We ended the week very strong, with closing Intel, Chevron and another Dow Jones position in our TPs for a very nice end of the week payout. Today also great position managing after we made one mistake this week with our too tight SL for our Nasdaq position. We are still flawless in gold trading (with currently 24 successful consecutive gold trades = 100% 🏆 Success Rate/ or even 26 including re-entries).

Very good stock trades. Our Intel position is deep in the money. After a strong opening, there was initially some profit-taking. We are now setting an in-profit SL and tightening our TP slightly or close here / soon.
With CVX we made a very strong NYSE opening trade today. We can secure profits and set the TP near yesterday's support.
📊 SmartTrader Insights: Friday Markets Wrap 🗒
📆 Friday, October 18
❗️ Stocks rise as robust retail sales boost market; Gold rose above $2,700/oz for first time
► European stocks extended gains as traders reacted to solid US/UK/CN retail sales data and yesterday's ECB rate cut. The Stoxx 600 index edged higher by over 0.25%, supported by gains in mining stocks fueled by improved economic data from China. Yesterday, the ECB’s decision to cut rates by 25 basis points to 3.25% was in line with expectations but helped markets to edge further up while the EUR extended its recent decline. UK retail sales unexpectedly rose by 0.3% in September, strengthening the pound and adding pressure on UK bonds as the Bank of England may hold off on further rate cuts. The German DAX index rose 0.15%, hitting a fresh record, while France’s CAC 40 gained even more than 0.5%.
► US futures showed gains as traders weighed the impact of stronger-than-expected retail sales data, which cast doubt on further rate cuts by the Federal Reserve. S&P 500 futures are currently up 0.15%, while the Nasdaq 100 is up around 0.4%. Treasury yields steadied following Thursday’s sharp rise, reflecting strong consumer spending that continues to support the US economy. Investors remain focused on the Fed’s future rate path amid positive economic data, such as the retail sales boost and strong employment figures.
► Asian markets had a mixed session as investors digested China's latest GDP and industrial production data. China’s Q3 GDP grew by 4.6% Y/Y, above estimates but still below the government’s 5% target. In Japan, inflation slowed to 2.5% in September, which eased market pressures. The Nikkei 225 rose 0.1%, while Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index gained over 3%, reversing losses from the previous session.
► In commodities, oil prices edged higher, with WTI Crude oil trading back around $70/barrel, supported by ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and stronger than expected economic data. Meanwhile, gold surged past all-time highs, trading above $2,700/oz for the first time in history, despite higher yields.

Quick update. The success rate has remained the same at 92.2% ‼️ (five-week period - 09.09 - 10.10), as September 6 (5 out of 6) was dropped out, while October 10 (5 out of 6) was included in our five-week period. It will be very hard to maintain this impossible performance / success rate.
Apart from that - no update on the trades of these three days as all trades were already closed.

Congrats on the ECB/ retail sales/ jobless claims trading - we really couldn't have traded it any better.
🔹 The Dow Jones (0.3%) is trading at ATH. We have found a very good entry point. We will see some volatility at the NYSE opening. Overall, we expect further gains thanks to strong US economic data / gains in the chip sector - with tech / the Nasdaq also remaining bullish. We set a not too tight TP at ATH ✅ @: 43298.90 (ATH). ⚠️ = outdated
► We buy the ugly duckling ... Intel 🎃. Intel opens about 1.4% higher (after falling 1.55% yesterday). TSMC's mega earnings report is causing a change in sentiment in the chip sector. However, we expect slight profit-taking after the opening.
► While Intel is struggling with significant structural and management problems - and also with excessive expenses, TSMC's mega outlook and the general massive demand for actual chip production (also outside Taiwan) makes Intel generally interesting and increases the potential (expected) value of Intel's foundry business.
► We will see tech and especially chip stocks be volatile today. We do NOT want to buy at the high, but find an entry point in the Intel 22.45 - 22.65 range or even a bit lower - depending on how strong the profit-taking wave is. However, we do not expect Intel to fall below 22.31 (yesterday's closing price).

The strong US economic data decreased rate cut expectations a bit. We see higher yields. We see the DXY up again (after earlier trading 0.15% down). We set a tight TP for our gold position here and secure a nice profit. We can likely find a better re-entry.
This is a nice profit - we are happy with it. Congrats!

► Strong US retail sales (as we expected) - continue to paint the picture of a strong US economy. The Dow Jones is still little changed for today - we expect further gains - even if the growth sectors benefit first (tech anyway, thanks to the strong gains in the chip sector).
► Initial jobless claims in the US also came in lower than expected - which is a bit of a headwind given the reduced rate cut expectations - but it shows that there is still little sign of an economic slowdown in the US, especially when combined with strong bank earnings and TSMC's mega earnings report.

► Markets have already run very hot - with Wall Street recovering fully after a brief dip - buoyed in particular by very positive news from the semiconductor industry following the recent warnings and possible further exposed US export restrictions. I see even more upside potential for Wall Street / European / Australian equities in the short term. TSMC posted a better than expected 54% (!) increase in quarterly earnings and remains the world's top semiconductor manufacturer.
► The ECB rate cut is priced in - but we will still see (VIP ONLY) 25 basis points. However, I believe that the EUR will not weaken much further in the short term (rather in the medium term), as the rate cut is also priced in here. The ECB remains under pressure to act, as inflation in the eurozone has already fallen below the 2% target and consumption/economic activity is weakening.
► We buy the small dip (VIP ONLY) and set a TP (VIP ONLY). The (VIP ONLY) has more room to the upside after reaching resistance at (VIP ONLY) and being pushed down a bit by (VIP ONLY)
► We expect the (VIP ONLY) to receive a tailwind from (VIP ONLY) as the day progresses and the combination of US retail sales and initial jobless claims paints(VIP ONLY). The (VIP ONLY) is also benefiting from (VIP ONLY) and strong earnings (VIP ONLY) ...

Sorry for the late second update. I'm flying to Cyprus 🇨🇾 tomorrow for some meetings (very early) - I'll be able to trade/update practically normally - maybe a bit less volume (also on Friday and Monday). I had a few last minute meetings and packed my stuff for the next few days.
-> Screenshot of all our trades from the last two days 📸
We made exceptional trades / made spot on predictions 👏 - but as I said before - not the best position management. We could have closed many of the positions better (in some cases much better - as we were actually way ahead of the markets).
Too fearful - not a good SL (too tight) for the Nasdaq 100 - I still see this one as positive - funnily enough almost at the same time our Dow Jones hit our (also too tight) TP. If you are still LONG (Nasdaq) - you can still close near our initial entry / break-even (or preferably close in profit overall soon - range 20350 - 20390).
Yours Robert

► If your gold position was closed at a profit (in our tight SL), we can now re-enter at a lower price (otherwise you can stay LONG). We see a stronger USD, which weighs on commodity prices a bit in the short term.
► We also see slightly reduced expectations for interest rate cuts by the Fed and volatility in New York - but overall, the sell-off on Wall Street is not continuing for the time being (but there is no significant rebound either = increased uncertainty - positive for God).
► We are re-entering gold (as planned anyway) and find an entry here below $2,670* ($2,668 - $2,671). Gold has almost reached a new ATH, but continues to see profit-taking at/above $2,680. We can therefore work with a TP near $2,680.

► We were a bit too greedy with gold yesterday (in terms of maximizing profits) – and should have entered earlier, as we were analyzing gold correctly anyway. But gold really didn't show any weakness in Asian trading – another sign that gold can continue to rise / reach new ATHs.
► Gold has already almost reached a new ATH today and is now seeing a short-term pullback to near $2,670. This is probably the best we will get for now. We will probably see gold reach a new ATH during the course of the day and are therefore buying the current mini-dip (range 2672 - 2675).
► We see a slightly stronger USD, but falling yields (even more so for non-US bonds). Interest rate cut expectations have risen slightly as there is more evidence of economic weakness and Chinese investors are also re-entering gold.

Very strong week (like almost every week this year). All our positions are currently closed - we see Wall Street ending strong (we traded that well again with our Dow Jones position also today) - gold at ATH - but we can find a better entry on Monday (for a LONG position) and certainly don't want to SHORT here. We see yields falling a bit towards the end of the week - but it still makes little sense to make a trade here for the weekend - although I still see a relatively good entry point in the Dow Jones here.
September 9 fell out of our five-week stats (a 100% 🏆 day with 5 out of 5) and October 11 came in instead (also a 100% 🏆 day with 4 out of 4). Our success rate is still at an incredible 92% ‼️ - congratulations; we can assume that no one has traded intra-day at our level in recent weeks (especially not gold & indices) 🎉.

► We are buying the current (today's) underperformance of the Dow Jones, after the Dow Jones components P&G and American Express presented mixed earnings reports today and just after the Dow Jones reached another record high yesterday. AXP in particular is weighing on the Dow Jones, trading more than 3% lower after total revenues fell slightly short of expectations - quite disappointing, especially given the robust US consumer spending/retail sales. Overall, however, the earnings season in the US has started on a positive note - mainly because US banking remains in very solid shape and demand for investments/money management/trading remains strong - a sign of (continued) healthy sentiment among consumers and businesses.
► We see yields stabilizing and the USD giving back some of its recent strong gains - which is rather positive for Wall Street.
► We see a strong pre-market performance in technology stocks. Chip stocks continue to lead the gains. Apple is currently trading up 2% due to surprisingly strong iPhone demand from China (which is 20% higher than iPhone 15 cycle demand at this time of year according to Bloomberg).
► We buy the current dip in the Dow Jones and expect a solid first half of regular US trading. We set our TP (VIP ONLY) points above the entry price.

We see strong gains in tech stocks, especially chip stocks (we are LONG in INTC), as well as strong pre-market performance from Apple (apparently surprisingly strong iPhone 16 sales in China) and Netflix (up almost 7% after beating earnings expectations and more very bullish analyst sentiment for the streaming giant).
►We see oil, gasoline and natural gas prices lower by more than 1% at the start of regular US trading on Friday - after a very weak week for oil prices (-7%) already.
► Demand concerns remain as China's refinery output also fell for the sixth consecutive month as weak fuel consumption and low refining margins constrained processing. Chinese economic growth improved, but remained below the Chinese growth target of 5%. The rapid adoption of electric vehicles in China continues to raise “concerns” about lower demand for oil from China.
► The militant Lebanese Hezbollah group declared today that it is entering a new and escalating phase of its war against Israel following the killing of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar - however, I see the situation rather improved (at least from Israel's perspective). In addition, after Sinwar's death there will probably be more international pressure on Israel to enter into talks with Hamas / a ceasefire.
► We sell Chevron, which outperformed strongly yesterday and has also strongly outperformed other energy stocks and, in particular, energy prices (and oil prices) this month. Chevron opens 0.3% lower (at around 150.85) - we sell near 151.00*.
🗣️ Tip: Multiply your usual trade size by ~310 - 340 (31.000% - 34.000%) when trading Chevron (CVX).

We traded yesterday's very difficult to trade, volatile market and all key events/data (ECB interest rate decision / US retail sales figures + jobless claims) extremely well and found almost perfect entry points - congratulations! 👏
My day today is filled with meetings - which means I have a little less time to analyze the markets. Our only open position (INTC) closed (near) break-even for us (exactly break-even for me, my entry price was 22.44). Intel is currently trading 0.5% higher in early pre-market US trading.
Michael showed me a post last night from our VIP community member “ThoRoo1965” who asked for the entry range to be displayed more clearly at the top of the signal (if available). We have implemented this change today already.
Many thanks to “ThoRoo1965”. We will continue to improve SmartTrader to ensure that we are not only (by far) the most successful and only fully transparent trading community in the world - but also continue to improve your user experience. Stronger together. Robert

Recommended Entry Range ✅(VIP ONLY)

► We closed our Dow Jones perfectly in anticipation of resistance above 43300.
► We can now (VIP ONLY).
► Retail sales were (VIP ONLY) than they look at first glance given lower (VIP ONLY) and gasoline purchases, sales were actually (VIP ONLY) ...
► We are seeing a slight return of selling in defensive stocks (especially UnitedHealth - the stock with the largest weighting in the Dow Jones). (VIP ONLY) general risk sentiment (VIP ONLY) to extend (VIP ONLY) ...
► Interest rate cut expectations have fallen slightly - which has also led to further gains in the USD and significantly higher yields (gold still managed to reach a new ATH - which shows how strong gold is / boosted by very bullish expectations for the rest of the year / 2025 - But as I said - we are very happy with our gold profit and respect the short-term fundamental headwinds).
🗣️ Tip: Multiply your usual trade size by ~ 3 - 4 (300% - 400%) and trade the Dow Jones (US30)

We found the best possible entry point before the ECB interest rate decision in practically every possible asset (that we could have traded), as the 25 basis points were already priced in.
We set an in-profit SL.
In combination with the strong US economic/labor market data, we continue to see more upside potential for equities. If our SL is triggered, we can find a better re-entry.

❗️ As expected: ECB cuts the interest rate for the deposit facility by 25 basis points to 3.25%.
No major movements as this has been priced in by the markets. There could even be an opposite reaction - “buy the news, sell the event”. This is the first back-to-back rate cut by the ECB in 13 years.

📊 SmartTrader Insights: Thursday Markets Wrap 🗒
📆 Thursday, October 17
❗️ European equities rise ahead of ECB decision; Strong TSMC results; Underwhelming China stimulus announcement
► European stocks edged higher with the Stoxx 600 index rising near 0.4%, but gains were limited due to a drop in mining stocks following stimulus measures from China that investors found underwhelming given ongoing deflation in China. Rio Tinto and Glencore fell as iron ore prices slumped. In addition, Nestle and Nokia disappointed investors, falling after missing earnings estimates. The ECB is expected to cut its benchmark interest rate for the second consecutive meeting today, lowering the interest rate to 3.4% (3.25% deposit rate; both lowered by 25-bp). Germany’s DAX gained over 0.4%, supported by broader positive sentiment in Europe, while France’s CAC 40 rebounded from previous losses, and Italy’s FTSE MIB surged to a four-month high.
► U.S. futures gained, with the Nasdaq 100 climbing over 0.5% after Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSM) delivered strong Q3 earnings, easing concerns about the semiconductor sector. Investors are focused on the Federal Reserve’s upcoming data releases today, including retail sales and jobless claims, for further guidance on interest rate policy. Financial stocks surged in Wednesday’s session after a strong earnings report from Morgan Stanley. Markets await the release of Netflix earnings later today.
► Asian markets were mixed as China’s underwhelming housing market support weighed on sentiment. The CSI 300 index erased early gains, while Japan’s Nikkei slipped 0.65% due to disappointing trade data, including the first decline in exports in 10 months. Meanwhile, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index declined over 1%, and Australia’s ASX 200, however, hit a record high, led by gains in banking stocks. Australia’s unemployment rate remained steady at 4.1%, aligning with expectations.
► Oil prices stabilized at around $70.0/barrel (spot price; $70.50/24 November) after four days of declines as traders weighed the impact of potential production risks in the Middle East and weak economic data from China. The gold price climbed again to near record highs, driven by expectations that gold remains a good investment, economic uncertainties and therefore increased demand for safe havens. Added to this is the expectation of further interest rate cuts by the ECB, Fed and also the BoE after UK inflation already fell to 1.7%. The gold price is trading at above $2,680/oz, close to its all-time high.

We really made all the “right” trades, decisions and predictions - but our position management wasn't quite at the same level. We did close our GBP/USD SHORT slightly in profit - the best FX position you could have taken today - but we see that the pair is now more than 70 (!) pips below our TP.
Similarly with our recent oil shorts (including energy SHORTs) as well as some missed profits/higher potential profits with our EUR/USD (today; excellent trade - could have been shorted on Friday), a missed gold LONG overnight as well as our LONGs in the Nasdaq & Dow Jones - both correct but both not ideal closes (Nasdaq even off-profit). We also missed out on higher potential profits today with Nvidia (very good trade/entry) and Citigroup.
Nevertheless - it is of course whining on a high level, because we can of course be very satisfied with our trades, entries and predictions - but I am too much of a perfectionist not to see it. We still have a success rate of well over 90 % (in our five-week period) - which is of course still unique worldwide (most likely).

We have perfectly hit the turnaround in the EUR/USD, which was a rebound trap. Investors bought the EUR/USD pair on the dip, but now we see that it is falling back to multi-month lows as expected. We are working with a tight SL & TP here.
We also almost perfectly traded the trend reversal in gold - you can secure your profits with an in-profit SL and re-enter in the 2670 - 2672 area if your SL is triggered.
🔰 NYSE OPENING UPDATE 🕯

BUY WHEN NYSE OPENS 🔼 Citigroup (C) 🇺🇸
⏱️ Signal DELAYED by: 35+ (!) minutes! ⚠️⚠️
🔹 The Dow Jones 100 (0.0%) is flat. We found a good entry before the Dow Jones rose above 42800 again. We can raise our TP slightly as we will probably find a re-entry in the 42700 - 42800 range anyway. TP ✅ @: 42877.70. ⚠️ = outdated
🔹 The Nasdaq 100 (+0.2%) is slightly up after yesterday's sharp sell-off in chip stocks and is benefiting from a rebound in Nvidia. The Nasdaq 100 will again be heavily influenced by chip stocks and whether or not Nvidia can see significant dip buying. We are maintaining our price target at ✅ @: 20448.90 and also setting a not-too-wide SL 🔑 @: 20093.40 to protect us from another or potentially returning sharp sell-off in the chip sector. ⚠️ = outdated
🔹 Nvidia (+ 1.6 %) will open significantly higher at almost 134.00 - could see slight further gains, but is also likely to see some waves of profit taking. We are very happy if our TP ✅ @: 134.89 is triggered and tighten our SL 🔑 @: 132.17. Nvidia's performance will be crucial for the Nasdaq 100 today. Bernstein again rates Nvidia as ‘outperform’ - but Nvidia receives positive analyst votes every day. ⚠️ = outdated
► We remain on the optimistic side overall and are buying yesterday's very sharp decline in Citi despite a really strong Q3'24 earnings report due to regulatory concerns. Citigroup, which has performed very well this year, is still really cheap and is even still below tangible book value.
► In my opinion, the regulatory concerns are overblown in the stock price, especially considering Citi is already trading at a large discount to other comparable US banks.
► Citi disappoints in terms of return on tangible equity compared to JPM or Wells Fargo and showed a slight weakness in net interest income (down 1%) – however, the figures were previously strong due to the additional boost from (still) high interest rates.
► Overall, however, I see a lot of positives in Citigroup's earnings report and strength (growth) in all five of Citi's business divisions. We are buying the price decline and find an entry range of 62.50 - 63.00* (or slightly higher, with C opening near 63.40) - we expect Citi to perform well today and make up some of the exaggerated losses from yesterday.
