In some cases we are talking about a 90% genetically Finno-Ugrian population that got Russified. Modern architecture often feels uninspired because it’s driven less by vision and more by cost-cutting. When the people making design decisions prioritize speed and budgets over beauty and durability, we end up with structures that serve a function but lack soul.
Yes, the 19th century had its share of poor-quality buildings too — but those didn’t survive. What remains are the works that were built with care, craftsmanship, and a long-term mindset. Those older structures weren’t just made to work; they were made to last, and to uplift.
We still do this today, but the absolute majority of our projects are highly constrained by budget.

DOGE was a failure, and here's why:
1. Refusing to touch entitlements: Medicare and Medicaid accounted for 40% of all improper government payments in 2023. However, Trump promised not to touch Social Security and other entitlement programs.
2. Misunderstanding of the federal budget: Federal civilian payroll accounts for less than 300 billion dollars. However, the federal regulatory burden is well over 1 trillion dollars. Not to mention Budget reform lies with Congress, not the Executive.
3. Not asking for help: There is an entire industry of economists and auditors dedicated to identifying wasteful spending. DOGE should've brought them on instead of zoomers with zero experience. Not to mention mass layoffs of several inspectors general, exactly the kind of experts who could've been our allies.

Ukraine’s present bimbo identity is almost entirely driven by the desire to differentiate themselves from the backward Russian orcs.
Back in early 2010s they were as homophobic and conservatoid as Russians according to polls.
Pvtler is mistaken to perceive Ukrainians as Nazis because most of them like Bandera. That might be true, but they’ve also shifted significantly to the left on social issues since 2014 and especially after 2022. They’re strongly interlinked with EU bureaucracy and the only thing they’re intolerant towards are Russians and those who peddle “Russian narratives”.
After the war is over, Ukraine will become flooded by Elite South-Asian Capital 🧲💯 and Russians will become the least of their problems.

The main reason Russia isn’t pursuing peace is that its leadership believes it can secure a far more favorable deal if it forces Ukraine and the West to come to the negotiating table out of desperation.
I suspect Putin is preparing a new offensive, likely in the Sumy or Kharkiv regions. The results of that operation will likely provide much more clarity.
At the moment, Russia has little incentive to agree to a fair peace. While war fatigue is growing among ordinary Russians, the country still has the manpower to continue the fight, and its economy and technological base are in a significantly stronger position than in 2022—or even 2024. As one of Russia’s top negotiators put it, “Russia can fight for over 20 years.”
Importantly, the Russian military is not relying on mass conscription but on volunteers, so domestic fatigue has minimal impact on its warfighting ability.
I had expected Russia might have sought a settlement by now, but Trump’s proposed concessions haven’t been sufficient to bring that about. Meanwhile, new sanctions or weapons deliveries are unlikely to change the overall trajectory—though the recent approval of Taurus missiles, F-16s, and the lifting of certain restrictions is certainly a meaningful development for Ukraine.
Still, I believe the ultimate outcome of this war was effectively decided in 2024.
Main opposition to peace in 2022-23 was Ukraine and the West who thought they could beat the Russians on the battlefield. Now this appears to have reversed. In 2024 it was clear that Russia was winning while in 2025 we started talking about for how long can Ukraine sustain the Russian onslaught.
