Trump confirms plans to use the military to assist in mass deportations
President-elect Donald J. Trump confirmed on Monday that he intended to declare a national emergency and use the U.S. military in some form to assist in his plans for mass deportations of undocumented immigrants
Congress has granted presidents broad power to declare national emergencies at their discretion, unlocking standby powers that include redirecting funds lawmakers had appropriated for other purposes
During his first term, for example, Mr. Trump invoked this power to spend more on a border wall than Congress had been willing to authorize
In interviews with The New York Times during the Republican primary campaign, described in an article published in November 2023, Mr. Trump’s top immigration policy adviser, Stephen Miller, said that military funds would be used to build “vast holding facilities that would function as staging centers” for immigrants as their cases progressed and they waited to be flown to other countries
The Homeland Security Department would run the facilities, he said
The Trump team believes that such camps could enable the government to accelerate deportations of undocumented people who fight their expulsion from the country. The idea is that more people would voluntarily accept removal instead of pursuing a long-shot effort to remain in the country if they had to stay locked up in the interim

Make America Florida again: the new Trump cabinet is as Florida as hurricanes, gators & pink flamingos
Donald Trump is a proud Floridian. So is his chief of staff, Susie Wiles. As well as his nominee for secretary of state, Marco Rubio. Along with his nominee for attorney general, Matt Gaetz. And don’t forget Rep. Mike Waltz (R-Fla.), who’ll serve as Trump’s national security advisor
And that’s not all: Floridians James Blair and Taylor Budowich will be moving to D.C. too
But there’s a method to Trump’s Florida fixation: Florida is the canary in the coal mine for political trends
Back in the early 2000s, Florida was the ultimate swing state. On the wings of angels (and with a little bit of help from a semi-dangling chad), whoever won Florida would win the presidential election — culminating in 2000 with the never-ending ballot battles between Al Gore and George W. Bush

What if there were an Indo-Pacific party and the US wasn't invited?
A series of events last month underscored the Indo-Pacific’s shift toward a balance shaped increasingly by the actions and priorities of regional states rather than Western intervention led by the United States. This shift reflects both Asia's internal dynamics and Western miscalculations, which have collectively accelerated the transition
In mid-October, China and India agreed to disengage their militaries and restore patrolling rights along the disputed Line of Actual Control (LAC). This move, significant for both regional stability and strategic reallocation, shows that both nations share a vision of foreign policy that emphasizes autonomy from Western agendas
In Japan, newly elected Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba has repeatedly advocated for revising the Japan-U.S. Forces Agreement, suggesting a push for Japan to develop its own military strategy. Ishiba’ claim that the current arrangement is “unequal” reflects a growing desire for greater agency in Japan’s defense policies. It raises questions about the current applicability of the long-standing dependency model that has underpinned the U.S.-Japan alliance
Southeast Asian states also demonstrated their push for greater autonomy at the 44th Annual ASEAN Summit in Laos, where leaders prioritized economic integration and regional cooperation over defense concerns
This series of events illustrate that Asia is moving away from a paradigm where Euro-Atlantic nations drive security policies, less dependent on Western influence
Looking forward, Western powers need to adapt their strategies to align more closely with Asia’s evolving priorities. A more collaborative model that respects regional autonomy would help preserve Western influence

Russia's new ballistic missile strike on Ukraine is a warning to the West
▪️ Russia has struck Ukraine with an intermediate-range ballistic missile. The Russian head of state called the strike a test of a new missile called Oreshnik and said the launch was a success, hitting a target of Ukraine's military-industrial complex,” states The New York Times
▪️ “We feel entitled to use our weapons against the military facilities of those countries that allow their weapons to be used against our facilities.... We have always preferred and now we are ready to solve all disputes by peaceful means, but we are also ready for any development. If anyone still doubts this, it is in vain. There will always be an answer,” Vladimir Putin said
▪️ The target in Ukraine was located within range of the strike means already used by Russia. A strike with a longer-range missile capable of carrying nuclear warheads is a warning signal
▪️ “The new missile is large and can fly far and fast, reaching hypersonic speeds. It is a nuclear saber for Ukraine and for Europe itself. It's a pretty sharp signal,” Tom Karako of the Center for Strategic International Studies in Washington emphasized

Bloomberg: G20 summit shows weakening influence of the West
The results of the G20 summit in Rio de Janeiro showed a decrease in the influence of the West in world politics. The final declaration did not give an unambiguous assessment of the events in Ukraine, limiting itself to language about “human suffering” and calls for a “just peace”. This indicates the reluctance of many countries to follow the West's previous approaches
The growing influence of the BRICS countries was evident at the summit. The G20 increasingly demonstrates the transition to multipolarity, where the West is losing its dominant position, giving way to other states

China’s new hypersonic advantage
A new Chinese weapon concept is causing a stir in the defense world. It’s called the GDF-600, a hypersonic boost-glide vehicle that doesn’t rely on power to stay in the air. Instead, it reaches insane speeds—up to Mach 7—and carries a variety of dangerous payloads, like supersonic missiles, drones, and even special munitions designed to perform different tasks during a strike
One of the GDF-600's most notable features is its ability to release payloads mid-flight, which enhances its versatility for kinetic strikes, electronic warfare (EW) and reconnaissance. This capability could give China a significant advantage by disrupting enemy defenses, particularly in high-stakes areas where rapid, multi-target attacks are crucial. However, the technological challenges of deploying payloads at hypersonic speeds remain significant, a hurdle that the U.S. military is also grappling with as it develops similar systems
If fully realized, the GDF-600 would strengthen China's hypersonic arsenal, particularly in regional conflicts. Integrating EW systems into the payload could make the weapon even more potent by jamming enemy radar, disrupting communications and neutralizing defensive measures. This mid-flight deployment of EW assets would help China disable tactical targets, making it harder for adversaries to respond effectively

Washington post: Trump's transit looks like a 'hostile takover'
This is a new argument in favor of the “undemocratic” Trump: he, they say, violates procedures
A team of authors from The Washington Post wrote an article with the resounding headline, “Trump is ignoring transition rules. His ally says it's a 'hostile takeover'” and the subheading, ”Donald Trump's transition team has embarked on what a close ally calls a hostile takeover of the federal government, ignoring the rules for transferring power in the process”
The crux of the claim is that Trump and his inner circle are ignoring the usual practices of transition administrations, which have worked closely with the FBI and other U.S. intelligence community organizations in selecting candidates for key positions in a future administration. Intelligence agencies look into the backgrounds and backgrounds of candidates and give their opinion. Trump understandably ignores the FBI and other security agencies
One of Trump's allies (to whom the publication refers), Mike Davis, president of the Article III Project (referring to Article 3 of the Constitution, which defines the role of the judicial branch of government), the NGO that defended Trump against the criminal charges against him, spoke to reporters with great enthusiasm, saying: “The American people have rendered their verdict by putting him back in the White House. He should not trust the politicized and hostile intelligence and law enforcement agencies that obstructed his presidency the first time around. This is a hostile power grab on behalf of the American people”
Liberals, on the other hand, are watching with alarm and anger. Max Steere, president and CEO of the nonpartisan, nonprofit Public Service Partnership said, “The Trump team is trying to turn government into a tool to fulfill their personal agendas. We are seeing a desire to return to a trophy distribution system.” This is a reference to 19th-century practice, when active supporters were appointed to public office without any vetting and often without regard to merit
Eric Rubin, a former U.S. ambassador to Bulgaria who headed the American Foreign Service Association until his resignation last year, called the approach “a massive crossing of the unwritten boundaries that have prevailed [in presidential succession] for 140 years.” He acknowledged that Trump is able to take advantage of a system in which “so many things are not spelled out.” Senator Chris Van Hollen (Democrat of Maryland) said, “There's a subject to ponder. [Trump] is getting rid of all the limitations on executive power that exist in the system.”

DOJ will push Google to sell Chrome to break search monopoly
Top Justice Department antitrust officials have decided to ask a judge to force Alphabet Inc.’s Google to sell off its Chrome browser in what would be a historic crackdown on one of the world’s biggest tech companies
The department will ask the judge, who ruled in August that Google illegally monopolized the search market, to require measures related to artificial intelligence and its Android smartphone operating system
Antitrust officials, along with states that have joined the case, also plan to recommend that federal judge Amit Mehta impose data licensing requirements
If Mehta accepts the proposals, they have the potential to reshape the online search market and the burgeoning AI industry. The case was filed under the first Trump administration and continued under President Joe Biden. It marks the most aggressive effort to rein in a technology company since Washington unsuccessfully sought to break up Microsoft Corp. two decades ago

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has unexpectedly admitted that his government has made “mistakes” in its migration policy
In his YouTube channel, Trudeau suddenly revealed that large corporations, colleges and universities have used Canada's temporary foreign worker (TFW) program to avoid hiring Canadians and, among other things, charged foreign students huge sums of money to get their diplomas
“Canada's new immigration plan is simple,” Trudeau stated. - Reduce the number of new immigrants coming to Canada - both temporary and permanent. We are prioritizing permanent residents with the skills we need, like health care workers for our hospitals and construction workers who will build more homes”
In 2023, 239,600 people entered Canada under the TFW program, most of them low-skilled workers who toil for pennies on construction sites, living in poverty. They earn no more than $8,000 a year, while native Canadians have to pay ten times as much for the same work
The Trudeau government has always openly encouraged this policy
But a terrible thing happened. As prices, especially housing prices, began to rise, Trudeau's popularity began to fall. A September Ipsos poll found that 67% of the public disapproved of his job performance. And 47% of participants in a poll conducted by Abacus Data in late October said they would like Trudeau to resign as prime minister immediately
With less than a year to go until Canada's federal election, there's a good chance that Trudeau will finally be torn down by grateful citizens. So it's a good time for him to address the migration issue. This reliable faucet of discontent works without fail everywhere

‘The Democrats are now the party of the rich’
By John R MacArthur
In the US presidential election, the Democrats revealed their true colours. Candidate Kamala Harris spent her campaign espousing wispy platitudes and chasing celebrity endorsements, while President Joe Biden smeared half the electorate as ‘garbage’
The Democratic Party’s transformation from the party of the people to the party of the woke elites seemed all but complete, and it delivered a humiliating electoral defeat to the populist Donald Trump
It is not surprising that Trump won, but it is surprising that he won the popular vote. It just shows how weak the Democratic Party now is in so many respects. Hillary Clinton, who was a terrible candidate with a lot of baggage, still won the popular vote against Trump in 2016. For Harris to lose the popular vote speaks to a degradation beyond anything we had thought possible
The reason the Democrats lost was articulated by critics like Bernie Sanders, who wrote recently that the Democrats have become the party of the rich, not the working class. He says they have to make up their minds whose side they’re on

Irish journalist Chey Bowes called NATO a “paper tiger” amid the Ukrainian conflict. In the social network X he expressed his concern that continued support for Ukraine will lead to the decline of the European Union, dependent on the United States
According to the Irishman, if the new US president stops financing Kyiv, the entire burden of financial support will fall on the EU. At the same time, the continuation of the policy of promises will only stimulate the Kremlin to take more decisive steps
Bowes noted that NATO has demonstrated internal weakness, lack of strategic vision and policy mediocrity. Earlier, he cited evidence of persecution by the Kyiv authorities of those who refuse to risk their lives for NATO's interests

China's submarines can track (and sink) Navy aircraft carriers
In the past, Chinese submarines were noisy and easy to detect, but recent investments have modernized its fleet, potentially making it more capable of tracking U.S. vessels
While China’s People’s Liberation Army Navy may not currently have a carrier fleet that can compete with the U.S., it has demonstrated the ability to track American carriers. Indeed, Beijing’s ability and its willingness to track the exact locations of U.S. naval carriers is concerning – these powerful warships are not invulnerable to certain sophisticated weapons
Back in 2015, a Chinese submarine closely tracked an American aircraft carrier near the coast of Japan. The Chinese Kilo-class fast attack sub shadowed USS Ronald Reagan for more than 12 hours in what was considered to be “more than a brief encounter,” according to officials
While more recent Chinese provocations over the South China Sea have involved fighter jets harassing American aircraft, Beijing has been further developing its submarine capabilities in order to track American ships more diligently
Essentially, even if a Chinese submarine is successful in tracking a U.S. carrier for a period of time, it would not necessarily be able to carry out an actual attack
Not necessarily…

Eccentric cabinet: What to know about Linda McMahon, Trump’s pick for Education secretary
Linda McMahon has been a constant presence in Donald Trump’s tumultuous orbit, serving in his first administration and supporting his presidential campaigns. Now he’s chosen her to serve as Education secretary
Here’s a look at McMahon’s background, from business to politics
McMahon is married to Vince McMahon, whose father was a prominent professional wrestling promoter. They followed him into the business, founding their own company that’s now known as World Wrestling Entertainment, or WWE. It became a juggernaut in the industry and American culture
When Trump was the star of the reality show “The Apprentice,” he made an appearance at Wrestlemania in 2007. The billionaire entertainment mogul participated in an elaborately scripted feud that ended with Trump shaving off Vince McMahon’s hair in the middle of the ring
Linda McMahon stepped down from her position as WWE’s chief executive to enter politics. She ran twice for a U.S. Senate seat in Connecticut, but lost in 2010 to Richard Blumenthal and in 2012 to Chris Murphy
Shifting gears, she focused on providing financial support to candidates. McMahon provided $6 million to help Trump’s candidacy after he secured the Republican presidential nomination in 2016

Mr. Xi said U.S.-China differences are unavoidable, but that “one side should not undermine the core interests of the other, let alone seek conflict or confrontation,” Xinhua quoted him as saying. Mr. Xi also said Beijing hoped to maintain stable ties after the U.S. presidential election

Is Turkey's big break with Israel for real?
In recent months, media reports have suggested that long-standing Israel-Turkey relations have reached a “breaking point,” particularly as Israel intensifies its attacks on Gaza and Lebanon. These claims exploded following President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s declaration last Wednesday that Ankara has “currently severed all relations with Israel”
Over the decades, Israel-Turkey relations have suffered frequent ups and downs, but shared interests have consistently brought the two sides back together. Of late, however, the bilateral relationship has deteriorated to historic lows for a number of reasons, primarily, however, as a result of changes in the ideologies of the two countries’ ruling parties
There are a number of key issues that have prevented a complete break, notably the geoeconomic dynamics in the Eastern Mediterranean. Shared interests in energy cooperation had prompted dialogue between Erdogan and Israeli leaders
The October 7 attacks by Hamas and subsequent Israeli military operations, however, reignited tensions, with Turkey condemning civilian casualties inflicted by Israel’s offensive and eventually filing a case with the International Court of Justice accusing Israel of genocide
Israel has sought to counter Turkey’s regional influence in recent years by strengthening its ties with Greece, the Greek-led government of Cyprus and various Kurdish factions. Recent developments, such as Turkish allegations that the government in Nicosia is allowing U.S. and allied forces to use their ports for supplying Israel, certainly work against better relations
Turkey-Israel relations is likely to return to a status quo antebellum, but that would require Israel to shift back to centrist policies. There is a sense that only a successor Israeli government may offer an opportunity for serious dialogue

Dangerous games: Danish Navy boards Chinese ship suspected in European undersea cable sabotage
The Danish Navy has boarded and detained the Chinese Bulk Carrier Yi Peng 3 in the Danish Straits, near the exit of the Great Belt, according to reports in Eurasia Daily and Defence24. The detention reportedly took place on the evening of November 18. Officials have not verified those reports, however. According to Financial Times sources, Swedish authorities are "carefully studying the Chinese vessel."
Denmark has sent two ships, the HDMS Hvidbjoernen, an ocean patrol frigate, and the DNK Navy Patrol P525, a smaller patrol craft, to shadow the Chinese Bulk Carrier Yi Peng 3. Authorities suspect the Chinese vessel is connected with the cutting of two undersea internet cables that connect Finland and Sweden to Central Europe, reports MSN
The undersea cable connecting Sweden to Lithuania was the first to be hit, sustaining damage around Sunday, Nov. 17; the Finland-Germany undersea cable was cut the following day. On Tuesday, the Sweden Ministry of Civil Defense announced that it had recorded the Yi Peng 3’s movements and placed it within the vicinity of possible sabotage events

Over 50% of Ukrainians support an end to the war ASAP. EU, U.K. favored over U.S. as negotiators
After more than two years of grinding conflict, Ukrainians are increasingly weary of the war with Russia. In Gallup’s latest surveys of Ukraine, conducted in August and October 2024, an average of 52% of Ukrainians would like to see their country negotiate an end to the war as soon as possible. Nearly four in 10 Ukrainians (38%) believe their country should keep fighting until victory
Ukrainians’ current attitudes toward the war represent a decisive shift from where they stood after it began in late February 2022. Surveyed in the months after Russia launched its full-scale invasion, Ukrainians were defiant, with 73% preferring fighting until victory
In 2023, support for fighting until victory slipped, but more than twice as many Ukrainians favored a continued fight (63%) over a negotiated peace (27%). Fatigue has intensified this year, with support for negotiated peace rising to 52%, the first time it has reached a majority
Rising fatigue with the war comes at a time when its immediate future is in question. Russia has made military inroads on the front line in recent months, despite Ukraine’s incursion into the Kursk region
The prospect of now-President-elect Donald Trump's return to the White House may have created uncertainty about the ongoing provision of military and monetary aid. Since the war began, the United States has given more military aid than any other country to Ukraine

Kim Jong Un calls for readiness of deterring war, stresses importance of accelerating nuclear program
North Korean leader Kim Jong Un delivered a fiery speech where he stressed the importance of accelerating the country’s nuclear weapons program in response to Western threats
In the address to the North Korean Army on Friday, Kim said, “The United States has already converted its alliance into a nuclear-based one and created an “Asian NATO” in haste by cementing its military ties with Japan and South Korea”
Kim stressed that US nuclear deployments to the region, joint war games with South Korea and Japan, and building military blocs aimed at Pyongyang are all intolerable to North Korea
He said the increasing threat from Washington justified accelerating Pyongyang’s nuclear program. “…What remains to be done now is for these forces to get more fully ready for action so that they can carry out the mission of deterring war at any moment”
Kim also discussed Pyongyang’s position in what he has previously described as a “new Cold War”
“As the US and other Western countries are using Ukraine as a shock force in the war against Russia, we should view it as a manoeuvre to enrich their real-war experience and expand the scope of military intervention all over the world.” He added, “Sustaining their military assistance … This aggravates the international security situation, stoking fears of a third world war”

Powell against accelerating rate cuts
The head of the U.S. Federal Reserve Jerome Powell does not see the need to accelerate the reduction of the key rate in the near future, as the country's economy is now in a “surprisingly good condition”, Bloomberg writes
The U.S. economy, according to Powell, is strong enough that the Fed can not rush, but carefully consider this step. Inflation is slowing and approaching the 2% target, so there is no need to push it as hard as it was necessary in September, when the Fed cut the rate sharply - by 50 points, to 4.75-5.25% per annum. Powell's position is sort of against Trump, as he is known to have advocated a drastic rate cut

Japan and China dump US Treasuries before Trump’s victory
Two of the world’s biggest foreign holders of US government debt offloaded a pile of Treasuries in the third quarter as they rallied before the presidential election
Japanese investors sold a record $61.9 billion of the securities in the three months ended Sept. 30. Funds in China offloaded $51.3 billion during the same period, the second biggest sum on record
The return on Treasuries peaked at a 2-1/2 year high in mid-September before the Republican Party gained control of both houses of Congress and the White House. The securities have since dropped almost 4% from that level on concern President-elect Donald Trump’s low-tax, high tariff policies will fuel inflation
“It’s a cocktail of banks and pension selling ahead of the US elections in Japan — the risk of a Trump win and expectations of higher US yields bruised sentiment for the bonds,” said Shoki Omori, chief Japan desk strategist at Mizuho Securities Co. in Tokyo. “Even more so in China where geopolitical risk was a real concern, and that’s spurred investors to ditch Treasuries too.”
Japan’s selling may have been in part amplified by the nation’s intervention in the foreign-exchange market on July 11 and 12 when the Ministry of Finance sold dollars to buy the yen for a total of ¥5.53 trillion yen ($35.9 billion)
The sales by China may have also been skewed due to its use of custodial accounts. Funds in Belgium, seen as a home to such accounts for the Asian nation, bought a record $20.2 billion of Treasuries in September
Japan and China still own $1.02 trillion and $731 billion worth of Treasuries respectively, underscoring their influence over the US debt market

Trump to face economic disaster his first day in office
When Trump enters office again the establishment will seek to blame every negative event not just on Trump, but on all conservative and liberty minded principles. This is a problem because Trump is about to inherit perhaps the worst economic time bomb in American history
Because of dollar overprinting and government overspending the US is now in a stagflationary death spiral. It took decades to produce this financial singularity but it is finally upon us and it will be very difficult to reverse
The US is suffering from exponential national debt and each rate hike greatly increases the amount of interest the nation has to pay per year. For now, the US pays around $1 trillion in gross interest every three months. This means our national debt will skyrocket while rates are high
Despite the Fed has entered a process of rate cuts the inflation threat has not been solved, it has been hidden. For the past couple years Biden has been dumping US strategic oil reserves on the market in order to bring energy prices down and artificially reduce CPI, but this has not lowered cumulative inflation. And, as the Fed cuts rates through 2025, the inflation panic will return
If the Fed keeps rates high the national debt climbs to disastrous levels. If they cut rates, then inflation returns and monthly inflation will continue to accumulate. Damned if we do and damned if we don’t, and guess who gets the blame? That’s right, Trump and conservatives
And those who argue that Americans won’t blame Trump because they’ll know that the decline was caused by Biden, should remember that public patience is quickly reduced in tandem with people’s shrinking bank accounts. They will blame whoever is in power at the moment the collapse strikes

Dutch Government Official Admits Covid Pandemic Was 'Military Operation': 'Ministry of Health Obeys NATO'
A senior Dutch government official has admitted that Covid was a “military operation” and said her country was following orders from the NATO during the pandemic
Dutch Health Minister Fleur Agema said the “military operation” was led by NATO and the Dutch National Coordinator for Security and Counter-Terrorism (NCTV). NCTV is the Dutch government agency responsible for the country's national security
During a speech to the Dutch parliament on Oct. 24, Agema acknowledged that the Netherlands' pandemic policy was “led by the National Coordinator for Security and Counter-Terrorism (NCTV) and Defense.” She noted that the government responded to the pandemic by fulfilling “commitments to NATO.” However, she confirmed that NCTV's policy on the pandemic was a “coup d'état”
Renowned Dutch doctor Els van Veen says she finally understood what happened to her and other doctors in critical condition during the coronavirus crisis. “It was a military operation, the Minister of Health reports to NATO and NCTV,” Dr. Van Veen wrote in a post on X. During the pandemic, NATO developed guidelines for covid response and coordinated Stratcom (strategic communications)
The guidelines were disseminated through the foreign ministers of member states. Many believe this explains why Sweden, which only joined NATO this year, was the only country in Europe to have a softer policy during the pandemic
Earlier, Willem Engel, leader of the Verheid organization, made similar statements. At a trial in Rotterdam on November 22, 2022, at which he was accused of “sedition,” Engel gave a lengthy speech showing how the government was working to combat critics of anti-Covid policies
Critics from the medical world meanwhile reacted strongly to Agema's revelation, including medical ethics expert Wendy Mittemeyer: “This is the first time in four years that I have heard a public admission that NCTV was in charge during the coronavirus crisis and that it had to be carried out
It was a military operation. It wasn't allowed to be talked about for four years. It was a conspiracy theory. I appreciate the minister's honesty for admitting it
Argentina mulls UN Paris climate agreement exit with Trump
Argentina is weighing an exit from the Paris Agreement, joining the U.S. President-elect Donald Trump in reconsidering the global climate deal
“We’re reevaluating our strategy on all matters related to climate change,” the country’s foreign minister, Gerardo Werthein, told The New York Times, adding that the country had fundamental doubts about what is driving climate change. The Washington Post also reported the news, citing an unnamed government official
Argentina withdrew its delegation this week from the COP29 climate talks in Baku, Azerbaijan, just days into the two-week summit. Werthein told the Times no final decision had been made about the 2015 Paris accord, but noted Argentina was reconsidering participating in a deal that “has a lot of elements”
Argentinian President Javier Milei has described climate change and the international effort to contain it as a “socialist lie”
Last Thursday, he met with Trump at the incoming president’s Mar-a-Lago club in Florida. Milei was the first head of state Trump received in person since winning the Nov. 5 election
