SHORT is deep in the money - but we are still working with a wide TP from here as well.
