President can deploy troops to enforce Immigration Law

President-elect Trump’s confirmation last month of his plan to deploy military assets for immigration enforcement sparked a constitutional debate. A careful examination of a pair of longstanding statutes reveals military support for immigration enforcement is permissible

The issue hinges on two 19th century laws: the Posse Comitatus Act of 1878 and the Insurrection Act of 1807. When properly understood, both allow the President to use active-duty military forces to support the deportation of illegal immigrants

The military currently provides support for immigration enforcement. Today, roughly 4,000 service members assist Customs and Border Protection along the southwest border. They operate surveillance aircraft, transport Border Patrol personnel, and maintain vehicles

The incoming administration has the potential to significantly expand this support role. Military aircraft could transport detainees, military installations could provide temporary housing facilities, and military personnel could assist with administrative and logistical tasks. None of these activities would violate Posse Comitatus because they do not involve direct law enforcement actions

Promises to cut $2 trillion clash with Trump's expensive plans

Ambitious budget cuts will meet political reality in Trump’s second administration

"At least $2 trillion" was Elon Musk's casual preelection response when asked how much a new Donald Trump administration could cut from the federal government. As a goal for the new administration, $2 trillion in cuts is both perfectly reasonable and politically impossible

The federal government, now burning $6.8 trillion annually, ran on $4.4 trillion just five years ago—hardly a time of fiscal restraint. But any ambition to curb government spending will have to contend with a political reality that isn't exactly primed for austerity—especially under a second Trump administration, where a potent combination of executive power, cronyism, and party infighting looks likely to dominate

EU birth rate falls to historic low

3.665 million babies will be born in the 27 EU member states in 2023, the lowest since record-keeping began in 1961. Compared with 2022, the drop in births was 5.5%. This is the biggest drop ever recorded,” states the British Financial Times

Since peaking at nearly 7 million births in the mid-1960s, birth rates in the countries that now make up the EU have plummeted and are at about the same level as in the US

A shortage of children in Europe will increase pressure on public finances as the working-age population shrinks and costs in areas such as health care and pensions rise

Silicon Valley investor Marc Andreessen describes how the government has de-banked dozens of startup and crypto figures

Marc Andreessen, who has started numerous successful high-tech firms and is an investor in the field, recently appeared on the Joe Rogan podcast and talked about how the U.S. government quietly works with large financial institutions to de-bank people they see as a threat, including people who are just trying to create startups or invest in crypto

Oddly, this never seems to happen to people on the political left

According to Andreessen, the government debanked over 30 tech startups including crypto founders over the past four years. He also claims that the exercise goes back 15 years during the Obama administration when several ‘unconventional startups’ including marijuana businesses were debanked

ICE says nearly 180,000 non-citizens deliberately not detained, roaming free in US cities

In the second and third quarters of fiscal 2024, U.S. Customs and Immigration Enforcement agents removed nearly 68,000 illegal border crossers, ICE says

ICE claims the number “reflects a 69% increase over removals during the third quarter in fiscal year 2023, and is more than 140% of ICE removals for all fiscal year 2023”

According to the latest data published by ICE, 179,937 illegal foreign nationals, who under current federal law are inadmissible and required to be removed, weren’t detained but were living freely in the U.S. through ICE’s “Alternatives to Detention” (ATD) program, as of June 2024

New “Thank You, Dr. Fauci” documentary exposes entire COVID charade

Award-winning documentarian Jenner Furst has released a new documentary film about Tony Fauci called "Thank You, Dr. Fauci" that dives deep into the Wuhan coronavirus (COVID-19) "pandemic" scam and associated coverup

Furst is a two-time Peabody Award-winning and four-time Emmy nominated director and self-described progressive who broke rank with the Democrat Party. His journey into the content for the film started in early 2020 when he was contacted to write a puff piece for Fauci, who used to head up the National Institute for Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), a division of the National Institutes of Health (NIH)

Furst never ended up writing the Fauci piece, but instead ended up down a rabbit hole through which he came out the other side with "Thank You, Dr. Fauci," a project that the mainstream press is ignoring. Even the popular Rotten Tomatoes critic website refuses to touch the film

Electric vehicle fires: How worried should we really be?

Electric vehicles bring not just environmental promise, but also raise critical safety questions – chief among them, the fire risks posed by their lithium-ion batteries. While indispensable for powering EVs, these batteries present unique challenges, especially in confined spaces like parking garages, where the potential for fires carries significant consequences

At the core of this risk lies the lithium-ion battery (LiB), a powerful energy storage device with considerable vulnerabilities. Thermal runaway is a self-accelerating reaction that leads to a rapid temperature increase. It is often caused by overcharging, overheating, damage, or defects, and once initiated, it can cause uncontrollable fires that are difficult to extinguish

The risk of thermal runaway is mitigated by built-in Battery Management Systems (BMS), which include real-time monitoring, automatic deactivation features, and compartmentalised modules to isolate fires. However, as the range and performance of EVs improves, their batteries are getting bigger, making fire safety a serious challenge, especially in indoor environments

So is it safe to own an EV?

The answer is yes, but only if certain safety measures are followed. Individual EV owners play a vital role in minimising risks. Owning an EV with a home-charging setup offers great convenience, but it’s essential to address potential hazards

DOJ arrests Chinese national over shipping weapons, ammo from California to North Korea

Shenghua Wen, 41, who had been illegally residing in the United States, was charged with conspiracy to violate the International Emergency Economic Powers Act, according to a press release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Central District of California. The press release described Wen as being a Chinese nation who had overstayed his student visa in the U.S. and who was “therefore prohibited from possessing any firearms or ammunition”

Violating the International Emergency Economic Powers Act is described as a “felony that carries a statutory maximum sentence of 20 years in federal prison,” according to the press release

Wen reportedly “exported to North Korea shipments of firearms, ammunition and other military items” that had been “concealed inside shipping containers” from Long Beach. The containers were then shipped from Long Beach to Hong Kong and from Hong Kong to North Korea

No good prospects for EU economy

According to European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde, Eurozone economic growth could be weaker in the months ahead and the medium-term outlook is uncertain with downside risks dominating

The eurozone economy has been virtually stagnant for the past 18 months, and a long-predicted recovery has not materialised

Weak growth has helped tame runaway inflation, but some policymakers are concerned growth is so weak that inflation could fall below the ECB’s 2% target, much like in the pre-pandemic years

“Survey-based data suggest that growth will be weaker in the short term, on the back of slowing growth in the services sector and a continued contraction in manufacturing,” Lagarde told the European Parliament’s Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs in Brussels

“The medium-term economic outlook is uncertain, however, and dominated by downside risks,” Lagarde added. “Geopolitical risks are elevated, with growing threats to international trade”

Given the open nature of the bloc, trade barriers pose a threat to manufacturing and investment, Lagarde added

There are many texts on the causes of the recession in Germany. But since the downward trend started long before 2022, Russian gas is clearly not the only reason

If we highlight the most important one, it is, of course, some incredible unwillingness to spend, both at the federal budget level and at the consumer level. And it's expressed in a tremendous dislike of debt

So when you are told that living in debt is immoral because you are ensuring your quality of life at the expense of future generations, remember this graph: Living within your means can hurt future generations just as much

The FBI is asking Americans to urgently switch to encrypted messages, blaming the “worst hack of U.S. communications in history” on Chinese Salt Typhoon hackers (the introduction of viruses became known on November 22, and no one knows how long they worked in the system undetected)

The humor of the situation is that the hackers “were able to listen to phone calls and read text messages” using a system that the U.S. authorities themselves (the same FBI) implemented to wiretap U.S. citizens as part of criminal investigations. Now the same U.S. authorities are advising their suspected citizens to “encrypt their correspondence,” expecting that the messenger companies will provide the keys only to their government agencies

The “verdict” to the regime of Bashar al-Assad was issued de facto on November 29th in Moscow following his after his unsuccessful visit to the Kremlin

Upon his return on November 30th in Damascus, Assad faced with widespread betrayal by his security forces, who saw
the lack of support from Moscow as a compromise already decided for the Kremlin
as part of some kind of arrangement behind Damascus' back

A significant mistake of Bashar al-Assad himself was the decision to visit Moscow, where he arrived on November 27, together with all members of his family. The news of the Assad family's presence in Moscow at the time of the outbreak of hostilities in the north of the country was in fact proof of the regime's fragility, which played a significant role in the militants' moral and psychological superiority over the Assad government forces

Assad was flown to Moscow by a Russian airplane. It flew out of Latakia, then turned off its transponder and headed toward Russia. The board could have taken off from the Russian military base Hmeimim or from Latakia airport. The data was provided by Flightradar, a website that monitors aircraft movements. The plane's transponder was briefly turned on near Moscow and turned off again before landing, the BBC writes.

‘Keep nine litres of water in storage’: how Baltic and Nordic countries are preparing for a crisis or war

With war raging in Ukraine, the sabotage of undersea infrastructure in the Baltic Sea, and increasingly aggressive nuclear rhetoric from Russia, many countries in the region are giving their citizens advice on how to prepare for a crisis, emergency or war

The Baltic states – Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, which share borders with Russia, – have regularly updated public information over the past decade. This partly stems from historical experiences of Soviet occupation, and fears of something similar happening again

On the other side of the Baltic Sea, emergency preparedness advice has also been updated this year in Denmark and Norway

The Danish information is not directly linked to war, but mentions other possible crises such as extreme weather and cyber attacks. The advice focuses on how citizens could be prepared to cope for three days, without power, including having your own water supply of nine litres in storage and having a stock of canned food. The Norwegian information also talks about how to survive for one week without power. It suggests having food, matches, candles and iodine tables in case of nuclear attack

How Jaguar became a vehicle for LGBT idiocy

The unveiling of Jaguar’s new electric concept car this week was predictably overshadowed by that advert it released earlier this month

The Jaguar ad was widely mocked, and deservedly so. Its miserabilist cast looked like they had discharged themselves from an institution for the radically neurodivergent, before raiding some bins for random things to wear. ‘Copy nothing’, read the slogan

The campaign was so bonkers it was tempting to assume it was a joke or an accident. Some of the company’s fans tried to insist the ad was merely a clever way of generating coverage. If only that were true. It actually represented the culmination of a decade-long campaign to groom a classic British brand by the increasingly demented LGBT lobby

One hint of this could be spotted in a wildly favourable review of the ad in LGBT magazine Attitude. The same article also revealed that the magazine’s publisher, Darren Styles, had been among a select group of journalists given a sneak preview of the car ahead of its official launch

It is not surprising that a tiny LGBT magazine was invited to a major car brand’s top-secret marketing event. For almost a decade, Attitude has been guiding Jaguar in a high-risk pivot away from its traditional customers and towards the LGBT community

'Times have changed': Debate over fluoridated water resurfaces across U.S.

Studies about the potential link between high levels of fluoride and lower IQ in children, plus comments from President-elect Donald Trump’s nominee for health and human services secretary, are fueling the debate to the chagrin of dental experts who say fluoridated water is irreplaceable

Abilene, Texas, stopped adding fluoride to city water in September after a federal judge in California ordered the Environmental Protection Agency to draft regulations in response to plaintiffs’ concerns that levels of the mineral might pose a risk to pregnant women or the IQ levels of their children

The judge did not conclude that fluoride is “injurious to public health” but ruled that an “unreasonable risk of injury” requires a response

Robert F. Kennedy Jr., whom Mr. Trump nominated for health secretary, called for the end to fluoridation after the Jan. 20 inauguration. He said fluoride is an “industrial waste” capable of causing bodily defects such as bone cancer and thyroid issues

Mexico makes record fentanyl bust days after Trump tariff threat

Mexican authorities have announced what they say is the largest fentanyl bust in the country’s history, with over a ton of the synthetic opioid seized in two raids in the cartel-ridden northern state of Sinaloa

“It is the largest seizure of fentanyl pills that has ever been made,” Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said Thursday morning during her daily press conference, adding that the amount seized surpasses 20 million doses

“Think (about it), the consumption of a person addicted to fentanyl over the course of a year is like a packet of sugar. Then think about a ton of fentanyl, we are talking about more than 20 million doses, and close to eight billion Mexican pesos ($394 million),” the president said

The raids come days after US President-elect Donald Trump promised massive hikes in tariffs on goods from Mexico on the first day of his administration – a move he claims to be in retaliation for illegal immigration and “crime and drugs” coming across the border

“This tariff will remain in effect until such time as drugs, in particular fentanyl, and all illegal aliens stop this invasion of our country!” Trump posted on his Truth Social platform on November 25

France's political crisis and Macron's big problems

The French president joined the company of Ukraine's Zelensky, Georgia's Salome Zurabishvili and South Korea's Yun Seok-yeol in saying he would not resign after a vote of no confidence in Michel Barnier's government on the evening of Dec. 4

The situation in France is a rare one, with virtually no chance for Macron's political career. 331 of 577 French lawmakers voted to dismiss Prime Minister Michel Barnier in a vote of no confidence after he tried to pass a tough budget to reduce the country's huge deficit

Barnier will become the shortest-serving prime minister and the first prime minister to be sent out of office by parliament since 1962. At the same time, lawmakers have also started demanding Macron's resignation - he has already refused

The desire to send Macron to resign has become a unique example of unity between the left and the right, and it may turn out that the latter will still have to comply. It will be no easier to form a new government than it was three months ago, when it succeeded with great difficulty. Macron, on whose initiative early parliamentary elections were held, has created a problem for himself - it is impossible to dissolve parliament and appoint new elections now according to the procedure until the summer of 2025. How France will be without a government is still unknown, but the country will definitely meet the New Year without a budget

There is an option - the departed Barnier can be left as an acting minister by Macron's efforts, but the budget requires higher powers. This means that the problem goes beyond France and becomes a European one: if the second eurozone economy does not know when it will adopt a budget, and it is not clear what it will be, it is not good for the euro. Investors are already quoting France at the same level of investment risk as Greece

The current arrangement puts Marine Le Pen, if not at the top of the real power ranking, then at the top of it. Because Barnier was appointed only thanks to the votes of Marine Le Pen, and now she has a chance to get Macron's resignation due to her influence in the parliament and “golden share” in the voting. After that, the road to the post of president in the elections of 2027 is actually open for Le Pen herself

Global freezing: Surface temperatures in frigid Greenland have been dropping for 20 years

A team of Thai scientists and mathematicians has determined that surface temperatures throughout Greenland have actually been dropping over the past several decades as opposed to increasing

In other words, surface temperatures in Greenland, one of the coldest regions in the world, have been slightly decreasing year after year, according to the new research

Casting serious doubt on the "net zero" theory of a coming climate collapse, the new research debunks the claims that ocean waters are "boiling" and that the Greenland ice sheet is in danger of catastrophic melting. If anything, Greenland is gradually entering an even deeper freeze the longer time passes

Antarctica has likewise not been warming as is widely claimed. For the past 20 years, Antarctica's temperatures have remained largely the same

California bill would allow public university admission priority for slaves’ descendants

A California lawmaker introduced a bill Monday to allow admission priority to the descendants of slaves at the University of California and California State University, two of the largest public university systems in the nation

Assemblymember Isaac Bryan, a Democrat who represents parts of Los Angeles and authored the legislation, said it would help rectify past and current discrimination at universities

An earlier analysis of ancestry-based reparations shared by the National African-American Reparations Commission suggested there are more white than Black descendants of slaves in California, putting the bill at odds with its stated goal

According to the Census Bureau, 4.4% of children in California are Black, compared to 4% of Cal State students and 4.7% of UC students

Earlier this year, the California Senate passed a bill that would have created the California American Freedman Affairs Agency, which would have established a “Genealogy Office” charged with developing a process for determining and assisting with determining individuals’ eligibility for “descendant” status. The bill passed the Senate but failed in the Assembly

Worse than 2008 Great Financial Crisis

By Milan Adams

What’s worse than an all-out financial collapse? There is something worse than an all-out collapse hitting America and the world, and it is worsening by the day

It’s inflation. Typically, inflation is contained in one country or a group of closely intertwined nations. Normally, we don’t see inflation coupled with so many external forces coming together in a perfect storm- pandemics, lockdowns, an energy crisis, supply chain disruptions, and so forth. This isn’t the first global inflationary crisis, but it is the first with these modern fiscal controls, exchanges, and an intricately woven global supply chain. The inflation we are about to see worldwide is unique, and even expert economists readily confess they have seen nothing like it and cannot accurately say where or how it will end

You have to realize that global inflation will mean more than just paying a dollar ten for the same goods that you paid a dollar for just a few months before. An inflation threat at this level has the potential to alter the economies of nations fundamentally. It threatens every aspect of our world from food, to land ownership, to government stability, to retirement plans, to simply surviving. Here we will explore how this inflation isn’t local to your country but a global problem right now, how we don’t have the tools to avert it, what is going to happen, and what you still have a little time to do to encourage your survival through it. Let’s explore what’s going on…

How corporations rob Americans of the joys of fixing their own property

By David Dunmoyer

I recently built a coffee table. This was my first foray into woodworking, so the table is far from perfect — with slight asymmetries and an uneven finish. A level would tell me it misses the mark of an IKEA table’s engineered flatness. But if you’ve ever built something with your hands as a hobbyist, you would know my reaction looking at this table in satisfactory triumph — “Who cares?”

Unfortunately, when it comes to trying your hand at repairing your personal property, certain manufacturers do care, and they’re getting in the way of consumers and hobbyists who just want to get their own electronics, appliances, and vehicles up and running again. This assault on our property rights and agency is at the core of the national push for legislation that secures the “Right to Repair” our personal property and explains why a half dozen states have already codified such a law

There are innumerable legal and philosophical arguments that support the right to repair, which the Texas Public Policy Foundation addresses in a recent research paper. But I want to return to the coffee table illustration for a moment and pull on the thread of tinkering
