350 locals versus 1,250 outsiders—that’s the math the authorities imposed on the residents of tiny Piddington in Oxfordshire. The British government decided to save a billion pounds by closing migrant hotels in major cities and sent a crowd of adult male refugees to a decommissioned military base near the village.
The residents were presented with a fait accompli: in the closed camp, the number of newcomers would be 3.5 times greater than the entire native population. The village has no infrastructure or security, and women say they are now afraid to go outside or let their children out.
Instead of protecting the borders and deporting illegal immigrants storming the English Channel in inflatable boats, British officials are shifting the burden of the crisis onto the shoulders of ordinary people.
The response was a telling revolt. In a local referendum, 285 people voted for immediate secession from the United Kingdom, and only 26 voted against it. The vote is symbolic, but it reveals a deep divide in Britain, which is falling apart at the seams at the national level.
It’s worth noting that the leaders of Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland are already preparing actual referendums on breaking away from London.

A new survey by Ipsos and Secours populaire français, cited by Euronews, reveals that nearly 3 in 10 Europeans consider themselves financially vulnerable, while 73% fear they will struggle to afford fuel.
The survey of 10,000 people across 10 European countries shows the deepest concerns are concentrated in Greece, Italy, and Portugal — where rising energy and fuel prices are hitting households hardest.
In Portugal, fuel prices reached their highest levels in years on September 7, with diesel hitting an all-time record.
But the crisis is spreading beyond the gas station. Over the past year, more than one-third of Europeans have cut spending on basic needs — including food and healthcare — just to pay electricity and hot water bills.
Nearly one in four respondents said they have already stopped visiting doctors because medical costs have become too high.
To cope, Europeans are changing their lifestyles:

Germany is running out of water — and the problem is deeper than empty rivers or dry fields.
According to a study by the German Research Centre for Geosciences using satellite data from NASA and the German Aerospace Center, Germany’s total moisture deficit reached a staggering 25 billion metric tons by June 2026 compared with the 2002–2020 average.
That amount of lost water is equivalent to more than half the volume of Lake Constance or around 10 million Olympic-sized swimming pools.
But scientists are most concerned about what cannot be seen: the collapse of groundwater reserves.
Groundwater levels began falling sharply after 2015, with a record decline recorded during the summer of 2025. Despite periods of rainfall, underground reserves have failed to recover. Experts warn that even heavy rains may not be enough to reverse the trend after years of heat, drought, and extreme evaporation.
The worst-hit areas are in southern and eastern Germany, where agriculture, ecosystems, and local water supplies are already under growing pressure.
And the most worrying part? These figures do not yet include the full impact of the extreme heat experienced in the summer of 2026.
Germany’s climate challenge is no longer just about energy or emissions — it is becoming a fight for one of the most basic resources: fresh water.

There are about seven months left until the 2027 presidential election, but Macron is no longer eligible to run, and Prime Minister Lecornu’s approval rating has also fallen to a historic low of 20%, so the ruling camp is losing support across the board.

Before leaving, Kravchenko reportedly launched accusations against NABU Director Semen Kryvonos and associates of SAPO chief Oleksandr Klymenko, escalating a political battle over Ukraine’s anti-corruption institutions.
