Читать полностью…Definitely. It may not have the apps the the other os 's have but for me the alternatives are not even worth considering. I have had no issues at all. What have you got to lose from trying it
Читать полностью…Yes VoLTE is a big issue in some countries.
But there are supported devices now.
Of course it could be a financial burden.
I wasn't judging.
What you deem essential is objectively not. People lived long before internet and telephone.
But I understand and agree that some apps could appear as essential in our modern world.
I don't compromise and switch bank if one tries to force me to use an app for what a website can do.
But I'm lucky to live in a country where my opinions can be expressed and acknowledge that I'm spoiled just by this simple fact.
i would have needed it on my last trip to the US afaik... had my 4G Android phone with me as backup, and VoLTE saved me on that one a few times.
Читать полностью…How many daily driver people out there require VoLTE?
Читать полностью…The only one at the moment that you can purchase with Ubuntu Touch are the Volla devices.
Soon-ish there will be Brax3, but it's still in development.
So all the above answers are community ports and are used as people stated as daily drivers
I meant not one which did release with Ubuntu touch by manufacturer
Читать полностью…I've been doing that for years so you can guess my answer.
Читать полностью…and setting up is a simple docker compose up -d
xd the rest is in the UI
The authentik one is interesting to me as it offers multiple providers, got oidc, saml AND ldap going—
To tie this back to UT imagine using sssd on UT to use the same password on every device :D
For development purpose I intend to set a self-hosted one.
And for release, yes having the choice for the user would be great if I can offer this. But not sure if it will be possible...
anyone knows how to remove some of the indicators? And also move the clock a little bit
Читать полностью…volte is definitely essential, as a phone that can't make calls is not a phone
Читать полностью…For me its not the financial burden, it's the SAF, which is basically zero for buying another phone
Читать полностью…I'm simply adding to the conversation, for me, I'm not daily driving UT cause my country requires VoLTE to make and receive phone calls, my carrier still has 2G even though they shut down the service (reportedly from a text from them) but my device won't receive phone calls unless I keep it in 2G (which I'm not doing)
Читать полностью…That's not the only reason people wouldn't be daily driving UT, there's scenarios where UT just can't provide the 1 or 2 essential apps, or a feature that just isn't quite there or available yet (i.e. VoLTE) are other reasons
Читать полностью…i'm just guessing here. i suspect it will be more and more need for it on older 4G hardware, right? i have not tried it. i saw there is a setting for it now in my FP4 but the toggle wont toggle...
Читать полностью…It is very much worth it to me. Stable and good basic phone functions, the option to run many linux programs, the privacy and independence it gives. It was a huge relief to make the change for me.
But there are some tradeoffs which only you will know if are worth it.
@parkmin009 Now I'm confused as to what you want to know.
Many people are daily driving Ubuntu Touch, but no many are porters.
There are Qualcomm based devices if that was the question.
There are also Mediatek based ones.
As for the worth of daily driving it, I guess people that do it absolutely find value in it.
As for those who don't that's just because Ubuntu Touch is not for them, they rely on mainstream apps and convenience and don't value their privacy and freedom as much as I do.
Every choice is a trade-off
I haven't fully looked into the options yet, but good to know
Читать полностью…I was thinking an open source one with all that would also be a good option for the people who are hyper conscious about their security (i.e. they don't trust anything that they can't physically touch)
Читать полностью…ok, it will require testing when we get to that point
Читать полностью…For the Tesla app, it might be worth having a toggle for a custom Oauth if since there are a few options
