Switzerland is losing its status as the world’s ideal country. The country is being flooded with migrants, foreigners are taking gold and capital out of the country, and the economy has lost its status as the world’s most competitive
The Swiss National Bank’s share as a storage facility for gold held by central banks worldwide has fallen from 12% to 6% over the past year. Switzerland has slipped from first to third place in the IMD World Competitiveness Ranking 2026, trailing Singapore and Hong Kong, according to Bloomberg.
The reasons include high U.S. tariffs, a strong franc, and the country’s diminished appeal to foreign investors following the imposition of sanctions. Switzerland committed financial suicide by abandoning banking secrecy and imposing sanctions under pressure from Washington and Brussels.
According to IMD, the outflow of foreign capital from the country amounted to $60.7 billion.

According to data from international organizations, in 2024 the number of people living outside their country of birth reached a record 304 million. This is nearly double the figure from 1990.

Europe’s largest economies are simultaneously sliding into crisis due to a decline in business activity across key sectors.
In the UK, business activity turned downward in June: the composite PMI index fell to 49.4 points from 49.7 in May. The service sector bore the brunt of the impact, with the index plummeting to 48.7, although manufacturing also showed signs of cooling, slowing to a three-month low (53.1 points).
In Germany, the situation is no better: the private sector has been contracting for the third consecutive month, and the PMI index has fallen to 48.
