► We continue to see relatively narrow ranges in equities, currencies, yields (bonds) and also gold - which may be surprising given the ongoing uncertainty and the possible close outcome of the US elections.

► Gold saw a small dip in early Chinese trading during a liquidity squeeze after the Chinese PMI for the services sector came in much stronger than expected and moved well back into growth territory (52 vs. 50.5 expected and well above September's 50.3), which also pushed money back into Chinese equities in the meantime. The recent improvement in Chinese economic data is a further cautious sign that Beijing's massive stimulus measures may actually have contributed to an acceleration in Chinese economic activity. However, the impetus for the manufacturing PMIs (published on October 31) was more moderate.

► We have been working with a generally too tight SL - which means that the mini dip during Asian trading may have closed your position, and unfortunately ended our 30 gold winning streak (which was almost certainly the longest active winning streak in gold trading). *If you are still LONG - STAY LONG. Quite unfortunate as given the general uncertainty ahead of the US election - which is likely to be too close to call to determine a quick winner there could even be election controversy.

► We are approaching the $2,735 level again, which has been an important level over the last 3 trading days. We are seeing flat US yields, with yields in Europe, which is also suffering from greater economic and political uncertainty (in Germany), outperforming US yields for now, limiting the strength of the USD.

► The interest rate cut by the US Federal Reserve is largely priced in, which provides little additional tailwind for the gold price. However, with increasing volatility in the coming trading hours and in view of the Fed's interest rate decision on Thursday, the gold price is likely to recapture the $2,750 mark - possibly today.

► We are selling the rebound (attempt) after the most recent mini-sell-off (that came after we saw initial pre-market gains).

► Harris received some encouraging signals from a poll by ABC News and Ipsos that gives her a nationwide lead of 49% - 46% over Trump in the race for the White House. Even though Harris is leading in the popular vote, I expect Trump to win the electoral vote (and probably by a wider margin than analysts are expecting).

► A Trump presidency is generally seen as more favorable for Wall Street, so we can expect some headwinds when more media outlets predict a Harris victory. At the same time, the ongoing uncertainty and rising volatility will also lead to profit taking. A large part of the attention will also be focused on which party takes control of Congress. If control of the US House of Representatives and Senate is split, it would likely mean a continuation of the status quo.

► The Nasdaq 100 is currently benefiting from lower yields and a weaker USD – we think that more investors are seeking safety and will therefore reduce their equity holdings (slightly). Nvidia's almost 2% gains are also pushing up the Nasdaq 100 – I see little scope for further gains by Nvidia for today. We see small-cap stocks slightly underperforming, indicating cautious trading / markets.

► We also see that markets in Europe have lost earlier slight gains and are now mostly flat. Our DAX position is 20 points away from our TP. (already hit TP ⚠️ - delayed!)

Sorry for the delay – I had to eat something after a long day and looked at a few messages regarding the upcoming US election + a good glass of red wine.

By reaching the TP in gold, we completed our 3️⃣0️⃣ successful gold trades in a row and another 100% 🏆 day. Our current gold winning streak is probably the longest active winning streak in short-term/intra-day trading (congratulations!) - but it could end on Monday, depending on how gold opens.

Incidentally, we also extended our index winning streak to a current 1️⃣9️⃣ today - with the DAX still open - and our FX winning streak to a current 2️⃣1️⃣ with our very nice GBP/USD). Absolutely crazy numbers...

The risk premium on gold was significantly reduced - although gold came under even more pressure from the sharp rise in yields despite the rather weak NFP data. On the other hand, the market correctly understood that much of the NFP weakness was due to a Boeing strike and two major hurricanes.

Overall, it was a solid day for us, but our WTI position was hit hard by the market's overreaction to fears of further escalation in the Middle East war – although the oil price also received a fundamental tailwind from signs of solid US oil demand – it was just not a good trade and also not well managed, as we had many opportunities to close much better / more balanced or with a much smaller loss. A rare bad trade for us – the worst in weeks...

November is historically a strong month (for stocks), but we start the coming week with political uncertainty one day before the US presidential election 🇺🇸📨. Although most polls show Harris ahead in the important swing states and both candidates receiving about 48% of the vote in the popular vote, I expect Trump to win.

I'll be off for a "quick" meeting (I'll be back in ~ less than 2 hours) – I'm keeping the SL wide for my Gold (XAU/USD)🥇 position (2723.89) – please only do this if your balance can withstand this further swing without any problems. Otherwise, set your SL here at 2728.47. I don't expect Iran (or a proxy militia in Iraq) to be able to launch a successful attack. On the other hand, any attack would be an escalation (broadening) of the conflict and lead to retaliation by Israel, which should give both gold and oil a tailwind on Monday. Since we have a double exposure here, you can close your WTI (USOIL) 🛢 position at a small loss at ~39.35 or hold it with SL.

We update our position. Our GBP/USD remains deep in profit but finds some support near 1.29250 - we thus close here. Our gold position is still off-profit. We are tightening our TP four our gold position and also work now with a not too wide SL here. If gold falls below yesterday's low and doesn't find support at 2730 gold may dip back even below $2,720. For medium-term trading - gold is already very attractive now.

Our index positions are break-even / slightly in profit. We want to close our Nasdaq 100 position as we don't want to take a double SHORT position into first week November - with November general seen as a strong month - although we will likely see more selling on Monday with US presidential election uncertainty.

We are tightening the TP for our WTI position.

► We wanted to close our WTI position at 69.60 and see that WTI is now actually at that level - but too late and our SL has already been triggered. We expect the oil price to recover from the current losses - WTI is currently trading ~0.8% lower for the day. We expect oil to soon find support and move back towards / above $70.00.

► According to Israeli intelligence, Iran is preparing to attack Israel from Iraqi territory in the next few days, possibly before the US presidential elections on 5 November. Iran is carrying out the attack (if it comes to that) via pro-Iranian militias in Iraq to prevent another Israeli attack on strategic targets in Iran... so the theory goes.

► A spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry said on Monday, after Israel's (limited) attack on Iranian targets, that Tehran would use "use all available tools" to respond to the Israeli attack.

► We will see oil buying again before the end of regular trading as investors are concerned about another attack on Israel. However, the attack will be another (embarrassing) failure anyway, so we are only trading expectations here, not the actual attack.

► Oil prices also benefited from the recent decline in US oil and fuel inventories and expectations that OPEC+ will postpone planned oil production increases.

► Headwinds for oil prices have now come from higher yields and weaker than expected US labor market data.

► We see mixed markets, but Wall Street is holding on to gains from early pre-market trading (overnight gains) so far - and is even benefiting from the temporary USD weakness and increased expectations of interest rate cuts (which have fallen back somewhat in the last two days after strong GDP growth and initial unemployment data) after seemingly weak NFP data.

► We are already SHORT in the DAX and do not want to be oversold at the current prices. We expect further profit-taking during the course of the day, as yesterday's Apple earnings figures indicate that it is generally becoming more difficult for US companies to sell in China (possibly also more trade restrictions) and that competition from China is generally increasing.

► We could initially see slight buying in the large tech companies that suffered generally heavy losses yesterday, such as Microsoft, Meta, Alphabet (which lost a significant portion of its profits) and, of course, profit-taking in the chip sector. We generally saw very broad losses in tech yesterday.

► Better entry opportunities will likely arise after the NYSE opening.

Trading volumes and volatility are relatively low considering we are witnessing one of the most dramatic and closest US elections in history. We have seen two assassination attempts, a candidate switch (Biden to Harris), harsh rhetoric and warnings about the fate of democracy from both sides. Uncertainty about the outcome of the race remains complete on Election Day with a total of 244 million Americans eligible to vote. More than 81 million have already cast their vote. Polls suggest a slight lead for Harris, but overall it is a very close race that will most likely be contested in court.


► We do not have an open position as our Nasdaq 100 SHORT hit our tight SL in overnight trading (in the money; our DAX 🇩🇪 SHORT hit our TP in profit).

►It is likely that we will see more profit-taking waves - especially in the later hours of trading. Overall, however, we see a slightly (but broadly) higher open.

► We are buying the underperformance of Apple (flat in pre-market) and believe we can make a small profit by buying the world's most valuable company (which, however, is currently almost tied with Nvidia - possibly in 2nd place again today as Nvidia opens slightly higher and could start some buying). Apple can benefit from the fact that a Trump or Harris election win is unlikely to have much impact - it remains the “safe” stock in tech, growth and AI.

► I think (VIP ONLY) is an excellent long-term investment. The (VIP ONLY) manufacturer may be in trouble, but (VIP ONLY) is here to stay and the US government will(VIP ONLY). More importantly, (VIP ONLY) has an attractive valuation after heavy losses, the new management is clearly more focused on quality than short-term margin optimization - but most importantly, (VIP ONLY) that (VIP ONLY). We found a good entry (I hit the dip exactly), but even at $2,736 - $2,737 our SL remains in profit.

We traded today's very difficult to trade markets extremely well and also correctly predicted today's moves already on Friday (which was very difficult due to strong sentiment pricing). We closed our WTI position with a big profit (especially if you had slippage as oil opened much higher today). We extended our winning streak in the indices (with the Nasdaq we now have 2️⃣2️⃣ consecutive winning trades) and also in Forex (with today's EUR/USD we also extended our current winning streak to 2️⃣2️⃣).

We also made a very good NYSE opening trade (w/ Nvidia) - including finding a very good entry range.

You can widen the SL of our gold position a bit - which was mostly sideways today (slightly bullish as it almost tested $2,750 again today). You can also set a not too wide TP for our DAX position (currently slightly in profit / break-even).

Although Nvidia has gotten a boost from its inclusion in the Dow Jones (which in reality provides very little / almost no fundamental tailwind), Nvidia could open higher again tomorrow. ► We see slight overselling in the USD as some polls show Harris (surprisingly) leading in some swing states where Trump was expected to win. I believe early voting generally favors Democrats, as does absentee voting - especially among those living outside the US. Polls suggest a Harris win - I still very much expect Trump to win. Nevertheless, the election will be close, which means that it may well take a few days before the winner is clear.

► At the start of the week, US yields also fell significantly after rising sharply on Friday. The DXY fell by almost 0.6 % - the USD even fell by 0.7 % against the EUR. We currently even saw a short-term rise to almost 1.09150 (update).

► We are going SHORT on the EUR/USD and expect the USD to recoup some of its pre-market losses.

►The market's expectation that the Fed will make a further rate cut later this week (Thursday) is also weighing on the USD - but should be priced in anyway. There will be no surprise here.

► We saw mixed economic data from the Eurozone today and see political instability in Germany - the government could fall apart in the next few days (in reality, there hasn't really been a government for months as the governing parties can't agree on a common path and can't agree on how to simulate the German economy).

► European stock futures remained steady ahead of the upcoming US presidential election on 5 November, the potential impact of which on global trade and politics is the focus of attention. In addition, the Bank of England is expected to cut the key interest rate by 25 basis points to 4.75% on 7 November as the UK struggles with inflationary pressures. Spain's manufacturing PMI beat expectations, rising to 54.5 in October, signaling growth in output and new orders. However, Italy's PMI came in below expectations at 46.9 (48.6), while Germany's PMI improved from a very low level (43.6 from 40.6 the previous month and 42.6 expected). The French PMI (44.5 vs. 44.5 expected) and the overall Eurozone PMI (46.0 from 45.0 the previous month 45.9 expected) were close to expectations. Political uncertainty surrounding the outcome of the US election is making investors in Europe cautious and preventing them from making major bets.

► US markets face a pivotal week with the Federal Reserve interest rate decision (DO) and the presidential election on the horizon. The Fed is expected to cut interest rates by 25 basis points, while weak labor market data is being affected by hurricanes and a major strike. Treasury yields have fallen but remain high on expectations of continued inflationary pressure under a possible Trump administration. The post-market rally in tech stocks, including Amazon and Intel, provided a positive boost on Friday, while the USD weakened. Polls suggest that Kamala Harris is gaining ground, prompting investors to rethink earlier bets on Trump and reverse a slightly reversed ‘Trump trade’ that favored the USD and pushed up yields.

► Asian equities traded mixed, with China's Shanghai Composite rising more than 1%, as China's National People's Congress met for a week-long session and was expected to renew support for the economy. Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index also rose slightly by 0.15%, while Japanese markets remained closed for Culture Day.

► Oil prices climbed more than 3% to over $71/barrel (and opened above our TP - Robert), after an attack by an Iranian proxy (Hezbollah) from Lebanon that wounded 11 people in central Israel over the weekend and OPEC+'s decision to postpone its output increase, as expected by SmartTrader chief analyst Robert Lindner. Meanwhile, gold held steady around the $2,735/oz mark after two days of losses as markets await the upcoming central bank announcements that will determine the direction of the gold price, and of course the US election. We are seeing slightly lower yields, which gives gold some fundamental tailwind.
