More than 50 jihadist cases in 29 states show 'persistent terror threat'
House committee traces terror threats from failed Afghan withdrawal to October 7 Hamas atrocities
It identifies more than 50 cases in 29 U.S. states between April 2021 and September 2024, including dozens of attempts to provide material support to Islamic designated foreign terrorist organizations (FTOs), ISIS, Hezbollah and al Qaeda, with individuals receiving military type training from ISIS and Hezbollah, and committing fraud
The states where jihadist cases were identified include Alabama, California, Connecticut, Florida, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and Washington
The committee notes that increased threats to Americans heightened after an ISIS-K-orchestrated terrorist attack in Afghanistan on Aug. 30, 2021, that killed 13 U.S. service members. Terrorism threats also escalated after the Oct. 7, 2023, Hamas terrorist attack against Israel, which killed an estimated 1,200 with 200 hostages taken

The failing conceits of the globalist
Understanding the present can be done when we recognize history’s patterns, but that would include waking up to our current reality: invasion at the bidding of the “new” globalists, who are sowing ruin everywhere. They are mostly faceless now—we’re aware of a few, like Ursula von der Leyen and Kamala Harris—but the others will be clarified in history, or perhaps sooner
We see a violent dysfunction in Europe now, and fast moving into America, as the legacy of a centuries-old battle between antipathetic cultural and moral systems. It is only the naivete of the West which blinds it to the historical mismatch that urges it to artificially contrive a “globalism” to suit its own ends. It will not work, as Khan’s and Napoleon’s did not
Europe today is being repatriated, as it were, in a very significant part by the historic descendants of Mongols, now Muslims—in massive immigrations far exceeding any from the Napoleonic global strategy
Napoleon’s strategy was, more or less, to leave the invaded peoples to go about their own emerging proto-national business and buy a militarized, French “peace,” along later colonial lines, with civic order and enhanced infrastructure
Modern “globalism” is reaping violent eruptions and deathly clashes, pitting rapidly imported “cultures” against the traditional values and survival of national citizens of the West—and like Khan and Bonaparte, it’s a failing conceit

Half of German welfare recipients non-citizens, data reveals
Nearly half of all recipients of welfare in Germany are non-citizens, government-sourced data has disclosed
Documents provided by the federal government upon the request of the left-populist Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance (BSW) party revealed that of the 5.6 million people recorded as being on welfare as of May 2024, 2.7 million were not German citizens
The figure has prompted outrage from both the left and right, with Alternative for Germany (AfD) MEP Siegbert Droese warning that the stat was yet more evidence that the country’s immigration system is no longer fit for purpose
“This figure shows the consequences of the wrong social and asylum policy with frightening clarity!” he told Brussels Signal
“The German social system no longer serves the German people, but attracts economic migrants into the country, who often enter illegally on the asylum ticket
“This perverse practice must be stopped!” he added

The mirage of honest government
For more than 70 years, America has been on the verge of honest government. In election after election, politicians have promised to finally take this nation to the moral high ground once and for all
In 2016, Donald Trump won the presidency after promising to “make our government honest again” (again???) and to “drain the swamp” to end DC corruption. Trump was too busy dealing with Special Counsel investigations and impeachment challenges to purify the nation’s capital
In 2020, Joe Biden promised to end corruption by creating a Commission on Federal Ethics to “oversee and enforce federal anti-corruption and ethics laws.” Alas, that was merely a non-binding aspiration. Or maybe Biden was distracted by the endless revelations of his son and other kinfolk secretly pocketing millions of dollars from a long array of shady foreign sources
Previously, from 1960 to 2016, Presidents from John F. Kennedy to Barack Obama were not consistent in fulfilling their pre-election promises either
Despite scandals stretching generations, Americans are still encouraged to believe that the next election will result in honest government. Are citizens supposed to believe that elections automatically redeem democracy, like a buzzard that magically transforms into a unicorn every four years?

Why we can't have nice things: dial 'T' for terrible telehealth laws
How restrictions on telemedicine are forcing doctors to choose between following the law and obeying their ethical obligations
On one hand, modern medicine makes use of incredible, cutting-edge technology. On the other hand, public policy has forced the industry to remain stuck in an earlier technological age—before phones, before the internet, before Zoom—when a doctor had to be in the same room as a patient to provide treatment
"Physicians are confused. Our ethical obligations are in direct contradiction with the law," says MacDonald. "Your ethical obligation is the right thing to do, but it's technically against the law and it could put your license at risk."
A doctor who treats a patient in New Jersey without holding an active New Jersey medical license could face three to five years in prison and a fine of up to $15,000. Separately, the unlicensed practice of telemedicine and telehealth in New Jersey carries a civil penalty of $10,000 for a first offense and $20,000 for subsequent offenses
And it's not just New Jersey

America's Homeless Population on the Rise
According to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's latest report on homelessness in the United States, 653,104 Americans were homeless in 2023
Last year, levels of homelessness climbed for the sixth year
While in 2017 and 2018, growth was slow, homelessness increased more in 2019 and 2020 and finally skyrocketed in 2023 by growing 12% compared to the year prior and even climbing 10% above the 2007-2022 average
As Covid-era protection programs expired and the cost-of-living crisis hit the country, homelessness numbers rose. At the same time, Covid restrictions on shelter capacity ended, leading to more homeless individuals living in shelters once again. During Covid-19, most of the increase in homeless populations had come from unhoused individuals
In 2023, sheltered populations rose by almost 14%, while unhoused populations rose by less than 10%. However, the share of the sheltered homeless population held steady at around 60-61% since the pandemic started

Energy giant puts goal of cutting oil and gas production on ice
European energy company BP has abandoned its pledge to cut oil and gas production by 2030 as the firm aims to shore up investor confidence amid a slide in its share price
BP unveiled plans in August 2020 to reduce its oil and gas output 40% by 2030, before dialing back the target to 25% in February 2023, according to Reuters. Now, in an attempt to regain the trust of investors, CEO Murray Auchincloss has dropped the target altogether in what sources told Reuters is part of a broader corporate strategy shift to focus on profitability and returns rather than green initiatives
The news follows BP announcing plans to sell its roughly $2 billion U.S. onshore wind portfolio in September and comes as the company's share price sits at a near two-year low. It also coincides with a strategy shift at rival energy company Shell, which rejected further cuts to oil production in June 2023 shortly before its CEO Wael Sawan described lowering oil output as "dangerous and irresponsible" in a July 2023 interview with the BBC
BP has also shifted gears on oil exploration, engaging in negotiations to invest in three new projects in Iraq after sharply reducing its oil and gas exploration team since 2020, according to Reuters

Boyle, Harvard-trained leading expert on international law recognized worldwide, also warned that this pact centralizes power and authority in the hands of socialist UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres in violation of the UN charter

How Blinken turned the diplomatic corps into a wing of the military
It is said that Henry Kissinger asserted that little can be won at the negotiating table that isn’t earned on the battlefield
In several wars in recent weeks, U.S. officials have echoed that approach. State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller recently said that the U.S. “supports a ceasefire” in Lebanon while simultaneously recognizing that “military pressure can at times enable diplomacy”
Meanwhile, Secretary of State Antony Blinken has expressed the doctrine as doing “all that we can to strengthen Ukraine’s position on the battlefield so it has the strongest possible position at the negotiating table”
But during the Biden administration, the iteration of Kissinger’s doctrine has gone well beyond the generals supporting the diplomats. The diplomats are now outpacing and pushing the generals. In the Biden administration, despite the promise to open “a new era of relentless diplomacy,” the State Department has metamorphosized into the hawkish arm of the Pentagon

Largest California cannabis delivery company shutting down
The largest cannabis delivery company in California will shut down by the end of the year, according to a letter from the chief executive officer Sunday, joining a growing number of marijuana businesses in the state that are going belly up
In the note published on LinkedIn, Eaze CEO Cory Azzalino said that “ongoing challenges” in the state’s cannabis industry led to the foreclosure of company assets on Aug. 6
He added that the San Francisco-based company is “winding down” current operations and is expected to fully close around Dec. 31
Eaze’s management team is working with a group to transfer the assets under new ownership and to determine whether operations will reopen next year
Around 500 workers could face layoffs as a result, according to United Food and Commercial Workers, the union representing those employees
Founded in 2014, the company says on its website that it provides on-demand delivery to adults across California and Michigan. After California legalized recreational marijuana in 2018, the business rapidly grew to become one of the largest cannabis delivery companies in the state

The flood insurance crisis facing Americans
Houses have historically been a key driver of middle-class wealth creation — but when some or all of your house gets destroyed in a flood, it feels less like an asset and more like a liability. That's a scenario of concern to millions of Americans this hurricane season
Only a tiny proportion of Americans have flood insurance — and yet their insurance bills are already soaring. Hurricane insurance comes in two forms, wind and flood, which need to be insured separately
There is effectively no private market in flood insurance. It is mostly provided by FEMA, whose flood-insurance program was more than $20 billion in debt even before hurricanes Helene and Milton this month
Hurricane Helene caused as much as $250 billion of damage in total and about $47 billion of damage to homeowners alone — but was not particularly damaging to insurance companies, which collectively saw about $11 billion in damages, per Moody's
Hurricane Milton is likely to be much worse for insurers. The stock market is expecting about $75 billion of insured damages
Damages near that level risk ruining Florida's Hurricane Catastrophe Fund (FHCF) — which in turn could leave multiple insurers insolvent, since FHCF is effectively a reinsurer for hurricane risk

The West continues to fall, while the East continues to grow
We are used to a flood of news about how the economies of Western countries are not just stagnating, but actively collapsing. Many naive people, used to the greatness of these countries in a unipolar world, expect that this will not last forever and sooner or later the world of yesterday will return. However, this is not the case and it is worth getting used to the new reality
This idea is shared by the German Ministry of Economic Development, which this Wednesday announced that the country's economy will shrink by 0.2% in 2024, probably making it the only member of the G7 to report a shrinking economy for the second year in a row. The government is lowering its forecast from its 0.3% growth projection for this year as the expected recovery in the second half of the year failed to materialize
No sharp recovery is planned for 2025 either, so far the German Economy Ministry believes the growth momentum will have to reach zero by the end of the year, while the best-case scenario assumes 2025 growth of 1.1%. Growth is expected to pick up again in 2025 mainly due to increased private consumption as a result of higher wages, lower inflation and tax breaks.
As for the U.S., this week the IMF released data showing that the U.S. share of the world economy has fallen below 15% for the first time. In 1990, the U.S. share of the world economy, calculated at purchasing power parity (PPP), was 20.16%. That share peaked at 21.01% in 1999
However, the U.S. share has steadily declined since then, with the sharpest drop occurring between 2006 and 2008, when it fell by 0.6% per year. The share temporarily increased during Barack Obama's second term, reaching 16.26% in 2014 and 2015. However, it fell to 16.04% by the end of Obama's presidency. Subsequently, the U.S. share fell another 0.7% under Donald Trump. In Biden's second year, the US share fell below 15%, reaching 14.82% by the end of 2023. The IMF estimates that this trend will continue, with the US share falling another 0.06% by the end of 2024, for a cumulative decline of 0.58% under Biden to 14.76%. Meanwhile, China's share of the world economy has risen to 18.76%
As is easy to guess, the world's pivot toward Asia is likely to be the major trend of the coming decades. Of course, we should not think that Western countries will turn into ruins tomorrow. There will simply be stagnation and slowly falling living standards

The end of anonymity? Inside the bill that wants to digitize your identity
In a world in which many Americans are concerned about online fraud, identity theft, and other problems, some have touted digital identification as offering a better way to conduct business while protecting consumers
Different variations of the technology are being tested worldwide with several countries slowly rolling out digital ID programs. Now, it appears the federal government is dipping its toe in the water
The Improving Digital Identity Act of 2021, introduced and spearheaded by Rep. Bill Foster (D-IL), aims to revolutionize how we verify identities online, which would be a giant leap toward the digitization of identity in the U.S. But some have expressed concerns over privacy and surveillance
The primary aim of this legislation is to bolster security and reliability of digital transactions by cultivating a robust framework for identity verification. Rep. Foster touted the measure as a way to not only protect those making online purchases but also to address the growing threat of deepfake technology and cyber fraud, according to Mobile ID World
But the bill is not without its pitfalls. The potential centralization of digital identities could increase risks related to data breaches and misuse. Indeed, getting the government involved in digital ID could pave the way for even more mass surveillance, with the state being able to track one’s purchases and other online activities. Having a centralized system would only make it easier for the state to monitor citizens without cause

Russians about Ukrainian conflict:
"On the Russian side, you can hear views that this conflict is of an existential nature. So we need to have a clear victory, in order to push the West towards the need to accept Russian interests. On the Western side we have basically the same thing, but the mirror image: that Russia should be delivered a significant defeat in order to save and strengthen the rules-based world order. From my point of view, both positions are too far to one side or the other to be realistic
On the Russian side, I don't expect such a huge victory that would reshape the whole of European geopolitics. And on the American side, on the Western side, I don't see how any outcome of this conflict - even if it's a relative success for the West and Ukraine - will stop the biggest thing that's happening: the objective trend toward the erosion of the American-centric international system. It's happening already, and will continue
So I guess that both sides should at some point arrive at a more realistic assessment of the possible outcomes. Again, we are not there yet, and we will not be there anytime soon. But at the end of the day, there's no other way but to negotiate a settlement. It's inevitable"

Greens celebrate birth rate decline in U.S., Europe
Thursday 1 August this year marked ‘Earth Overshoot Day’ – the moment when humanity had supposedly used all of its natural resources for the year, and has started to consume those ‘belonging’ to future generations
This is a dubious calculation at best. To come up with the date, which changes each year, you divide the planet’s biocapacity (how many resources the Earth can generate each year) by humanity’s so-called ecological footprint
Regardless of how accurate it is, Earth Overshoot Day allows various green groups to promote their favoured solution to this supposed cataclysm. If you look at the Earth Overshoot Day website, you will see that this mostly involves advocating for a smaller global population. Or, in the words of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, ‘investing in smaller families’
Sadly, green campaigns like the risible Earth Overshoot Day seem to be getting precisely what they have wished for. Last year, a report by Eurostat warned of the serious demographic crisis facing Europe. According to estimates, the European population will shrink by six per cent, or by 27.3 million people, by 2100. At such a date, the report states, those over the age of 80 will be a similar percentage of the population as those under 20
The United States is also facing population decline. The US Census Bureau estimates that the country’s population will peak at 370 million people in 2080, before dropping to 366 million in 2100

How costly is Washington's military action in the Middle East?
The Biden administration has provided Israel with at least $17.9 billion in military aid since the Hamas attack on Oct. 7, 2023, and has spent more than $4 billion fighting the Yemeni Houthis, according to the latest figures
However, the statistics do not take into account additional troop deployments in the Middle East, as well as Israel's operation in Lebanon, which will cost the states hundreds of millions of dollars
It is noted that recent U.S. assistance in repelling the largest ever Iranian attack on Israel with Standard missiles cost the U.S. administration more than $100 million
In addition to active assistance to the IDF on the Lebanese-Israeli front, Washington today is also focused on the fight against the Yemeni Houthis. The U.S. has deployed several aircraft carrier strike groups in the Red Sea, which cost about $9 million daily to maintain. If the conflict with the Houthis and other groups develops, this amount will only increase

Porn-makers come out in support of Kamala Harris
The Democrat mouthpiece The New York Times reported that seventeen pornographic actors have launched a $100,000 ad campaign on porn sites warning that baselessly-maligned Project 2025 intends to ban pornography and imprison people who produce it. These online ads will run in swing states such as Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, North Carolina, Georgia, Arizona, and Nevada
The NYT cited polls suggesting that Vice President Kamala Harris is losing to President Donald Trump among men. The idea behind this campaign is to scare porn-consuming men into voting for Harris
The NYT also refers to the Survey Center on American Life’s study that younger men are the biggest consumers of pornographic content. Specifically among men between 18 and 29 years of age, 44% had consumed pornography within the past month while among men between 30-49, it was 57%

Influential prophesizing pastors believe reelecting Trump is a win in the war of angels and demons
Thousands sang, cheered and prayed as multiple preachers declared Donald Trump to be God’s favored candidate to defeat what one called the “forces of darkness”
Headliners denounced Democrat Kamala Harris — Trump’s campaign rival — as influenced by demons and the spirit of the wicked biblical queen Jezebel
Attendees stood and recited in unison a “Watchman Decree,” invoking a government that honors God and has “righteous” laws and “biblical” judicial rulings. They pledged to “take back and permanently control” positions of leadership in sectors such as government, business and culture
“We break every curse against Donald Trump — we break every satanic incantation against his presidency,” declared the host preacher, Hank Kunneman, at the annual Opening the Heavens conference, held in mid-September at the Mid-America Center arena in Council Bluffs

In EU regions call on commission to review 2025 climate targets as they are ‘impossible to achieve’
Members of the European Committee of the Regions (ECR) have called on the European Commission to review its 2025 climate targets, warning that these goals are currently “impossible to achieve”
Adopted on 8 October, the document ‘A just transition for all EU regions’ led by European Conservatives and Reformist group head in the committee, Marco Marsilio, urged the commission to reconsider the 2025 climate neutrality goals, particularly for the EU’s struggling automotive sector
ECR won the support of EPP and Renew for the amendment proposed by the conservatives. “Even the socialists didn’t oppose it, it’s an absolute achievement,” a source within the party told Brussels Signal
This amendment notes that “a number of production and market challenges could make it difficult for European car manufacturers to meet the stricter CO2 emission targets for their fleets that will come into force in 2025”

Pennsylvania looks like it will really be a major battleground for Donald Trump and Kamala Harris on Nov. 5
Trump is strong in rural parts of the state plus he has a loyal base that will once again vote for him
Harris, on the other hand, needs to score points in urban and suburban areas to offset the advantage her opponent has
The fact of the matter is that a candidate needs a minimum of 270 electoral votes to win
If Harris loses in Pennsylvania, which has 19 electoral votes, she needs to win in either North Carolina or Georgia, which each have 16 electoral votes. However, judging by the polls, her victory in those two states is unlikely
Well, if Pennsylvania is going to be Trump's loss, he needs to win Michigan, Wisconsin, and also maintain all of his positions in Arizona, Georgia and North Carolina, where he's leading in the polls
But again, analysts consider it unlikely that Trump would win Michigan and Wisconsin if he loses Pennsylvania
So that leaves virtually the only thing left for the candidates to do is fight hard in Pennsylvania and thus take the White House

Elite colleges accused of price-fixing to make divorced parents pay more
Forty of the country’s top colleges were sued this week and accused of colluding in a price-fixing scheme that has increased the cost of college for students with divorced or separated parents
A Cornell University alum and Boston University student filed the federal lawsuit Monday that takes aim at the CSS Profile, a form some schools use to determine a student’s financial need
The complaint alleges that the nonprofit College Board, which administers the form, conspired with schools named in the complaint to develop a policy in 2006 to consider the assets of noncustodial parents in its calculation. The point was to deny students institutional scholarships, the lawsuit alleges
By requiring both parents to fill out the CSS Profile, colleges could provide an artificially high estimate of what the family could afford to pay, even if only one parent provides financial support for the student, according to the complaint. Attorneys say the College Board pushed schools to adopt the policy, arguing that institutions should have a consistent approach
The lawsuit, filed in a federal court in Illinois, estimates that nationwide at least 20,000 prospective class members have been harmed by the practice over the past 18 years. Attorneys are seeking class-action status

Harris is only running for president because it became impossible to hide Biden’s decline
Of course she wouldn’t have done anything different than President Biden. She’s the empty replacement figurehead
In her appearance on “The View” this week, Vice President Kamala Harris was asked if she would have done anything differently than President Joe Biden over the past four years. She answered, incredibly, “There is not a thing that comes to mind”
Commentators were quick to note how disastrous an answer it was given Harris’ previous efforts to distinguish herself from Biden, whose tenure in office is widely seen as a failure. The problem for Harris of course is that she’s the current vice president, which means she’s not the challenger but the de facto incumbent. Distinguishing herself from Biden was always going to be difficult
What’s more, the Biden White House has gone out of its way to emphasize how integral Harris has been to the administration. Biden himself said last week, she has been “a major player in everything we’ve done”

Europe unprepared for energy crisis if Israel attacks Iranian oil industry
Once again the world finds itself on the brink of a renewed energy crisis, and once again Europe appears ill-prepared. If Israel should decide to attack the Iranian oil industry, a spike in energy prices – especially crude oil – will be almost impossible to avoid
The fact is that the European Union consumes approximately 11% of the world’s oil and 8% of its natural gas while only producing 0.5% of the former and 0.9% of the latter. Any conflagration that drives up international prices for energy will hit the EU hard
European companies, particularly in the automotive sector, are finding themselves stifled by bureaucracy and soaring energy costs—costs so high that iconic manufacturers like Volkswagen are now considering shuttering their factories in Germany for the first time in their 87-year history
The shift towards electric vehicles initially heralded a wave of optimism. Incentives made EVs attractive, but as government support waned, so did consumer interest. The lesson here is straightforward: economic viability must accompany ambition. If the transition to renewable technologies does not consider market realities or consumer needs, it risks becoming an expensive failure
