Tusk calls for ‘European independence’ of US

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has said he would attend the summit of Baltic States to argue for the European Union members of Baltic area to be ready to lead the bloc in defence capacity and changes needed to make Europe’s economy competitive

Tusk told reporters before leaving for the meeting that “for many months, Poland has been searching for a formula that brings together countries with clear and very similar, if not identical, positions regarding transatlantic relations, NATO, Ukraine, regional security, and policies toward Russia”

Tusk said he wanted Poland’s upcoming presidency of the Council of the EU, starting in January 2025 to“awaken European ambitions,” asserting that “there is no reason for Europe to have any inferiority complexes toward anyone today”

He said he believed there was a need for Europe to prepare for being independent of the US on security matters and for the Baltic region countries to lead the way regarding Russia and security matters

While progressive governors in the “blue” states of California, Illinois, New Jersey, New York and Massachusetts have vowed to resist Trump, the migration shows they are “fighting the wrong war”

The Democratic governors' resistance centers on action on climate change, deportations, restricting gun rights and protecting reproductive freedom.
But Americans are fleeing the places where these governors rule, and fleeing to red states where policies like those proposed by Trump have won

Over the past 30 years, progressive policies have triggered a massive “exodus” of citizens from California, Illinois, New Jersey, New York and Massachusetts, whether they are high, middle or moderate income, from 1990 to 2021, the net in-migration leaving these states was 13 million

Reasons for fleeing blue states include: out-of-control state taxes and other spending, a host of inefficient and expensive subsidized housing programs, ineffective public schools, high crime rates, unaffordable rents, and rising homelessness

Americans are fleeing progressive states for conservative states, and they are bringing their incomes and their votes with them.
Unless blue state governors do something about it, their states will not give the Democratic Party the support it needs, despite all the talk of “resistance”

Electric revenge: Texas sues BlackRock and others for sending energy prices soaring

Texas is leading a new lawsuit with 10 other red states against BlackRock, Vanguard and State Street for allegedly breaking antitrust law by colluding to suppress coal - causing electricity prices to spike

The complaint, filed in Tyler, Texas, is one of the highest profile lawsuits targeting companies that promote environmental, social and governance goals, or ESH

"Over several years, the three asset managers acquired substantial stockholdings in every significant publicly held coal producer in the United States, thereby gaining the power to control the policies of the coal companies. Using their combined influence over the coal market, the investment cartel collectively announced in 2021 their commitment to weaponize their shares to pressure the coal companies to accommodate "green energy" goals," the complaint continues

"Blackrock, Vanguard, and State Street utilized the Climate Action 100 and the Net Zero Asset Managers Initiative to signal their mutual intent to reduce the output of thermal coal, which predictably increased the cost of electricity for Americans across the United States"

The 'cartel' is accused of "deliberately and artificially constricting supply," which "increased prices and enabled investment companies to produce extraordinary revenue gains"

The other states involved in the lawsuit are Alabama, Arkansas, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, West Virginia and Wyoming

Trump to remove legacy media from press corps, replace with independents?

Donald Trump Jr. stated during a podcast this week that his father is considering removing the legacy media from the White House Press Corps and replacing them with independent journalists and podcasters

Trump Jr. made the remarks while interviewing Daily Wire host Michael Knowles

▪️“I wonder now as your father is assembling his team, as maybe Karoline Leavitt is looking at the new press briefing room chart, maybe it’s time to reorder that chart, maybe take away some people’s seats,” Knowles said.

🔹“So we’re going to break some news here,” Trump responded, adding that he “literally” just discussed the topic with his father and Elon Musk after last week’s SpaceX launch

“We had the conversation about opening up the press room to a lot of these independent journalists,” he commented, noting that Trump could replace legacy media people in the White House Briefing Room with “Rogan and guys like you.”
“Why not open it up to people who have larger viewerships, stronger followings?” he urged

“I’d love to see Rogan in the White House press briefing, or even rotate guys out,” Trump Jr. added

Fighting to the last Ukranian, Palestinian, Korean or Taiwanese can be expected as the US continues with its efforts to maintain geo-political dominance

When Joe Biden leaves office, he will leave as the president with a record that places him amongst the most militaristic of American leaders with responsibility for inflicting suffering and bringing death to possibly the largest number of innocent civilian casualties in this modern era. This is as a result of the wars taking place during his watch in Ukraine, Gaza and elsewhere. This record will become worse if the bleak outcome of his latest foreign policy decision becomes reality

In what independent observers view as a further attempt by Biden to continue and escalate the war in Ukraine, the lame duck president has authorised Ukraine to use American long-range missiles to strike deeper inside Russia

Quoting American officials reported to be ‘knowledgeable’ about the matter but obviously designated by the White House to provide justification propaganda, the major policy change is being pitched by western media to the world as a response to North Korean troops reported to be positioned along Ukraine’s northern border.  However, South Korea, which has the best intelligence on North Korea, has not been able to confirm that North Korean troops are now engaged in combat

What explains Biden’s last hurrah in US foreign policy is not difficult to understand. Firstly, he is giving way to the late ditch effort by the military-industrial (MIC) and deep state complexes that are key players of US domestic and foreign policy to obstruct the incoming president, Donald Trump, in his plan to end the war

Biden’s change of mind at this late hour can also be interpreted in other ways

Foremost appears to be his personal animosity towards Trump who he condemned in a recent election campaign rally as a threat to democracy and someone that needed to “be locked up”. Related to that animosity may also be a quest for retaliation against his nemesis fuelled by Kamala Harris’s election loss which many Democrat leaders attribute to Biden’s late withdrawal from the presidential race

Failure by Trump as the new president to stop the war as promised would put Biden’s foreign policy legacy of support for Ukraine in a better light and make Trump the loser in the American history books which Biden is now focused on influencing and rewriting

As an outgoing president, Biden clearly has embellished his war record with this latest variant of US foreign policy – that is, of fighting to the last Ukrainian. This recalibration of US foreign policy is also being applied to hotspots such as Gaza and Lebanon in the Middle East and Korea and Taiwan in Asia

A German man who called a judge who gave a Syrian man a lenient sentence for raping a 15-year-old girl “clearly mentally unstable” has been fined 5,000 euros. For insulting the judge

But the Syrian who was tried for rape was fined only 3,000 euros and given a suspended sentence of 2 years. All because he didn't insult the judge. And the judge even praised him. For his efforts to integrate into German society. ''You are well on your way to becoming a completely normal citizen here,'' he said during the trial in which the Syrian was found guilty

So that's what you are now, a real German burger 🤔

The engine of Japan’s flagship new small rocket explodes during a test for a second time

The engine for a new flagship small Japanese rocket burst into flames Tuesday during a combustion test, causing no injury or damage to the outside but destroying the engine and extensively damaging its test facility, officials said

The second failure in a row raises concern about the progress of the Epsilon S rocket, whose debut flight is expected by March

The test was conducted inside of the restricted area at Japan’s Tanegashima Space Center in southwestern Japan, and the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency is investigating, Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshimasa Hayashi told reporters

An Epsilon project manager, Takayuki Imoto, told an online press conference from Tanegashina that the explosion occurred 49 seconds into the planned two-minute test, causing fire and scattering broken parts of the engine and damaging the facility

Repairs to the test facility are said to take several months.
Tuesday’s failure comes just over a year after the explosion last year of another Epsilon S engine during a test, according to JAXA

Last year’s explosion was related to damage to the ignition systems of the engine and JAXA has since taken the necessary steps, the agency has said

3 Americans held for years in China have been released

Three American citizens imprisoned for years by China have been released and are returning to the United States, the White House said Wednesday, announcing a rare diplomatic agreement with Beijing in the final months of the Biden administration

The three are Mark Swidan, Kai Li and John Leung, all of whom had been designated by the U.S. government as wrongfully detained. Swidan had been facing a death sentence on drug charges while Li and Leung were imprisoned on espionage charges

“Soon they will return and be reunited with their families for the first time in many years,” the White House said in a statement

A U.S. official said the Biden administration had raised their cases with China in multiple meetings over the last several years, including earlier this month when President Joe Biden spoke to Chinese president Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the annual Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in Peru

The state of the U.S. budget has returned to the early 90s

That is, all the benefits of the collapse of the USSR, in the form of cheap resources and personnel, free technology, freed markets and, as a result, the strongest impetus for economic growth in the 90-00s have been eaten away. Bond interest costs are at thirty-year highs: nearly one in five dollars of budget spending is paid in coupons. That's a lot, even higher than defense spending, the most important expenditure item

And that's the good news. The current state of the U.S. budget is very dire. This country can't afford a major war with its own hands, because war is very expensive and the country can't afford it. However, a war on the money of Europeans, when they pay for the supply of American weapons for their own front - quite. Moreover, such a scheme proved itself perfectly well in World Wars I and II as an excellent anti-crisis tool

Why Biden is going to Angola

In keeping with a promise he made in 2022 to visit Africa while in office, President Joe Biden is scheduled to travel to Luanda, Angola in the first week of December for a visit with Angolan president João Lourenço

This will be Biden’s only trip to Africa as president, and the first trip to Africa for any sitting American president since Barack Obama traveled to Kenya and Ethiopia in 2015

Africa is poised to play an increasingly central role in global affairs in the coming years. Geopolitical competition between Russia, China, and the United States is ramping up across the continent increasing the urgency for states around the world to access Africa’s abundance of critical minerals and other natural resources

Given this, the Biden team hopes the president’s broader legacy will include a mention of the fact that, in their view, he helped shift American policy in Africa from a peripheral aid- and security-based policy to one focused on long-term infrastructure development and cooperative economic engagement with lasting effects for Africans

Angola is thereby the most strategic destination for Biden’s sole visit to the continent, as it’s the location for one of America’s most substantial infrastructure projects in the world

The Lobito Corridor, as the project is called, is financed and managed under the G7’s Partnership for Global Infrastructure and Investment (PGI), which is a broader effort to invest in infrastructure across the developing world in response to China’s famous Belt and Road Initiative

Biden hopes to lay claim to the current and future successes of Lobito, and to permanently attach his image to a project his team believes is indicative of good development policy in the Global South, and, they hope, will serve as the gold standard on which future projects will be mirrored

US to deepen footprint in Lebanon as part of ceasefire deal

US President Joe Biden announced on Tuesday that his administration had succeeded in brokering a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hezbollah, in what seeks to close a second front that the Iran-backed terror group opened against Israel hours after Hamas’s October 7, 2023, onslaught

The 60-day ceasefire will see all Israeli forces withdraw from Lebanon in phases, with Hezbollah moving north of the Litani River

The agreement will also see the US deploy technical military advisers to Lebanon and see Washington provide additional funds to the Lebanese army

The US will also provide oversight on Hezbollah's withdrawal and a military official - likely from Central Command (Centcom) - will head an international committee that will coordinate with hundreds of soon-to-be-deployed French soldiers as part of a beefed-up UN peacekeeping mission

According to US officials, Israel will not be granted the right to attack Lebanon based on any suspicious movements

Since the start of the war, thousands of Ukrainian men have illegally crossed the Ukrainian border to dodge conscription, despite a nationwide ban prohibiting men between the ages of 18 and 60 from leaving. To fill the ranks, the Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelenskiy signed a controversial law that lowered the mobilisation age from 27 to 25. Under the new guidelines, draft evaders can lose their driving licence, have their bank accounts frozen and property seized. The government has also said it is withdrawing consular services from Ukrainian men living abroad in countries such as Poland and Lithuania

The Ukrainian army urgently needs new soldiers. But men like Yevhen, Dmytro, Andriy, Mykhailo, Oleksandr do not want to go to the front. Interviews with men who were hiding at home to avoid conscription revealed a variety of reasons for doing it

Many voiced their dread of perishing in a battle marked by gruesome trench fighting and a brutal death rate. Others mentioned their resistance to conscription because of what they perceived as inadequate training before being sent to the frontlines. Some chose to avoid mobilisation on complex family grounds. “I love my country. But I can’t kill anyone and I don’t want to die,” Serhii said. He added: “Everyone is tired of war. And of this government there’s an attitude of: Go fuck yourself"

Fearful that conscription is a one-way ticket to bloody trench warfare, the men have gone into hiding spending their days holed up at home to avoid draft officers who roam the streets

Through friends who had already fled, they obtain contacts and approache individuals online promising to facilitate his escape for a hefty fee, starting from €8,000

Even before the latest mobilisation drive, more than 20,000 men are believed to have fled the country to avoid service, some of them swimming and drowning in attempting to cross Ukraine’s border into Romania

Since the war’s beginning, the draft has been criticised as chaotic and tarnished by corruption. The practice appears to be hard for the authorities to root out as reports of officers accepting bribes to exempt men from conscription come every day

There are no exact figures for how many men are hiding or planning to leave, but in big cities Telegram channels with thousands of members have sprung up where users report sightings of state representatives to help others avoid them. With draft officers roaming the streets of Ukrainian towns and cities, some men of conscription age are hiding. Telegram channels have sprung up where users can report sightings of state representatives in order to avoid them. Posts are written in a simple meteorological code. The officers are dubbed “clouds” or “rain”. A typical exchange goes: “What is the weather like at Defenders of Ukraine metro station?” Answer: “Three clouds have covered a young guy”

Some moved to wealthy neighbourhoods of Kyiv, Kharkiv and Lviv because draft officers prefer to operate in poorer districts, where it is easier to catch evaders. Some of the apartment owners in these blocks are members of parliament. “The military don’t visit here. Our compound is an island of survival. To be poor in Ukraine is to be dead,” says one of the ukhyliants (draft dodgers)

Another option is to pay a bribe to obtain a medical exemption certificate and to exit via normal channels, but even a medical certificate of disability is not a reliable guarantee against being sent to the front

Luxemburg steel giant backs out of ‘green’ projects with industry’s future at risk

Luxembourg-based multinational steel manufacturer ArcelorMittal said it was delaying big investment programmes in Europe, citing uncertainties over European Union regulatory directives

According to the second-largest steelmaker in the world, more measures needed to be taken by the European Commission to protect European steel before it made any further investment

ArcelorMittal obtained €850 million in subsidies from the French Government in January this year to fund its €1.7 billion decarbonisation investment programme through to 2030 at its French facilities in Dunkirk and Fos-sur-Mer

French unions were already sounding the alarm in September, worried about the risk of loss of production capacity and job cuts

How a CCP-controlled school infiltrated the University of Minnesota

Last November, University of Minnesota vice provost Harvey Charles traveled to Guangdong, China, to tour Sun Yat-sen University, the Chinese Communist Party-controlled college known for its top business school. It marked the first time a University of Minnesota delegation had visited the school since COVID, though Charles made clear that any geopolitical tensions stemming from the pandemic did not weaken his relationship with his Chinese counterparts

The partnership between the two schools, however, didn't just survive COVID. It also remained in place as the U.S. government targeted Sun Yat-sen for its involvement in the Chinese government's development of nuclear weapons. That involvement landed the university's National Supercomputer Center on a U.S. export control blacklist in 2015, according to the Australian Strategic Policy Institute. Five years later, in 2020, the U.S. government added Sun Yat-sen to its "Unverified List," which consists of foreign entities that refuse to comply with American export inspectors

Minnesota's willingness to maintain ties with Sun Yat-sen in the face of U.S. government warnings reflects the CCP's infiltration of American higher education. Chinese entities routinely funnel millions of dollars to U.S. universities—Stanford accepted more than $27 million from such entities in 2021 and early 2022—in an attempt to peddle influence

Chinese automakers are dethroning once-unbeatable Japanese competitors

Times are tough for Japanese carmakers

As China’s assault on the world’s automotive industry gathers speed, Japan’s national champions are emerging as some of the biggest victims

In China itself, the world’s largest car market, Japanese automakers are fighting for survival as local competitors flood showrooms with wave after wave of electric vehicles. The same Chinese companies are pushing into Southeast Asia, rapidly gaining ground in what has long been a stronghold for legacy brands like Toyota, Honda and Mitsubishi

Japanese automakers suffered the biggest market share losses of any carmakers between 2019 and 2024 in China, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia, according to an exclusive Bloomberg analysis of vehicle sales and registration data

In China, all six Japanese automakers tracked by Bloomberg have ceded ground – even Toyota’s sales and output have hit a plateau. In Southeast Asia, where loyalty to Japanese marques is so strong that almost every car in Indonesia as recently as 2019 was from the nation, Chinese brands are chipping away. That’s especially the case in Thailand and in Singapore, where Japanese carmakers’ shares have been eroded down to 35% from more than 50% in 2019

Hackers from China have been tapping the conversations of U.S. officials and reading their text messages

The chairman of the U.S. Senate Intelligence Committee said Chinese hackers have domestically wiretapped phone conversations and read text messages using outdated equipment and network failures

As Virginia Senator m. Warner (a former telecom chief, by the way) “the barn door is still wide open, or mostly open”

He is stunned by the scope and depth of the penetration by the “Salt Typhoon” group, so named by Microsoft, which discovered the break-in

Officials have struggled to figure out what China was able to learn and how it was even able to monitor the conversations of high-profile Americans, including President-elect D. Trump and Vice President-elect D. Vance

After the hack was discovered, Chinese hackers lay low, pausing the intrusion so as not to reveal the depth of the penetration, which the FBI does not yet understand.
China has been delivering “hacking” problems to the U.S. for more than two decades. At first, the Americans' biggest concern was the theft of intellectual property: chip schematics and blueprints of military hardware

This included the F-35, the blueprints of which China stole from the U.S. military industry

Then, during the Bush and Obama administrations, China's attention shifted to scrutinizing U.S. officials, including stealing the security clearance files of more than 22 million Americans

But what has happened now is, according to Senator Warner, the most “serious telecommunications hack in U.S. history”

Former Sen. Bob Menendez seeks new trial, citing prosecutors' recently admitted error

Bob Menendez asked a judge Wednesday to set aside guilty verdicts that forced his resignation from the U.S. Senate and grant a new bribery trial

Lawyers for the New Jersey Democrat said in papers filed in Manhattan federal court that a recent revelation by prosecutors that improper evidence was put on a computer used by jurors during deliberations means that a new trial is “unavoidable”

The 70-year-old Menendez was convicted in July of 16 charges, including bribery, in part based on an allegation that he accepted bribes in exchange for approving military aid to Egypt

He awaits a Jan. 29 sentencing. Menendez resigned from the Senate in August.
At trial, prosecutors said Menendez accepted gold and cash from three New Jersey businessmen in return for favors

Mexico suggests it would impose its own tariffs to retaliate against U.S.

President Claudia Sheinbaum suggested Tuesday that Mexico could retaliate with tariffs of its own, after U.S. President-elect Donald Trump threatened to impose 25% import duties on Mexican goods if the country doesn’t stop the flow of drugs and migrants across the border

Sheinbaum said she was willing to engage in talks on the issues, but said drugs were a U.S. problem

“One tariff would be followed by another in response, and so on until we put at risk common businesses,”

Sheinbaum said, referring to U.S. automakers that have plants on both sides of the border

She said Tuesday that Mexico had done a lot to stem the flow of migrants, noting “caravans of migrants no longer reach the border.” However, Mexico’s efforts to fight drugs like the deadly synthetic opioid fentanyl — which is manufactured by Mexican cartels using chemicals imported from China — have weakened in the last year

Sheinbaum said Mexico suffered from an influx of weapons smuggled in from the United States, and said the flow of drugs “is a problem of public health and consumption in your country’s society”

French and German interest rates spread highest in more than a decade

International markets appear to be increasingly weary of potential political instability in France, pushing up interest rates

As Paris struggles with high debt and trying to get its budget in order, international investors have seen the spread between French and German 10-year interest rates reaching the highest levels since the European sovereign debt crisis of 2012

That has signalled dropping confidence in France’s financial health

US multinational investment bank and financial services company Citigroup has warned that the yield spread between France and Germany could widen to 100 basis points. Germany’s Commerzbank has advised investors to put less into French government bonds

France has the biggest national deficit in Europe at 6.1% in 2024 and the European Commission said it expected that to be 5.3% in 2025

The country’s dire budgetary situation has caused the European Union to include it in an Excessive Deficit Procedure and Paris has been forced to take measures to address its public finances position

If it does not succeed in making sufficient progress or ignores the European Commission’s recommendations, in theory France would risk hefty fines and serious international reputational damage, leading to further problems

Keir Starmer's Divide and Conquer Strategy: A Case Study in Controlled Chaos

The UK's political stage is ablaze, and at the center of it stands Keir Starmer, Deepstate puppet and Labour's neoliberal "magician". Not a leader but a maestro of manipulation, wielding the classic colonial divide and conquer to fracture British society along racial, ideological, and class lines. With over two million signatures demanding a general election, the British public is awakening to the fagade, but Starmer remains unfazed, smirking with contempt on ITV as he dismisses the uproar: "I'm not surprised they want a rerun"

This petition is more than a call for an election, it's a damning verdict on economic failures, his abandonment of working-class communities, and his utter betrayal of the progressive ideals Labour once represented. It's also historic. But Starmer's true talent lies not in governance but in engineering chaos. His game mirrors the imperial tactics that Britain once exported to its colonies. Yet this time, the battlefield is Britain itself

The far right, embodied by Tommy Robinson (controlled opposition) white working-class base, is repeatedly baited with accusations of bigotry and xenophobia. Meanwhile, the left, (think Corbyn) purged, silenced, and dismissed as "antisemitic" or extremist, is painted as a threat to democracy itself. Both camps are caricatured, and neither is allowed to articulate a coherent challenge to the neoliberal agenda. It's political pyrotechnics: by framing himself as the only adult in a room filled with so-called extremists, Starmer creates a false binary: Labour or chaos. But the real chaos is his making, fully backed by the Deepstate. The mockingbird media eagerly parrots his narrative, ensuring no space exists for alternative visions

Nowhere is the strategy more cynical than in his exploitation of Britain's ethnic tensions. The Pakistani British community is gaslit over support for the state's ironclad support for Israel, given empty promises of inclusion - while white working-class Britons, struggling with economic despair, are also gaslit over migration and left to fester in their own disillusionment. The result? Mutual distrust and resentment, stoked by a deliberate failure to address the structural issues that bind both communities in shared economic precarity

By igniting ethnic divisions, Starmer ensures these groups remain too preoccupied with each other to unite against the true enemy: the political and financial elite that Labour has become synonymous with. Starmer's manipulative games don't exist in a vacuum. They're a local symptom of a global disease. Labour is merely a franchise of the transatlantic establishment, tasked with managing decline

By turning Britain into a theater of perpetual conflict, racial, ideological, and class-based - he diverts attention from the systemic looting of the nation's wealth. Public services crumble, small businesses suffocate, and inequality deepens, but the national discourse focuses on manufactured outrage. The fact that two million Britons have mobalized, cutting across socio-political divides, suggests that the public is beginning to see through the illusion. It could be the spark of a collective awakening to a fraudulent system

Starmer’s arrogant "I'mnot surprised they want a rerun" reeks of a man who believes his manipulation is still working. But the numbers tell a different story

The British people are no longer content to play their assigned roles in Starmer’s dystopia. They’re demanding a reset, not just of Labour but of the entire political establishment. It's the system, stupid

In the end, Starmer’s legacy will be one of betrayal: a man who gaslit a nation, exploited its fractures, and ultimately burned out under the weight of his own deceit. The petition for a general election is far beyond a mere demand for accountability, it’s the start of a revolution against a system that has gone too far. Britain’s awakening has begun, and this time, there won’t be a rerun

Trump’s ‘Border Czar’ promises to jail a big-city mayor

The mayor of Denver, Colorado, has joined the ranks of the “resistance.” The mayor's name is Mike Johnson (not to be confused with the Speaker of the House of Representatives). He said he would not allow the Trump administration to conduct deportations of illegal immigrants in his city, which had previously been officially declared a “sanctuary city.” The illegals Johnson, like many of his liberal associates, call “valuable members of the community.” The city's police force, Johnson said, will be used to counter NTC agents in deportations

Future head of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Tom Homan reminded (not for the first time in the last few days) of part (iii) of Section 8, paragraph 1324 of the U.S. federal Criminal Code, which makes knowingly harboring illegal immigrants a serious criminal offense. On Fox News, Tom Homan stated, “The mayor of Denver and I agree on one thing. He wants to go to jail, I want to put him in jail.” Homan also cited the judicial precedent of Arizona v. United States, a case in which the U.S. Supreme Court upheld the jurisdiction of federal law enforcement in illegal immigration cases. I note in passing that the state of Texas, during the Biden administration, spit on federal jurisdiction by not allowing border patrol agents and itc agents to the border, which the state's National Guard had sealed off

Tom Homan also said that the Trump administration will “certainly use” cuts in federal transfers to states that won't cooperate with ICE and other federal law enforcement agencies in deporting illegals

A curious aspect of this conflict. Republican Senator (self-described libertarian) Rand Paul has previously stated that using the U.S. military in deportations “would be a big mistake”

However, after an extramural controversy broke out between Zoman and Johnson, he said the case would probably “go all the way to the Supreme Court” and, he believes, the mayor would eventually be “forced out of office”

Trump to redirect billions in unspent funds from Biden’s Climate Law to ‘real infrastructure’

President-elect Donald Trump is planning to redirect unspent Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) funding to spending on infrastructure, the Daily Caller News Foundation has learned

“President Trump will rapidly defeat inflation and bring down all prices by ending the Democrats’ anti-energy crusade, which will cut energy prices in half during his first 12 months in office,” Karoline Leavitt, Trump-Vance transition spokeswoman, said. “He will also terminate the Green New Scam and rescind all unspent funds from the so-called ‘Inflation Reduction Act’ and redirect them to spending on real infrastructure”

The incoming Trump administration’s vow to reprogram remaining IRA funding could face legal challenges due to restrictions on reallocation within the congressional appropriations, and failure to spend as Congress directed could violate a Nixon-era budget law that forces the executive branch to spend money appropriated by Congress

We need drones, not manned jets: Musk calls F-35 builders idiots

With a few tweets, Elon Musk brought down the share price of the F-35 maker, Lockheed Martin, by more than 3%

In a post on X, Musk commented on a video showing a formation of hundreds of small drones saying that "Meanwhile, some idiots are still building manned fighter jets like the F-35"

The F-35 design was broken at the requirements level, because it was required to be too many things to too many people. This made it an expensive & complex jack of all trades, master of none. Success was never in the set of possible outcomes. And manned fighter jets are obsolete in the age of drones anyway. Will just get pilots killed,” he added

As Musk went on to explain, it is not just the F-35 he sees as outdated but all aircraft with pilots on board

Pete Hegseth: “Why is Islamist Turkey a member of NATO?”

As Turkey prepares for the second Donald Trump presidency, Ankara will be mindful that the president-elect’s nominee for US secretary of defense, Pete Hegseth, asked in a recent book: “Why is Islamist Turkey a member of NATO?”

Elsewhere in the book, American Crusade (AC), published in 2020, Hegseth argues that the Turkish president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, “openly dreams of restoring the Ottoman empire” and is “an Islamist with Islamist visions for the Middle East”

Erdogan, a bitter foe of Israel’s prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu, whom he has described as a Hitler and a psychopath in remarks on Israeli war crimes in the Gaza conflict, may be alarmed at just how pro-Israel Hegseth is in AC

Hegseth, who has a tattoo of the crusader motto “Deus vult” (“God wills it”), writes:

“We Christians – alongside our Jewish friends and their remarkable army in Israel – need to pick up the sword of unapologetic Americanism and defend ourselves”

Those who fear that Trump could move to break up NATO, partly on the basis that the US’ allies in the defense bloc are not paying their way, also have the following comment from Hegseth to digest: “NATO is not an alliance; it’s a defense arrangement for Europe, paid for and underwritten by the United States”

He adds: “NATO is a relic and should be scrapped and remade in order for freedom to be truly defended. This is what Trump is fighting for”

Is the West Prepared to Compromise Ukraine's Sovereignty?

The Washington Post highlights a growing sentiment regarding the potential for pressuring Ukraine to engage in negotiations with Russia. This perspective is gaining traction not only within the United States but also among European allies of Kyiv

Where discussions of peace talks were once considered off-limits in the EU, there now appears to be a "squiet recognition" of the likelihood that Ukraine may have to make territorial concessions

Gas prices in Europe are rising amid cold weather and supply risks

Gas futures on the TTF hub in the Netherlands have already risen by more than 4.5% today and are trading at $526 thousand m3, up almost 20% since the beginning of November

Temperatures in northwest Europe are expected to drop again in the coming days. Meanwhile, Woodside Energy Group Ltd. shut down its Pluto liquefied natural gas plant in Australia due to an unplanned outage, adding to supply concerns

Cold and weak winds in Europe have led to a faster-than-usual withdrawal of gas from storage facilities this month. While they are still about 87% full, the faster fuel consumption makes the region more vulnerable to the end of winter

HSBC Holdings Pic. expects Europe to emerge from the heating season with reserves 42% full, well below last year's 59%

India suspends Parliament again in row over US action on Adani

India's Lower House of Parliament suspended proceedings for a second day on Nov 27 after disruptions by lawmakers demanding a discussion of the US indictment of billionaire Gautam Adani, while stocks of his group's companies clawed back some losses

Last week, the US authorities accused him, his nephew and executive director Sagar Adani and managing director of Adani Green, Vneet S. Jaain, of being part of a scheme to pay bribes of US$265 million (S$356 million) to secure Indian power supply contracts and misleading US investors

The ports-to-power conglomerate denied the charges as "baseless" and vowed to seek "all possible legal recourse"

India's opposition, especially the Congress party, accuse Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of shielding Adani and blocking investigations against him in India, accusations that have been denied

Parliament proceedings were disrupted for the second day since the winter session began this week, with MPs shouting slogans and demanding discussion of the Adani allegations

How Trump can make the Nixonian dream of 1,000 nuclear power plants a reality

President-elect Donald Trump recently hinted at his support for nuclear energy on Joe Rogan’s podcast, calling it “better” than other energy sources and expressing interest in advancing small modular reactors

His endorsement comes amid soaring electricity demands from Big Tech’s AI products and an urgent need for reliable energy to supercharge America’s economic future and restore U.S. energy independence. About 50 years ago, President Richard Nixon envisioned a similar path, laying the groundwork to construct, as the Atomic Energy Commission predicted, 1,000 nuclear reactors across the country by the year 2000. Although Nixon’s plan ultimately faltered due to high costs, construction setbacks, and his resignation, today’s renewed interest in nuclear raises the question: Are we finally ready to bring Nixon’s nuclear dream to life?
