I watched Obsession (2026) at home after missing the theatrical run. A few points:

First let me say that it is really difficult for a horror movie to reach 7 out of 10 on IMDB, 7.5 out of 10 is exceptionally good horror movie while just a few horror movies have cleared the 8/10 bar and virtually all of them came out last century. Obsession sits in a very rare company.

Second, unlike contemporary movies, the script reads like a classical European fairy-tale even though the setting may be modern. It avoids all of the horror movies cliches and is more a psychological thriller with mystic elements than a horror in the classical sense.

Third, the delivery is simple and original. Everything that matters for the plot is shown, and nothing that doesn't matter is included. Finally, unlike most modern movies, the story doesn't leave you with a hundred competing interpretations. It says what it means and means what it says.

Fourth, despite magic being real in Obsession, the movie looks super-realistic and relatable. The characters act exactly as you would predict and the story acted out exactly as I have predicted it would act. This is probably what hits the most.

Also the movie is directed against vulnerably narcissistic insecure and lonely men and everything Bear does plays into this archetype for which he is getting punished.

Finally, it's my understanding that the demonically possessed version of Nikki basically knew everything when it was spawned into the world and just like Bear played along with the lie, even after it was exposed.

I didn't see anyone else make note of that. I saw a guy who made a video on "how to beat the obsession" argue that they should just be kept apart from one another, without realizing that the wish is a reflection of Bear's obsession with Nikki. It's a creature that he spawned into the world himself, which is why it knew everything about the wish, and why she knew where Sarah was when she killed her.

Once the wish is spawned it can only be de-spawned after death or after another wish from a different person.

My only criticism of the film is that the escalation was too quick and could only be explained with real Nikki trying to fight her way out. Other than that, it's a generational movie and I think I found myself a new favorite director.
