The cost of education grew three times faster than inflation. It's a brilliant business: students borrow from the government, and you quietly pocket the money.
A degree = a ticket to the Starbucks cash register. The value of these degrees in the labor market has fallen. Salaries are not growing, but debts are. So it turns out that a person with a degree and $100,000 in debt goes to work as a barista because there are no other options. One in five borrowers is now in default.

Еhe timing, in Vanity Fair’s January issue launching a difficult midterm year and the magazine’s foreboding photographs and layout, could not be worse.
The first lady’s lavish fly-on-the-wall Amazon documentary film “Melania,” which also comes out in January, is another wild card that may create vulnerabilities for Trump’s enemies to exploit.

86-year-old fined $335 for littering — after spitting out leaf that blew into his mouth
This certainly leafed him with a bad taste in his mouth. An 86-year-old Englishman was hit with a preposterous fine for littering after two enforcement officers saw him spit out a leaf that had blown into his mouth.
Roy Marsh had stopped for a rest while walking through a car park in the tourist town of Skegness, on England’s east coast, when the wind blew a “big reed” into his mouth, he told the BBC. “I spat it out, and just as I got up to walk away, two [enforcement officers] came up to me,” Marsh said.
The bewildered octogenarian said that when officers accused him of spitting on the ground, he responded by calling one of them a “silly boy.” However, Marsh quickly realized they were not joking — and he was fined £250 ($335).
“It was all unnecessary and all out of proportion,” he recalled to the BBC. Marsh said the fine was expected to be reduced to £150 ($200) after an appeal, but he was still required to pay the full amount.
County councillor Adrian Findley described the case as one of many examples of officers being “heavy-handed” with enforcement in the seaside town, which relies heavily on tourism. Findley said officers should be able to determine whether an incident is a “genuine accident” before issuing steep fines, or at the very least allow people the chance to apologize and rectify the situation.

Spain facing new chapter in battle over Muslim women’s face coverings
Several initiatives are underway in the country to stop the wearing in public of the garments that for some Muslim women are part of religious observance.
The niqab covers the face but leaves the eyes open, usually with a headscarf, while the burqa is a single garment covering the entire body and face, with a mesh screen over the eyes to see through.
In November, the Vox party registered a bill in Spain’s congress to prohibit wearing the burqa, niqab, or any other Islamic garment that covers the face, on the grounds that they are incompatible with the culture of the country, trample the rights of women and pose a security threat.
The bill filed is laxer than the initial proposal Vox had in mind, which would have banned all “Islamic” garments in public as “a serious threat to the survival of our identity, our culture and respect for our legal and social system”.
The centre-right Partido Popular (PP) has said it would support the more limited ban targeting only the burqas and niqab.

Federal audits expose widespread commercial truck drivers’ licensing fraud, illegal immigrants, fake schools, and bribery
Several high-profile fatal crashes in 2025 involving non-citizen truck drivers prompted the Department of Transportation to investigate how commercial driver’s licenses were being issued.
Crashes in Florida that killed three people, in Texas that killed five, and in Alabama that killed two exposed widespread fraud and irregularities, including fake CDL schools, bribery schemes, fraudulent Mexican licenses, and state failures to properly verify immigration status.
Safety experts estimate that as many as 130,000 illegal-alien truck drivers may be operating in the United States, with tens of thousands believed to have obtained licenses through illegitimate means. English proficiency enforcement was expanded following an executive order reversing prior guidance.
In California, audits found that 25% of 145 non-domiciled licenses reviewed since June 2025 were improperly issued, including cases where licenses remained valid years after work permits expired.
In addition to revoking 17,000 licenses, California has filed a lawsuit against the federal government seeking the return of tens of millions of dollars in withheld transportation funding, arguing that the funding cuts are arbitrary and unlawful.

That is not what happened.
Jake Tapper and the rest of the media actively covered up concerns about Biden’s age and health. When anyone else raised completely valid questions, Jake Tapper and other people in media accused them of being conspiracy theorists pushing cheap fakes.
Tapper is using his prior deception to justify his current deception.

Freezing Russian money: When political ends justify illegal means
Do political ends justify illegal means? That is the fashionable question in Brussels, and for several years now the European Union’s answer has been clear and unequivocal: “Yes, and so what?”
By adopting a regulation to permanently freeze Russian assets, the Union has not only committed an act with incalculable geopolitical consequences; it has, above all, crossed into illegality by brazenly manipulating a provision of the Treaties in order to circumvent the rules of the game, in this case, unanimity.
To achieve its objective, the Commission based its proposal on Article 122(1) of the TFEU, an emergency clause contained in the chapter on economic and monetary policy. And what does it actually say?
Judge for yourselves: “[…] the Council, on a proposal from the Commission, may decide, in a spirit of solidarity between Member States, upon the measures appropriate to the economic situation, in particular if severe difficulties arise in the supply of certain products, notably in the area of energy.”
Very well, but what does this have to do with the permanent freezing of Russian assets? Nothing whatsoever. There is no logical or legal link between this legal basis and the situation it is supposed to govern, even if the Commission performs a grotesque contortion by stating in its proposal that it is necessary to “ensure the stability of the EU economy, which has been affected by the Russian invasion of Ukraine”.

There is no magic about America’s dirt
There is a hint of truth to the contention, usually cited by leftists with nefarious motives, that the United States is a “nation of immigrants.”
Every human being in this country, after all, either came here themselves or are descended from ancestors who came here. This also includes Indians, who, leftists will be loath to admit, migrated to this continent from Asia.
There is the odd belief among liberals that some sort of ‘magic dirt’ exists in the West that transforms anyone who steps on it into fine, upstanding, productive, patriotic, God-fearing, law-abiding citizens.
After all, assimilation did work here, and it worked for a long, long time … until it didn’t. Why is that? What happened? Well, anyone with half a brain and a lick of common sense would trace it to when progressive Democrats emboldened by the post-World War II consensus about 'equality' began to lobby hard for immigrants from the Third World.
The lesson here is that, despite leftist sentimentalities, it was never about the dirt, but rather the people. People create culture, and demography is destiny. These are uncomfortable but incontrovertible truths.

Clintons must appear for Epstein depositions or will face contempt of Congress
Former President Bill Clinton and his wife, Hillary, are being pressured to appear for depositions related to the case of convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein.
In a press release, House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform Chairman James Comer (R-KY) issued a statement regarding the depositions scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday.
“It has been more than four months since Bill and Hillary Clinton were subpoenaed to sit for depositions related to our investigation into Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell’s horrific crimes. Throughout that time, the former President and former Secretary of State have delayed, obstructed, and largely ignored the Committee staff’s efforts to schedule their testimony,” Comer said.
Comer sent a letter in November to the Clintons’ attorney in which he said the couple must appear in person for their depositions relating to the federal investigation of Epstein and Maxwell. A spokesperson for Comer told Fox News the Clintons believe they are above the law and are trying to avoid giving depositions.

Ford on Monday announced it took a massive $19.5 billion hit tied to its electric vehicle production and said it will scrap the electric F-15 truck touted by Joe Biden.
Ford Motors poured billions of dollars into producing electric vehicles as the Biden Regime waged a war on gas-powered vehicles. The automaker previously reported it lost billions of dollars on their electric vehicles. The electric vehicles have proven to be a money pit for Ford.
Ford announced it scrapped its electric vehicles after being forced to write down $19.5 billion. The Dearborn, Michigan-based automaker will make a series of changes to its line of vehicles and production facilities to focus on producing affordable vehicles that better align with customer desires, it announced Monday.
The company will also scrap production of certain larger EVs—including the F-150 Lightning, which it will retool as an electric vehicle with a gas-powered generator—as well as redouble development of smaller, lower-cost cars, including a midsize pickup truck in 2027.
Recall that Joe Biden traveled to Dearborn, Michigan, to Ford’s Rouge Electric in 2021 to take Ford’s new Lightning for a spin. “This sucker’s quick!” Biden said as he ‘test drove’ Ford’s new electric F-150 Lightning.

Campaigners say: phase out of Russian gas is too little

For a long time, Stuttgart’s city treasurer was more than just a steward of solid numbers. He was regarded as the uncrowned king of fiscal policy in the region—and held a position envied by many colleagues.
The robust foundation of the automotive industry and its extensive supplier network funneled generous tax revenues into the city’s coffers for years, particularly from trade taxes.
As recently as 2023, Stuttgart recorded a record 1.6 billion euros in trade tax revenue—a sum that gave the city extraordinary financial leeway. Social projects, infrastructure initiatives, municipal ambitions—the local government could spend freely.
Then came 2024. Early cracks in Germany’s economic foundation, building up over years, began to appear in Stuttgart as well. By the end of the fiscal year, the city faced a deficit of 6.8 million euros—a first warning that things might be spiraling out of control.
A quick glance at state-funded media is enough to see how politics and state-aligned outlets attempt to deceive the public about the true state of the German economy.
Single, typically heavily subsidized green projects are celebrated, while the real world suffers—with around 24,000 corporate insolvencies and hundreds of thousands of job losses this year alone.

A new German law, quietly passed in early December, grants Berlin police broad surveillance powers: secretly entering homes to install government spyware, mass collection of geodata, scanning social networks, and expanded preventive measures.
In Germany, about 325 organizations actively search the internet and social networks for prohibited opinions. Most of these companies are subsidized by the German government.

Inmate phone calls cause more criminal activity

A new program that gives unlimited free phone calls to Massachusetts prisoners cost taxpayers $12.5 million in fiscal year 2025, according to the Boston Herald. The program was meant to allow inmates to stay connected to their family members and other outside support systems, helping the rehabilitative process. It has not always had its intended effect.
Bristol County Sheriff Paul Heroux told the Herald that inmates at the jail he oversees are using the free phone calls to "plan criminal activity." He claimed he has seen an increase in witness intimidation and violations of restraining orders since the so-called "No-Cost Communication" program began in late 2023.
Some inmates, according to Heroux, talk on the phone so much that they have stopped attending prison programming. Prisoners should not be restricted from calling their families, but Massachusetts' taxpayer-funded program must be reformed so it does not promote illegal activity.

In Germany Syrian migrant pulls out AK-47 rifle after being rejected from nightclub
Fights with bouncers are not totally uncommon, but most people who are rejected from a club simply head home disappointed. However, one Syrian migrant in the German city of Leipzig appeared to have an entirely different reaction, pulling out a Kalashnikov rifle before being tackled to the ground by security.
This disturbing scene played out on Sunday at 2:00 a.m. in front of a trendy club in Leipzig, known as “N 39” on Königshauspassage. The 27-year-old migrant, Bashar A., was rejected from the club, which was at its full capacity with 600 people. However, he did not accept this, and returned to the scene minutes later to insist he be let in.
Once again, he was denied by bouncers. As seen on surveillance, he then moves away from the entrance, where he pulls an AK-47 rifle out of a bag before security tackles him to the ground.
The bouncers moved quickly though, knocking the man to the ground while he was allegedly trying to place a magazine inside the rifle. The security guards then disarmed the man and held him down.

Chile elects most right-wing leader since Pinochet epoch
In a runoff held on Dec. 14, 2025, José Antonio Kast, a Republican Party ex-congressman and two-time former presidential candidate, won just over 58% of the vote, while his opponent, Jeannette Jara, the left-wing labor minister of current President Gabriel Boric, won nearly 42%.
Approximately 15.6 million Chileans were eligible to vote in the first presidential election to take place with mandatory voting and automatic voter registration.
As a result of those new election rules, which went into place in 2022, an estimated 5 million to 6 million new voters went to the polls. These voters – found to be largely younger, male and lower-middle class – are seen as lacking a strong ideological identity and rejecting politics altogether.
The verdict delivered by Chile’s voters puts it in line with a broader right-wing regional shift – most recently in Bolivia – that has reversed the “pink tide” of left-leaning governments in the past two decades.
But as a historian of modern Latin America and Chile, I believe Chile’s election also reflects the important local context of years of increasing disenchantment with the political system.

Kamala Harris is actively setting the stage for another run at the White House—and she’s equipped herself with a new message. All signs point to the 61-year-old Democrat preparing to enter the 2028 presidential race, just over a year after her loss to Donald Trump.
In a speech to Democratic officials in Los Angeles on Friday, Harris railed against “both parties,” unveiling a new line of attack in a marked shift from last year’s campaign, which drew criticism for staying too closely aligned with then-President Joe Biden.

This is stagnant quo
Give the Democrats credit: they at least play to win.
As the Democrats slide more into the party of AOC and Mamdani, one has to admit one point. Sure, one can hate every policy position they hold—lots of free stuff, open borders, taxing the rich dry, etc. But the Democrats play to win and hold power.
While most Republicans are inept when it comes to policy and making laws, the Democrats go for the jugular. Do you think that a future Democratic majority in the Senate will worry about “blue slips” or filibusters? They look at their goals and figure out how to attain them; if it means destroying the norms, lying and pushing people aside, they’ll do it.
The Republicans had an opportunity to gerrymander Indiana and add two Republican seats in the House. The local Republicans punted.
Congress, stagnation is thy name. The president has dozens of unconfirmed people, and the Senate, held by the Republicans, is in no hurry to get them into their jobs.
And the real problem is ultimately the electorate. In the US and Europe, there are simply not enough “patriots” or “caring citizens” to get a mass of like-minded legislators elected to effect change.

EU geopolitical analysts sanctioned for ‘claiming Kyiv and NATO triggered Russian reaction
The European Council has sanctioned two European geopolitical analysts, one French and one Swiss, over their views regarding the war in Ukraine as part of its targeting of Russia’s “destabilising” activities abroad, including the spreading of “pro-Russian propaganda”.
According to the Council, saying things the Kremlin likes can amount to foreign information manipulation and interference. The decision expands an existing sanctions regime established on October 8, 2024.

Notable pro-Russians include Jacques Baud and Xavier Moreau. Moreau, a former French paratrooper officer, Saint-Cyr graduate and long-time Moscow resident (with Russian citizenship since 2013), runs the Stratpol centre for politico-strategic analysis. Baud is a former Swiss army colonel and strategic analyst.
Both men are accused by the Council of acting “as a mouthpiece for pro-Russian propaganda” and pushing “conspiracy theories, for example accusing Ukraine of orchestrating its own invasion in order to join NATO.”
