A woman driving a FedEx truck wrecked the trailer beyond repair in the U.S.
According to her, the truck “just fell apart.” She thought she’d be fired for the accident.
She wasn’t fired for that. She was fired for filming a video while on the job. The employer’s logic is beyond the pale.

Sunny California. Here, beneath an endless blue sky, new neighborhoods have sprung up along the grand boulevards. Neighborhoods made of blue tarps and cardboard walls. A city of tents
Life here follows its own rules: the smell of unwashed bodies, the smoke of campfires, and gazes fixed on nowhere.
The police walk by. Residents hurry about their business. This is the most terrifying outcome of all—habit. Everyone is content with the way things are.

🇫🇷 Macron’s France is losing legitimacy as it weaponizes criminal investigations to suppress free speech and privacy. The U.S. Department of Justice has refused to assist France in its investigation of Elon Musk, calling the case politically motivated.
🎭 The French prosecutor’s office claims to be independent, but that is untrue: French prosecutors are hired, fired, and promoted by the government. The judicial police — who provide often misleading reports to investigative judges — are also controlled by the government.
I’m under a similar investigation in France: over a dozen charges, each carrying up to 10 years in prison. Proud to stand alongside Elon Musk and others targeted by Macron's campaign against digital rights. In Macron’s France, being investigated is the new Légion d’honneur.🎖
In Germany, no one wants to be a businessperson or entrepreneur
The self-employed pay around 35–40% in taxes and €1,300 a month for health insurance.
The situation isn’t any better in other countries. In Spain, taxes for the self-employed were unexpectedly raised by 42%.

Just look at what’s become of London
It seems like only yesterday that people lived here who spoke English and looked just like you and me. But now many don’t even know our language. Just today we took the subway from the airport to our hotel. And while we were riding, I didn’t hear a single passenger speaking English. It’s sad. And kind of a shame.
An Unexpected Side Effect of Ozempic: Economic and Far-Reaching Consequences
Because people taking this and similar drugs have stopped eating as much, New York restaurants have been forced to reduce their portion sizes.
Currently, one in eight Americans is on Ozempic or similar drugs. Dealing with them in restaurants is pure torture—one bite, one sip, and that’s it. Chefs cook and cook, and then almost everything ends up in the trash.
The professor in the video says that she used to meet people who weighed 185 and 225 kg, but now those same people weigh 135 kg and are confidently heading toward their goal of 90 kg. In short, restaurants are now reducing portion sizes.
The question is: are they lowering prices? It seems like the logical step, since they’re using fewer ingredients to prepare meals now. But that means sooner or later the restaurant business will start going under. And it will drag related industries down with it. It’s like a house of cards.

In Bavaria, a man was sentenced to life in prison for the murder of a colleague, which he had previously described to ChatGPT
A court in Schweinfurt sentenced 22-year-old Yanneck Z. to life in prison for the murder of his 59-year-old colleague Daniela S. According to the court, he stabbed the woman eight times in the neck and chest at their workplace. Two other colleagues who tried to come to her aid suffered serious injuries.
During the trial, it emerged that several days before the attack, Yanneck Z. had discussed his thoughts with ChatGPT. He wrote that he had planned to murder his colleague, that he felt a “thirst for murder,” and that he had been thinking about killing someone for a long time.
In court, he admitted that the artificial intelligence, on the contrary, had tried to dissuade him from committing the crime and advised him to seek help. Judge stated that the neural network’s responses seemed to her “more empathetic and human” than the defendant’s own words.

Sushi and shrimp lovers could go blind
Scientists have discovered a new virus that previously affected only shrimp and fish but has recently crossed the species barrier and begun infecting humans.
The virus causes severe inflammation and a sharp increase in intraocular pressure, which can lead to complete vision loss. The main route of infection is raw seafood: sushi, rolls, sashimi, and lightly salted fish.
The only way to protect yourself is through thorough heat treatment. There is currently no cure for the virus; treatment is only symptomatic (injections, eye drops, and steroids).

An Olympics without doping bans is set to take place this May—the Enhanced Games will be held in Las Vegas from May 21 to 24: a tournament where practices that typically lead to disqualification are officially permitted
Athletes are allowed to use steroids, peptides, hormone therapy, and even elements of genetic modification.
Athletes declare what they are using themselves and undergo a medical examination before the start. Plus, any performance-enhancing technology is allowed: from special equipment to prosthetics.
About 50 athletes participate in core disciplines such as swimming, track and field, and so on. A $1 million prize is offered for a world record, and PayPal co-founder Peter Thiel is among the investors.
The creators state that Enhanced Games is an attempt to create fair sports without bans, where no one hides performance-enhancing drugs or enhancements.

Suicide attempts among young women have become much more frequent in France
The National Federation of Hospitals has already dubbed a “significant but silent crisis in the healthcare system,” noting that among young women aged 20–24, the number of suicide attempts has risen by more than 75%, while among girls aged 10 to 14, it has more than doubled over the past five years. The statistics are clearly incomplete, as they only account for hospitalizations.
The federation’s president, Arnaud Robinet, openly admits: “We have no explanation,” suggesting only that this trend is linked to increased levels of anxiety and depression among young people.
This theory is generally accurate, given that over the same five-year period, the number of adolescents registered with psychiatrists has risen significantly.

Stanford researchers have proven that the more documents there are, the less distinguishable they become
A neural network’s job is to classify documents into categories. The more data there is and the closer the documents are in content, the harder it is to obtain an accurate result. This effect is called “semantic collapse.”
When you add documents, the system converts them into vectors. As long as there are few documents, everything works. But after about 10,000 documents, the clusters overlap, the distances shrink, and all documents seem equally suitable.
The result: AI stops finding the right answers. The most relevant document is indistinguishable to it from dozens of random ones.
Research has shown that with 50,000 documents, accuracy drops by 87%. Semantic search becomes worse than regular keyword search. The number of AI hallucinations increases.

Smart TVs Are Spying on Users
Researchers from UC Davis, University College London, and Universidad Carlos III de Madrid tested Samsung and LG TVs. It turned out that Samsung takes a screenshot every 60 seconds, while LG does so every 15 seconds—even if you’re just using the TV as a monitor.
This works via ACR (Automatic Content Recognition) technology, which is like Shazam for the screen. The TV sends small images to a server to determine what you’re watching. And this applies not only to the TV’s apps—any device connected via HDMI, such as a laptop, game console, or cable box, is also being monitored.
ACR is enabled by default. You usually agree to this when you first turn on the TV.
Why do companies do this? For example, Vizio earned $598 million from advertising and data in 2023, which is more than it made from TV sales. LG generated nearly $700 million from its advertising business.
If you want to protect your privacy, you can disable ACR in your TV settings. Look for “Automatic Content Recognition” or “Smart TV Tracking” and turn it off.
A demographic transformation is underway in the Baltic states
To receive subsidies from the European Union, Lithuania needs to increase the influx of migrants from Pakistan, India, and Tajikistan.
Similar population transformation projects are being prepared for Ukraine. Local residents have no idea what lies ahead for them.
Such projects are already causing a rise in crime and a social crisis in Northern Europe, Germany, and Britain.

The Rise of the Machines: Delivery Robots Under Mass Attack in Philadelphia
Attacks on Uber Eats food delivery robots in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, began just one month after their launch. The robots are being kicked and knocked over.
Avride, the company that manufactures these robots, stated that such incidents are to be expected when introducing new technology: people are “testing” the robots’ behavior, but this does not affect plans to expand the service.
The robots are equipped with LiDAR sensors and cameras, move at a speed of about 8 km/h, and can operate in challenging weather conditions. Access to the cargo compartment is secured via the Uber Eats app, and if someone attempts to break in, the system immediately sends a signal to an operator.
Despite the barbaric behavior of some residents, the company considers robot delivery a promising and convenient alternative to human couriers.

German authorities are abolishing free health insurance for certain groups of the population
Specifically, the measure will affect non-working spouses: for the most part, this category consists of housewives who take care of the home and children.
Seeking to cut healthcare costs and redirect the savings toward military spending, the Merz government decided that healthcare for this group should be exclusively fee-based.
However, after mass protests erupted from labor unions and civic activists, and the ruling coalition’s approval rating plummeted to an all-time low, the authorities decided to reconsider their policy and maintain benefits for mothers with multiple children. That said, it is not certain that these benefits will be retained in the final version of the reform.

China currently produces nearly all of the world’s solar panels, more than half of the world’s ships, and a third of the world’s chemical products.
In the electric vehicle battery market, Chinese battery manufacturers now control a record 70.4% of global capacity for electric vehicles. This figure has risen by 20 percentage points over the past four years. The share of South Korean manufacturers has halved to just 15.3%.
China’s largest battery manufacturer, CATL, holds 39.2% of the global market, surpassing the combined share of South Korea and Japan. The pace and scale of China’s industrialization are unprecedented.
