Trump's expected reforms are seen as inflationary, which also means that the Fed has less leeway to cut interest rates quickly, meaning that interest rates and yields in the US will remain high, further increasing the appeal of the USD.

► We expect today to be a rather quiet day and in general the markets will calm down somewhat this week - even if the Nvidia earnings report could cause strong volatility again.

► Weakness in (VIP ONLY) has continued to weigh on the (VIP ONLY) today. Overall, however, we see higher (VIP ONLY), which have also been boosted (at least for energy prices) by tensions between Ukraine and Russia intensifying following the likely US decision to lift some restrictions on Ukraine's use of Western-made weapons to attack limited military targets in Russia. This also increases the pressure on other Western supporters, such as Germany, to lift more restrictions and supply more weapons (which can also reach Russian soil).

We finished the week incredibly strong, which makes the week extremely successful overall. We have already closed all (!) of our trades from today in profit - phenomenal 🎆 - which is perfect as we could see a swing in sentiment on Monday. The only exception was Palantir after the analytics software provider announced it was moving its listing from the New York Stock Exchange to the Nasdaq - we saw some gains and then the FOMO kicked in again - unfortunately this can always happen. I am SHORT in Palantir again (entry 64.84 - currently out of the money).

With the exception of Palantir - absolutely crazy profits with remarkable entries and exits (also yesterday). We made huge gains with Moderna - closed very well. We bought USD dips perfectly and made a small fortune on indices in particular - congratulations!

A day like today reminds us of the level we are trading at but also that there are always moments you can't predict. We were a little too ahead of the markets at the beginning/mid week and then saw exactly what we predicted and made massive profits by positioning ourselves ahead of the big moves. 👏

► We made a great EUR/USD SHORT yesterday just before Powell's speech in which he hinted that the Fed is in no hurry to cut rates. Powell said that continued economic growth (markets near ATH!), the robust labor market and stubborn inflation provide little reason for quick rate cuts. Our EUR/USD closed overnight (in profit) 📸 - but is now significantly higher.

► The market reacted strongly to Powell's comments - although much of this was already priced into the USD, which had risen sharply against other currencies in recent days. The EUR/USD fell more this week than it has in seven months. There was also a strong reaction on Wall Street as the recent rally hit resistance and profit-taking set in.

► Rate cut expectations have fallen sharply - last night even below 50% for a rate cut next month. Now they are back at around 60%, but well below the 82.5% before yesterday's PPI report and Powell's rather hawkish comments.

► Lower oil prices also helped to keep USD strength in check - for now. We expect the USD to remain in demand as expectations for rate cuts in the coming meetings or due to further hawkish comments from Fed representatives could fall further.

► We see US government bond yields continuing to rise (slightly). The EUR/USD pair has now gained more than 0.6 % - not a small amount. We also expect more technical resistance in the 1.05900 - 1.06000 range.

► Today's inflation data from the Eurozone shows that although inflation in the Eurozone is no longer falling (for now), however it is still below the ECB's 2% target.

❗️ Stocks slide on hawkish Fed signals; mixed UK/China economic data; US retail sales ahead

► European markets faced headwinds with the Euro Stoxx 600 falling sharply then recovering some of the losses (now at -0.4%), reflecting concerns over the Federal Reserve’s cautious approach to rate cuts. French inflation edged higher to 1.2% in October (still below ECB target; Italian inflation at 0.9% up from 0.7%), while the UK reported sluggish Q3 GDP growth of just 0.1%, marking its weakest expansion in three quarters. The UK's production sector contracted by 0.2%, and monthly GDP dipped by 0.1% in September. These signals, combined with a rising trade deficit of £-3.46B, underscore lingering economic pressures in the region. Construction showed some resilience, expanding by 0.8%, but it wasn’t enough to offset broader concerns.

► US markets extended losses, with S&P 500 and Nasdaq futures down 0.55% and 0.80% (in pre-market trading), respectively, as investors digested Jerome Powell’s hawkish tone and two reports that showed that inflation in the US is picking up. Powell emphasized a measured approach to rate cuts, dampening hopes for a December policy easing. Meanwhile, Tesla and Rivian slumped after reports of Trump’s plan to eliminate EV tax credits, highlighting potential policy shifts that could impact growth sectors. Retail sales data and speeches by Fed officials later today could provide further clarity. The USD is set to gain nearly 1.5% for the week, supported by Trump’s election win and expectations of upcoming Trump policies (such as new tariffs and tax cuts).

► Asian markets delivered mixed performances, influenced by cautious signs of stabilization in China’s economy. Japan’s Nikkei rose 0.35%, buoyed by solid Q3 GDP growth of 0.2% quarter-on-quarter and improved industrial production. The JPY weakened further, hitting a four-month low at 156 per USD, as monetary conditions remained accommodative. In China, retail sales surged 4.8% YoY in October, the highest pace in eight months, driven by government stimulus and a week-long holiday. However, industrial output grew by 5.3%, below expectations of 5.6%, and property sector challenges persisted with home prices falling for the 16th consecutive month. To address liquidity concerns, the People’s Bank of China injected CNY 981 billion in its largest single-day cash infusion since 2020, aiming to stabilize the struggling economy. Chines markets, however, closed again significantly lower: Shanghai at -1.5%; Shenzhen even -2.6% / Hang Seng closed near flat at -0.05%.

► In commodities, oil prices continued to decline, heading for a sharp weekly loss amid concerns of a supply glut and the impact of a stronger USD. WTI Crude fell over 1% to $67.7/barrel due to weak demand expectations (especially from China) that have compounded the bearish sentiment in the energy markets. Gold was steady and hovered near a two-month low as higher Treasury yields and a strong USD weighed on the metal’s safe-haven appeal. The lack of clarity on the Fed’s policy path has added to the uncertainty, keeping gold prices subdued for now.

► Our DAX position closed deep in profit in early European trading (📸) - the DAX then rose 150 points back into positive territory - where we SHORT again.

► The DAX benefited from the sharp fall in oil prices (our WTI SHORT also hit TP 📸). We also saw a mixed performance in Asia again. The markets in Asia fell significantly overall this week and are at multi-month lows. Ongoing concerns about the global economy and weak Chinese demand are also reflected in oil prices, which fell by more than 3 % (currently) this week.

► Heavy pre-market losses are recorded in New York: further headwinds for global equities. Lower expectations for future Fed interest rate cuts are weighing heavily on US growth stocks. We see Europe outperforming the US in early trading today, as the ECB is also expected to maintain its monetary easing course. However, the European economy will continue to underperform and come under pressure from concerns about Trump and possible protectionist measures by the US (and the actual measures).

► The inflation rate in the Eurozone (today Italy at 0.9%, France 1.2%, and to a certain extent German real prices -0.8% YoY / but +0.4% MoM) showed what we had predicted - a halt to disinflation, but inflation that is already below the ECB's target.

Yesterday we managed Tuesday's positions very well - but did not have very good timing with Tesla (although some of you closed with a profit overall) and also did not have good timing with AUD/USD.

We trade the tough markets very well today - though we should have closed our Nasdaq 100 position much better (preferably yesterday).

We were otherwise ahead of the market - a little too far ahead even - we are now seeing a little less sentiment driven movement and slowly a return to fundamentals - with expectations, however, continuing to be the main driver - especially speculation on what the world will look like under Trump and how the US will position itself with the new president in January.

🔹 Boeing (+0.4%) has often opened higher, but was confronted with returning profit-taking. We continue to expect buying near $140.00.

🔹Citigroup (+0.2%) opened slightly higher. We have a rather tight TP ✅ (69.37) and hold it.

🔹 Palantir (- 0.8%) opens lower but will remain volatile. If you are still in (SHORT), best to close at TP ✅ (59.37) - slightly above Thursday's close, but massively below Friday's close. Palantir is a bit too volatile, but has an extremely high risk of heavy profit taking.



► We like the prospects of a recovery in the major tech stocks, which suffered heavy losses on Friday. (VIP ONLY), Alphabet and (VIP ONLY) in particular look attractive for a short-term recovery. They all suffered significant profit-taking on Friday (and throughout last week).

► We see some dip buying in the Nasdaq, which has formed a V-shaped recovery. We see overall stabilizing markets in Europe and Asia (after-hours). We are working with a TP about 100 points above the entry.

► We see some buying in tech - only Nvidia is dragging the Nasdaq significantly lower after reports that Nvidia's next generation Blackwell chips (server/AI) are having problems with overheating in server racks. This raised concerns that there could be delays for customers. Nvidia has not yet confirmed the overheating issues and has not informed buyers of a possible delay.

► Tesla jumps sharply higher again after Bloomberg News reported that President-elect Donald Trump's transition team plans to make a national regulatory framework for self-driving vehicles a top priority for the U.S. Department of Transportation.

► We also see the stabilizing USD (as we expected) supporting the Nasdaq (even if yields continue to rise).

► We are working with a TP that is not too wide. In the CAC we are still SHORT (currently slightly off-profit).

► We also see slight gains in small/mid-cap stocks and overall slight outperformance in cyclical/growth stocks - an indication that risk sentiment in the US has improved slightly on a generally quiet day. With the exception of Nvidia and Netflix, we see tech stocks mostly in the green.

❗️ European equities little changed with a quiet start to the week; Much attention on Nvidia's earnings report on Wednesday

► European stock futures trade slightly lower reflecting cautious sentiment at start of the week with an empty economic calendar today. The Stoxx Europe 600 Index slipped slightly by 0.2%, extending last week’s downward trend. In corporate news, Enel raised its dividend and outlined a profit target of up to €6.9 billion for 2025, highlighting strength in utilities. Investors are now closely watching inflation readings from the UK (Wednesday) and Eurozone (Tuesday), which are expected to shape the upcoming decisions of the Bank of England and the European Central Bank. Yields in the region edged higher, with Germany's 10-year yield rising to 2.37% and the UK’s to 4.48%.

► US equity futures displayed a mixed outlook as investors braced for a week filled with high-profile earnings reports. The Nasdaq is slightly up after sharp losses in the previous week. Nvidia's report will be scrutinized for updates on demand for its AI chips, especially the Blackwell series. Nvidia remains the most important company in the world. Last Friday’s upbeat US retail sales data further reduced expectations of rapid Fed rate cuts, following Chair Jerome Powell’s hawkish remarks highlighting the resilience of the economy and persistent inflation pressures. Treasury yields extended their climb, with the 10-year yield reaching 4.45%. Investors are also eyeing key earnings from major companies like Walmart, Lowe’s, and Target, which will offer further insights into consumer demand.

► Asian markets struggled for direction as China’s rally, driven by regulatory support announcements, fizzled out by the close. The CSI 300 Index fell 0.5% after a temporary 1.6% gain earlier in the session, following news that China’s securities regulator had encouraged companies to boost returns to shareholders. Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index rebounded 0.77%, recovering from six consecutive days of losses, while Samsung Electronics surged in South Korea after announcing a surprise stock buyback plan. Japan’s Nikkei slid 0.96% as the JPY weakened further to 155 / USD, following BOJ Governor Ueda's remarks reiterating that future rate hikes would depend on economic data.

► Oil prices (+ 0.8%) are (temporarily) higher after last week's sharp decline. WTI Crude oil is trading around $67.5/barrel. Gold advanced to above $2,590/oz, after its worst weekly drop since 2021, driven by a softer USD and markets seeing little risks for imminent economic data further reducing rate cut expectations. US Treasury yield, however, remain elevated and are slightly up in early US pre-market trading (+2 bps for the US 10-Y). The precious metal remains under pressure from higher bond yields but has seen renewed interest as a potential safe haven and attractive long-term investment amid volatile market conditions. SmartTrader chief analysts Robert Lindner recommended strongly to buy (especially for medium-/long-term investing) with gold trading at $2,550 in the previous week.

We closed our WTI position well in profit today - the oil price, however, fell much further, so we closed a little early. Our TP was too cautious. The CAC moved close to our TP again, but made some gains in after-hours trading. Markets in Europe also benefited from a rotation out of Wall Street, a weak EUR and the falling oil prices.

Gold has found support at/above 2550 despite significantly reduced rate cut expectations. Gold remains a good long-term investment (very attractive at the current price).

Our success rate over the last five weeks remains above 91% - which of course is / remains exceptional. We have done well through the extremely sentiment driven markets this week - but this has of course reduced our overall success rate somewhat as markets are now moving more spontaneously and in wider ranges (higher volatility).

We secure profits with a tight TP (Dow Jones) in the last minutes of trading. We have found a very good entry point.

We see a market that is pricing in significantly less Fed rate cuts - not just that expectations for the 25bp rate cut in December have been lowered - but especially for 2025/26.

We also see concerns about tariffs being introduced under Trump and a potential tightening of deportation that could hurt some industries (especially construction) that employ low-income immigrants.

We are seeing heavy losses in interest rate sensitive stocks/growth stocks that have done very well this week and the previous week.

Your DAX may have just triggered the SL - if you are still SHORT (in the money) - I would still go with a tight TP (and very tight SL) here - we are still SHORT (in the CAC) anyway.

🔹 Palantir (+2.1%) is bucking the trend - but is likely to see profit-taking again. You can optimize your entry if Palantir opens near 60.50 - we could find an entry well above 61 and improve our entry. Palantir has only risen because the company announced it will move its listing from the New York Stock Exchange to the Nasdaq Global Select Market. Palantir is likely to be included in the Nasdaq-100 Index after the move. Caution - Palantir remains very volatile.


► Wall Street came under pressure after Fed Chairman Powell signaled that the US central bank is in no hurry to cut interest rates. Some of the Trump enthusiasm was also curbed by the latest appointments. Healthcare/pharma stocks fell sharply after Robert F. Kennedy Jr. was appointed to head the Department of Health and Human Services. The markets are becoming somewhat more fundamentals-oriented again and are also coming to the realization that tariffs and tax cuts will come at the expense of something else - for example, that the US debt mountain will continue to rise or inflation will pick up again.

► Our pending order for the Nasdaq 100 was not triggered after we placed a very good Nasdaq 100 SHORT during Powell's speech. We expect the profit taking to continue and sell the Dow Jones during the NYSE opening volatility. The Dow Jones is currently down "only"0.4%, less than the S&P 500 and Nasdaq, due to the importance of financials in the Dow.

► Stronger than expected US retail sales, up 0.4% (vs. 0.3% expected) after an upwardly revised 0.8% in September, suggest that there is still little sign of economic weakness in the US.

► We are positioning ourselves SHORT on the pharmaceutical sector and see Moderna facing serious problems in the near future after the company also recently reported very poor growth data, with sales growth slumping to -45% compared to an average growth of 8.5% in the sector.

► After the “Trump trade”, we could now see a “Kennedy/MAHA trade” pushing the pharma industry down. Kennedy is a skeptic of Big Pharma (even considered a vaccine skeptic) and has promised to “end corruption in federal agencies.”

► We see Moderna opening near $38.60, already down sharply after yesterday's sharp losses. We expect further panic selling.

While our Nasdaq and DAX SHORTs triggered their TP overnight / in early European trading (for big profits overall), the CAC managed to dodge the TP by 5 points (!) and is now outperforming as the recent rotation to US equities reversed for now. However, we expect general headwinds for equities today. We see Wall Street significantly weaker in pre-market US trading after Powell indicated yesterday that the Fed is in no hurry to cut rates.

We extend our SL slightly as we want to avoid an SL close (off-profit). We are maintaining our TP.

Our late trades have both already closed in profit. EUR/USD was a bit early for me (big spread) but anyways rose to 1.05400+. Our Nasdaq hit TP (I widened the TP slightly to 20821.60 // for you it might have closed at 20826.70) - if you are still awake, you can also close slightly better at TP ✅ 20813.60 (it close well below my TP actually - nice slippage!) or close near our TP ~20825.

Our success rate will now fall slightly (but from a level that traders in short-term trading would describe as unattainable anyway) - but for now is still well above 90% 🏆

We held our Nasdaq 100 for too long or worked with a TP that was too wide. While Wall Street's outperformance has been very strong, we are now also seeing some selling in New York (and probably more tomorrow).

We remain LONG in gold - but are tightening our TP a bit. I think it's a really exceptionally good price right now for a medium/long term buy. (I bought gold today at 2650 - for my 2025/long term portfolio).

I see Palantir as an excellent (but highly volatile and therefore quite risky) SHORT position - we have already closed our first Palantir SHORT well today (and continue to be SHORT).
