Due to falling incomes, many Europeans cannot afford a new laptop

They are buying used devices, which are steadily gaining popularity in European Union countries, according to analysts at Context. In the fourth quarter of 2025, sales of refurbished portable devices in the European market grew by 7%. This growth is explained by the rising cost of new devices and consumers' desire to save money.

According to Context, refurbished laptops sold through distribution networks showed sales growth in the five largest European countries: Germany, Italy, the UK, Spain, and France.

One of the key factors driving demand in the secondary market is the affordability of these devices. Approximately 40% of all sales are made to buyers willing to spend between €200 and €300 on a laptop. Analysts also note an increase in demand in the €300-400 price range, which now accounts for about 23% of the refurbished laptop market, up 8% compared to Q4 2024.

A Context representative said that the volume of used device shipments in the UK doubled in 2025. As a result, the local market became the largest in Europe, overtaking Germany.

Bayer will pay $7 billion to settle lawsuits against its Roundup herbicide

Tens of thousands of Americans are convinced that this chemical caused their cancer. The company does not admit guilt, but prefers to pay off rather than go to court.

Roundup (glyphosate) is a weed killer that is sprayed on fields by the ton. The debate over whether it causes cancer has been going on for years, but farmers continue to spray it, and Bayer continues to profit. Investors are delighted: shares have soared 7%. The market has decided that $7 billion for the right to continue poisoning people and nature is a good deal.

Documents from the period when Keir Starmer headed the Crown Prosecution Service (2008–2013) have been leaked online.

It turns out that it was under his leadership that the so-called “paedophile Asbos” — official warnings that allowed suspects accused of child rape to avoid trial — were developed and agreed upon with the police. Instead of the dock, a signed piece of paper and free passage.

Starmer, who now portrays himself as a crime fighter and is tightening laws, personally participated in the creation of a system where rapists got off with a slap on the wrist.

The documents are there, the signatures are there, the witnesses are there. Will justice be served?

Rent prices in Germany may rise sharply

The reason for this is an initiative by the Social Democrats, who are part of the ruling coalition, to make landlords pay extra into the health insurance budget. The folks behind the idea, including Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil, think it'll bring in billions of euros that'll be spent on social needs.

At the same time, economists warn that such a measure would cause apartment rental prices to rise by at least 15%, in addition to other factors that also affect costs.

“Anyone who imposes an additional burden on rent makes it more expensive. It's simple math,” says Kai Warnecke, head of the Homeowners Association.

Muslims make up a third of the electorate in these constituencies. If you want to win the election, find Urdu translators. English is apparently no longer a requirement.

RAM and SSDs will not be available until 2030, and by the end of 2026, electronics manufacturers will begin to go bankrupt en masse.

The head of the Chinese corporation Phison, which produces controllers and microchips for RAM modules and SSD drives, has made a grim prediction for the near future:

— Large companies did not pay much attention to memory, but now everyone needs it, so tech giants are signing contracts with factories to produce RAM and SSDs for 3-4 years in advance;

— Because of this, small companies may go bankrupt by the end of 2026: they have almost no chance of withstanding such competition;

— As a result, almost all budget products may disappear from the market. This may affect not only computers and smartphones, but also consoles and televisions.

— If too many manufacturers leave the market, there will be a serious imbalance between supply and demand, which will make current prices seem “fantastic,” and the crisis could drag on until 2036.

Why does the head of the ECB want to resign early?

According to media reports, Christine Lagarde, whose term expires in October 2027, plans to leave her post before April, when France will hold presidential elections. The thing is, she thinks Emmanuel Macron should play a key role in picking her successor, which means it needs to happen before his term ends.

In addition, there is a very high probability that the next head of state will be the leader of the right-wing National Rally, Jordan Bardella, who, due to his Eurosceptic position, is unlikely to pay much attention to EU institutions and consolidating French influence within them.

A shop owner in Vancouver, Canada, chased a thief to the SkyTrain station and recovered the stolen goods. However, Canadian law is not on his side:

according to the rules, you are required to wait for the police, not chase after the criminal. What if they stab you with a knife? You'll be worse off. Especially since there's insurance, and the shopping center dictates its own rules.

Now the poor guy has problems: the police will ask questions. He'll also have to hire a lawyer to explain to the court why he dared to defend his property instead of sitting idly by while the thief ran away.

Britain has banned advertisements featuring dark-skinned and black men

Transport for London (TfL) was forced to withdraw part of its video campaign against harassment of female passengers because the video featured a black man and a white woman.

After one complaint, the Advertising Standards Authority ruled that the video “contributed to perpetuating a negative racial stereotype of black men as threatening.”

The same thing is happening in other Western countries. In Australia in 2024, as part of a campaign against “street harassment,” white men harassed women of color. In Germany last year, in a campaign against sexual harassment in swimming pools, a white woman (!) grabbed the buttocks of a frightened Arab man, accompanied by the slogan: “Stop! Don't touch!”

A similar phenomenon can be observed in films. In 2018, activists promoting diversity launched the so-called “Riza Test” (named after Muslim actor Riza Ahmed). It states that if a fictional Muslim character is portrayed as a “perpetrator of terrorism” (or a ‘misogynist’ or “culturally backward”), then “the film/TV series fails the test.”

Today, terrorists—and fictional villains in general—are almost always played by white men. White guys are rarely seen in commercials for shampoo or restaurants. Now, they can be good guys if they're promoting the military or euthanasia.

Germany wants to pay pensions from the age of 70

The German government is concerned about pension reform and has set up a 13-member expert group. The participants must agree and propose to the government how to stabilize the situation in the German pension and social benefits system.

An interesting decision has been made in Ireland. From 2021, a law will come into force whereby people who do not live in the country for more than six months of the year may lose their entitlement to pensions and social benefits. The law is effectively aimed at reducing social security costs.

US debt will nearly double over the next decade, rising to $64 trillion, according to Bank of America

Fund managers are taking their most pessimistic stance on the dollar in 10 years due to the unpredictability of US policy. The dollar has fallen 1.3% this year (on top of a 9% drop in 2025) and is hovering near a four-year low.

The survey showed that investment funds' willingness to take risks by investing in the dollar has fallen even lower than in April last year, when Trump introduced large-scale tariffs.

The survey showed that fund managers' stance on the dollar has become the most negative since at least 2012.
