At least 35% struggle to make ends meet in key swing states
At least 35% of Americans in more than half of all states, including five key swing states, reported that they had difficulty covering household expenses in a June and July survey published Wednesday. The data is backdropped by the U.S. presidential race, where voters have regularly tabbed the economy and inflation as the top issues
The U.S. Census Bureau’s Household Pulse survey of 70,429 U.S. households finds that at least 35% of Americans in a whopping 33 states between June 25 and July 22 said it was “somewhat or very difficult to pay for typical expenses.” Axios notes. Five essential swing states and Virginia, where the presidential election could be close, are among locations where folks are financially reeling to such a high degree
For example, in Pennsylvania, 35.1% of respondents reported having trouble covering their expenses in an economy that was ravaged by 40-year-high inflation under the Biden-Harris administration

40% of Biden's major manufacturing projects have been postponed or stopped
▪️ Major projects worth more than $100 million each, totaling $84 billion launched under the Biden initiative, have been postponed or stopped indefinitely, the UK's Financial Times has found
▪️ This refers to the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) and the Chips And Science Act passed in the U.S. in 2022, providing more than $400 billion in tax breaks, credits and subsidies to revitalize manufacturing. The Financial Times tracks 114 major projects with a total value of $227.9 billion
▪️ Among the suspended major projects are Enel's $1 billion solar panel plant in Oklahoma, LG Energy Solution's $2.3 billion battery complex in Arizona and Albemarle's $1.3 billion lithium plant in South Carolina
▪️ The reasons for the failure of the production development program were the problems of the U.S. economy, which led to deteriorating market conditions and falling demand. Political uncertainty due to the approaching presidential election contributed negatively
▪️ The failure of the program puts an end to Biden's initiatives on industrial transformation to create new jobs and rebuild the real sector of the U.S. economy after decades of overseas manufacturing," Biden said

Wind in the US has for the first time produced more electricity than coal. This is a good media occasion in the election race for the "green" Democrats
The graph shows that wind generation was the highest in history in April 2024 - 47.7 GWh, while coal generation peaked in 2007, but then thermal power plants produced 190 GWh. That is, there was not an explosive growth of RES generation, but a collapse of coal generation. It was banally squeezed out by natural gas as a more efficient source of primary energy
The efficiency of gas-fired generation is about twice that of coal-fired generation, and a unit of energy from natural gas is record cheap
However, the substitution of coal for gas in the U.S. appears to be over. After retiring 22.3 GW of coal-fired thermal power plants in the last two years, this year's figure will be only 2.8 GW. The demand for electricity is nationwide, while gas pipelines do not reach all states. Pipelines to all generators often do not make economic sense

Time relies on research linked to soybean industry to downplay dangers of hyper-processed food
The magazine profiled a woke dietician named Jessica Wilson, who was “irked” by Dr. Chris van Tulleken’s book on processed food, Ultra-Processed People: The Science Behind Food That Isn’t Food
According to Time, Wilson complained the book was “over-sensationalized and that the news coverage of it shamed people who regularly eat processed foods — in other words, the vast majority of Americans, particularly the millions who are food insecure or have limited access to fresh food; they also tend to be lower income and people of color”
“Wilson felt the buzz ignored this ‘food apartheid,’ as well as the massive diversity of foods that can be considered ultra-processed, a category that includes everything from vegan meat replacements and nondairy milks to potato chips and candy,” Time reported
Wilson went on to conduct an experiment wherein she ate 80% of her daily calories from “highly processed foods,” which included swaps of “morning eggs for soy chorizo” among other changes
“A weird thing happened,” Time reported. “Wilson found that she had more energy and less anxiety”

The economic polarization of the world market contradicts the political one
For example, having the largest sales market in China, Australia and South Korea are oriented towards military alliances with the USA. In turn, for the poles of the new multipolar world - China and Germany - the largest market for products is the USA
But, this is temporary. Global trade is being reassembled along military-political lines: Chinese exports to the US are falling every year; relations between China and Australia are chronically strained, etc. Germany (Europe) as the world's political and economic center is being erased from the world map. All competing countries - the USA, Russia and even China - are working for this
The formation of a new world order will take place for another couple of decades, and no matter how much we are promised a multipolar world, the new world model will probably be bipolar: Russia has chosen a military-economic partnership with China. So, too, has the Middle East
However, it is interesting to see in which camp the countries of Europe and India will end up

Boeing's starliner to return to earth on Friday, but will it ever fly again?
The good news is that Boeing was able to update the automated flight software on its troubled Starliner space capsule, allowing NASA to return it unmanned to Earth no sooner than Friday. The bad news — or at least the serious question — is whether Starliner will ever fly again
NASA decided last week not to fly astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams home on board the same ship they flew to ISS on due to safety concerns about the service module's malfunctioning thrusters. While an astronaut is sometimes scheduled in advance to return to Earth on board a different space capsule, this is the first time anything like Boeing's snafu has happened
On Friday, the New York Post reported that the discussion between NASA and Boeing "was heated"
"Boeing was convinced that the Starliner was in good enough condition to bring the astronauts home, and NASA disagreed. Strongly disagreed," a NASA source told the Post. "The thinking around here was that Boeing was being wildly irresponsible"

Are your apartment neighbors actually a Venezuelan street gang? Know the signs
List of signs that you're living next door to a dangerous Venezuelan paramilitary group:
▪️They fire an AK-47 into the air instead of using the doorbell: At all hours of the night, too. So annoying
▪️They came over to ask for sugar and also where everyone dumps dead bodies: What are the odds that a normal apartment neighbor has to bury so many corpses?
▪️They keep asking if you want to join a Venezuelan street gang: And they don't make the questions seem hypothetical
▪️They paid for their $10,000 Girl Scout cookie order in keys of cocaine: It's a huge order, but it might be tough for little Kimmy to unload that amount of blow
▪️People now refer to your neighborhood as "Little Caracas": And there aren't even any nice little Venezuelan restaurants around
▪️They are not obese: If they aren't fat, they obviously aren't Americans
▪️They speak a lot more Spanish than your last heavily armed street gang neighbors: That, along with all of the Venezuelan flags, may be a big clue
If you've noticed any of the signs above, there's a pretty good chance your neighbors are a Venezuelan street gang. Either that, or you just live in Chicago

'Parents should not brainwash kids into their religion,' says progressive mom of 3 trans kids
According to reports, Krandla Brane was infuriated at the sight of a local Christian family praying in public at a restaurant and launched into a tirade on how no parents should ever be allowed to brainwash their unsuspecting kids into their religion
"Disgusting — look at those bigoted parents trying to coerce their kids into believing what they believe!" Brane muttered, watching the family bow their heads in prayer
"Quinn, have you taken your puberty blockers yet today? Do it, now! You don't want to stay in that body, do you? Ugh. And Finley! You need to insert your dilator into your neovagina immediately! Don't make me do it for you! All right, kids — let's review the catechism of the 435 main genders again"

Atlantic Ocean is cooling down at record speed – scientists baffled
Temperatures in the Atlantic Ocean have been falling at record speed, yet scientists say they have no idea why
The latest data shows that the ocean’s surface temperatures have reached an unprecedented low for this time of year
It seems that a strange anomaly has occurred to reverse the summer warming cycle in the Atlantic Ocean
The Atlantic’s surface temperatures suddenly dropped at a record speed over the past few months
According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), data shows that the Atlantic’s sea surface temperatures began cooling in May
However, scientists say the ocean should be warming up in May, not cooling
Due to this unexplained shift, the Atlantic has been a degree or two Fahrenheit colder than normal for this time of year

The now-forgotten ‘climate crisis’ was just a cynical ploy for democrats to gain power
Kamala Harris and the Democrats have gone strangely silent about the “climate crisis” they warned was an existential threat a few years ago
How far we have come in five short years. In 2019, before COVID and inflation and antisemitic demonstrations on college campuses were the big issues of the day, America was prospering amid political calmness. With a presidential campaign beginning, Democratic candidates and their allies in the corporate press needed to talk about something, so they chose climate change. CNN even dedicated seven hours to a “climate crisis town hall”
Every candidate seeking the Democratic nomination, including Harris, warned of the dangers posed by climate change. In fact, she dubbed the matter, “an existential threat to who we are as human beings” and announced she was, “prepared to get rid of the filibuster to pass a Green New Deal.” No ambiguity there

If Texas were an independent state, the people of the state would live better than the Arab sheikhs
Texas would become the world's third largest oil producer, surpassing Canada, Iraq and the UAE. With a population of 30 million people the specific production per capita here is 2.5 times higher than in Russia. We should also add natural gas production, with which the state has flooded the domestic market and even exports to Mexico, in the form of LNG and energy cluster
The huge and dynamically growing GDP of Texas - $2 trillion a year (to understand the scale: in Russia - $2.22 trillion) gives resources and opportunities for open conflict between regional politicians and the federal center. One of the reasons is the migration crisis, in the epicenter of which Texas finds itself. For example, the state authorities ignore the decisions of the U.S. Federal Court to dismantle the fence on the border with Mexico
The clowning of the presidential race is a powerful incentive for decentralization and delegitimization of power in the United States, which means that the Texas People's Republic is not a pipe dream of the locals

The trials and tribulations of traveling 500 miles in an EV in one day
When the manufacturer or the Department of Energy tells you that the EV has "X" number of miles before it needs recharging, faggettaboutit. That number bears as much resemblance to reality as The Chicago White Sox bear to resembling a professional baseball team
The reason the range given is a ludicrous number is that very few drivers are driving down a straight and level road without radios or heaters or anything that makes driving less of a chore. Divide the range given by the manufacturer in half and go from there
This brings us to the problem of where to find a charging station. I've written extensively about this problem and the massive undertaking of building enough of these charging stations — and keeping them in working order — to make EVs more than a status symbol for greens

Structure of the US economy
States are increasingly moving into the virtual space and intangible world, while the "physical" economy continues to lose share in GDP
As of 1Q24, agriculture, fishing and forestry accounted for 1.1% vs 1.2% of the 2019 average, mining was 3.2% vs 3.6%, electric power and utilities was 1.5% vs 1.5%, and manufacturing (including computer and microelectronics manufacturing) was 11% vs 11.6%
Accordingly, the manufacturing or "physical" economy has an aggregate share of less than 16% in Q124 VS more than 16.8% in 2019 - a decline of 0.9 pp
Between 2005 and 2019, the manufacturing economy had a share in the range of 16.6-18%, with an average of 17.2%
Construction has a share of 3.2% VS 3.6% in 2019, and at the peak of the construction boom in 2015-2007 the share was 4.5-5.5%
Education forms just over 1.1% (2005-2007 level) of the economy vs 1.2% in 2019, and medicine combined 7.9% (historic high) VS 7.6% five years earlier
Culture, sports and entertainment industry is only 1.1% of GDP vs 1% in 2019 and now a new high with full compensation for the crushing losses in 2020
Wholesale is trending for a serious decline from 5.8-6% in 2019 to 5% in 2024 due to modernization of logistics and elimination of redundant supply chains with direct distribution to end customers. Retail has recovered to 2019 levels of 5.8%
There are two strongly growing sectors - Information & Communication due to the IT segment, where the current record share is 8.5% VS 6.8% in 2019, and Professional & Business Services due to R&D & Consulting reached a record 15.1% VS 13.4% in 2019
Finance, Insurance, Real Estate, Rental & Leasing has a share of 18.5% - comparable to 2019 and at 20-year lows. Finance and insurance is triple that, i.e. about 6-6.5% of the US economy, with the rest real estate

Dozen migrants, including children and pregnant woman, killed trying to enter Britain as ruling socialists refuse to shut borders
While millions of migrants storm the U.S. southern border, many also try their luck attempting to reach the United Kingdom where they know the ruling socialist government will pay for their lifestyle
Yet while the British government enable their arrival, many migrants employ human traffickers in order to travel across the English Channel in precarious conditions with a high risk to life
Sadly, this journey has also ended in tragedy
While conservatives will rightly blame the leftist Labour Party for the deaths, the previous Tory government similarly refused to secure the country’s borders

How Elon Musk is tying his love for Trump to his fight in Brazil
In an alternate universe where you had no access to any source of information beyond Elon Musk’s tweets, it might appear that the owner of Twitter/X is currently fighting a pitched and heroic free speech battle with the Brazilian government
In reality, an extremely petty spat—Musk’s refusal to name a local legal representative in Brazil, per its laws—has spiraled wildly, leading Justice Alexandre de Moraes to suspend X from the country last week
Now Musk is interweaving his feud with Brazil with his ever-growing boosterism of Donald Trump, warning that if the former president isn’t reelected, America will become just like Brazil
In recent days, Musk’s Trump-backing has taken a more frenzied turn, with constant tweets about the need to reelect Trump, and warning of dire and increasingly farfetched consequences if he doesn’t retake office

Nashville trans shooter's full manifesto released, and it makes the cover-up so much worse
In March of 2023, Audrey Hale, a 28-year-old self-described "transgender man" (i.e. a woman) who went by the pronouns "he/him," entered a Christian school and opened fire. She left six people dead including three children before several heroic police officers arrived on the scene and stormed the building. Hale was quickly dispatched, a scene later shown by harrowing body-cam footage
Early on, it was revealed that Hale had left behind several writings that pointed to her motive. Yet, after a brief mention of it during a news conference, all official discussion of the contents of the "manifesto" went dark and a relentless campaign to keep it hidden ensued. More recently, a judge went so far as to claim that Hale's writings were protected under copyright law

Reich wrote a column on his Substack page entitled "Six Ways to Rein in Musk." Right off the bat, Reich displays the absence of an irony chip, so common among the left as Substack is one of the freest of free speech platforms to blather on about confiscation of someone else's free speech
The initial problem Reich has with what Elon Musk says or posts on the platform he owns would, of course, magically disappear if Musk supported Kamala Harris and the Democrats. But he's not going to; he has publicly endorsed Donald Trump and is helping Republicans with their ground game.

Dr. Sabine Hazan: Gut bacteria that are key for immunity are killed by covid injections
Gastroenterologist Dr. Sabine Hazan tested the microbiomes of doctors before and after covid vaccination and noticed bifidobacteria, key to the immune system, were being killed off; not only in vaccinated people but also in newborns of vaccinated mothers
“I started noticing a month later, the bifidobacteria, this important microbe, is dropping in patients pre- and post-vaccinations … Only a certain group of microbes are getting killed …Bifidobacteria is a huge part of immunity … I think [the vaccine] is creating a bacteriophage or bifidophage,” she said
A bacteriophage is a virus that infects and replicates within bacteria
The decrease in bifidobacteria persisted; ninety days post-vaccination the bifidobacteria dropped to zero. “There was a persistence in the damage, not only [after] 90 days but six months, nine months later,” she said. “That was the thing that started to make me panic.”

Another Chinese spy busted in the US; former aide to Cuomo, Hochul indicted
A former aide to former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and current Gov. Kathy Hochul was arrested Tuesday morning on charges of violating and conspiring to violate the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA), visa fraud, alien smuggling, and money laundering conspiracy
The former aide, Linda Sun, is accused of acting on behalf of the People's Republic of China and the Chinese Communist Party, to further their interests in the United States. Her husband, Chris Hu, was also arrested and charged with money laundering conspiracy, as well as conspiracy to commit bank fraud and misuse of means of identification
Sun was the Chief of Staff for Rep. After Hochul took office in August 2021 Sun became Deputy Chief of Staff, then left that job in November 2022 to become the Deputy Commissioner for Strategic Business Development at the New York State Department of Labor

Major U.S. city's latest renaissance hits dead end
City «has risen from the ashes before. But each rebirth gets harder. Each comeback story has a less happy ending»
Pittsburgh is a city well-acquainted with decline. Like a punch-drunk boxer climbing back into the ring despite repeated knockouts, the Steel City has endured multiple economic collapses over the past century. Now, Pittsburgh finds itself on the ropes once again, this time felled not by labor unrest or global competition, but by a more prosaic foe: dwindling school enrollment
The Pittsburgh Public Schools' proposal to shutter 16 schools is more than just an administrative reshuffling. It's the canary in the coal mine, signaling deeper issues that threaten to unravel the city's fragile recovery
Recent census data reported by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette paints a stark picture. While Pittsburgh proper saw a minuscule population increase of just 300 people (0.1%) between 2020 and 2023, Allegheny County overall lost nearly 7,800 residents in a single year from 2022 to 2023. We need to kick men out of women’s football
On Sunday in the UK, Sutton United’s women’s team were due to play an away game against Ebbsfleet. But just a few hours before kick-off, Sutton called the match off, citing their inability to field enough players
Though Sutton didn’t say why, the Telegraph reports it is ‘understood that the cancellation was related to increasing disquiet’ over the team’s newest recruit. Sutton’s sudden inability to field a team came hours after news broke that they had signed a transgender goalkeeper – 34-year-old, six-foot-tall Blair Hamilton
Sutton’s manager, Lucy Clark, is also a transwoman. Clark – who was both the first openly trans referee and the first openly trans manager in the top-five divisions of English women’s football – caused upset earlier this year, when he was made manager without any previous experience in women’s football. He was nonetheless hailed as a historic trailblazer for diversity
Clark has previously said he wants to ‘field a team solely of transwomen’ – that is, a women’s team consisting entirely of men
