Germany is introducing emergency government support measures due to rising fuel prices amid the conflict surrounding Iran.
The €1.6 billion aid package will ease the burden on consumers and businesses. The energy tax on gasoline and diesel will be reduced by €0.17 per liter for two months. However, prices in the country have risen much more sharply and remain among the highest in the world.
German Chancellor Merz: We will feel the consequences of the war in Iran for a long time to come, even after it ends. We are preparing for a prolonged period of significant strain on the German economy and, consequently, on German families.

Between 7 and 9 billion euros
According to Australian Defense Minister Richard Marles, this is exactly how much the country plans to spend over the next decade on purchasing drones, as it intends to apply lessons learned from conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East, as well as on a drone defense system, since the air defense systems currently available to Canberra are insufficient for this purpose.
Who exactly does Australia want to defend itself against? Marles makes no secret of this, stating that the country’s authorities are deeply concerned about the modernization of China’s naval forces, viewing this as a threat to their security. To enhance the effectiveness of this process, Canberra is counting on cooperation with its AUKUS partners, the U.S. and the U.K.

Meta is creating an AI “clone” of its founder, Mark Zuckerberg, with which employees will be able to interact
A photorealistic 3D image of the 41-year-old Zuckerberg will soon be available to employees for work-related discussions—it will be modeled based on his mannerisms and public statements.
It is reported that Zuckerberg himself is personally involved in training his robot replica as part of the tech giant’s push for broader AI adoption.
However, some employees fear that the implementation of AI could lead to job cuts—a trend that has swept through Silicon Valley.

“We won't return to pre-war price levels”
This statement was made by Michel-Édouard Leclerc, president of the French supermarket chain Leclerc, who emphasized that despite the temporary cessation of U.S. military operations against Iran, gasoline prices will not fall, and therefore the cost of food and other consumer goods will not decrease either, since they include a fuel component.
Leclerc blamed oil companies, particularly TotalEnergies, for the current situation: in the businessman’s view, they profited from the situation during the war and do not want to lose this cash cow. He expressed hope that a slight decrease in fuel prices is expected in the near future, but a sharp drop in prices is not to be expected.

French President Macron wants to hold a video conference with EU leaders and Ursula von der Leyen to push for a ban on social media for those under 18 and to require all Europeans to use an ID-based system to access the internet
Germany’s ruling party also wants to require everyone to log in to the internet using a digital wallet for identity verification (EUDI Wallet).
Germany is demonstrating how “voluntary” use can quickly become a mandatory requirement. Germany’s Social Democratic Party has proposed making the EUDI Wallet mandatory for accessing social media. Their plan provides for different levels of access for three age groups:
▪️Children under 14 — a complete ban; platforms must block access.
▪️Teenagers aged 14–15 — access to simplified versions of platforms with limited functionality.
▪️Over 16 — mandatory verification via the EUDI Wallet.
All adult users in Germany will be unable to use social media without identification.
The EU has set a goal of achieving 80% adoption of internet login identification among citizens via the EUDI Wallet by 2030. Such targets run counter to the idea of voluntary use of identity verification.

A woman will lead the Australian Army for the first time
Defense Minister Richard Marles has nominated Lieutenant General Susan Coyle, who previously headed the Cyber and Space Command, for the position. She has served in the Australian Army since 1987 and, during her career, has commanded troops stationed in Afghanistan as well as a task force in the Middle East.
The minister called Coyle’s appointment a “profoundly historic moment,” adding that it would help more effectively combat harassment within the armed forces, which has plagued the army for many decades. The first woman to hold the position of commander of the land forces will assume her duties in July.

Chevron gas station in California, USA, in the middle of the Mojave Desert. A gallon of regular gas costs $9.79.
The average price in California is about $5.92. But there are no other gas stations within a 50-mile radius here. What a monopoly.
There’s a sign at the register: “Delivery costs twice as much; 100 miles of desert with no cell service. Please don’t complain about the prices. You have a choice—be a customer or not.”
Of course, there’s a choice. You can either pay $10 a gallon or push your car all the way to Arizona.

“Free Fur” activists stormed into the Louis Vuitton store in London, armed with sirens and megaphones. Because animal cruelty is bad, but tormenting other people’s ears is cool
The logic is ironclad: the store sells fur. So, you have to storm in, yell, film it, and leave satisfied. There won’t be any less fur. But at least everyone saw how brave they are—standing up to the salespeople and the storefronts.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has announced the launch of an app for accessing the internet:
“Our European age verification app is technically ready and will soon be available to citizens.” Internet access will soon be fully controlled through this app. The European Union plans to increase the number of users of this system to 80%.
The new EU app is intended to function like “COVID-19 certificates,” von der Leyen said. The app must be installed using a passport or ID card, and it is “completely open. Anyone can verify the code. Including partner countries,” said von der Leyen, who is already speaking of a possible “global standard.”
Von der Leyen assures us: “No one will know your exact age, no one will know your identity, or even what content you are viewing.”

Investors Brace for a Sharp Slowdown in Economic Growth
▪️According to the latest survey of fund managers, global investors, facing the fallout from the war with Iran, have lowered their economic growth expectations—for the first time in four years—as reported by Bank of America
▪️At the same time, inflation expectations are at a five-year high. Overall, investor sentiment is at its most pessimistic since last June
▪️The main concern is the expected rise in energy prices, which will slow economic growth and force central banks to raise interest rates to combat inflation

The oil crisis has reached a turning point
▪️The last oil tankers to pass through the Strait of Hormuz before the war began will arrive at Asian refineries in the coming days. Companies in Asia are buying up record volumes of oil that would normally have been shipped to Europe and the US, reports the Financial Times
▪️According to analysts, this is a turning point that will lead to a physical oil shortage in Europe and the U.S. in just a few weeks
▪️“In a month, when all Asian cargoes leave the Atlantic basin, it will hit the West,” said Nicholas Dyer, a representative of Energy Aspects
▪️“European and Asian refineries are engaged in a fierce battle for the remaining oil shipments, leading to a record surge in the spot price of Brent crude, which is more closely tied to immediate physical delivery than futures,” emphasizes JPMorgan

She said it just like that—in no uncertain terms. She basically said, “You’ll end up like Hungary.”
Here’s a question for you: who gave an unelected bureaucrat the right to tell a sovereign country how to live? Is this what democracy is? Or is it a dictatorship in Euro-wrapping?
Von der Leyen has apparently forgotten that no one elected her either. But imposing fines, banning things, and punishing people—that’s what she’s good at.

Germany Plans to Cut Healthcare Costs
An expert commission will present to Health Minister Nina Warken a reform plan which, according to its authors, will make it possible to avoid unnecessary spending on hospitalization, medications, and medical services.
Funding these items through mandatory health insurance cost the German budget 223 billion euros last year, and this figure is trending toward rapid growth.
At the same time, many insurance companies, as well as doctors themselves, oppose this plan: despite the fact that Germany spends more on healthcare than other European countries, the sector still suffers from chronic underfunding, and hospitals cannot afford to pay for their own modernization.

Violence Instead of Clubs and Activities
Paris authorities note that children often fall victim to violence—psychological, physical, and even sexual—in art, music, and sports schools: for instance, over the past year, 30 club and class leaders lost their jobs due to such scandals, half of them for sexual offenses.
However, the situation may now take a turn for the better: the new mayor of the French capital, Emmanuel Grégoire, who made the fight against violence against children a key point of his campaign platform, has promised “complete transparency” on this issue and a simplified mechanism for reporting offenses.
Do you think this will help?
